1. I ran my first 5K race since 2012. I run the 5K distance all the time, but I once told myself it was a waste of money to pay for one as a race. Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2016 – I ate those words because just the thought of a 10K winded me.
2. My pre race meal consisted of an entire package of tofu. I don’t recommend that, the GI struggle was so real.
3. Thanksgiving was all kinds of marvelous. My angelic mother and I made a raw pumpkin pie that is so decadent I’m still nursing it five days later. Who lets pie last five days!?
4. Christmas music has been playing in my car since before Thanksgiving. I have no shame.
5. I’m on a solid whole foods kick and loving it. I’ve been trying to ditch terrible eating habits for months now.
6. I’ve been tearing though cruciferous vegetables and jars of peanut butter. That combo is enough to do some damage to the ozone layer due to all the methane I’ve produced.
7. I worked on black Friday, which is fine by me. I don’t partake in the shopping madness and already had three days in a row off. It was bizarre being in such a large building with so few people. The 8th floor cafe was closed and I had the entire lobby to myself.
8. I’ve dipped my toes back in to the rivers of coffee. I limit my intake to no more than 10 oz, and water it down significantly, but I’m thrilled to be slowly drinking it again after months away.
9. I continue to be charmed by the holiday vibes of the workplace. Thanks for being awesome Starbucks.
10. I’ve been indulging in “self care” lately. By that I mean I’ve been getting massages twice a month because it makes me happy. I even went as far as getting a pedicure with a girlfriend last weekend. I don’t get pedicures…but I wear sandals year round and my feet were looking pretty rough.
The last time I got a pedicure was April of 2012. You can read my experience here. I don’t dare get a mani/pedi combo EVER again.
Q: What’s your confession?

Congrats on your 5k, healthy eating, but most importantly getting back together w/coffee ❤
😝 THank you!
You need to coin the allthemethane hashtag. Why did my mind immediately go to the wrong place with “self care” and then immediately thought that GiGi would think the same thing?! My confession: I hid a piece of pecan pie from Todd so I wouldn’t have to share…
HAHHA omg I love all of this. That hashtag, the dirty mind, the Gigi reference. YES. Love your confession too, atta girl.
I am loving the self care vibe here. Way to go on the massages. I need one of those boys bad, and I would happily take a pedicure.
Keep adding to that ozone layer. I’m gotten into the oranges so I’m doing my bit too. 🙂
Bahahaaah. Ozone chaos!

I’m in the midst of a season of self-care. It kind of feels amazing to put this focus on myself. Glad you are in a place of adding coffee back into your life. I went through something similar this year, and my mornings have so much more joy with coffee in them!
The mornings were like a lonely grey cloud without coffee! I suppose a balanced break was all I needed.
I love cruciferous vegetables so much.
And since my masterplan of counteracting steady rain and grey skies with chocolate and baked goods does not seem to work anyway, I will join you on the whole foods kick.
Welllll something must be working for you because you continue to bust out those awesome marathons!!
Love getting your updates! I’m a fellow Starbucks partner and I second your “thanks for being awesome, Starbucks” emotion 🙂
Awww, so glad someone else can appreciate the charm of Starbucks! 🙂
Good on you. I’ve had massage at the top of my to-do list for about 2 years now and still haven’t got there yet but I would so love one! You’ve reminded me I must get one in soon if not for the body, than just for the mind because you really do walk out of there walking on air!
YES you must go!!

Thrilled to hear about your reunion with coffee!
Confession…I managed to rewatch all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls before the new revival episodes aired and I watched all of those within the weekend – carefully shutting out social media for the time being to avoid spoilers. No what’s the confession? I was slightly disappointed, but had a really hard time admitting it – I was so prepared to love it!
I heard the ending was very “that was it!?” Bummer you didn’t enjoy it as you thought you would!
Josie @ Literature Mistress
I’m actually not sure if that WAS it now – seemed more like they were purposefully setting up another sequel.
What fun! I’m going to have to think about it to come up with some confessions as lively as yours! I do have the Christmas music on as soon as Thanksgiving peeks around the corner!
Good call! My mom leaves her music on all through January, that’s where I draw the line.
Agreed! I shut it down after New Year’s! Ha. 🙂
The Runnin' Major
I’ve never been a coffee drinker…always tea and caffeine sodas. I was duped into coffee a couple of weeks ago, revisited it, and now find myself craving it a bit. Not sure this is a good thing….
I became obsessed with the science of coffee a few years ago, and was a believe ever since!
My confession is that I now cook the majority of my meals and I actually ENJOY it! I used to be the queen of PB&J and hated the idea of spending any time in the kitchen, however I made a promise to eat a different meal every night and cook for myself each day this November and now I’m never going back. Even if I only have a few minutes, food just tastes better if you make it yourself and take time to enjoy the process.
No shame about the Christmas music (I played it at my job at the gym today for 20 minutes before someone complained) 🙂
Oh yeah, making my own food is the only time I feel my best too. I got into a bad habit of not doing this the last year, and I paid for it!! Granted, I do a lot of grab and go foods like bananas and lettuce, but making a meal is totally preferred!

#6…lol just doesnt do it justice. am i stupid but what is a raw pumpkin pie?! is this something i need to try right now or is it a dangerous rabbit hole? i need details!!
Hahaha it’s literally raw, made from nuts, pumpkin, and fruits! Google it, it’s so bomb.
Sounds like a tasty pie! Grats on your run time. I too find I don’t run many races because I run the distance anyway so why pay?
My Confession: Pork products make me a Methane superstar. #allthatmethane #nobaconformethanks

I’m about to run a 5K race this weekend! Actually, I signed up for it on “accident” thinking I signed up for the 10k…but I’m looking forward to it since I really want to try to race it and see if I can PR 😀
Yes!!! Run fast my friend!
My thoughts exactly.
It sounds like you are happy and that is the most important thing.
Good for you!
Thank you! 🙂
Welcome back to the dark (coffee) side! I limit my intake as well but it is just so so so good…
So good, like a river of pure joy running down to my soul.
Your food pictures always make me sooooo hungry!!!! My confession is, I’ve started planning next years garden already. Alreadyyyyyy.
LOVE that, you are so wise. Come help me with one pleaseee!
I’ve never gotten a pedicure!! And I’ve only had a manicure twice, the last time being in June of 2008. I can’t imagine wearing sandals year round… My toes are constantly white without circulation this time of year, even with two pairs of socks and fuzzy-lined boots! 🙈
Right?! I try to defy the raynauds haah. It’s my attempt to have control over my body. I’m crazy.
I looooove running races on Thanksgiving morning, although we didn’t do one this year. 😦
I also love all of your whole food eats. I’ve been eating pretty well, but definitely need to up my veggie intake!
I keep saying I need to go get a massage too! It’s been a while. I love that you’re going twice a month. I think I need to follow your example. Maybe I’ll get a pedicure while I’m at it too! 😉
Go go go! Massage for sure, it’s so rewarding.
An Unrefined Vegan
Sounds like a good balance: whole foods, a little bit o’ coffee, and massages!
My confession is that I haven’t felt like running lately, so I’ve kept things at a brisk walk.
Wait time out, I thought you mentioned a whole back no more running for you. Back in the running game!? I also don’t feel like it much this time of year, the cold kills me.
An Unrefined Vegan
I had to take a running breather, oh – about a year+ ago, but I’ve been back in the game (a short game, only 3 miles at a time… but still!) and feeling great! I think it was low Vitamin D.
Three miles is my happy place right now. Glad to hear you’re back at it! Such a great release.
kathy @ more coffee, less talky
that’s my WORST fear – having to take a dump while racing. when i did mudder, i was so scared of that so i rented a hotel room right beside the event and then in the morning, took my daily dump in the comfort of a swanky hotel room. ain’t nobody got time to drop a deuce behind a tree while everyone watches!
HAHAHAHA. I’d have no shame. Granted, there’s typically portapottys along the courses that are longer. Thankfully this hasn’t happened during a race, but once on a 9 miler I was like half a mile from my house and almost didn’t make it. I had to go stand against a tree and pray. Hahahaha

Your food looks so amazing – – whole foods for the win! I would’ve thought Starbucks would be busy on a Black Friday – shoppers needed to get energized and all that. Maybe they were too much in “crazy shopping mode” to be distracted by coffee, ….or their crazy enough to begin with that more caffeine would just put them entirely over the edge, lol.
My confession: I plan on binge watching the new Gilmore Girls. I binge watched the entire seasons over the summer last year, but now I need to refresh just a tad before I jump into the new episodes. I’ve heard a lot of people were disappointed, so I’m not getting my hopes up too high.
I work at the Starbucks corporate office, so we were pretty slow. The retail stores were busy I’m sure! I heard disappointment too! Maybe I’ll get around to watching it sometime.
Rach @ This Italian Family
I’m with you on listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving. Totally acceptable! And huge hooray for Thanksgiving eats. Sounds like your mom really treated you right! 🙂
My mama is the best! 🙂
Self care is important and you shouldn’t feel the least bit guilty about it. You deserve it! – Kat
Agreed!! I squashed the guilty “I don’t wanna spend money” mindset!! It’s SO worth it.
Pre-race tofu! That’s amazing. I’m thinking it was dinner the day before, but maybe it was breakfast? PB&J and a clif bar is my usual pre-race morning meal. My confession: today at a winter market I bought $32 worth of pickled products. A quart of full sours for my dad (holiday shopping) and the rest for me (the same plus sundried tomatoes and sweet peppers).
No no, it was dinner the night before! Haha. Mmmmm pickled goodness.

YAY for massages! Ever since an injury at the beginning of the year, part of my let’s-not-break-foot-bones-and-tear-your-calf-again plan is getting a massage once a month. It’s not always relaxing because I make the masseuse dig into my calf to unknot it (ouchie), but I love it because I feel much better afterwards! Totally worth the $.
And good on you for getting back on a solid whole foods diet! Sometimes it’s hard to get back to it once you’ve strayed away, but once you get going, you’re on a roll. 🙂
Hurts so good rolling out those knots!
haha, i have also never run a 5k race for the same reason. closest was warrior dash- but that had obstacles so I could justify paying. I’m terrible!
It just goes so quick! If it’s a good cause (this one went towards a good bank) I can pay. 😝
Yay for getting back into coffee! I’m about to brew myself a cup! Also, I’m happy to hear you’ve been taking good care of yourself lately!
Self love yaaass.
