Fact: A good human being gives you food. Lord help them if I get hangry…

    IMG_1370

These CORE bars are complete meals on the go, and they are SO good! My favorite part? They perish. 1 week on the go, 1 month in the fridge, and 9 months in the freezer: Real food goes bad. Perfect for hiking, biking, or running late to work.

These were gifted to me, but you can find them online or at a select handful of Whole Foods locations. Eat good, feel good.

    IMG_1373

Fact: Potatoes are the essence of life. I cannot stop eating them. All of them.

    IMG_1441

Sweet potato the size of a walrus with veggies. I then ate half with almond butter and honey.

    IMG_1367

    Sweet potatoes with rosemary.

    IMG_1300

Russet potato along side this plate of color explosions

    IMG_1395

Sweet potato with veggies. And then another one for dessert. Can’t stop, won’t stop.

    IMG_1424

Gold potatoes with spinach and asparagus.

Fact: I’ve become the Mary Poppins of pet sitting. Four pets in the last 2 months.

    Said goodbye to this guy...

    Said goodbye to this guy…

...and said hello to this guy (again)

…and said hello to this guy (again)

Maybe I’ll quit my day job….

    IMG_1347

Maybe not. I did just get promoted after all. #ifinallysaidyes

Fact: Summer is coming. I’ve started prepping for minimal clothing season by partaking in a running “challenge.” 100 mile May. Amateur stuff for those ultra runners, but it keeps me running daily even if just 3-4 miles.

    IMG_1438

    IMG_1417

It helps balance out the potatoes…

    IMG_1387

Fact: Bananas are under-appreciated. I’ve been dipping mine into a mix of seeds: hemp, sunflower, and pumpkin. Or with a Core bar…or both. 😉

    IMG_1376

Scratch that…fruit in general. I’m literally eating at least 6-7 servings a day right now.

Fact: I sometimes change out of running clothes, but it’s rare.

    IMG_1427

Fact: This post was nothing more than a giant excuse to purge random photos I’ve taken the last two weeks in a format other than my usual Early Morning Confessions.

I’ll leave you with a photo of some of the worst coffee I’ve consumed in months. Tasted like foot soaked bath water. I still drank it.

Waiting for an oil change is a luxurious event. Fully equipped with PJ's and terrible coffee.

Waiting for an oil change is a luxurious event. Fully equipped with PJ’s and terrible coffee.

Q: What’s your fact for the day?

My fact of the day: If you forget the oven-mitt in the oven and then turn on said oven, you’ll get a lot of smoke.

Also, the insides of the oven-mitt melted together. Fortunately I discovered it BEFORE the fire alarm went off. This was at 5 am in the morning and I don’t think my neighbours would have appreciated the early wake-up call.

I love potatoes! I notice that you say “potatoes with veggies” like potatoes aren’t vegetables themselves 🙂 I’ve heard people don’t consider them a veggie. I agree that when they are in the fried form from a fast food chain, they aren’t a veggie, but other than that, studs are totally a vegetable! Tough break on the coffee 😦

Dipping bananas in hemp hearts sounds like something I MUST do after my next long run. FACT: I will run a 50K next year! But first I have to get through three more marathons and at least 4 more half marathons, that will keep me busy. Maybe after my next I will eat something as awesome as the stuff you take pics of – you’re an undiscovered food writer! Also it’s nice to see the Hawkeye dog again, and your five fingers – I will run at least one of my half marathons this year either in five fingers or barefoot (another fact – went over my quota).

      Facts

Ooooo I love a good, healthy bar! I’ll be on the lookout for those at WF for SURE!

So tell me, coffee guru, in your opinion, what is a good, decently priced French press?? I’ve been wanting one to try this coffee at home, but not sure what to get – I’m guessing the $20-$30 ones are, “you get what you pay for”?

I’ve been trying to change out of running clothes more. It has helped now that I purged half my closet, believe it or not! I mean, I didn’t get rid of any workout/running clothes…haha…but giving myself LESS option in the “regular clothes” section has made it easier to pick something out to wear that ISN’T running related…baby steps. Lol

I have a goal to run 1,000 miles this year, which averaged to about 84 miles a month, but I’m not doing so hot…lol. Maybe I should have set a smaller-scale goal like,…the 100 miles a MONTH…

      • Brittany

        May 13, 2015 at 6:38 AM

My French press cost me $17, does that answer your question? HA! In all honesty though you don’t need to pay more than $20-$30 for a solid press, the important part is all about the beans. The press is simply designed to be a place for your grinds to sit, steep, and extract full bodied coffee flavors. With the right filtration you could essentially do this in a jar on your kitchen counter…which I have.

Bodum makes great French presses, and I’m a tried and true believer of their products. You’ll want to ensure your coffee is coarse enough for the press, so having the beans specifically ground for a French press will ensure you get the flavors that go hand in hand with this style of coffee making. The same beans made in a press will taste different when made in a drip coffee maker. I hope that helps, happy coffee making!

Our food obsessions are similar – sweet potatoes are the best! I ate one every day for a good year or so until about a month ago. It was then that I realized I was eating around 400-500 calorie worth of sweet potatoes a day (the sweet potatoes were HUGE) so I cut back! My new obsession is cabbage + broccoli. Nomnomnom.

Yay for 100 Mile May! So many things to love about this post. 1) I could eat potatoes every day of my life and never get sick of them. If I had to choose, it would be whole roasted sweet potatoes and greasy french fries. That would be my perfect diet. 2) I love under-the-table cash jobs like house sitting/ animal sitting/ waitressing etc. They really spoil you haha 3) I thought of you this past weekend when the hotel buffet breakfast had the sickest coffee I’ve had in awhile. You would have dumped the cup out on the floor. Only if you were hangry, though! 4) “Real Food Goes Bad.” AMEN.
