1. I know you’re all waiting on the edge of your seat to find out how my dental appointment went to get a foreign chunk of matter cemented to my tooth, also known as a crown. Well I’m jazzed to report I did not need one after all, and instead my tooth was stuffed with a composite filling. Big fat win because you can’t even tell I had a hole in my tooth, and I can now successfully move forward with my life.
2. I’ve been spending a solid chunk of my time with other peoples fur children. Back to back to back house/pet sitting is keeping me busy. Meet my current time filler, Lobby.
3. A customer came into Starbucks last Friday and handed me $100. He then leaned in and whispered to me, “I know this is a total pain in the a#$, but can you use this for the people after me until it’s gone?” Good Samaritan, it is no pain in my a#$ at all to pass on feel goods to the world. And for that, I thank you.
4. I’ve had an insatiable craving for both cinnamon rolls and apple fritters lately. The kind you’d buy at a bakery laden with sugary glaze. I tried to combat these cravings by making my own cinnamon rolls. I put ground coffee in the center because why not.
Well I’ll tell you why not…I put TOO MUCH coffee!! I never thought I’d type those words. I ate all of them, but they need some work.
5. I’m already wishywashing my current plans for my future. I’m a lost cause.
6. When I’m not wrangling other peoples
children pets I’m spending time with mine.
7. I’ve been enjoying spending one of my days off each week in Seattle. I go run around Greenlake, walk around it, and then I eat. I eat all the things.
8. I’m loving walking around my town lately, and pretending I’m somewhere else.
9. I seem to have some kind of digestive intolerance to nuts, specifically peanut butter. This is a very depressing discovery. I’m going to avoid nuts for a bit and see how it goes incorporating certain types back into my diet in the future.
10. With that said, I tried a random new rice cake combo. Instead of my usual nut butter and fruit combo, I swapped in coconut oil. I tried it with cinnamon and dried figs, and loved it so much I ended up dipping the figs straight into the oil.
Q: What’s your confession?
61 thoughts on “Early Morning Confessions”
I have a dairy intolerance, but sometimes forget or don’t care and then pay for it later 😦 good bye cheese pizza…
My confession: I have a peanut intolerance as well and have been peanut butter free for two years 😦 It takes some getting used to especially if you’re used to having it a couple of times a day but the peanut butter free life is indeed possible! Which I never thought it would be. Haha. Hopefully you can figure it out soon!
Also that Starbuck’s man ❤
My confession: I can’t seem to go to bed without eating something. It’s like I can’t get past the gravitational pull my kitchen has on my way to bed…last night it was almond butter! I’ve learned I need to start ‘counting’ these pre-slumber nibbles because they add up fast!!
Loved hearing about the man at Starbucks – what a nice person and probably made a few people smile that day 🙂
Sometimes I wish there was a magical test (that was free), which could test all.the.foods and tell you which ones to avoid. I think that would be quite lovely. I still think it is hard to be dairy-free, and sometimes wish I had to avoid gluten more…but then I’d probably be saying the opposite. Oh well! Thank goodness for coconut milk ice cream and almond milk #lifesavers. And gosh, a cinnamon roll sounds heavenly.
Free would be the key word for that test, I think they are pretty pricey to get done by naturopaths!! I would ADORE getting one though, like having all the answers to life right in front of you!
That Starbucks pay it forward is awesome. So neat!
Number 3! Melts my heart.
Don’t know about confessions, but I’m loving that coconut oil suggestion – oh, and all the cat pix – I get my animal fix when I visit friends and family!
Aw, hope your nut intolerance isn’t long-lasting!! YAY for no crown, and a coffee cinnamon roll sounds delish. That guy from Starbucks makes me happy 🙂 I’m currently craving your recipe for the pb chocolate rice krispy thingie.
That’s awesome about the starbucks fella. What a gem. Sorry nuts are hurting your tummy 😦 been there and it’s no fun. Sometimes I think when you cut something out for a while then bring it back in you tolerate it differently. Hope that’s the case for you!
My confession is that I watched a film at the weekend and thought to myself who does this actress remind me of? (Shailene Woodley – Fault in our Stars) I know, said I, it’s Britt!
Have I mentioned to you my love for her before!?!?! I ADORE her, she is legit one of my favorite actresses, and she is a total hippie granola in real life. BEST comment ever. I also adored that movie.
I LOOOVE this movie!!
kathy at real talk
i love what the guy at starbucks did! how sweet and i hope he gets plenty of luck his way 🙂 i confess that i really think the running gods are against me. i had to quit the trails last year because of my knee and now nearly a year rest, i went out today, felt amazing the first 4.5K and then the pain came back…but in the other knee. by the end, i was pretty much crawling to my car. WHY RUNNING GODS, WHY?!?
I get Buffalo wings when out and about (We are going organic and cutting out food that is handed out a window) Baby steps. 😀
Jessica @ VEGGIE RUNNING MOMMA
Yay for not getting a crown.!!
Coffee in the center sounds like an awesome idea. yumm
ha I love the randomness of this post. 🙂 My confession for today : My kneck hurts really bad so I’m rolling it like a dork at work all day. oh and I’m soo getting coffee for lunch. that’s healthy right.? lol
Annie Emmy Evans
I especially love #3. How lovely is that?
I adore all your confessions, Britt 🙂 All of them!
#3…What a lovely thing to do! Good deeds are always better when done anonymously as well. I’m sure that guy brightened up several people’s days!
3. That story made my entire day!! It’s a beautiful thing to know that there are still people out there like that who will graciously and anonymously perform random acts of kindness. Although I don’t exactly have quite that much money to spare at the moment, I’m definitely going to think about doing something similar in the future!
5. You are NOT a lost cause! Those feelings show that you truly, deeply care about your future and that you want to do something that you love, not just bring home a paycheck. That is one of the most admirable qualities in any human being, and I’m proud of you for that! I highly recommend the book “Making a Living Without a Job” by Barbara Winter. (http://www.amazon.com/Making-Living-Without-Job-revised/dp/0553386603/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1429652995&sr=1-1&keywords=making+a+living+without+a+job) It completely changed the way I approached deciding what I want to do with my life, and maybe it can provide a little insight for you too.
9. SO SAD!! I haven’t tried it myself, but I’ve heard sunflower butter is a good substitute for people with nut allergies. I hope it’s just temporary though!!
Your comments always make me feel on top of the world. Totally going to look for that book at the library, thank you! ❤
That Starbucks customer! ❤ If I had the money, I would love to do more random acts of kindness like that!!!
The man who did this in Starbucks is my hero. You make me want to work at Starbucks. I love being around people, coffee, and I need to get out more. I wish I could stand for long periods of time. GAH, I’m SO lost with my future. I wish so much you lived closer to me so we could talk about how confused we are about careers. AKSDJLFKAJS I confess I have become obsessed with Ben & Jerrys. It’s a fattening obsession. My thighs are growing lol
Lindsay @ A Runnaroundd Life
What a cool dude for treating people to coffee at Starbucks! I love those people.
Woohooo for not needing a crown! Hope the nut thing doesn’t stick around. I just found a new obsession – almond butter. Could be dangerous. Why can’t carrots taste as good as wine?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I may be a tiny bit biased, but I can’t say that I hate the fact that you may be intolerant to peanuts… just being honest 😛 And that Starbucks guy just became my favourite person of the day. LOVE people like that!
So glad you didn’t need the expense of getting a crown on your tooth! Also lovely to hear about the Good Samaritan. Your furry pet and other people’s furry pals are lovely. Sorry to hear about your nut allergy. My list of allergies and sensitivities is increasing and it becomes more difficult to find good alternatives to receive enough nutrition. I was mortified to discover I can no longer tolerate eggs after I had already being taken off gluten, soy, lactose, peanut butter, onions and bananas! I do miss my peanut butter! I can eat blanched almonds but not the ones with skins on. I’ve also heard that some people can tolerate peanuts boiled in their shells but can’t eat peanut butter. Weird the way we are affected like that. I have a latex allergy which is common among people who have an intolerance to a particular kind of avocado…which is me! The world of food sensitivities is complicated. It can take a long time to work things cause the problems. Very frustrating sometimes! In the end it is worth it when you feel better physically and mentally though. I wish you well finding out the problem! 🙂
Bananas!!? Oh my, I would just cry. I think I can handle staying away from nuts, I don’t eat any animal products, and avoid breads and gluten most of the time, but bananas…no.
I wish I thought to do this when I buy coffee. The reason I don’t is probably because I usually never buy coffee…because I work at a coffee shop…sometimes I bring bread home from work and put it in the community kitchen with an “up for grabs” sign and it’s gone in a couple days. My confession would have to be that I still have no idea what to do with my life and I am ok with it 😉
Wow what an awesome random act of kindness! I’m sure he brightened so many people’s day today. Coffee cinnamon rolls sound delicious! If you ever find a way to make it work, please let us know! 🙂
di @ life of di.
I just realized that Marty and I visited the Greenlake when we were in Seattle! I LOVED that area 🙂 I think our AirBnB was really close to the lake too.
Also, I’m sad to hear about the peanut butter but it may for the best. I wish I had an intolerance to it! I bought PB2 yesterday and am still struggling with eating too much but it’s not as bad as actually peanut butter. I’m thinking about switching to almonds instead of nut butter to see if I can control myself a bit more…
Love everything going on in the Italy picture 🙂 Good luck with the nuts and butter, not doing peanut butter would be tough for me too. I’m working on a cinnamon roll recipe too, my grandma always made the best.
I loooooove the story of the fella from Starbucks. Random acts of kindness make me so happy! Painting a dapper cat portrait of your kitty is on my to do list. Not kidding. It’s written on my to do list for the week. Avocado and veggies on a rice cake? I wonderrrr…
My confession… blew off my workout andddd some work I should’ve done to read blog posts. Oooops.
Luv What You Do
Your new kitty friend is adorable!
I LOVE that good smaritan story. It always warms my heart to hear about good people sharing their love and money!
Wow! It must have been fun seeing the faces of your customers when they realized someone was paying for them. What a nice man!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
That’s such a heart warming thing to do- What a legend.
LOL. Pretended I was in Italy. Love that.
I cooked a cheeseburger so pretended I was in America. With heart disease.
Coffee cinnamon rolls, kitty cats, and random acts of kindness. I love it. This post has everything for me. Me-Yow.
I love when people do those random acts of kindness. It reminds me that there is so much good in the world. (Sometimes you can forget that when you’re a NYC commuter if you know what I mean!)
P.S. I love your kitty cat!
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
Aw that random act of kindness! What an incredible man! I love that people do that from time to time — it really does make the world a better place. NOOOOO to the PB discovery! Such sadness! But I’m glad you found a decent replacement…I’ll have to try the coconut oil. So far I’ve only used it a handful of times with baking and skincare.
An Unrefined Vegan
A little mournful tune is playing in my head for you right now and your possible “issue” with nut butters. May it not be so. Very good news on the crown! Your teeth love you after all :-)!
Love that Starbucks story. How cool is that?
The Starbucks story is really cool. Really really awesome 🙂 It made my evening. Is it really common or was it a first time ?
Once in a while the pay it forward train happens, but none that large!
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
I think I started something bad with my apple fritter pic! That this was so dang good!. Sorry to hear about the PB, but good for you for finding coconut oil as a good replacer. I’m interested in the coffee cinnamon roll recipe once you’ve perfected it 🙂 And what a nice customer! Those kind of things give me hope about the human race. Happy Hump Day girl!
Rach @ This Italian Family
Oh no! A possibility intolerance to nut butter?! That makes me sad for you. Hopefully it won’t be! But if so, at least you’ll know what’s causing it.
I love that Good Samaritan story! What a great guy!
The Vegan 8
Wow, #3 is awesome! Love good samaritans like that!! Those cinnamon rolls look the bomb and so funny you stuffed them with coffee but so not surprised! That sucks about the possible nut intolerance. 😦 Hopefully that isn’t the case. I do admit when I eat nuts it seems I cough more often and it seems to produce more oil or zits….mainly peanut butter and pecans so I don’t try to eat them too often because of this.
I wanna babysit fur babies! There is one cat near my apartment complex that I see almost daily on my walks home who is super friendly, but I want my own fur baby. I’m glad you didn’t need a crown after all. I just got my filling done. The numbness is so real right now.
Coconut oil + dried figs? Genius. Brilliant. I need to get on that train… like now. And just when I lose all hope in the world, good Samaritans arise and make me feel better about this crappy place 🙂
You always make me want to try figs and dates (and probably other stuff I can’t think of) and then for some reason when I’m in the store holding them they are so intimidating and I just put them back. haha!! So yeah that’s my confession.
HAH! You should hit up the bulk bins so that you can just buy a few!!
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy
Sorry about that nuts, but what an awesome dude in Starbucks. There needs to be more people like that around.
Change of Pace
Wish you lived closer so you could sit for our fur babe, Harold! He’d be smitten with you 🙂
Your rolls look so pretty, and creative idea with the coffee grounds! I’d be so buzzed after!
My confession would have to be that I thought being a stay at home mom would be easy. How wrong I was! I love every second of it, but I never realized how busy it would be 🙂 I should really apologize to all those moms out there for thinking that.
Coffee in cinnamon rolls is genius! Let me know when you figure out the perfect ratio 🙂
Lucie Elizabeth (@CollectingLight)
I love discovering new places in my city! Its like my new favourite thing to do at the weekend. Also, super glad your dentist apointment went well!
Leslie @ TriathleteTreats
Confession: I got married last week and told almost no one!! (except the family that came to the wedding) 😉
Those cinnamon rolls look amazing!!! My husband (back when he was my boyfriend all of 7 days ago) was craving cinnamon rolls last week. We went to get one and it was amazing. I have been dreaming about making them since! 🙂
HOW EXCITING! Congratulations to you both.
umm… i feel like i’m reading a post that *i* wrote. sentiments we both feel? “I’m already wishywashing my current plans for my future. I’m a lost cause.” – ummm story of my life. also, pretending to be walking around italy when you’re just coasting through the neighborhood? do that on the regular. on that note, can we actually go to italy? plz?

the $100 starbucks donor absolutely makes my heart go pitter patter.
Food, Booze, & Baggage
Yay, no crown!!! That was so nice of that guy to do, what a nice random gesture. Interesting combo coconut oil and rice cakes, glad it worked for your craving!
You are so sweet! Pet sitting is a fun thing to do! I used to cat sit for a family friend and he eats everything I eat from vegan cream cheese to leafy greens. Hehe! It’s nice to have a foodie companion. What a sweet and kind customer…I hope he returns to Starbucks, he deserves a badge! I enjoy raw nuts and nut cheeses, but I started to notice a slight breakout on my skin. I started eating them less, and my skin cleared up.
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Oh my goodness – #3 – what a cool gesture! I bet it was fun spending his money for him on people who were in line.
