Things around here have been optimistically negative lately, and I’m here to say it’s time to move on. I’ve had a positive spin on all the “more serious” topics that I’ve shared, and it’s quite obvious to all my loyal readers that I’ve found myself in a wobbly life spot. I know that this has been a time of growth for me, and for that I’m thankful.
Maybe if I just close my eyes everything will turn around on its own.
No such luck. If life worked that way no one would ever appreciate anything. In order to manifest the life I want it’s about time I set some goals. No goals = no direction, no direction = chaos, chaos = sugar binges at 10pm, sugar binges = needing bigger pants, needing bigger pants = spending my traveling fund…and well, you get the idea.
Or I could just vagabond my way around the world…
If we keep talking about things that we don’t like, the energy from our words will keep us stuck. We must actively choose to speak positively and direct our mind in the direction that we want. This is something I must remind myself of often.
Here are my current goals for the next few months.
.
1. Get my sh*& together with my diet. How I plan to accomplish this: avoiding processed foods/sugar and finding my way back into the kitchen. I feel alive when I’m experimenting with meals.
It’s an ugly process trying to break a sugar addiction, and I’ve found myself deeper in the white powder than I’ve ever been before. The only way out is to go cold turkey, and green – lots of green.
2. Get into a solid groove with running, and watch my time improve naturally. How I plan to accomplish this: accept that I’m starting at square one again, fueling well, and being proud of each run. Even the 2 milers.

Slow and steady
3. Finishing strong with school. How I plan to accomplish this: continue doing what I’m doing. I finished my first semester strong and couldn’t be more thrilled. Only one more year.
4. Practice self love. How I plan to accomplish this: STOP TALKING NEGATIVELY. Accept where I am. Move forward. Highlight the positives. Chop off my hair. Run.
5. Grow my own food. How I plan to accomplish this: Self explanatory, but by starting small. I have been growing lettuce in my kitchen window and it’s flourishing!
5. Put my energy into helping others instead of dwelling on stupid things. How I plan to accomplish this: volunteering, staying positive at work, family time, and by finding my inner zen. When we take the focus off ourselves, life becomes much easier.
6. Blog more consistently. How I plan to accomplish this: CONTINUE TO go on EPIC ADVENTURES that are blog worthy. This space is a huge part of my life, and I’ve been somewhat absent lately, but I want to get back into a blog flow.

Latest mountain adventure.
These goals are realistic and attainable, which is a great place to start.
Q: What’s one of your current goals? Eyes on the prize!

So darn many great goals!!! It sounds like the onset of summer is going to be a wonderful help in accomplishing them. You rule, girl. You got this.
One of my goals, currently: Start kayaking again. Went for the first kayak adventure of the year yesterday. Sooooooo wonderful.
Brittany
Take me with you!
Kayse
You are welcome any time 🙂

Very nicely put friend! Mindfulness of where we are at any given moment grants endless possibilities! You have some beautiful goals.
I’m looking to do much of the same. I have some things that I need to acknowledge and be mindful of.
Running a bit slower (thanks to my Garmin being angry at me) and living up to my interests and abilities…Nerd abilities…..
Brittany
Nerd abilities are some of the most admirable. 👍🏻

Go Brit Go!!
My current goals are to shed some pounds (thereby making my cycling easier)by eating better (not less) and exercising, write more, get my house organized, go on dates, and do enjoyable things that I want to do.
Brittany
YES I love the emphasis on eating better, NOT less! Me too, me too.
Anthony
Brittany Rocks!! (Remember it and believe it–because it’s true)

I’ve got a to do list that is so full I won’t come up for air until late August. How did this happen? I am normally aimless and drifting. And I am not even including the ten hikes staring down at me from my white board at work. Now if it would only stop raining…..
Brittany
There is no bad weather, only bad gear!

Have you tried eating more fruit? It really helps with sugar addictions. I love your goals. One of mine is to work on my fiction every week.
Brittany
I did, and it make everything WAYYY worse. Like bad. Haha. I guess I’m the exception to the fruit rule. I think there’s a deeper issue with how I’m digesting sugars.
transforminglifenow
It sounds like it. Although we do tend to like the things that are “bad” for us. Unfortunately.
Brittany
Ugh so true.
Jade
One more year of school? You got this! I’ve been able to kick the processed sugar habit by increasing my fruit intake. Some people say sugar is sugar no matter where it comes from but that sounds too negative to me.
Brittany
I feel really sick with most fruit these days. It’s depressing. Lol.

E. Kubler Ross (a brilliant psychiatrist) said:
“There are no mistakes, no coincidences. All events are blessings given to us to learn from.”
I really believe this so I am sure that you will achieve all your goals! Go, Britt!
Brittany
I love that!! Thank you.

You hit the nail on the head about making time to make goals in order to get to the life you want for yourself. Positive action along with all that positive thinking can only lead to good things 🙂 Finding the perfect job is top of my goal list at the mo – that and hanging out more with my dog – equally important I think 😉
Brittany
Absolutely, our fur babies are top priority.
Kristy @ Southern In Law
Your goals sound perfect – and I think you’re already heading in the right direction just by acknowledging that you need them!
One of my current goals is to be more intentional about taking a lunch break. It might sound a little silly, but because I work for myself and don’t have a set lunch break, I tend to eat lunch with one hand whilst continuing to work with the other. Lately I’ve been trying to stop, get outside and actually take some time out to recharge and relax before heading back to work!
Brittany
It’s so important to stop and focus on what we eat, something I work on too!
Ellie
I totally get you on the sugar. I had to go cold turkey after I found myself in pain with a can of frosting in one hand and a spoon in the other. It was rough because I didn’t even realize what happened (mindless eating at the computer) until it was over and I was sick. I went off it for two weeks, then realized I didn’t miss the desserts as much. I found a love for nuts, fruit and MUSHROOMS (weird, but delicious!). My running improved and I won’t go back.
My goals right now are to stay the course with this crazy race and then RELAX after it. I’m not jumping into anything too soon after. I need a mental break from racing, and that’s ok.
My other goal is to make my new blog really fun and a learning experience. I’m enjoying the process and can’t wait to learn more
Brittany
Your frosting situation sounds like me….haha.
therunningllama
I like the cut of your jib! I like that your goals are as much focused on the process as the end result. Often focusing on the little goals of living better help us naturally attain much larger results than we could have expected!
Brittany
Exactly! Thank you!

Got to have The Goals! Goals, big and small, are what get me hopping out of bed in the morning. My large Goal for this year is to challenge myself and do things that scare me (got some things lined up – gulp!); smaller goals: paint kitchen walls and cabinets (in progress!) and complete another recipe e-book (also in progress). Damn! I’m exhausted, but it feels so good. Keep striving, learning and reaching, girl!
Brittany
I am working on doing more that scares me too, it’s the only way we grow! Congratulations on another book, you are amazing!
kathy @ more coffee, less talky
i start my goal of growing veggies again this year. all of my plants died last year (RIP) but my FIL has opted to help me out by 1) letting me grow stuff in his garden 2) not letting me touch them once planted 3) caring for them because i killed all of my plants last year.
Brittany
Hahaha what a gem your FIL is!
Angie
For me, finishing and sticking with my current YA fantasy book by the end of the year.
Good luck with your goals. I know you can do it. 🙂
Brittany
WE can do it! 👊🏻
Angie
Word. 🙂
Josie @ Literature Mistress
Wow – such an organised list of goals! Looks like you know what you’re doing 😉
I’m currently trying to get into running – again…I don’t know why, but I’ve never liked it, even though I really want to because it is so convenient! Maybe this time…so far I went for one “run” yesterday. (“Run” because a lot of walking was involved^^). And I installed ‘Zombies, run!’ in the hope that it might motivate me…we’ll see!
Brittany
I recently shifted my mind about running and it’s made me enjoy my runs more, and has motivated me to keep going! I’ll prob blog about this soon!
Josie @ Literature Mistress
Cool! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this!
katalysthealth
I love that you not only have goals, but also a plan of attack to get after them. So many people write down positive goals, but have no follow through because they have no idea how to achieve them!
Brittany
Thank you! I didn’t even think of it that way, but you’re so right. 😄
Rachael @ Catch Me If You Can
i love your goals! even when you are “negative” your positive! i cannot wait for more adventure posts you always have the best hiking/mountain photos!!! good luck growing your own food, i loved growing basil but havent kept up with it lately. i think homegrown food tastes so much better i hope you are very successful with it!
Brittany
It’s like night and day with taste!
dave379
Love your list and how you’re embracing the wobble, which is a great reminder for me also and makes me think of another book recommendation, Improv Wisdom by Patricia Ryan Madson. #4, #5, and #5 🙂 are definitely on my current goals list too. A better pursuit of self-love has been a recent theme for me, I planted 2/3 of my garden yesterday, and I want to help others more too because yes, it’s not all about me.
Brittany
Yay another book! Thank you.
Lindsay Edwards
I want your adventures 🙂 Can’t wait to read more. And as always, I appreciate your real realness ❤
Brittany
Keepin it real since 1989 yo!
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness
You go lady, these all sound like awesome goals! You’re right, putting it down on paper (or in this case, on the internet!) makes the goals real and gives you the push you need to really work on them. Good luck with nixing the sugar addiction! That’s a toughie. I totally have a sweet tooth, and it’s such a bad feeling when it’s apparent that I’ve been eating too much of it and am out of whack. It really affects your mood and body… but you can conquer it! Eat lots of fruit 🙂
Brittany
Oh man, mind/body/spirit totally affected!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I can’t wait to see the new haircut. You know I’m a fan of the short dos. It’s all about focusing on the positivity. Keep your head up.
Brittany
New year, new do!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The energy we put out there is definitely the energy the universe sends back at us, so I’m digging all the positivity 🙂 Right now I’m kind of in the same boat with the diet thing. I’ve gotten a little too lenient and lazy with mine, and I can totally feel the difference. The biggest struggle has been taking the time to make a proper meal instead of constantly snacking, but I just try to motivate myself my remembering that I always feel so much better when I do that. There are good and bad days 😆
Brittany
Yes, it’s a balance to get back to balance. Haha!
Rach @ This Italian Family
Girl! Such awesome goals! You are going to rock this. 🙂
Brittany
Thank you! ❤️
Emma @em-poweredwellness
Love this, I have a lot of similar goals right now. Well mostly your goal #1. And I need a good fitness goal for a summer fitness challenge I’m leading…
Let’s get ready to rock these goals and our summers 🙂
Brittany
We got this! 👊🏻
Amy
YES!!! 🙌🙌🙌 I just binge-read your last few blog posts (life has been so crazy lately with no signs of slowing down… yikes!), and each one really resonated with me. Especially the food/sugar binges/self love. I think all of those are related, at least for me… When I don’t eat well, the self love pretty much goes straight out the window. Boo! But I met with a new GI, and we’re planning on starting me on meds for SIBO once again (have I suggested that you check that out yet?? if I haven’t, I highly recommend looking at WebMD!), and I’m cautiously optimistic that it will help jump-start that healthy eating and no-more-sugar-binges goal. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you too, and I can’t wait to see more of your awesome adventures here on your blog!! ❤️
Brittany
Thank you!! I will look that up. I had a GI apt that was cancelled because the DR had to do surgery. I was salty about it, and now have to wait until the end of the month. I already waited a month for that one. OWWEELLL.
Amy
UGH I hear you on that!!! I was supposed to have this big GI exam done, which took 4+ months to finally schedule, and then… My GI got so sick that she was hospitalized just a few days before. I really hope you get your appointment in soon!!
Brittany
I’m convinced I have some kind of bacterial overgrowth whether it’s candida or something like what you mentioned. I just need confirmation and direction on how to get rid of it!
Amy
YES! You definitely should!! I have a detailed document outlining everything that I went through with GIs (tests, procedures, etc.) over the past two years, and I’d be happy to send it to you if you’d like! Just shoot me an email to remind me! 🙂
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
I’m adopting ALL of your goals. So thanks for making that easy 😉 My diet needs to get into check SO BAD! Too much random processed crap around work- I need to learn to say no… it’s just so hard when it’s free. And practicing self love is a top priority, too. I get so down about my post baby body and not loosing all the weight yet. I know I look fine and need to stop beating myself up for it. I love your honesty. Makes me stay honest with myself ❤
Brittany
Girl you look great right now, so just keep doing what you’re doing!
Allie Zottola
Love this! I get in these patches, too. The negative ones where I feel super wobbly. I try and trust God and pray through it and work hard on the things I love.
Your goals are awesome, and I can tell you really put thought into them and they mean a lot to you. Also, I can’t wait to see if you get a hair cut! Unless that was a joke?! Also, also, that dog is so cute. Also, also, also congrats on finishing your first semester at ASU! Aaaaand I love your cat! I keep begging Jimmy for a black cat. They’re my favorite 🙂
Brittany
Omg black cats are life!!! I’ve been trusting God big time lately!
