1. Remember the Grinch that tried to steal Christmas, only to be shocked when the people of Whoville came together stronger than ever? Even without their gifts? Yeah, that just happened in Boston. Runners unite, even without their medals.
2. I have separation issues. Specifically with clothing, I recently gave away some too big race shirts, and old work shirts, and it was like giving away a piece of my soul.
3. My running has been below average lately. I blame this on the fact that my knee is killing me. The bizarre part is that it’s not the knee that was hurting me before my last half marathon. Whatever, they are trying to take me down..damn knees.
4. On sunny days I like to spoil my children and let them outside. It’s like Christmas in April for these furry boys.
5. That jungle cat in the above picture has a new name: Richard Parker. Simply because I was so blown away by the movie Life Of Pi that I now call my cat by this name. This movie rocked my world so hard I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days…
6. I love nature…like a lot. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before.
7. I’ve been obsessing over burritos lately. Better yet burritos with the entire kitchen mashed inside. Newest obsession: Beets inside the burrito.
8. Last night I combined a store discount along with a coupon to get $2.00 off, making my total $1.99. Couponing at it’s finest.
9 and 10. While I haven’t been running A LOT I have still been running, and I was given some gels to try out on one of my longer runs. I’ve tried GU Gels, Shot Bloks, Chia Surge, and now Huma gels, a chia energy gel. I love chia seeds so I happily accepted the gels in exchange for my honest review.
This is a new company, and I am all for supporting small businesses. They have two flavors right now, strawberry and apple cinnamon. I have to admit that I am not a fan of fruity flavored gels like this, so the strawberry was not my jam. I did however LOVE the apple cinnamon gel. The flavor was amazing and I would eat it with my oatmeal or toast before a run, if not straight from the packet.
The texture was smooth, perfect for those of you skeeved out by chia seeds and their gelatinous texture when wet. I was surprised when I couldn’t even tell the seeds were in the mix. I would definitely buy the apple cinnamon gel again for my longer runs. Delicious AND nutritious.
You don’t have to be a runner to enjoy these gels, these are perfect for any cardio like activity. If you’re interested in trying these gels, and supporting a small new business you can use the discount code: BLISSFULBRITT for 10% off until April 30th!
Q: What’s your morning confession?

“Strawberry was not my jam” Bahaha… pun intended I hope. I have major clothing separation issues, too. I always tell myself I’ll end up needing it one day, so I should prob keep it- right. Maybe your other knee is bothering you from overcompensation while the first knee was causing a ruckus. Stupid knees. What is the next race you have lined up again? (I know- bad friend for having to ask!)
Brittany
Pun most definitely intended haha. I had the sammeee thoughts about my knee, it’s so annoying UGH! I have been trying to take more days off, but even baby distance runs start to cause a flare up. I’m just paranoid of doing serious damage..
FINGERS crossed I will be able to run the half marathon I want to run on May 19! The Capital City Marathon/Half in Olympia Washington!
di @ life of di.
Love the cat pictures 🙂 I really want a cat but I don’t think it’ll happen until we have a little bit bigger of a place. Plus, there are SOO many free roaming cats in our area, I’d be afraid to let ours outside (1. I wouldn’t want it to get in a fight 2. I wouldn’t want it to run away in some cat gang 😉 )
Brittany
Cat gangs are no joke, just last night I heard the leader of the neighborhood pack howling like he was in heat. It’s scary..HE is scary. I think he is a stray, I feel bad for him. Hahaha.
di @ life of di.
Hahaha. I know! They are seriously ferocious 🙂 The ones around here scare my dog!!

Ohhhh, beets in a burrito, yum! I ❤ beets & do not buy them enough! My confession is I went to spin this morning, just finished cleaning the house & have no plan to change out of my sweaty dirty clothes anytime soon!
Brittany
That’s funny…I have that same confession..HAHA! I sweat my ass off in spin this morning, and I am still in my spin clothes..ABOUT to clean my house..no joke. I may even go running later..why dirty two outfits!?
Britta
I have separation anxiety with my clothes too – I don’t wear half the things I own, but I simply cannot part with certain shirts, especially the ones with holes in them that are super soft and worn and perfect for sleeping 😉 Those gels look awesome, Imma see if I can hunt some down here in Vic!!!
P
Beets are my favorite root veg, hands down! Inserting them in a burrito sounds perfect :D!
I need to start experimenting with what foods to bring on my long runs, since I want my stomach to be ready come half marathon time! These gels look very interesting for such a purpose.
spectacuLAUR
Uh oh. You’re having knee problems with both of your knees now?! 😦 Seriously, I get anxiety when I read someone has knee problems so I really, really hope they go away. It gives me goosebumps thinking someone might have to go through what I’m going through. I never did gels when I ran EVER. I relied on jelly bellys and mints! Confession: I’m mad because I can’t go fake tanning this whole month due to surgery. I mean, I could go but it’s embarrassing!
Brittany
Your confession made me laugh. Gone are the days of me going to the tanning beds..it’s been years. I did however recently think about how nice it would feel and how badly I need some color on my skin!
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
#1 … agreed!! as for shirts … I don’t know if I can ever give them away. I still keep all my t-shirts. I don’t think I can separate from them … I love nature as well. Esp when the sky is too gorgeous which is almost always since I live in Texas and the sky is always huge. my morning (afternoon) confession … I think I’m addicted to my coffee shops coffees … or maybe just the free internet. It’s way faster here than at home …..
Mary
I love that your cat has clearly just headed outside and rolled in the biggest pile of dead grass he can find! Mine does exactly the same – has a grass roll, then a dust bath, (repeat until fully coated), walk through some mud and tramp back into the house to show me how beautiful she has become(!)
jessiebearwhat
Mmmm the apple cinnamon one sounds amazinnnggg.
consciouscravings
Those gels look super delicious! I think I’m going to have to order some for my volleyball players because at tournaments they go through a couple of games in one day and sometimes back to back. Your cats are super adorable too. I’m also scared to let my cat outside because of coyotes and other wild animals here in Texas.
Mary @ Fit and Fed
Giving away clothes? For me the hardest is giving away books, I hate that! I’m concerned about your knees— go to a sports medicine doctor if this persists. I’m not even a runner and I’ve done PT twice for patellofemoral pain AKA runner’s knee (I get it from figure skating). There are ways to heal it and keep it under control. Your black kitty with the white patch on his chest is so cute! I’m glad there was a little sun for them to enjoy.
Rebecca@Running.Food.Baby.
awwww, I want a Trader Joe’s t-shirt!
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I love beets! They are just so tasty and perfect when rosted. I have clothing separation issues with clothing too. I think I only wear about 5-10% of my clothing and the rest just hangs out in my closet waiting for me to eventually wear it again. With my half marathon weight gain most of the clothing sitting in the closet won’t even fit anymore.
lifeasliv
You totally make me want a Trader Joe’s shirt. On my “to-buy” list for sure.
Brittany
Ahh you’ll have to dig at your local Goodwill or something similar, or know someone that works there because TJ’s won’t sell their shirts to anyone!! Before I worked there I wanted one so bad and was sad to find out I couldn’t buy one. I guess it was fate because I ended up getting nine of them haha.
jessielovestorun
Woah, I want a trader joes shirt. I’d totally rock it everywhere I went =)
My morning confession: I just got approached by two men in the coffee shop who are doing a survey. They asked if I believe it’s okay to have your partner seek sex elsewhere if they can’t get it from their partner. Ha Ha.. strange!
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part but those apple cinnamon packets remind me of pureed applesauce- yum! Either way apple cinnamon-flavored anything is bound to be a win.
My confession: I’m really not lovin’ strength training anymore..I think it’s time for a time-out!
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Your cats are too cute!
allieksmith
I’m so jealous you can let your fur children outside without them running away! I have a feeling my cats would peace out. But I saw this mesh tent online recently…. you can put your cats in it and they can still enjoy nature, but without the option of running away. I told my parents I was going to buy it and they made fun of me haha.
DSTPRL
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas – love the analogy and so appropriate!!!!!! Thanks for sharing your updates and don’t have anxiety giving away things to bless others. You will be blessed in abundance! Stay well.
sincerelylily
Ohhhh I have never heard of these gels you speak of… but apples cinnamon sounds amazingg. Your cat looks like a wild baby tiger…
And giving away race shirts is difficult. I actually inherit a lot of over-sized shirts from Mr. Speedy (bc they are ugly and he doesnt want them) and sleep in them….. let me just say, I’m one sexy beast in my non-lacy race tech shirts.
Morning confession: Lately i have been drooling a lot and having nightmares about really ugly engagement rings… like, it is not funny. I dream deep and long about Mr. Speedy presenting me with large, sorcerer like gemstone rings with spikes.
This simply means that I have reached that point in pre-engagement when the girl starts to get a little pyscho….. and my dreams are proof.
Brittany
I almost..ALMOST stole one of manfriends race shirts to sleep in when he was giving them away last month. I didn’t though because I figured it was so dingy it wasn’t attractive to sleep in. I always drool a lot, but I do not have those dreams HAHAHA! We both know that rock you get will be BALLER!! You’ll be able to knock bitches out in back alleys with that bling blinggg.
Life After Swimming
Love your Grinch reference and your adorable kitties 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I confess that I’m not too sure how I feel about beet burritos. I love throwing sliced beets in my salad, but I declare burritos a beet-free zone. I also confess that I’m seriously considering packing up camp and moving to warmer climates. It’s been snowing and blowing here for two.whole.days, and I’m trying to stay all lighthearted about it, but seriously?!?! What the eff?!
kaityscooking
my cat use to loveeeee when i let him outside! my other cat use to go outside all the time but i wouldn’t let my newer one because he wasn’t tough enough for the pack of cats that hang down the streets lol i totally laughed at strawberry is not my jam even if it wasnt meant to be funny lol
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Your kitties look like they are loving life. Mine go outside this time of year too and immediately roll around all over the ground and get covered in dirt. Looks like your frisky felines do similar things.
Sorry to hear about the running; I hope you (other) knee recovers fast. I know it must be bugging you. Also I thoroughly enjoyed the picture of you sucking the huma out of that packet. Marketing at it’s finest.
Lora @ Crazy Running Girl
Your kitties are beautiful!!! I hope they enjoyed their outside time. I really want to try those gels, I’ve heard such great things!
Megan
That huma looks bomb! Apple cinnamon yum!! Beets inside of a burrito sounds pretty amazing!! I have only cooked beets at home once, and it has been years! I just hate how my hands end up dyed! Plus I think canned beets are delicious!
Brittany
YOOOO you wanna try the gels!? The owner is looking for people to review them!
Megan
Yea definitely, shoot me her email
Barbara Bamber | justasmidgen
I don’t have too many clothes.. I just need a bigger closet:D Beets in burritos.. post the recipe please:D
Life's a Bowl
I confess that I’d absolutely adore taking one of those TJ’s shirts off of your hands 😉 I’ll send you my address whenever you’re ready to part! And I love all things Mexican, but I’m not so sure about beet burritos – I recently started adding beets to my salad [yum] but I’ve never tried eating them warm…
noshingonasphalt
I’m addicted to Huma! Finally good fuel for your body – and tasty, too! My running has been way lower than normal but I can’t blame it on anything but me. I hope your knee starts acting right soon and stop hurting!

I hope your knee feels better soon!
Some girlfriends and I are doing a clothing swap this weekend. You’re welcome to join if you feel like flying to Maryland. Maybe you could get t-shirts from races to replace yours. (Sorry. I’m an enabler.) I promise to pick out an obnoxious movie to watch as well.
GiGi Eats Celebrities
I HAVE SEPARATION problems with everything. I AM A HOARDER! When I finally do throw something out, I wonder why no one is sounding the celebratory horns!!!!?!?!?! I mean, it’s a big deal when I throw out a coupon that expired 4 months ago!!!! LMFAO!
missymiller
Take care of them knees girl, you wont care how slow you are going when you are running at 65 years old right? But you’ll need them knees!
Oh and I think you should confess that a big part of you keeping those TJ’s tees is cause you think about going back to work there ..lol.
Brittany
You are good…so true. That is most definitely why I STILL have all my TJ’s stuff.. name-tags, tshirts, boxcutters, retirement fund is still in place, I’m all set if I wanna go back! HA! Truth on the knees too..I promise I am trying to be careful!
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
I never get rid of anything until I’m ready to because I know that SOMEday I’ll be like, “wtf is this shit? gah!” I held onto letters from an exboyfriend for a few years, until I finally realized he was a douchebag and then happily tossed ’em. Same with clothes and books.
Also, my favorite middle eastern restaurant in Toronto puts pickled beets in their falafel wraps and OMG it’s so good!
kathy @ vodka and soda
i’m glad you posted about the huma packs because i’ve been looking for something similar. i tried one from vega and it was pretty hard to take and by that, i mean i nearly puked 😦
and i LOVE beets! i just wish i could remember the day after that i ate them because i always have a heart attack after the bathroom (if you know what i mean)
Brittany
BAHAHA HELL yes I know what you mean. Would you stop reading my blog if I told you that I enjoy seeing red poo a day after eating beets? Similar to seeing corn in there too. That way I know things are working well and next day deliveries are on schedule with what I’ve eaten. Nothing worse than late digestion and not seeing corn or red until days later! OK I think I went too far..HAHA.
An Unrefined Vegan
Not that you should read this as a cautionary tale or anything, but long ago I got a wild hare and donated a huge pile of my rock concert tees. What?! Not only were some of them collector’s items (okay, MAYBE they could have become collector’s items…to someone), they were cool. Big mistake. Having said that, I’m a big proponent of getting rid of stuff.
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Strawberry…jam – you crack me up!! Your cats are so gorgeous!! And now I officially have to watch Life of Pi, since it’s awesome enough to cause a rename.
Take care of those knees!
Rach @ This Italian Family
It’s so hard to let go of clothes that have meaning to you! I’m definitely like that. I’ve gotten better about it, though. It helps that I’m turning most of my old teeshirts into a teeshirt quilt. 🙂
Also, the shots of your kitties are great. Oreo loves playing outside and getting all dirty too. Which reminds me, he needs a bath…
