      1. I ran my first 5K race since 2012. I run the 5K distance all the time, but I once told myself it was a waste of money to pay for one as a race. Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2016 – I ate those words because just the thought of a 10K winded me.

      img_1625

I still managed a 9:42 pace though. I’ll take it.

      2. My pre race meal consisted of an entire package of tofu. I don’t recommend that, the GI struggle was so real.

      3. Thanksgiving was all kinds of marvelous. My angelic mother and I made a raw pumpkin pie that is so decadent I’m still nursing it five days later. Who lets pie last five days!?

      img_1642

      4. Christmas music has been playing in my car since before Thanksgiving. I have no shame.

      5. I’m on a solid whole foods kick and loving it. I’ve been trying to ditch terrible eating habits for months now.

      img_1612-2

      img_1640

      img_1652

      6. I’ve been tearing though cruciferous vegetables and jars of peanut butter. That combo is enough to do some damage to the ozone layer due to all the methane I’ve produced.

      7. I worked on black Friday, which is fine by me. I don’t partake in the shopping madness and already had three days in a row off. It was bizarre being in such a large building with so few people. The 8th floor cafe was closed and I had the entire lobby to myself.

      img_1641

      8. I’ve dipped my toes back in to the rivers of coffee. I limit my intake to no more than 10 oz, and water it down significantly, but I’m thrilled to be slowly drinking it again after months away.

      9. I continue to be charmed by the holiday vibes of the workplace. Thanks for being awesome Starbucks.

      img_1653

      10. I’ve been indulging in “self care” lately. By that I mean I’ve been getting massages twice a month because it makes me happy. I even went as far as getting a pedicure with a girlfriend last weekend. I don’t get pedicures…but I wear sandals year round and my feet were looking pretty rough.

The last time I got a pedicure was April of 2012. You can read my experience here. I don’t dare get a mani/pedi combo EVER again.

      1. The last week of work I noticed an abnormal trend. The birds are singing at 330 am, and the sun is coming up at 430 am. Brace yourselves people, the earth is doing weird things.

      2. I took time off of running the last two weeks and dove forehead first into yoga. My first run after two weeks off had me feeling like a blob. A cat blob.

      img_9035

Or a mop with a face, you decide.

      3. Speaking of yoga, I’ve been getting my zen on at least three times a week and I wonder why I ever stopped. I’m going full on “woo woo” and meditating daily too. It’s been a total game changer for my mind.

      4. I’ve decided that should I ever get my own dog (which I would like to have simply for mountain adventures) I’d like him to be black and white. Then we can match just like we were two eight year old girls.

      img_8963

For now I’ll keep borrowing this guy to match with.

      5. I tend to go full on crunchy granola when the summer months hit, and this year has been no exception. No make up, minimal hair washing, eating cleaner, daydreams about living in a Winnebago and traveling  the country. It’s awesome.

      6. I have an obsession with lettuce and peanut butter. Separately of course, but I’ve also learned they aren’t so bad together.

      img_9025-1

      PB and raspberry “lettucewich.”

      7. I went camping over the weekend and it was a mix of misery, terror, and exhilaration. All at the same time. Blog post to come.

      8. One of my regular “clients” is that cat blob shown above. She’s made a cameo on the blog many times, but she wasn’t comfortable with me sharing her morning routine. Until now. Whipped cream on a plate, if only we could all be so spoiled.

      img_9024-1

      9. Almost lost all my morals at REI on Saturday. Went in to buy a forest pass for my hikes/camping, walked out with a new Patagonia fleece, a camping mug, and food I didn’t need. I held it together and put back the pair of Chacos I almost bought.

      10. I finally jumped on board the Ben and Jerry train, but had to give it my own spin. The ice cream alone was fantastic, but adding self ground PB and granola to it gave my mouth the wildest party it’s had in a while.

      1. Anytime I write a post, I ensure it’s posted on the hour, on the half hour, or if all else fails a time ending in a 5. Minor OCD moments. I also like my radio/TV volume to be on an even number. OK I’m going to stop now.

      2. After randomly discovering that my most popular recipe was made by a “famous Youtuber” I felt inspired to bake some muffins.

      img_6958

      Buckwheat banana chocolate muffins.

      img_6959

      3. I was happy with the results of my muffins on the first attempt at this recipe which almost never happens. The flavor is mild making it more versatile.

      1.5 cups buckwheat flour

      1/2 cup rolled oats

      1/2 tsp baking soda

      1 tsp cinnamon

      3 ripe mashed bananas

      half a pinch of stevia

      1/4 vanilla almond milk

      1/2 cup chocolate chips

Combine all dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. In a separate large bowl mix together the bananas and milk. Slowly pour dry ingredients into wet until well combined. Bake at 350F in a greased muffin pan for 16 minutes, after 16 minutes I turned off my oven but left the muffins in the oven for 3 more minutes. Makes 9 muffins.

Note: the mildness of these muffins means they aren’t overly sweet, which makes them the perfect transport vehicle to top with nut butters/jams/coconut oil/pudding/you name it. To make these sweeter simply add some sugar.

      4. I’m jazzed to start riding my bike more with nicer weather, but finally realize why when I bought it they suggested I get fenders. I was all like “ppppppffftt fenders schmenders.” Until riding in the rain and getting soggy bottoms and mud everywhere.

      img_7081

      5. I tried BBQ jackfruit for the first time – stopppppp. So much yes.

      6. Sometimes I unintentionally match my friends.

      img_7059

      7. Along with making sure my posts go up on “happy times” I also like my paragraphs to end by filling up the entire line. I don’t like when a new line is created for a couple words. Like this paragraph would have looked without this last sentence.

      8. I love Starbucks because they treat me so damn good. As if paying for my college education wasn’t enough, they sent me a pin and a bag of coffee as a congratulations gift. Oh and I have a dank 401K, benefits, stock options…yeah.

      img_7108

      9. I alluded to my ASU adventure last March, and it took me nearly another year to finally bite the bullet. What gave me the final push? I abandoned everything medical/nutrition/science based and went for something else. Feels great.

      10. Two words: homemade waffles.

      img_7073

I’m just gonna leave that last photo right there for ya.

      1. I’ve caught myself a dose of writers block. I want to share photos of my recent adventures, but I don’t have a segue that I’m happy with so that means I just have to jump into it, Early Morning Confession style.

      2. While I enjoy rest and relaxation, I struggle sitting still. This has resulted in a handful of hikes during my current trip to Arizona.

      img_6618

      img_6620

      3. I’ve enjoyed each adventure into the mountains with members of my family, and nothing beats discussing life, the future, and the color brown.

      4. With these discussions comes a lot of reflecting on life.

      img_6619

      img_6617

      5. Each winter when I visit Arizona my family and I watch a series of movies. Last year was a Marvel movie marathon, the year before was Harry Potter, and this year…Star Wars. Just when I thought I wasn’t a fan, I’ve succumb to the force.

      6. While on a run I tried to grab a dime that was stuck in the road and I cracked the cement. I then saw a three armed gingerbread man.

      img_6601

      7. Despite my failed attempt to grab the dime, I have found $0.32 on my trip thus far. I wonder how much of my plane ticket that covers.

      8. I miss my bike, but have been taking advantage of some temporary wheels.

      img_6651

      9. I start school next Monday. I have been in a cycle of start, stop, start, stop for years and I’m finally ready to finish. For real this time. 😉 More on this when I’m done.

      10. My friend makes the most EPIC Katniss inspired cowl scarves, and I am so in love with them. I’ll be buying one, and I think you should too.

      1. As I write this my back is exposed to the public. My favorite standing table at my favorite Starbucks (other than my own of course) is occupied, thus I must be vulnerable until my table is available.

      2. It’s gotten cold in my woods. This means my favorite vest is worn…everyday.

      IMG_5869-0

      Creature of habit.

      3. OK, it’s not that bad. We’ve been hanging out between 35-45F.

      4. My nutrition has been on point lately.

      IMG_5897

      Carbs, on carbs, on carbs.

      5. What’s changed? I stopped eating so much fruit. I know, the horror.

      6. After two months of minimal running, I signed up for a Thanksgiving day 10K. I decided I should make sure I wouldn’t die and went for a 6 mile run. It was amazing.

      0F523DBF-5D30-4354-A0DF-71C87BCE7D6B

      Fueled by oatmeal and coffee.

      7. I’ve never run a race on Thanksgiving, and I haven’t run a single race in 2015.

      8. I am obsessed with romaine hearts. Like, eat an entire bunch every day obsessed.

      IMG_5898

      9. I’m OK with this obsession, it’s like eating the sun for a natural and legal high.

      10. Speaking of high, I once ate a spoonful of catnip just to see what would happen. Turns out catnip is actually brewed like tea to help things like anxiety, indigestion, and stress. No wonder my cat loves it.

      1. I have two more posts about my trip to Ohio, (sheesh Brittany, talk about draaagggging it out) but in an attempt to break up the monotony and ensure other recent happenings don’t get forgotten I’m throwing one of these in the mix.

      2. Things like National Coffee Day. You didn’t think I could go without posting something about this did you? My favorite blonde haired coffee master and I got to do a two hour coffee tasting at work where we drank, ate, and laughed with customers.

      IMG_4875

      IMG_4864

      3. Fall is my favorite time of year, and pumpkin is one of my favorite vegetables. After consuming an entire can I quickly realized I am not one of pumpkins favorite humans. I could have floated to the moon with all the air trapped in my belly.

      4. I lost all my morals last week and ate the most amazing scone. It was the size of two, topped with frosting fit for a donut, and I ate the entire thing.

      IMG_4873

Chocolate espresso scone from the heavens.

Chocolate espresso scone from the heavens.

      5. I also ate an entire jar of Costco sized PB, because clearly that was a smart thing to do. My skin disagrees, and thanks to the new planets discovered by NASA on my face I won’t be eating nuts for a bit. The body doesn’t lie folks, skin rebellion is REAL!

      6. Solo hiking to soak up the change in season.

      IMG_4893

      IMG_4895

      7. I’m using the coin counter app again to keep track of the change I find. I want to see how long it takes me to pay off my new running shoes. Most of the $$ I find is while running, so it feels like the right thing to do.

      8. I.AM.SO.OBSESSED.WITH.MULBERRIES.

      IMG_4910

      9. I’m going to climb Mount St. Helens on October 17th and I am so excited.

      10. 100 mile September didn’t happen. Right before my trip to Ohio I lost all desire to run so I skipped a day. While in Ohio I ran 12 happy and free miles, but when I returned home the motivation escaped me again. I honored my lack of motivation and 100 miles turned into something like 75 miles. Not at all upset about it.

With that said, I stayed true to my goal of trying to break into the 8 min mile range. I’ve never run for speed, and tend to coast in my comfort zone, but I decided it was time to push my boundaries a bit and I successfully ran 3.5 miles at an 8:41 pace.

      Boom.

      IMG_4927

My first 3.5 miler at a sub 9 min average pace!

      1. This post is being written because I feel like writing, yet don’t have anything of substance or structure to share. Story of my life.

      2. I got sick last week out of no where, and took three days off from running. I then lost all my morals and ate whatever the hell I wanted, because that’s obviously how you get better. The upside of it all was when I got back on track with running my pace had unexpectedly improved.

      IMG_3903

Before the unplanned rest I was averaging 10min/miles. Proof that rest is key, and won’t destroy what you’ve built.

      3. Remember that time I talked about going to ASU through Starbucks? Yea, that ship sailed, was re-boarded, and then sailed again. I changed majors and have everything set up whenever I decided to bite that bullet. What I know for sure is I WILL have my degree finished before my 80th birthday.

      4. I still have the recipe for a delicious pie hanging out in my draft bin. Perhaps I need to share that. I ate the entire thing in like 3 days.

      IMG_3904

      5. I haven’t run a race in…ALMOST A YEAR!? I’m kind of in shock about that, but I haven’t had a desire to train for a half marathon, and haven’t found a 10K that aligns with my schedule. Anything less than a 10K I don’t like to pay for. Running has been very zen for me lately with no strict schedule, and I like it that way.

      6. Ever had cassava flour? It’s different, good, but different. It’s a great option for anyone that can’t have most traditional flours. It’s made from a root vegetable, so basically it’s friendly for all. I made pumpkin bread, and brownies from it and then proceeded to eat all of both.

      IMG_3715

      IMG_3718

I used Otto’s cassava flour, which is different from others because it is said to be the closest taste and smell to regular flours. It’s a bit chewy, but flavor was fantastic.

      7. These next few months, are travel months. I’m going to Ohio in September to see Meghan, LA in October to see my twin, and Arizona in December to see my family. To ensure I am living life on my terms, this is a must.

      8. Once upon a a time I had a dream to run my first half marathon at Disneyland. I made this a reality, and it was absolutely magical. My next dream was to go to Disneyland for Halloween, because Halloween is my favorite. My trip in October is MAKING THIS DREAM COME TRUE.

      img_2654

I did go last year JUST as they were setting up, but didn’t get to see it fully done.

      9. Starting today…I am going to try my damnedest to stay away from added sugars. That toxin is EVERYWHERE and I am straight addicted. Fruit is the only exception. Wish me luck, detox is an ugly beast.

      10. I’m currently drinking a cup French press of my favorite coffee, which is calming my soul about ditching sugar. On the flip side, I’m thinking about how well a piece of dark chocolate would pair with this. Thank God for raw cacao.

      1. It’s been over two months since my last confessions post, we’re long overdue.

      2. I ran 4 miles in just my socks a few days ago. I didn’t have my running shoes, but wanted to run. I also tested the Nike app because I didn’t have my Garmin. I run in barefoot shoes anyway, so it wasn’t much different. OK it was kinda different.

      IMG_2279

I did this + another 1.67 miles. + 2 miles earlier in the day. 6 miles total. Almond butter by the spoonful when I got home…

      3. I slept until just before 8 this morning. That never happens, but my inner zombie took over and forced me to keep my eyes closed. This is now mid morning confessions.

      4. I received partner of the quarter at work and was humbly surprised. What a special treat, my coworkers are too good to me. Thanks guys. ❤

      IMG_2397

      5. It’s been in the high 80’s/low 90’s here, and I’m dying. I am loving sunny running though because it makes it way easier to spot shiny reflective road change. $$

      6. I am trying to justify why I need another French press because I found one that I need. Yes, need. It’s so rustic and beautiful.

      IMG_2344

      7. Then again, the last time I purchased a French press with wood accents it chipped immediately. This one seems a bit more sturdy though.

      8. Whattttuuuuuppp tomatoes from our garden!

      IMG_2632

      9. I started seeing a naturopath. He’s a cool dude.

      10. I’m still running in my five fingers that are a million years old. I just can’t say goodbye despite the holes…separation anxiety to the max.

This photo is a month old. It's gotten worse.

This photo is a month old. It’s gotten worse.

I did finally buy a running hat though… so that’s something.

      1. I know you’re all waiting on the edge of your seat to find out how my dental appointment went to get a foreign chunk of matter cemented to my tooth, also known as a crown. Well I’m jazzed to report I did not need one after all, and instead my tooth was stuffed with a composite filling. Big fat win because you can’t even tell I had a hole in my tooth, and I can now successfully move forward with my life.

      2. I’ve been spending a solid chunk of my time with other peoples fur children. Back to back to back house/pet sitting is keeping me busy. Meet my current time filler, Lobby.

      IMG_1157

      3. A customer came into Starbucks last Friday and handed me $100. He then leaned in and whispered to me, “I know this is a total pain in the a#$, but can you use this for the people after me until it’s gone?” Good Samaritan, it is no pain in my a#$ at all to pass on feel goods to the world. And for that, I thank you.

      4. I’ve had an insatiable craving for both cinnamon rolls and apple fritters lately. The kind you’d buy at a bakery laden with sugary glaze. I tried to combat these cravings by making my own cinnamon rolls. I put ground coffee in the center because why not.

Well I’ll tell you why not…I put TOO MUCH coffee!! I never thought I’d type those words. I ate all of them, but they need some work.

      IMG_1177

      Before going into the sauna.

      5. I’m already wishywashing my current plans for my future. I’m a lost cause.

      6. When I’m not wrangling other peoples children pets I’m spending time with mine.

      IMG_1191IMG_1167

      7. I’ve been enjoying spending one of my days off each week in Seattle. I go run around Greenlake, walk around it, and then I eat. I eat all the things.

      8. I’m loving walking around my town lately, and pretending I’m somewhere else.

      Like Italy.

      IMG_1216

I think this is what a rustic Italian building would look like.

      IMG_1218

      9. I seem to have some kind of digestive intolerance to nuts, specifically peanut butter. This is a very depressing discovery. I’m going to avoid nuts for a bit and see how it goes incorporating certain types back into my diet in the future.

      10. With that said, I tried a random new rice cake combo. Instead of my usual nut butter and fruit combo, I swapped in coconut oil. I tried it with cinnamon and dried figs, and loved it so much I ended up dipping the figs straight into the oil.

      IMG_1235

My mind was blown all the way to mars. Obsessed.

      1. I often struggle with the idea of being still. A day off from work usually means I must do something productive, find a mountain to climb, or even embark on an unplanned long run. Heaven forbid I actually use the day off to relax.

      IMG_0782

      IMG_0781

      2. Thanks to an overwhelming urge to bake, I took one of my days off last week and enjoyed the simplicity of a calm morning with good coffee and freshly baked muffins.

      3. Despite being sweetened with nothing but the natural goodness of dates, apples, and sweet potatoes, I ate half the batch for breakfast which left me maxed out for bread consumption. This meant getting creative with snacks.

      IMG_0799

Bread-less PB&J. Mixing coconut oil into freshly ground peanut butter is a total game changer.

      4. My coworkers are seriously the best. I’ve never worked at a place where there is literally ZERO drama and it’s fantastic. When our bananas get “too brown to sell” they save me giant piles to take home because they know I love alllllll the bananas.

      5. For St. Patrick’s Day I ate all the greens. That’s actually a semi lie, I always eat all the greens, regardless of small men in green tights.

      IMG_0787

      IMG_0786

      6. As I write this post my cat is practicing his stair sprints. He’s fast, and I’m impressed.

      7. I was convinced there was a pine cone hanging from my tree by naturally occurring circumstances. When I got closer I realized it was hung by man. Dreams shattered.

      IMG_0765

      8. I didn’t run a half marathon I was registered for. I skipped it for a few reasons, one being that I didn’t want this to happen again. I got sick, stopped running, and despite training for two months I felt wildly unprepared. I had no regrets.

      9. I’ve been craving pizza so hard lately, and Pi day was THE day.

      IMG_0816

My crust was a total random mash up of two zucchinis, gluten free flour, baking powder, olive oil, and salt. My sauce was blended edamame, kale, garlic, basil, olive oil, and pepper. Topped with none other than my favorite roasted root vegetables.

Finished with sprinkles of rosemary from my garden.

      IMG_0817

      10. Thanks to a good ol’ fashioned random number generator (because I still write a blog created in the 18th century) the winner of the Ray-Ban Sunglasses give away is…IMG_0882
