On Saturday when I got to work we had no power. When all the cleaning was done, and there was nothing else that we could possibly do (the store was not open, we just had to wait it out) my fabulous coworkers and I had a powwow..in the dark…with coffee.
The store was closed for four hours…I was there for two of those hours. Ever tried going to the bathroom in a pitch black room? iPhone flashlight to the rescue. It was a fun time.
After this crazy day, I went for a run. It was pouring, and the wind was so strong it blew down trees with trunks the size of semi trucks. Slight exaggeration maybe, but still. I ran 5 miles and was 5 pounds heavier when I got home thanks to all the rain. It was a fun time.
I’ve been shopping so much lately, and by so much I mean 1/3 the amount of a normal shopper. For me this is huge. Yesterday I bought a new dress and I am so jazzed. I’ve always been the “roll outta bed and go” kinda girl, but putting a bit more effort into my outfits has given me a huge confidence boost. It’s been a fun time.
It’s fall and the weather has been dark and grey, I love it. I have consumed more coffee and tea in the last week than I have all month. I’ve been spending a lot of time outside even when it’s nasty, I love where I live. Last night I walked in the rain. It was a fun time.
I’ve been spending a lot of time with people lately. I tend to gravitate towards being alone, and have forced myself out of this bubble. Life is so much sweeter with good company.
Q: What’s been fun in your world lately?

There was a huge storm here last night and pretty much all of my city lost power…except for my house which I was excited about;)
Oh man, power outages are just the worst. Unless you’re with friends.
And I think it’s fabulous you are spending your time shopping, especially if you’re feeling more confident with your purchases! I think that’s such a great thing.
I’ve been shopping a lot lately too.
And I’ve been spending more time with people lately too – so much nicer than spending all my time alone which is what I used to do.
Davida @The Healthy Maven
Funny story for you…The power went out in my office a few weeks ago while I was in the bathroom…I freaked out and then had to find my way back to my desk with no light. On the bright side the office was closed for 2 days after that since the generator blew up! Was not complaining…
Brittany
AHH that would be the WORST! HAHA.
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Lots of fun times you’re having. And you are fabulous!
I did yoga in the park on Saturday. That was fun!
Hannah
What a beautiful post! I also workout outside rain or shine. I hate hate hate it when it’s cold, but I feel like a super hero for even doing it!
Alex @ therunwithin
way to go on shopping, I need to desperately but just can’t bite the bullet, I am way too cheap for my own good. Love the new fall background
Mary
When I was working in a supermarket a while back there was a big power cut and we all had to stay in store incase the power returned and customers flocked for bread and milk! The power never returned so we used torches to light up our faces and tell ghost stories and then ate all of the frozen desserts in the freezer as it had been off too long for us to refreeze them and sell. Boo for the store, but yay for us! 🙂
Brittany
What a blast!! Is it terrible that although the companies loose business, I sorta like it when things like that happen!?
Alisha's Appetite
I spend a lot of time alone too believe it or not and have been making an effort to put myself out there and make new friends in our new town…it’s working and it’s a nice change of pace to be around others. Good for you for shopping a little, it’s always nice to feel a little better about yourself and what you’re wearing!
Karla @ Finding My Fit
Fall weather is the absolute best. We have perfect temperatures here in WI but still real sunny–I’m ready for the grey and gloomy days.
I drink way too much coffee… and with the changing weather comes even more consumption 🙂
Megan
You hand is the one wearing a garmin!!!!!!!!!!! I ❤ shitting in the dark.
Brittany
You know me so well..<3
Angela @ Health's Angel
Sounds like fall has been good to you thus far! I must admit that I am a shopper. Though I’ve cut down over the past year or so just because being an adult is expensive. Blah.

I just read this in class while they were talking about end stage renal disease. I got to the bitch I’m fabulous picture and laughed audibly. Talk about some bad timing. Whoops!
Brittany
Bahaha I laughed out loud at this.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually had the power go out on me when I was taking a shower once… Being in the pitch black and soaking wet with shampoo in my hair was NOT a good time… thank goodness I haven’t watched horror movies in years — I probably would have lost my sh*t otherwise.
And that’s so awesome that you’ve been pushing yourself out of your bubble more. I tend to be the same way with wanting to keep to myself, but spending more time with others really does make life sweeter — now to just keep reminding myself of that 😆
pickyrunner
HA As much as I love running in the rain, I don’t love how weighed down I feel. It makes running so much harder! Losing power is like my worst nightmare unless I’m in good company- then it’s a barrel of fun 🙂 I’m glad you’re branching out and being more social lately. That’s something I don’t do very often either but when I do, it sometimes feels pretty good!
Change of Pace
Sounds like you’re doing awesome! I definitely prefer being by myself (or with Kelly) but it is nice when I force myself to hang out with people and get out more!
We ran in the rain both days we were in Vancouver. It sure was stormy!
Lauren
You just love running in the rain, haha!! No thank youuuu. That ‘Bitch I Am Fabulous’ pic made my day!
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
One of the reasons I love shopping and getting new clothes is for the confidence booth. It’s so worth the money!
Her Happy Balance
I’m loving the new fall change in background! I’m usually get up and go too, but sometimes it just makes you feel so great to dress up and pull out all the stops. I’m sure you look fab in your new dress!
spectacuLAUR
I totally agree with your whole world brightening up when you start spending more time with people. Although I definitely like my alone time, there is always time to put yourself out there with others. It’s important for the mind ❤ I'm glad you're consuming your body weight in coffee and treating yourself to puuurrrr-ty things 😀 You deserve it, always!
kathy @ vodka and soda
i love that you’ve been doing/trying new things! when you change things up, you’re always in for a pleasant surprise.

Running in the rain is so refreshing. The not-so-refreshing part is coming home soaking wet and having to dry off!!
jessiebearwhat
Hahaha omg going to the bathroom in the dark sounds terrifying. And yessss I love the weather!
di @ life of di.
A dark pow-wow with friends sounds so fun (despite the scary bathroom experience!) 🙂 Like I said in one of my last comments – I’m jealous of the dreary weather! I hope October has some of those days – it makes for a picturesque Halloween season!
allieksmith
I’m guessing your hand is the one with the running watch 😉 I’m jealous of your hardcore running in the rain. I have been hanging out with people more lately, too and it’s kinda nice to force myself out of my bubble. You’re right.. life is sweeter with good company!
Brittany
YESS that’s me with the watch..bahaha.

Early Spring here in Australia. Although I love Winter, Summertime is good for our family because we live near the beach. Funny enough, it also rains the most during this time as we live in a sub-tropical climate. Usaully I exercise early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day 🙂
Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures
Keep getting used to being with good company because when I come to Seattle in T-minus 2 months I’ll be acquainting myself with your fine self. No ifs ands or buts. We’re doing it.
You’re adorable and I love every sentence in this post, including the one where you are jazzed about your new dress! 🙂 Adorable!
Brittany
AHH I can’t wait to meet you!! I am stoked. When the time gets closer, you must give me all the details so I can meet you somewhere!
Britta
ahhh the rain and wind has been NUTS this past weekend!! Yours is the one to the far right? Are you wearing your garmin?!?! You’re run in the rain inspired me to get out yesterday too and I was SOAKED, although I loved it. YAY for shopping and hanging out with people – people are great and sometimes is so nice to get out. I hear ya on putting more effort into clothing etc. I can basically wear not make up, have unbrushed hair, and wear my running gear to work so I have absolutely no excuse to put on a real bra, let alone a pair of jeans. BUT I did this weekend as well – got a tad dress up, went out for dinner and drinks with some gals and it felt AWESOME to be a “girl” for once, if ya know what I mean 🙂 Also, LOVE the new dress you got! Made myyyy day when you sent it!
Britta
I should proofread these massive comments more often as well..oopsieeee
Brittany
YESSS that’s meeee with the Garmin! 😉 WHOOO for running in the rain, if only we could run TOGETHER! When I worked at TJ’s I NEVER wore makeup, but working at Starbucks (I don’t work at the butt crack of dawn anymore) I have time to put a splash of makeup on and I don’t hate it! WHOO for being a “girl.”
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I love the last picture. Gorgeous. Is that one yours?
I’m guessing your hand is the one on the bottom right, based on the glimpse of the watch. Looks like your running buddy time band. Good for you for getting out more. I think I’m retreating further into the kitchen, which I love but I could probably be a bit more social. Maybe I should invite people over for dinner. It’d be a win-win.
For fun, I’ve been running.
Brittany
Nooo I found that last photo online!! I love it too, so FALL! YUUUPPP that’s me with the watch, HA! I want to run with yooouuu.
GiGi Eats Celebrities
You know what I am loving? The fact that I am so special that I pretty much get your blog posts before you even POST THEM through SNAP CHAT & TEXTS!!!!!! 😀 You are my bloggy BFF. I am sorry, is this post a little too normal and sentimental. PENIS!
Brittany
I love it when you get mushy and sentimental…but I also love the random penis to throw things off.
Rach @ This Italian Family
I want to see your new dress!! I’m with you on being okay with just chilling at home, but it is so great to be out with people too. Friends are a pretty fabulous thing! 😀 And girl, I can’t believe all the activity you’ve done in the downpours lately (hiking, running, walks… you are a beast!). Way to not be a wimp like me and stay inside when it rains. 😛
Meredith
5 miles in the pouring rain?! You are a rockstar. After falling running in a light-drizzle earlier this year, I have turned into a total wuss and don’t even attempt putting on my running shoes in the rain now! I need toughen up, clearly! So fun to hear that you bought a new dress. New clothes or accessories always make me smile too!
Elizabeth
pictures darling, of your rockstar dress!!
Fun for me lately has been actually have a work schedule planned in advance……..something I’ve lived without for two years. YAY!! 🙂

This makes me jones for rain, clouds, and coffee shops. All in short supply where I am.
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Ahh so pumped I came across your blog- just reading over some of your older posts and loving the humour and wit. Coffee in the dark- that would have been awesome- especially if you didn’t burn yourself!
Totally hear you on the company thing- I do love my alone time but also going out with others and spending time with time- nothing comes close! Have a great start to your week!
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
So good you’ve been spending more time with other ppl. Loving all of these pictures 🙂
I always also feel so much more hardcore in the rain 🙂
Loving your Fall themed background, or Autumn as we call it.
elleseesyou
i had a great weekend in a cabin in north carolina! 🙂
katalysthealth
I am so stinkin jealous of your storm and weather!! I wake up to dark skies but then the sun comes up and its 80 degrees. Its so annoying! How am I supposed to enjoy my PSL when its 80 degrees out?!
Erin
Yay for shopping!! And I need cooler weather asap
brickhousechick
Hi Brittany! Came over from Thoughtsy’s at Thoughtsappear. Looking forward to following your posts. 🙂
Ja @Ja on the RUN
Ha! I agree! Running in the rain makes you even more hardcore! 🙂
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
Drinking coffee and chatting with coworkers in the dark doesn’t sound all that bad. Once our power went out when I was working at my last job and we had to sit there from 9am until well after 4 before the power returned. At the time I was working in a pharmacy and they wouldn’t let us leave until the power came back on so the alarm could be reset. I’m glad you enjoyed your run in the rain 🙂
PNWRunner
Ahh I am late to read your post!! You lost power on Saturday? I don’t believe we did, but I was out for a bit in the rain at the beerfest. I need to get outside and run in the rain more, but first I need a good rain jacket for running. It is on my list of “needs”! 🙂
Katherine
Man both of us have been ran runners lately! I weighed myself this morning for a good laugh after a run in really heavy ran, and I weighed 7 lbs over. So, you are not exaggerating at all my friend! I love running in the rain though, even if it does give you some hardcore baggage.
Barbara Bamber | justasmidgen
What an experience, was this some sort of “monsoon” like storm?? I am amazed you rain through it, it must have been invigorating though! I would have hunkered down for four hours with my latte, lol! ps I love love your red fall leaves and pine cone and berries border!!!xx
Luv What You Do
We had a power outage at work once and I had to go to the potty with a head light on. There is a really funny picture of it!
jessielovestorun
Running in pouring down rain is probably the best! I so wish we lived closer (you know like even on the same continent), that way we could hang out with starbucks in our hands + go for walks in the rain & hope no trees fall on us.
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
That’s so true about running in the rain–you feel like such a badass afterwards! The only problem is if you and your electronics aren’t prepared haha
alex@vegginout
I love it when the power goes out!! I just think it’s so exciting haha. And it totally calls for a blackout party. 😉 That’s what my friends and I did when we lost power on campus. It was dark out so of course we couldn’t do homework 😛
Running in the rain really is hardcore! It made my half marathon feel like even more of an accomplishment haha. Good job sticking it out and plowing through it!!! It’s always hard for me to actually get out there when it’s raining, but I always end up enjoying it once I do go… It’s just that first step 😉
Good company trumps being alone any day! Well I do like alone time too BUT I also love being with people. We seriously need to make a meet up happen sometime!
Amy
I loved power outages as a kid! We’d light candles, pull out flashlights, and read books snuggled under big blankets. Not quite the same scene at your Starbucks, but fun nonetheless!
And holy cow you are my HERO for running in the rain! I turn back at the first little raindrop because my fingers and toes get so cold. Seriously, no clue how you do it despite the Raynaud’s. So proud of you Brittany!!
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
I need to spend more time in the company of others even though I also tend to gravitate towards being alone. It always makes for more memories! I have been buying more lately too!
Kristina at damntenpounds
Good job gettin’ out of your bubble! I’m like you and really enjoy my alone time too. Your rainy run sounds tough but I like running in the rain! Well, as long as I don’t need to be anywhere afterwards 🙂 Consider it weather training for your race. You’ll be ready for anything.
Brandi
That pic of the dog is hilarious! I agree, it’s amazing how much better I feel and confident when I take 5 minutes to put some makeup on when running errands. I can’t imagine running like you did in the rain…I’d surely die!

This post makes my heart sing! That Pomeranian just made my life 🙂
Melissa @ Al Forno Mementos
I can’t do with no power. but with where you live you can always open the window .. it’s too hot here. *sigh* I wish I was still in portland. I wanna visit seattle next time!
