I like to wander. I find it calming, peaceful, and the best way to discover new places. Last week I took one of my days off and headed to Seattle to wander. I’ve been to Seattle handfuls of times, but always with a purpose. This was one of the first times I went with no plan, and I went all by myself. It also happened to be the first sunny day in weeks.
I got about 4 blocks from the ferry dock when I decided to stop for lunch.

This picture was meant to capture my lunch date..with myself. Empty seat in front of me. It was awesome.
After I face planted this “chicken” sandwich, I walked..and walked..and walked some more. The weather put me in such a fabulous mood, I turned left, then right, then left again.
No matter how many times I have been to Seattle I almost always venture to Pike Place, just to wander some more. It was a slow day at the market, and sadly the vegan scone I had my heart set on was gone. I have been wanting to try this scone for a while now.
Just when I thought my luck ran out after missing my opportunity with the scone, I wandered my way across the street from a place I had JUST seen on Cooking Channels show Unique Sweets (which I happen to be obsessed with.) I was sure they wouldn’t have any vegan chocolate, but I had to go in just to see what the hype was all about!
The super tiny, smaller than a quarter sized truffles were $2..EACH. NO WAY. I was just about to walk out after reading milk chocolate, salted caramel labels when I saw this…
4 minutes and $4 later I walked out with the most expensive piece of chocolate I’ve ever purchased. I blame my missed scone opportunity, and the fact that this place was on TV.
I’m trying to live my life on the edge these days, and spending $4 on this tiny bar of chocolate is completely wild and crazy. The presentation was gorgeous, well done Fran.
The story behind this store is exceptional quality products, from only the top chocolate producing countries. Fran’s passion for chocolate is like my passion for coffee, I dig it. Oh, and the verdict on my pistachio, toasted hazelnut, dark chocolate from Madagascar bar?
Meh. It went well with my morning coffee, and had rich cocoa notes at the end of my bite, but it wasn’t worth $4 that’s for sure! I think I’ll stick to my $4 cupcakes.
Q: Would you buy expensive food if it were on Food Network or Cooking Channel? Yes…yes I would.

I am obsessed with the Food Network and Cooking Channel! And I love Unique Sweets! Have you noticed that the girls hand who holds the sweets always has pink fingernails? I think this season they painted them red. You’ll notice now! I would totally pay more $$$ than usual for something off a show and I have. Not always worth it, like you said, but still cool 🙂 Glad you have a great time on that beautiful day!
Brittany
Bahaha I am totally going to notice now!
Change of Pace
Sounds like a day well spent! I think wandering can sometimes be best alone so you can go where you want, when you want, whether it’s purposeful or not!
I also love to visit the market each and every time I’m in Seattle. My favourite part is always the inexpensive, brightly coloured flowers!
Davida @The Healthy Maven
yes…yes I would. I’m a food celeb whore. I don’t care about designer clothes but I am a designer food shopper.
I really wanna visit Seattle!
Brittany
Agreed x 3984687436!! Food whores for life.
Laura
Seattle is one of my favorite places in the world – sounds like a wonderful time!

i love seattle! i’ve only been there once for a few hours when we drove up from vancouver but i love it 🙂 you’re so lucky you were able to get sunny, decent weather. today is -29 here. boo.
Brittany
Eww..so disgusting. Get outta here with that weather Canada!
Ashley @ Married to the Game
I like to wander too. It’s so much fun to just explore a city without any real plans! I totally would have spent the money too, so don’t feel bad!
Luv What You Do
I have definitely treated myself to a few expensive chocolates before. I love the decadent feel and it reminds me to slow down and enjoy every bite. It’s fun to play tourist in your city. I was in Chicago last year with no purpose so I just wandered around took pictures, people watched, and treated myself to my favorite tea place. It is a great way to explore and spend a day! I’d love to go wandering around Seattle again!
The vegan 8
That’s robbery $4 for a chocolate bar!! Especially if it wasn’t even that good. I went to Seattle many years ago with my husband and it was such a blast!!
Alex @ therunwithin
drool. I actually have to say the reason I am so excited for my mini weekend stay cation is that I get to wander all around dc. my favorite thing to do too.

I’m so guilty of going to restaurants/places feature on TV. My cousin and I made it our goal to go to every famous dessert place in baltimore in one day a few years ago… needless to say my stomach was not happy with me after. Wandering cities are probably my absolute favorite thing to do. You can learn so much about a place that way!
Lisa
I probably would do the expensive food thing, simply because it was on TV. You got to try it at least once, right.
I’m totally with you on loving wandering. Sometimes it’s fun to just experience where you live or another place by just wandering places instead of going with a specific plan.
Life After Swimming
Oh my gosh LOOK at that chocolate!! That looks like a perfect stroll!!
P
I’m all about finding those places featured on Food Network/Cooking Channel! I will scope out the place I’m visiting beforehand to see if there was any place featured on either channel that deserves a visit :P!
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
You are just the coolest person. I hope one day to have the confidence and sense of wanderlust to be able to travel alone. Ps that “chicken” looks incredible!! You’re making me want to go to Seattle, something I’ve never even thought about before!
Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures
GAHHH WAHHH STOP showcasing that beautiful city! As if it isn’t already my dream to live there again! WAHHH! BRITT! I am so jealous you can just go down there and wander and hang out.
But seriously, what a perfect day for a date with yourself! And hey, as for that chocolate and the accompanying price tag, #treatyoself
Seattle is seriously the most beautiful city in America. Glad you enjoyed it. And I love seeing it through your lens! Your pictures are stunning.
Brittany
Get your ass back to this state!! Oh, and these are TOTALLY iPhone pictures!
karla @ finding my fit
Food Network might be why I can’t get myself to cancel my cable….
Also. I want to visit Seattle. It looks so beautiful. Seeing it briefly wasn’t fair when I was out at Ft. Lewis. Can my job title just be COFFEE AND WINE DRINKING TRAVELER?
Britta
Oh I just love Seattle and wandering, too!! Ugh, I am such a sucker for things I see on the Food Network – I probably would have bought 2-3 $2 chocolates JUST because it was on tv..bad bad. Hmm that little bar looks delicious, but yeah, expensive and at $4 you should be so impressed with it and not underwhelmed. Oh well, now you know!
Loving all the beauty pictures 🙂 I can’t wait to wander with you eventually.
cleaneatingveggiegirl
That sandwich looks fantastic!! I need to find a good “chicken” option!

Here I was thinking I was all independent until I saw your solo date in Seattle. It looks like a fun day doing your own thing and at your own pace. But bummer on the chocolate!! I hate wasting money and a good splurge. I’m not too influenced by cooking shows. If something looks good I’ll try it, but I’m not going to try something just cause it has Giada’s stamp of approval. Yelp though. I trust yelp 100%.
Brittany
Pppsshhh Giada Schmiada. I’m all about the PLACES not the people!! HA! OK, so I’m a wad of shit, I would eat most of the vegan treats on food network shows.
Lauren
I love that you did this. I’m not one to go wander alone, I would get either bored and even more likely, lost! haha
Choc Chip Uru
Eep, I wish I could visit Seattle, it looks like a wonderful city!
And wandering around, eating and enjoying the sights sounds awesome 😀
Although alone, I am not a big fan of!
Cheers

I love lunch dates by myself, too! So peaceful, you know? I think it’s awesome that you just took some time to relax and wander around Seattle!
Hannah
I don’t know. I would eat the hell out of that chocolate. But I have a..um…chocolate problem.
GiGi Eats Celebrities
You know what I just realized? You walk and run so much, that at this point, you could already be in Los Angeles. WTF are you waiting for. There is a lot of WANDERING to do between you and ME! Time to HOOF IT BIT**!
PS: I cannot cannot cannot wait to go to Pikes Place!!!! We will MAKE HISTORY… Somehow 😉 We will use our imaginations. Which could turn into something illegal.
Brittany
Not that this will come as a surprise, but I legit laughed out loud at this comment. I also thought to myself, “MAN, this BIT** has a good point!!” So, let’s just quit life and start wandering to each other, we’ll meet somewhere in the middle..probably somewhere in Oregon. There are plenty of things I can think of that would be highly inappropriate to do at Pike Place, things that only Gigi could pull off…..
Amy
You are SO brave to wander around a big city by yourself without a plan!! That’s wonderful that you had beautiful weather too. Seattle isn’t exactly known for its sunny days, but it must make exploring that much better! I’m sorry to hear about your scone; that’s always disappointing when you have your heart set on something. But WOW! To visit a place featured on the Cooking Channel?? Awesome!! I’d probably do the same thing and buy something as a memento… And then eat it. Maybe. 😉
Becster
Looks like you had fun! Seattle looks lovely! Sunny days are great – always cheers someone up! No I wouldn’t spend $4 on a chocolate bar!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I love this about your personality: the fact you’ll hop on a boat and roam around a big city by yourself just to go exploring (oh and take a bunch of fabulous pictures). For real, this is a rare and wonderful quality. Not super expensive, not worth it $4 worth of chocolate quality, but the you can’t put a price tag on it type quality. Alright I’m rambling and starting not to make any sense (or maybe I didn’t make any to begin with), so the short of it is You Rock!
You’ve inspired me to go out to eat BY MYSELF, one night.
Brittany
You make complete sense, and your comment has made my day. The kind of sense only a fellow feline lover can understand. Thank you!
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
I love wandering too it is always a great way to unwind and pass time especially when you discover new things. Once again I am convinced we would have an excellent time hanging out!
An Unrefined Vegan
Ahh, you have great places in which to wander.
Hmmm…would I overpay just cuz something was on a food show…I don’t think so. I’d really have to want to eat it.
di @ life of di.
What a wonderful day. I love to wander too 🙂 There are several charming areas around Columbus that are so fun to explore. I wish I had a bigger city to explore but these work for now 🙂
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Gorgeous photos! I really want to visit Seattle again soon.
jessiebearwhat
I looove going somewhere without a purpose and just wandering. Best thing ever. And as far as the empy seat in front of you- sometimes you need some peace and quiet!
Rach @ This Italian Family
Ah, I love this post. Your wanderer heart and love for random adventures always makes me smile. And YES I would totally try food I’d seen on Food Network! In fact, I’ve done that often. Sometimes it’s amazing and sometimes it’s a disappointment – all part of the adventure, right?! 🙂
Melanie @ Happy Being Healthy
I haven’t been to Seattle since I was a kid. I would love to go back. That little chocolate place sounds awesome and I’m sure I would have probably bought some expensive chocolate too. However, $2.00 truffles sounds ridiculous! Your Pistachio Chocolate bar things looked awesome though.
jessielovestorun
I’d love to face plant right into that sandwich. Can I join you on your next adventure to Seattle? You tell me when, and I’ll book the flight 🙂
Life's a Bowl
Beautiful pictures! I’ve always heard that Seattle is dark and dreary but your pictures say otherwise! You make me want to visit… My husb goes out there at least twice a year for meetings, so I’ll have to join him one time 🙂
Meredith
Absolutely would have done the same thing and bought the chocolate bar (and probably a zillion other pieces of chocolate too!) you have great willpower! I get so excited to see places in person like that if I’ve only seen them on tv, so neat that you found it!
Melissa @ Al Forno Mementos
I wish we were best friends and we got to experience new places together. you seem to know how to do it right.
