While I love growing my own produce, I reallllyyy love reaping the benefits of other peoples home grown produce. You can imagine my excitment when I came home the other night to find these sitting on my kitchen table…
If I had any doubts about what veggies to pair with my cous cous for dinner, they were instantly squashed from my mind. Also, not pictured were some heirloom tomatoes. I was inspired to harvest some Swiss chard from my own garden and create my meal.
Simple, yet oh so delicious. I ran a whopping 3 miles to earn this feast.
Speaking of miles, I am welcoming this week of “easier runs.” My body has felt so fatigued lately thanks to long days at work, running, getting a head cold, Aunt Flo coming to visit, and insanity. I am allowing myself to skip insanity if I feel too tired (I never skip my runs though.) There is not enough coffee in the day to give me the energy to do insanity at 8PM. Just no. Even this beauty doesn’t cut it…
Please note the DEEP pocket of foam. I now sprinkle pumpkin spice on top of my lattes to make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I sipped this amazing creation while staring out the window while it poured rain. Fall is coming..better harvest my garden while I still can!
Q: Did you get a good garden harvest this year? Your own or someone else’s?

My eggplants rocked the garden this year! Now I can’t eat store-bought because it’s gross 😦

Those cherry tomatoes look gorgeous! This has been a good year for my tomato and herb garden 🙂 But the CSA goodness has been my favorite part. Veggies out the wazoo!

Food porn. Those veggies are beautiful!! We have thoroughly enjoyed the harvest from our garden this summer and just planted a bunch of fall veggies! I seriously geek out about home grown food.
The latte looks phenomenal as well!
Amy @ A Desert Girl
I didn’t have a garden this year, but I advertise my willingness to reap the harvest of the gardens grown by other people. There is NOTHING better than homegrown tomatoes.
Lisa
That produce is absolutely gorgeous. My neighbour has her own garden, and I totally love it since she brings us fresh produce once a week, it’s the best feeling.
And also happens to taste the best too.
I’m glad you’re allowing yourself to take it a bit easier on the workout front, sometimes our bodies just need a bit of a break and slowing down is not always a bad thing.
I also want that coffee now! All that pumpkin spice makes me happy.
Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures
I can’t tell you the last time I’ve had ‘fresh’ produce – other than from my chain grocery store. You’re so lucky to have that at your fingertips – and cous cous bowls… I’m going to have to try that!! Dude, how you do both insanity and training for a half is beyond me. I did insanity on weds night and it’s friday and i’m still struggling to walk. WTF.
Easy run weeks are super needed during training, glad you’re enjoying them! 🙂 YUM to that foam – that’s my favorite part of coffee sometimes! 🙂 Enjoy your weekend!
kelly @ racesrepsramblings
Yowza. Those veggies look divine! I need to find a personal gardener 🙂 I tend to kill most plants, so I fear I wouldn’t be that great at it.. maybe someday. Have fun eating all that YUM!
Megan
Fresh veggies are the best!!! My parents have 10 different kinds of basil and tomatoes and a crap ton of other delicious things at their house. I occasionally have hydroponic basil in a cup on the window sill. Until the cats knock it down.
Your bowl looks fab! And I need to get more swiss char in my life!
An Unrefined Vegan
Pretty pictures! Especially that last one – a masterpiece!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh my. I just want to swan dive into your foamy cappuccino (??). Either that or drink it all 😉 It drives me crazy when there isn’t enough foam on my drinks, so that looks absolutely perfect.
Also perfect? Ninjaing other peoples’ produce. I didn’t get a chance to grow anything myself this year, but my parents did and I got to reap some of the benefits. Mostly tomatoes… Next year I’m going to have to plant my own because there’s seriously nothing like homegrown food.
kathy @ vodka and soda
i do not have a green thumb. let’s put it this way: mint is supposed to last through a bombing and my FIL has been trying to get rid of his mint plant but it just keeps growing back (he says it’s basically a weed) but my mint plant? hanging on by a thread.
so i eat stuff that other people plant/give me/sell. i would LOVE to grow my own shit but for realz, ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat.
cleaneatingveggiegirl
Last time I was home I totally snatched up some of my dad’s homegrown tomatoes…SO GOOD!!
PNWRunner
I am able to steal lots of zucchini from my parents garden. Well I don’t steal it, they give them to me by the lump some! Ohh the pumpkin spice lattes are making their debut!
Amy
I wish I knew people with backyard gardens. You’re so lucky — fresh homegrown tomatoes are my favorite! I’d plant my own, but… I’m in a rental, and I doubt the landlord would appreciate that. 😉 P.S. PLEASE teach me your latte-making skills!!!
Ashlee@HisnHers
I killed my garden after 1 round of green picking. Black thumb I guess! Your veggies look awesome!
Erin
My hubby dealt with the garden and it did awesome this year. And bring on fall!! Gahh I am so over summer!
Hannah
I could nap in foam that full! Yum. Take a pic of your harvest’s bounty! I’m always so jealous of other people’s gardens.
allieksmith
I want to frame that last picture. I am the biggest fan of foam!!

This all looks delicious! 🙂

Garden fresh produce is the absolute tastiest! My mom has dropped off so much of their garden goodies for us! All week we have eaten their fresh cucumbers (a personal fave), carrots, onions, corn, and tomatoes. I still have beets to tackle!
Hpe you’re feeling reenergized soon!
Elizabeth
i am a foam addict. i don’t know why but it makes me all happy inside! My sister shared her beets & tomatoes with me, and my nephews sold me cantaloupe they grew themselves. Very cool. 🙂
Davida @The Healthy Maven
If by harvest you mean my mini-herb garden, then yes! Well actually the basil died but I have rosemary for the next three years…Have a great weekend lady!
Angela @ Health's Angel
I would love a garden, but I live on the top floor of a house in a city neighborhood with no grass in the yard. Womp womp. One day!
P
3 miles or not, this feast is well deserved any day 😀
katalysthealth
Such gorgeous produce love! I only have blobs and herbs, but I have been enjoying both all summer long 🙂 Although my berries are gone now 😦 but at least my basil is still growing like a stinkin weed!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
You know I can’t help but love the garden produce pictures. It’s a wonderful thing when your veggies speak to you. It might mean you’re insane, but it’s wonderful nonetheless. Good for you for giving yourself a break when you need it. It’s so important, yet so hard to do.
Britta
I want that bowl in front of me right MEOW! I’m starving but cant eat cause I told myself I would go for a run in about 20 😦 Lame sauce. Those veg look awesome! Loving them. Also, I need to stop having pumpkin spice lattes from starbucks. Now I will just do what you do and ask for pumpkin spice on top of a latte. TOO MUCH SUGAR. but ahh, so good. So on that note, I may also be obese by the time Christmas rolls around. Thats cool.
Alex @ therunwithin
I wish I had a garden. we used to grow tomatoes and it was unbelievable how much better they tasted
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Looks like a great harvest!! We can’t get pumpkin spice here but I really should order some online and get it shipped as it sounds so good!
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
I got a good garden harvest from my mom! I haven’t had couscous in a while. I’ve been on a bulgar wheat kick lately 🙂 I love putting Pumpkin Spice on my coffee grounds before I brew the coffee. Much cheaper and better tasting than the artificially flavored kinds you buy from the store! Lovin that foam pocket and your consistent running 🙂
mynoblesseoblige
Hey, I nominated you for an award on my blog: http://mynoblesseoblige.wordpress.com/2013/09/08/i-was-given-the-shine-on-award/
Kristina at damntenpounds
Your veggie bowl looks SO good. Love all those bright colors! I say this every time I stop by your blog, but next year I swear I’m going to get my shit together and get a garden going. You motivate me 🙂 We have some fruit tree’s but no veggies. My biggest accomplishment of the year are the 7 pomegranates I have growing. It took us 4 years to get those suckers to take!
Life After Swimming
ohhh so pretty…i can’t wait to start growing stuff at our house 🙂
Lindsay @ The Functional Foodie
I wish I had a garden. Now I live in the big bad city of New York. My aunt has a garden though and I loved going to her house to pick all the vegetables I wanted to eat. It was awesome because her garden pretty much was a huge chunk of her backyard.
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
I have reaped a lot of zucchini and basil but that is about it. The racoons keep getting all the good stuff. Long days at work always make me tired on my runs even though physically my work shouldn’t be taxing. I guess it just mentally drains me though!
Luv What You Do
oh me too! I don’t grow anything myself but love cashing in on others extras!!!
moderngirlnutrition
Yes! There’s something special when it’s homegrown (or friend-grown) haha
alexvegginout
Hehe glad I’m not the only one who takes advantage of other people’s produce. And since I’m not the best gardener, I really have to to take advantage. 😉 Fresh grown is always better than store bought whether I grow it or not! (Most likely not in my case haha)
B
We had an issues with our tomatoes turning! We had plenty of them but they pretty much stayed green!
Nichole
I just found your blog – yeah! 🙂 Pretty sure I just spent over an hour here. Love the great photos! I planted my own garden this year and have had a lot of fun coming up with things to make when things have ripened. A lot of work, but WOW, there’s nothing like a homegrown pepper or tomato!
Melissa @ Al Forno Mementos
how are the tomatoes pictured different from heirloom tomatoes NOT pictured? I can never tell the difference. -_- gahhh make my coffee for me!! I love foam but there’s never enough. 😦
Brittany
Ask for your drink to be extra foamy next time!! WHOO! These tomatoes are cherry tomatoes in the photos, heirloom tomatoes look like this:

I hope that link worked. If not just Google heirloom tomatoes!
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
Mmm that produce looks great! I bought mine this summer from the farmer’s market. We don’t have a backyard and our balcony isn’t big enough for a garden, boo. I hope we will be moving by next summer so I can have a big garden of my own!
Rach @ This Italian Family
What a great little harvest! Those tomatoes look especially great! My poor little garden died while we were in Italy so I didn’t come home to much of a fall harvest, haha!
Christina Does It All
Ooooh man. You have me craving some homegrown green beans now. Now to find a homegrown green bean grower….
Meredith
you just reminded me that I need to get my pumpkin spice out for coffee STAT! That latte looks amazing 🙂 I had garden green beans tonight and they never tasted so good. Yours look delicious too!!
