1. Can’t stop won’t stop with the rice cake/nut butter/epic topping combo. These two were pre hike fuel, and by that I mean I ate these before eating another ten pounds of food on my drive to the mtn.
2. One of the recent search terms that brought someone to my blog from The Google was the word “shanked.” Yup, sounds about right.
3. Those blackberries pictured above? They were free. I walked about a mile to find some bushes and filled a bowl up. Food tastes better when it’s free AND when you work for it.
4. Every time I incorporate certain kinds of gluten back into my diet I swell up like a puffer fish. The puffiness lasts a couple days, and it’s annoying because WHO can avoid cupcakes – come on man!
5. My coworker and I finished part of our Coffee Master project. It’s a giant board of knowledge. I feel like a proud mama.
6. The amount of sweat I’ve been producing on my runs lately is probably enough to fill a child size swimming pool. So.Hot.Outside.
7. This breakfast bowl. My face was rocked so hard.
…and this dinner bowl…really just this bowl. It delivers good things.
8. I found this style of Teva’s at Nordstrom Rack for $30 off original price. Basically I felt like a boss, and they are my new obsession.
9. My cat is a model.
10. I’ve been getting inquiries about what I’m going back to school for, and since I’ve been lazy about writing a post on that topic I’ll give you the Cliffs Notes version: Holistic Nutrition through Bastyr University. Bastyr is a natural health college in Seattle and the program will be a bit different than your standard nutrition program.
I’m thinking about going for the B.S. in nutrition and culinary arts to open more doors for the future, and because it just sounds like a blast. This college has a huge focus on whole foods and how they affect the human body. Totally my speed, totally crunchy granola.
If you’ve read my blog for a while you’ll know I was going for dental hygiene in the past, which thankfully is paying off because most of my prerequisite classes for that program transfer over to the nutrition degree. I do have four prerequisites needed still which I am working on now. Long story short that’s what I’m up to!
More on that later…perhaps.

Oh wow that looks too good Britt!!
kathy@vodka and soda

Amy @ A Desert Girl
Holistic nutrition? That’s awesome!!! It sounds like the perfect program for you.
Davida @The Healthy Maven
Confession: I just googled “how to pop popcorn in a microwave without a paper bag” because I polished off a bag of skinny pop and I’m having serious withdrawal. Shameful.
No, no shame.
Shanked… that is one of your favorite words I feel like haha. That’s awesome you found freeeeeeee berries to pick! Blueberry season is going on here in MI and I want to go pick some! I need to keep a stockpile away from Mr Speedy though b/c he eats them all in like 5.67 seconds.
Um all your meals look lovely. Your cats eyes are kind of alluring. And Im SO excited for your school program!!! Totally your thing and it seems like such a new/innovative field…. LIke I know nothing about it. you are like a pioneer!
I really do love the word shank, I don’t know why. It’s so catchy and packs a punch behind it. HAHA. OMGAAHH I want your blueberries.
You’re cat is a model for sure! And $30 off?! That’s an awesome deal!
i also don’t do the best with gluten so i hear you, and those blackberries!! i think they’re one of my fave foods everrrrr.
What an awesome program you’re going to be doing! I love that you use the phrase crunchy granola. I ate at a raw vegan place downtown yesterday and totally thought of you. I’m going to Brittany-esque my meals for school.
Question – how do you keep your rice cakes from going stale?
AWW, I love that you thought of me. As for the rice cakes…uh…I eat them? HA! I don’t know I just close them up when I am done and eat them in a decent time frame. I’ve never had them go stale.
My grandma and I used to take walks where there was a ton of blackberry bushes and we’d come home with a huge bowl. Your cat is adorable.

Congrats on your school program…sounds amazing!! You cat is so cute, hilarious! I have never picked berries before, but it sounds like an awesome deal! What made you change your mind about the dental thing….just curious…of course you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to 🙂
I don’t mind you asking at all!! It’s a bit of a long answer, but I’ll try to sum it up for you. I was working towards dental hygiene for about five years. I applied to the programs two years in a row and was placed on the alternate lists both times. This meant multiple classes to retake (because a 3.2 was not good enough, HA!) so finally I decided it was time to reevaluate and take a break. I took a year off from school and I realized my heart really wasn’t in it for dental, and decided to hold off on school until I knew what I wanted to do.
I’ve always had a passion for food, and natural remedies so once I learned more about Bastyr’s program it just clicked. I felt excited and decided to go for it!!
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy
Those rice cakes look really good. I have a huge stock of rice cakes at the moment and I am always looking for new topping ideas.
Perfect. Just perfect.
Can’t wait to hear more and what are the things on your dinner bowl please? They look like coconut shrimp but I know they aren’t.
BAHA! They are toasted coconut cashews, and they ARE SO FREAKING GOOD.
That does sound like an awesome program for you! And free blackberries?! Why aren’t those bushes near where I live 😦 ??
Matt @ Runner Savvy
I want that breakfast bowl!
YES!! Culinary I can totally see you doing that! 🙂
The other day on my run I ran by this house who had summer squash in a basket at the end of their driveway that had a sign saying “free” on it. I may or may not had grabbed a squash and ran home with it 🙂
Best comment of the post. I like your style, I would have done the same!
Kailey (Pint Size Foodie)
I need to get on your level with toppings 🙂 PB + Dates + Rice Cakes sounds wonderful.
The RD at my college went to Bastyr for their holistic concentration 🙂 Good luck!!
I love that the word “shanked” brought someone to your blog. Clearly I’m writing about the wrong topics because I never get cool search terms like that!
I may have taken a few breaks from sugar and blogged about wanting to shank someone for some cookies…detox is an ugly thing. HAHA.
di @ life of di.
Both your dinner and breakfast bowl look delish! 🙂 Also, I really like those Teva sandals. My Birkenstocks are on their last leg (after just buying them last summer – I do A LOT of walking!)
No way!? I’ve had my Birkenstocks for 8 years, have walked HUNDREDS of miles in them, and they are still alive and well!
Your rice cake creations look awesome and how cool is that that you found free blackberries! I need to find me some of those. Oh, and your breakfast and dinner bowls look AMAZING!! I’m hungry now.
Choc Chip Uru
I’m sorry but those blackberries look WAY to addictive 😀

I’m so excited for you about school! I’ll be starting a natural nutrition program in September too, and I seriously can.not.WAIT. I swear I’d be a student forever if I could. The “real world” is overrated… let’s just hike, drink coffee, and go to school forever 😉
Don’t you tempt me…because that sounds like THE best idea I’ve heard in a while.
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
I can’t wait to hear more about school- it all sounds so exciting!! PLEASE share what’s in that breakfast bowl (confession 7)–> I totes want to replicate! My confession is that I want to faceplant that bucket of blackberries- if only I were joking 😉
The base in the breakfast bowl is just half of a frozen banana, a cup of frozen mango, and one scoop of pea protein blended with some water and coconut milk. Then on TOP of the smoothie mess is another half of a banana, tblsp each of sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds, little bit of granola, 1/2 tblsp of chia seeds, and a couple cherries. EASY PEASY.
Your cat is a model, and whenever I hear the word shank, I think of you.
Also it sounds like you might have a gluten sensitivity.
I want to be a crunchy whole food loving granola yogi with you. 🙂 Oh wait, I already am, aren’t I?!
You sure are!! Which is why we get along so well….via the internet. HA.
If you don’t eat before, during, and after your hike, I REALLY don’t think you’re doing it right! Someone looked up Rodney Yee Butt (he’s a yoga instructor) and ended up on my blog. Not sure if I find this hilarious or super duper creepy. Both. Also, I went running with my xc team yesterday morning, and some football players thought we had just gone swimming. Like actually submerged in pool water. I guess we were just a little sweaty. It’s summer, what can I expect 🙂
how lucky that the classes transfer? for some reason, i keep reading about goals and plans and making things happen, and it makes me think i’ve gotta embark on something new — but what to do??? that picture of you with your coffee master board is awesome — the smile is priceless 🙂
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
I need that bowl in my life. Seems like only good things come out of it 🙂 I also NEED those blackberries, holy moly! I’m so proud of you and your masterness of coffee (and kind of jealous, too!) Have I ever told you I love your Confessions posts the most?! It’s true.
Rach @ This Italian Family
Oooh! So that’s what you’re going to school for. That sounds so perfect for you!! 🙂
I love that your blackberries were free! I bet they were even more delicious because of that. I’m with you on loving some nut butter on rice cakes. The last time you blogged about that I thought it looked good. So I went and bought some rice cakes and tried it and it’s now one of my favorite snacks! So thanks, friend! YUM! 🙂
1. I love rice cakes, they are an alternative to English muffins (haha).
2. Strange search term 😦
3. Omg, these blackberries look incredible!
4. Me too, my stomach and face gets puffy after eating gluten and soy. 😦
5. Congratulations on completing the project! Looks amazing!
6. It is so hot here in Oregon too! I just got back from Torino two nights ago and I can’t believe it’s hotter than Torino!
7. Love your meal bowls…so creative!
9. Aw what a cutie! What is your cat’s name?!
10. You should totally go for BS in nutrition, that’s something you love to do!
Both those bowls look so so amazing! And that is awesome about your holistic nutrition program! I’m hopefully going to go back to school for something of the same sort in the future. =)
I’m loving those epic rice cake toppings! Yum. I also love your Starbucks knowledge board and how much you actually love your job. Also, your cat = gorgeous. Aaaaand, awesome news with your school stuff! I think that’s so perfect for you. Totally crunch granola. I ❤ it!
Girl, I totally feel you on the puffer fish… Even without gluten, my stomach blows up to the size of a huge helium birthday balloon every single day and never deflates. Like, ever. I haven’t advertised it on my blog, but I’ve been off gluten, dairy, and just about every other awesome-tasting thing for a few weeks. It’s driving me insane, and the GI still doesn’t know what’s wrong. Sucks to be a food blogger when stuff like that happens!
But on a happier note, I’m SO excited for your and your new path!! Holistic Nutrition totally sounds right up your alley. That’s basically the way you live your life, and I’m positive you’re going to be incredibly successful!! Thinking of you and all of your classes! 🙂
