    1. Can’t stop won’t stop with the rice cake/nut butter/epic topping combo. These two were pre hike fuel, and by that I mean I ate these before eating another ten pounds of food on my drive to the mtn.

    002

    2. One of the recent search terms that brought someone to my blog from The Google was the word “shanked.” Yup, sounds about right.

    3. Those blackberries pictured above? They were free. I walked about a mile to find some bushes and filled a bowl up. Food tastes better when it’s free AND when you work for it.

    20140731-212135-76895757

    4. Every time I incorporate certain kinds of gluten back into my diet I swell up like a puffer fish. The puffiness lasts a couple days, and it’s annoying because WHO can avoid cupcakes – come on man!

    5. My coworker and I finished part of our Coffee Master project. It’s a giant board of knowledge. I feel like a proud mama.

    20140731-210856-7613683320140731-210859-76139595

    6. The amount of sweat I’ve been producing on my runs lately is probably enough to fill a child size swimming pool. So.Hot.Outside.

    7. This breakfast bowl. My face was rocked so hard.

    20140731-210901-76141017.jpg

…and this dinner bowl…really just this bowl. It delivers good things.

    20140803-172157-62517251.jpg

    8. I found this style of Teva’s at Nordstrom Rack for $30 off original price. Basically I felt like a boss, and they are my new obsession.

    9. My cat is a model.

    20140725-122523-44723672.jpg

    10. I’ve been getting inquiries about what I’m going back to school for, and since I’ve been lazy about writing a post on that topic I’ll give you the Cliffs Notes version: Holistic Nutrition through Bastyr University. Bastyr is a natural health college in Seattle and the program will be a bit different than your standard nutrition program.

I’m thinking about going for the B.S. in nutrition and culinary arts to open more doors for the future, and because it just sounds like a blast. This college has a huge focus on whole foods and how they affect the human body. Totally my speed, totally crunchy granola.

If you’ve read my blog for a while you’ll know I was going for dental hygiene in the past, which thankfully is paying off because most of my prerequisite classes for that program transfer over to the nutrition degree. I do have four prerequisites needed still which I am working on now. Long story short that’s what I’m up to!

    More on that later…perhaps.

    Q: What’s your confession?

    b

Shanked… that is one of your favorite words I feel like haha. That’s awesome you found freeeeeeee berries to pick! Blueberry season is going on here in MI and I want to go pick some! I need to keep a stockpile away from Mr Speedy though b/c he eats them all in like 5.67 seconds.

Um all your meals look lovely. Your cats eyes are kind of alluring. And Im SO excited for your school program!!! Totally your thing and it seems like such a new/innovative field…. LIke I know nothing about it. you are like a pioneer!

What an awesome program you’re going to be doing! I love that you use the phrase crunchy granola. I ate at a raw vegan place downtown yesterday and totally thought of you. I’m going to Brittany-esque my meals for school.

Question – how do you keep your rice cakes from going stale?

AWW, I love that you thought of me. As for the rice cakes…uh…I eat them? HA! I don’t know I just close them up when I am done and eat them in a decent time frame. I’ve never had them go stale.

Congrats on your school program…sounds amazing!! You cat is so cute, hilarious! I have never picked berries before, but it sounds like an awesome deal! What made you change your mind about the dental thing….just curious…of course you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to 🙂

I don’t mind you asking at all!! It’s a bit of a long answer, but I’ll try to sum it up for you. I was working towards dental hygiene for about five years. I applied to the programs two years in a row and was placed on the alternate lists both times. This meant multiple classes to retake (because a 3.2 was not good enough, HA!) so finally I decided it was time to reevaluate and take a break. I took a year off from school and I realized my heart really wasn’t in it for dental, and decided to hold off on school until I knew what I wanted to do.

I’ve always had a passion for food, and natural remedies so once I learned more about Bastyr’s program it just clicked. I felt excited and decided to go for it!!

The base in the breakfast bowl is just half of a frozen banana, a cup of frozen mango, and one scoop of pea protein blended with some water and coconut milk. Then on TOP of the smoothie mess is another half of a banana, tblsp each of sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds, little bit of granola, 1/2 tblsp of chia seeds, and a couple cherries. EASY PEASY.

If you don’t eat before, during, and after your hike, I REALLY don’t think you’re doing it right! Someone looked up Rodney Yee Butt (he’s a yoga instructor) and ended up on my blog. Not sure if I find this hilarious or super duper creepy. Both. Also, I went running with my xc team yesterday morning, and some football players thought we had just gone swimming. Like actually submerged in pool water. I guess we were just a little sweaty. It’s summer, what can I expect 🙂

Girl, I totally feel you on the puffer fish… Even without gluten, my stomach blows up to the size of a huge helium birthday balloon every single day and never deflates. Like, ever. I haven’t advertised it on my blog, but I’ve been off gluten, dairy, and just about every other awesome-tasting thing for a few weeks. It’s driving me insane, and the GI still doesn’t know what’s wrong. Sucks to be a food blogger when stuff like that happens!

But on a happier note, I’m SO excited for your and your new path!! Holistic Nutrition totally sounds right up your alley. That’s basically the way you live your life, and I’m positive you’re going to be incredibly successful!! Thinking of you and all of your classes! 🙂
