Posted at 5:00 AM by Brittany, on November 28, 2016

    1. I ran my first 5K race since 2012. I run the 5K distance all the time, but I once told myself it was a waste of money to pay for one as a race. Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2016 – I ate those words because just the thought of a 10K winded me.

    img_1625

I still managed a 9:42 pace though. I’ll take it.

    2. My pre race meal consisted of an entire package of tofu. I don’t recommend that, the GI struggle was so real.

    3. Thanksgiving was all kinds of marvelous. My angelic mother and I made a raw pumpkin pie that is so decadent I’m still nursing it five days later. Who lets pie last five days!?

    img_1642

    4. Christmas music has been playing in my car since before Thanksgiving. I have no shame.

    5. I’m on a solid whole foods kick and loving it. I’ve been trying to ditch terrible eating habits for months now.

    img_1612-2

    img_1640

    img_1652

    6. I’ve been tearing though cruciferous vegetables and jars of peanut butter. That combo is enough to do some damage to the ozone layer due to all the methane I’ve produced.

    7. I worked on black Friday, which is fine by me. I don’t partake in the shopping madness and already had three days in a row off. It was bizarre being in such a large building with so few people. The 8th floor cafe was closed and I had the entire lobby to myself.

    img_1641

    8. I’ve dipped my toes back in to the rivers of coffee. I limit my intake to no more than 10 oz, and water it down significantly, but I’m thrilled to be slowly drinking it again after months away.

    9. I continue to be charmed by the holiday vibes of the workplace. Thanks for being awesome Starbucks.

    img_1653

    10. I’ve been indulging in “self care” lately. By that I mean I’ve been getting massages twice a month because it makes me happy. I even went as far as getting a pedicure with a girlfriend last weekend. I don’t get pedicures…but I wear sandals year round and my feet were looking pretty rough.

The last time I got a pedicure was April of 2012. You can read my experience here. I don’t dare get a mani/pedi combo EVER again.

    Q: What’s your confession?

You need to coin the allthemethane hashtag. Why did my mind immediately go to the wrong place with “self care” and then immediately thought that GiGi would think the same thing?! My confession: I hid a piece of pecan pie from Todd so I wouldn’t have to share…

I am loving the self care vibe here. Way to go on the massages. I need one of those boys bad, and I would happily take a pedicure.

Keep adding to that ozone layer. I’m gotten into the oranges so I’m doing my bit too. 🙂

I’m in the midst of a season of self-care. It kind of feels amazing to put this focus on myself. Glad you are in a place of adding coffee back into your life. I went through something similar this year, and my mornings have so much more joy with coffee in them!

I love cruciferous vegetables so much.
And since my masterplan of counteracting steady rain and grey skies with chocolate and baked goods does not seem to work anyway, I will join you on the whole foods kick.

Thrilled to hear about your reunion with coffee!
Confession…I managed to rewatch all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls before the new revival episodes aired and I watched all of those within the weekend – carefully shutting out social media for the time being to avoid spoilers. No what’s the confession? I was slightly disappointed, but had a really hard time admitting it – I was so prepared to love it!

My confession is that I now cook the majority of my meals and I actually ENJOY it! I used to be the queen of PB&J and hated the idea of spending any time in the kitchen, however I made a promise to eat a different meal every night and cook for myself each day this November and now I’m never going back. Even if I only have a few minutes, food just tastes better if you make it yourself and take time to enjoy the process.
No shame about the Christmas music (I played it at my job at the gym today for 20 minutes before someone complained) 🙂

that’s my WORST fear – having to take a dump while racing. when i did mudder, i was so scared of that so i rented a hotel room right beside the event and then in the morning, took my daily dump in the comfort of a swanky hotel room. ain’t nobody got time to drop a deuce behind a tree while everyone watches!

HAHAHAHA. I’d have no shame. Granted, there’s typically portapottys along the courses that are longer. Thankfully this hasn’t happened during a race, but once on a 9 miler I was like half a mile from my house and almost didn’t make it. I had to go stand against a tree and pray. Hahahaha

Your food looks so amazing – – whole foods for the win! I would’ve thought Starbucks would be busy on a Black Friday – shoppers needed to get energized and all that. Maybe they were too much in “crazy shopping mode” to be distracted by coffee, ….or their crazy enough to begin with that more caffeine would just put them entirely over the edge, lol.

My confession: I plan on binge watching the new Gilmore Girls. I binge watched the entire seasons over the summer last year, but now I need to refresh just a tad before I jump into the new episodes. I’ve heard a lot of people were disappointed, so I’m not getting my hopes up too high.

Pre-race tofu! That’s amazing. I’m thinking it was dinner the day before, but maybe it was breakfast? PB&J and a clif bar is my usual pre-race morning meal. My confession: today at a winter market I bought $32 worth of pickled products. A quart of full sours for my dad (holiday shopping) and the rest for me (the same plus sundried tomatoes and sweet peppers).

YAY for massages! Ever since an injury at the beginning of the year, part of my let’s-not-break-foot-bones-and-tear-your-calf-again plan is getting a massage once a month. It’s not always relaxing because I make the masseuse dig into my calf to unknot it (ouchie), but I love it because I feel much better afterwards! Totally worth the $.

And good on you for getting back on a solid whole foods diet! Sometimes it’s hard to get back to it once you’ve strayed away, but once you get going, you’re on a roll. 🙂
