Posted at 7:14 AM by Brittany, on January 15, 2014

    1. I have a new favorite snack/dessert obsession, originally inspired by Britta. I’ve taken it to the next level..dates OR figs, dipped in peanut OR almond butter. Plus 2lbs of cinnamon.

Photo taken with my new camera, more on that in my next post!

Photo taken with my new camera, more on that in my next post!

    2. I’m trying to figure out new workout ideas in an attempt to maintain my weight. I’ve gained about 12 pounds the last year and would love to shed that. I’m thinking runs between 3-5 miles, walking, yoga, Pilates, and LESS cardio. Yes, I said less. Ideas?

    3. I finished Mocking Jay..but I wasn’t blown away.

    20140112-183644

    4. I haven’t been to the dentist in over a year. Did you guys know I was going to school in hopes of becoming a dental hygienist?! Not very hygienically savvy of me. Speaking of school, I have a new direction. More on that..in…the future. I do still love teeth though…

    5. I went out after the sun went down for the first time in..forever. I had one drink, which left me completely sober and completely bored. I don’t like being out late, and I don’t like missing my sleep..that wont be happening again anytime soon.

I'm squinting because my eyes are BURNING FROM LACK OF SLEEP!

I’m squinting because my eyes are BURNING FROM LACK OF SLEEP!

    6. I would really like to hang out with Jillian Michaels..maybe get some cupcakes or something. I bought one of her workout DVD’s, we’ll see how that goes.

    7. I am LOVING spending one or two days a week at Starbucks in the morning when I have a day off. The atmosphere is just amazing.

Last red cup of the season!

Last red cup of the season!

    8. I successfully wandered World Market on Monday and didn’t purchase a single thing.

    9. I am missing the warm temps in Arizona, and really missing the outdoor adventures I went on. The cold air in Washington makes me want to curl up and not move.

    20140112-183634

    10. I never updated all you loyal readers about my end of the year haul I found using my coin counter app (scroll to the bottom of that linked post, number 10.) From March-December I found a whopping $9.37. That’s $4.37 MORE than I predicted! SCORE!

Side note: Rereading that post I linked to made me laugh because not only was it another confession post, but it included food I was obsessing over, something I finished reading, something about sitting in a coffee shop, and something about the coin counter app. At least I’m consistent…We won’t talk about the other things in that post…haha.

    Q: What’s your confession?

    b

I’m impressed with your coin counter app total. I ended 2013 with an even 50 cents. You are obviously a better coin hunter than I am.

Also, you have too many cliffhangers in this post. Looking forward to hearing about your plans for school and your thoughts on the new camera!

I did it once, and while I struggled with the push-ups because my arms are weak as shit, I wasn’t really impressed. I’ll give her another chance although after doing Insanity I think I may be hard to please.

I love Jillian Michaels but I tend to get annoyed with her after a couple of viewings lol. I need a “Jillian detox” every once and a while. Her DVDs are great though! Are you drinking a mojito? They are my favorite (and pretty much only) drink I get at bars 😛

I love that you admit wanting to shed a few pounds you put on last year, but then also admit that you’d love to have a cupcake with Jillian Michaels! Maybe you should wish to have a workout with her too 😉 I’ve always wanted to try her DVDs so I’d love to hear a review later.
My confession? I think my wine drinking is adding a few too many calories to my daily routine; but I love relaxing at the end of the day with a couple glasses 🙂

Ah yes, it has to be something incredible worthy to pass up on sleep; I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you. Maybe next time….don’t give up so soon.
I love the picture taken with your new camera. It’s beautiful.
I’m going to guess those dates were once frozen though, yes? I’m assuming that’s what the subtle white edge (i.e frost) is in your picture. Either way, I think it gives the dates more depth, although I will confess to having put frozen fruit in my mouth and then back on the plate in attempts to get rid of the white frost in my pictures. Oops. At least I didn’t serve that fruit to anyone other than myself.
I adore Jillian Michaels and have been listening to her Podcasts for weeks on end. I can’t get enough.

It’s funny you comment on the texture of those dates (I’d expect nothing less from a fellow foodie to notice those minute details) because after I opened a brand new bag I noticed they didn’t have the frost look. Not that this bag was old, but it was “older” than a fresh bag and that was just natural aging I guess. No frozen dates!

I’m not the biggest fan of staying out late either… I may be boring, but I’d much rather get my sleep and wake up early than stay out late and feel groggy the next day. And Bux is probably my second home… or at least it used to be. I don’t go nearly as often as I used to, but it’s definitely one of my favourite places to hang out when I need to get some word done. I credit the caffeine saturated air for that one.

so… i love dates. If you need to spice up your date recipe try my new obsession. (I have written a blog post on this.) Open your pitted dates so they have two pockets. Put your almond butter in the middle. Then sprinkle sea salt and crushed red pepper. It ends up being sweet, salty, nutty, and spicy. If you get bored of the almond butter, try mixing it up with coconut butter!!! try it and let me know what you think. I have brought these to many parties, as a quick appetizer. People have loved them!! xo

Love your idea of less cardio. I quit running after a knee accident during a marathon in February and have lost 3% body fat. Thats with ONLY walks (fast, but still, only walking) and pilates. I think the stress response I’d get from intense cardio caused me to hold on to fat. I urge everyone to stop working out to burn calories. I swear I eat much more food (real food and healthy fats) and I lost weight. Obviously the calories in calories out theory is flawed.

If you need more convincing, try reading The Calorie Myth 🙂 Good luck! It is hard to quit the cardio, but so so worth it.

I gained about 8-10 pounds in the last 6 months. Not a huge fan of that but it has been helpful for my ‘cycle’ – sorry TMI. I’d definitely like to shed at least 5 of that and put on some lean muscle. Just started weight lifting yesterday and am starting a plyo bootcamp next Monday. We’ll see how it goes! Too much cardio = my body hates me and (literally) stops functioning correctly. You look AMAZING and don’t need to lose a pound but if that’s what you want to do – I’d say go for it! I hope less cardio works for you too! 🙂

AHHHHHHH I LOVE THIS POST FOR MANY REASONSSSSSSSSS!!!

Ok, first of all – 12 lbs??? Pshhh I’m pretty sure you gained all muscle b/c you are constatnly working out and eat like legumes and roots. So I htink you look fantastic. I also have not been to the dentist in …. over a year but i am SHOCKED you haven’t b/c I knew that was your previous schooling…. What is up with us? We should just probably make an appt together and get it over with. I’ll hold your hand and you can hold mine.

OKAY MOCKINGJAY- didn’t blow me away either but – THE THIRD ONE SCARED THE sHiTTTTE out of me. No joke. Read it, but with the lights on. I had a nightmare that president snow was lurking on the balcony and then when I ran the two days after finishing it, I kept sprinting and spazing that he was chasing me. Basically, be careful. It is a dousy.

      Or maybe I need help.

Your going out and drinking one drink…. geez we are so the same. Know what time my bachelorette party is starting ? THREE FREAKING O CLOCK. End time – 9 pm. This girl does not function after dark, sorry guests. No crazy bar hopping for me.

I LOVE YOUR CAMERA !!! AHHHHH HAVE FUN!!!! Macro setting is my favvvvvvv!

I THINK my problem has BEEN too much working out!! Seriously, it’s such a sad waste of motivation because I think too much cardio has caused me to hang onto weight (I’m not eating enough to fuel for the workouts, I just can’t force the food into me!) It’s all speculation of course, but we shall see how the less intense stuff goes!! MORE casual runs for me YAY!

I am SO in the boat with you and your bachelorette party. THANK THE LORD it’s starting so early. I LOVE MY CAMERA SOSOSO MUCH OMGAH!

      1. There is now a debate in my house about how “worth it” picking up change is. (I’m winning..)

      2. I have never been able to stand going out remotely late. I need my sleep and it needs to be in my bed.

1.) I’m sosososososo excited for your camera post!!! 😀 (If you want, I can try to find the GIMP tutorial of how to create a watermark to easily add to all of your photos… Let me know!)

2.) KETTLEBELLS!! Okay okay, I’m like the world’s WORST weight-lifter, but seriously…. I love mine to death. Yes, it wants to kill me sometimes; yes, I feel like my arms want to fall off sometimes; but… I’m as hungry after a 30-minute workout as if I ran 6-7 miles. No joke. It’ll definitely help you with your goal! I found my 10-lb one at TJ Maxx (or Marshalls? one of those discount stores) for only about $16. That’s half the price of most stores, and it’s a gorgeous green! How can you not be happy about a workout when even your equipment is pretty? 😉

4.) It’ll be hard to wait to hear about your new decisions, but I’m so happy for you that you’ve found a new path!

5.) Uhh, my last drink… Well, I had a few sips of beer over the summer because my friend’s brother brewed it. Other than that? 2.5 years ago. But I do stay up way too late these days… I’m a morning person, but my guy is nocturnal. No, not a night owl. Nocturnal. So in order to see him, I have to stay up past 9 pm. Oh the things we do to compromise!

9.) Tell me about it… I love AZ weather! I can’t complain too much though; it’s been almost 70° and perfectly sunny where I live. Not quite tank top weather (I’m a wuss when it comes to the “cold” with this Renaud’s!), but spring hopefully isn’t too far away!

I don’t think you realize how happy it makes me that you’ve stopped trying to figure out your next step!! I think you are EXACTLY where you’re supposed to be!! I took a good amount of time away from worrying about school and my future and even now I am SLOWLY easing into it..we’re talking ONE class at a time for my remaining prereq classes!! LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO STRESS!

That first picture you took with the figs and nut butter looks amazing! Can’t wait to read about how much you’re enjoying your camera 😀

Girl that first picture is amazing! Like, it looks delicious AND the quality and stuff of the picture is awesome. Clearly I’m not a photographer or a foodie haha but kudos to you on eating yummy things and then taking beautiful pictures of them!

I definitly wasn’t impressed with Mockingjay either… at least not as impressed as I thought I should be, lol. Those dates/figs in nut butter look amazing!
