1. This post is being written because I feel like writing, yet don’t have anything of substance or structure to share. Story of my life.
2. I got sick last week out of no where, and took three days off from running. I then lost all my morals and ate whatever the hell I wanted, because that’s obviously how you get better. The upside of it all was when I got back on track with running my pace had unexpectedly improved.

Before the unplanned rest I was averaging 10min/miles. Proof that rest is key, and won’t destroy what you’ve built.
3. Remember that time I talked about going to ASU through Starbucks? Yea, that ship sailed, was re-boarded, and then sailed again. I changed majors and have everything set up whenever I decided to bite that bullet. What I know for sure is I WILL have my degree finished before my 80th birthday.
4. I still have the recipe for a delicious pie hanging out in my draft bin. Perhaps I need to share that. I ate the entire thing in like 3 days.
5. I haven’t run a race in…ALMOST A YEAR!? I’m kind of in shock about that, but I haven’t had a desire to train for a half marathon, and haven’t found a 10K that aligns with my schedule. Anything less than a 10K I don’t like to pay for. Running has been very zen for me lately with no strict schedule, and I like it that way.
6. Ever had cassava flour? It’s different, good, but different. It’s a great option for anyone that can’t have most traditional flours. It’s made from a root vegetable, so basically it’s friendly for all. I made pumpkin bread, and brownies from it and then proceeded to eat all of both.

I used Otto’s cassava flour, which is different from others because it is said to be the closest taste and smell to regular flours. It’s a bit chewy, but flavor was fantastic.
7. These next few months, are travel months. I’m going to Ohio in September to see Meghan, LA in October to see my twin, and Arizona in December to see my family. To ensure I am living life on my terms, this is a must.
8. Once upon a a time I had a dream to run my first half marathon at Disneyland. I made this a reality, and it was absolutely magical. My next dream was to go to Disneyland for Halloween, because Halloween is my favorite. My trip in October is MAKING THIS DREAM COME TRUE.
9. Starting today…I am going to try my damnedest to stay away from added sugars. That toxin is EVERYWHERE and I am straight addicted. Fruit is the only exception. Wish me luck, detox is an ugly beast.
10. I’m currently drinking a cup French press of my favorite coffee, which is calming my soul about ditching sugar. On the flip side, I’m thinking about how well a piece of dark chocolate would pair with this. Thank God for raw cacao.
Q: What’s your confession?

I’m the worst when it comes to accepting that rest is okay… Although I haven’t run in about 5 weeks (GAH!!!), and surprisingly, I’ve been okay with that. I’ve substituted a lot of walks instead, which I find are more soothing and let my mind wander better. Mostly because I’m not focusing on my straining muscles, but I digress. I’ve never heard of that kind of flour before! Where did you find it?? As soon as I get these tummy troubles sorted out, I want to try some! 🙂 And funny enough, I told my guy that we should go to Disneyland when it’s decorated for Halloween… We’ll see if we make that happen! Have fun with all of your travels!!
Brittany
The flour was sent to me for a review, but I didn’t feel like going into much more detail that this. ha. You should TOTALLY GO TO DLAND for Halloween and then we can meet. 🙂
I just bought some garbanzo flour to try too, although I’m not sure how your stomach will handle beans. HA.
Amy
Ugh, SO true about beans… And I think chickpeas are the worst. I haven’t liked working with that flour very much before because it means I can’t taste test the batter or dough. So sad! 😉 And YES we should totally meet in Disneyland!!!
B
I can’t believe it’s been a year since your last race! That sounds a little crazy! That sucks that you were sick but glad you’re feeling better now!
cravethecookbook
I had pie for breakfast two days in a row. Justified it yesterday by stating firming that there is fruit in it and flour, which could easily translate into toast and jam. Also training for a 25k trail run so today’s pie was because I did a long training run yesterday.
Haven’t tried the flour yet but did try coconut flour with some pretty yummy results. And nice on you to run the Disney run! Always wanted to as well but haven’t made it there yet. 🙂
Brittany
That run justifies your pie. !00%. My last slice of that pie above was followed by an 8 mile run, so it just works. Coconut flour is good!
cravethecookbook
I feel better now..lol
lindsay @ arunnarounddlife
Confession: you’re my new favorite pers now that you’re going to Disney for Halloween. It’s a freaking blast! And the rest thing–I just took three full days off, too, while I was traveling this weekend and I gotta say, my mind needed it just as much as my body did. I’m ready to get back to some workouts with a healthier perspective. :)))
di @ life of di.
Oh my goodness! Please post the recipe for that pie! It looks so good! Also, that is surprising that you haven’t run a race for a year but I think that just goes to show that you run for pleasure and not necessarily to train all the time. 🙂
wanderwolf
I dropped refined and added sugars from my diet almost 20 months ago. It’s often just as tough as the first day, but I never regret the decision.
Like your random confessions 🙂
Brittany
Thank you for the hope, I’m going to need it. 😉
Kristel
I would love to see that pie recipe!!
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Share the pie recipe!! Looking forward to reading about your travel adventures over the next few months.
more coffee, less talky
added sugar = the devil! i have dropped refined sugars from my diet along with all grains and i feel amazing!
Brittany
Grains and I haven’t been friends for a while, and each time I THINK I can have a small amount it’s an ugly spiral. UGLY!! I always feel SO much better without, and sugar..ohhh my kryptonite…must go too. Come hold me hand..I’ll need help.
Jade
I like that you’re giving yourself until you’re 80. that’s a good timeline. I get to go to Disney the week after they put up their Halloween stuff and I’m stoked! It’ll be the perfect end to my summer vacation. I’m trying to stay away from sugar as well but I could definitely try harder. Good luck!
jejansonius
I need to stay away from sugars as well, added that is. I eat way to much of that stuff, it’s even hard to stay away from real sugar too, I find myself consuming way to much in general! YIKES!
fionajarrett
A half-marathon in Disneyland sounds like incredible fun. The only thing more fun than that would be Halloween + Disneyland. I think you have it nailed!
allisonfiorini
I am a total sugar addict, too. I do really well if I cut it out, but one taste of it and I go crazy for it! Ugh. The struggle is real. Your pie looks amazing, and I’ve heard of that flour before – need to get my hands on some and give it a try!
Pip {Cherries & Chisme}
Cassava flour? Interesting! I’ve never had cassava itself before but it’s sold in a lot of shops near me so I need to try it, shall have to look out the flour too, those brownies look insane.
My confession is the silly amount of money I have spent on coffee and food today, my money saving week’s got off to a great start…
Lauren Rice (@heyricecake)
We are running the Scrooge 10K in Tacoma on December 12th if you’re looking for a race that ‘s totally cheesy 🙂 I went to Disney a few days before Christmas and it was MAGICAL. They decorate everything so well. Sounds like you have a lot of fun travel plans ahead!
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy
That pie looks epic! Share the recipe, it’s the right thing to do 😉
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I can’t wait for your visit. It’s gonna be a blast although you may have to lift your sugar ban. Just sayin’.
GiGi Eats Celebrities
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You’re a bad influence Meghan! LOL!
dave379
I used to have a hard time taking a rest and time off too, but I’ve gotten better at it 🙂 Gotta do it too especially if you’re not feeling good or have an injury… Glad you’re feeling better and faster after your rest!
Kelsey
I’m resting today/tonight from CrossFit, and it’s the best decision I’ve made this week (so far). I was an anxiety-ridden mess today and knew I just needed down time at home to read blogs, eat leftovers and clean – yes, cleaning is essential to me feel less anxious.
GiGi Eats Celebrities
I CONFESS THAT – YOU ARE BEING MENTIONED ON MY BLOG TOMORROW, LMFAO!!!! Um… Just another TWIN moment to put in the BOOKS yo!
And um, even though the last time I tried Cassava, I remember thinking how eating a cow’s butt might taste better (um….. GROSS)….. I actually really want to try your cassava creation cause you kinda, sorta, totally make everything look GOOD!!!!!
Tamera L
Verona is better than Pike Place roast, take it from a fellow french press-er. 🙂 Also, have you ever done the Seattle Ugly Sweater 5k in December? I’m doing it this year and would love any insights you might have.
Brittany
I agree that Verona is better than Pike, however the reserve Pike that I have here is my favorite. Much different than the standard Pike and actually tastes very similar to Verona!
I have not done that race, but have done a few smaller races in Seattle like this and they are a blast! There will be a LOT of people at that one, makes for a great atmosphere. Dress warm. 🙂
Ellie
Hmm…my confession is that my favorite snack right now is animal crackers…not exactly a model vegan these days 😉
Henry Chamberlain
Yes, we need that delicious pie recipe. What is that gorgeous thing?? You can mail me one.
Brittany
Coconut cream!! IT was INSANE! Recipe to come. 🙂
Tania @ Run To Radiance
Okay, I bought casava flour, but have no recipes to try out! Do you have any recommendations? Would love to hear!
Brittany
So far….no. HAHA. I think the flour works best when combined with eggs, and I don’t eat eggs so it’s been quite the experiment. It works, but only because I’m not picky. The website I linked to for the flour has recipes I would suggest trying!
Ms Fem
I chose spinach and red pepper lasagne with two large glasses of Sauvignon blanc at the pub instead of going to the running group that I started up last week! I will run twice as fast tonight….
Lucie Elizabeth (@CollectingLight)
Ahhhhh, its true, those damned added sugars (and presertives Ive recently discovered?!?!) are everywhere! Thats why I loved plant based eating so much!
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
The bread look moist and dense and pumpkiny! Can’t wait for the pie recipe! I need to stay away from added sugars, too… it’s just so HARD, haha. I’m pretty sure sugar is the devil. I REALLY want you to hold a blogger conference on coffee pairings. Make it happen. Confession- I’m only drinking coffee now when I get a preggo headache and that makes me kind of sad.
Brittany
I should totally make a coffee video.
ReidIvinsMedia
Added sugar is a pain. The only way to get away from it is make your own food from scratch. I gave up having sugar in tea and coffee many years ago -had one day of not enjoying them followed by years of pleasure. Recently I accidentally had a sip of a sugared tea. Revolting!
It’s a good thing that beer doesn’t contain sugar ;-))
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I love Disney around Halloween! I went a few years ago not even knowing that they decorate, so it was a pretty nice surprise. My next goal is to see it around Christmas time, but ugh… the crowds must be insane around that time of the year…
Jessica
My confession? It is time to whiten my teeth again which means staying away from coffee for 10 days and I am dreading it more than anything. I would give up sugar 54390 x before I would give up coffee. Googling an legitimate IV drip for caffeine…
Brittany
I gave up coffee for an entire day last week, and it was the most depressing 24 hours of my month. Not doing that again. I’ll just stick to the toothpaste I use because it does a damn good job.
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
I’m so with ya on not paying for anything under a 10k — unless a huge group of friends or something signs up for a 5k one day, it’s kinda a waste of money. I love when you have no format and share randomly! They’re the best types of posts 🙂
Jess @hellotofit
Good luck with limiting your added sugars! That continues to be and will always be a struggle for me. For example, I just ate a humongous, sugary muffin and now I feel like I’ve derailed from all progress. I know it’s not true, but it’s hard not to be too hard on myself.
Also, recipe for that delicious pie please!
Rach @ This Italian Family
Yay for going to Disney at Halloween! That’s so exciting!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Never heard of cassava flour but I need to get my hands on some- that looks amazing!
P
Yay another visit to LA! We should definitely meet up this time :))))
Allie Zottola
I always enjoy your early morning confessions posts! They usually make me laugh and make me hungry at the same time, haha. Please share that pie recipe! It looks divine. Also, it’s okay to be wishy washy about school. Everyone has a different timing for when things like that are right for them. Everything will fall into place at the right time for you. I know it :). When you go to Ohio next month, you should totally stop by Pittsburgh if you’re close…. that’s my confession! 😉
fictionalkevin
I didn’t run last week either – but I had no excuse…maybe I’ll blog I was sick or something too…
An Unrefined Vegan
It’s very hard for me to take breaks from working out/running, even when it’s necessary. Like this week because I torqued my back :-(.
Brittany
Oh no!! Take care of that back!
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness
Good luck with the sugar detox! I hear ya, every so often I definitely need to take a step back and nix dessert so that I can reset my body.
Let me know if you wind up coming down towards San Diego when you’re visiting GiGi.. Would love to meet up!
kimhoeltje
That pie!!!
Christina Does It All
I was just in Ohio! In route to Canada but made time for a quick brunch and it was delicious! That pie also looks delicious. Can’t wait to hear more about it. *Drools*
Jay Wilson
My confessions are pretty much the same, except replace all of your running stuff with bouldering. I’ve also changed and rechanged majors half a dozen times. I now excel in software engineering, creative writing, law, four languages, and will soon be preficient in mechanical engineering. Now if I could only sit still for half a second…
I visit Disneyland for Halloween all the time. Well, truthfully, everything available for that time of the year like Knott’s Scary Farm, Sinister Pointe (although it’s gotten pretty weak over the years), Universal Studios Horror Nights, and anything else juicy in a scary kind of way that I can get my paws into.
Oh, and hey, thanks for stopping by!
Melanie
Good luck with staying away from sugar!!! I am straight up addicted too. Once I get it out of my system, it gets so much easier. I always feel so much better when I’m not eating every sugary thing in sight too!! Ha ha.
All of your travels sound like so much fun. I would LOVE to go to Disneyland at Halloween. I would also LOVE to run a Disney race!!!
BunKaryudo
Good luck on avoiding added sugars. I fear there are entire sections of the supermarket you will never see again.
Brittany
I suppose it’s a good thing I don’t shop the aisles much anyway. Eating plants helps with that. 😉 My downfall…homemade baked goods. That’s where I get into trouble.
BunKaryudo
I may be with you on that one. I love anything made with oats. “Oh, oats are really healthy,” I think as I munch into some oatmeal based cake or other, completely ignoring the syrup, sugar, cream or whatever that’s in there too.

Not too much to confess, just that my sugar addiction has come back in full force. I tried to buy that dark chocolate sunflower seed bark but manage to shovel in a handful each time:( I just need to stop buying that stuff!! Aargh!! You have an exciting life!!xx
Lindsay @ The Love Bungalow
Love it!! Thanks for your honesty!!

Hi. Ever come across Brendan Brazier (the vegan triathlete) and his Thrive Diet thing. Has some interesting stuff to say about exercise and recovery and what we eat.
Just thought it might be your kind of thing. 🙂
Brittany
Yes! I’ve dabbled in a handful of his VEGA products. I’ll have to check out more of his stuff, thanks!
literaturemistress
I confess to intentionally not restocking my chocolate stash in an attempt to eat less sugar as well…and then craving chocolate so badly that I just ended up combining my very healthy fruit and nut bar with a spoonful of my boyfriend’s nutella (which I don’t even look at under normal circumstances). Will buy chocolate tomorrow.
Brittany
Good call, sometimes having that stash is key to not overdo it elsewhere. I have the same tendencies. HA.
