I love caffeine. Give me a pot of coffee with some espresso shots on the side and I will be bouncing off the walls for hours. While I love the high that I get from caffeine, I would rather get this energy boost from vitamins. I’m a huge believer of using vitamins for natural energy. With that said, you can understand my excitement when I received an e-mail from Vega asking me to try out their new sugar free energizer.
A lot of endurance or energy products are super sketchy, so I was glad to see that the ingredients were legit. Aside from devils claw (which I promptly Googled) I knew what everything was, making it easy to confidently put this into my body.
I was shocked to find that they sent me an entire box, with THIRTY packets. This meant multiple reviews for multiple activities.
First up was a packet before a morning spin class. Normally I feel a bit sluggish for this class, but this time I felt great. One packet 20 mins prior to spin and you’ll feel like you’ve got the Olympic torch, pedaling as fast as you can to get it home. Faster, FASTER!
Next up was work. I wanted to see how this stuff stood up to regular activity vs higher endurance activities. I was pumped so full of vitamins that I was moving at lighting speed. I was pouring lattes and blending frappuccinos like the end of the world was coming. I almost had too much energy..almost. Seriously I felt cracked out, in a good way. Good thing I work with coffee and no one noticed, I’m sure they thought I slammed some shots.
Last, but most certainly not least I tested these out while running. Let me just set this disclaimer out there, these energy packets DO NOT turn you into Kara Goucher. I had to test these twice because the first time I went for a run with the energizer, I set out of the gate like I was competing for a spot in a zombie shelter. NONONO! Once I depleted all my energy within 5minutes I knew I had to try them again..and run like I do normally.
So I did just that, I tried them again before an early morning five mile run. It was amazing. I didn’t even need my morning coffee!! Well I didn’t need my coffee for energy, I still needed it for other morning rituals. I also lasted that entire day until after 10pm. Long story short I really, REALLY like this product! I will be purchasing more when I run out!
Q: What’s your go to energy source for working out? These are now my favorite, along with SHOT BLOKS!

Those sounds really interesting!! I usually don’t eat anything before I work out. For a quick burst of energy post workout I love a banana or some dates.
Saying that full disclosure for tonights workout I needed some energy so I had a handful of lollies, not exactly the best pre workout fuel but it was free! How can I pass up free lollies?? 🙂

Hmmm for energy… I use 5 hour energy for racing but that is all. Pre long runs I take ritalin (I am prescribed don’t worry) and that keeps my ADHD crazy high energy levels in check and keeps me focused. Otherwise I’d be like SQUIRREL!!! and disappear into the forest. You know all those forests in DC. I am also one of those obnoxious people that when I wake up I am at full attention . energy in approximately 5 seconds.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE vega products and so jelly that you got a freebie to review! i’ve been using Vega forever and they’re the only supplement line I use. their endurance gels are awesome; some of them taste like asshole but they totally work and the cleanest on the market.
VEGA, WHY DO YOU IGNORE ME?!?!??! but lucky you!!!

I really like Shot Bloks too 🙂 All of these Vega products sound great. I am a huge fan of Vega! I just wish it wasn’t so expensive for my nanny salary 😦

I use good ole coffee for my caffeine boost, but I’ve been looking for something to take before harder efforts and races. Sometimes if I’m nervous for the workout the coffee make me have to use the bathroom more, haha… sorry for the TMI. During runs I use a few different gel products. This seems like a great option to sub for my hot coffee on these freakin hot mornings! I’ve never tried Vega products (they are a bit pricey) but have heard great things about them. I trust your reviews so maybe I can find single packets to purchase and give them a try 🙂
Davida @The Healthy Maven
I’ve been lacking on energy lately so I could really use this stuff! I try to avoid coffee because it makes me jittery (in the bad way) and though I drink tea in the morning for some added boost when I want to get in an after-work gym sesh I don’t have the patience to drink a cup of tea lol. This would be perfect! I recently found out I am low on iron so I’ve been supplementing and hoping it helps a little bit too.
Wait, light up shoes don’t make you run faster? News to me 😉
Britta
Oh HOT Damn! Vega strikes again 🙂 I seriously love Vega. Mostly for their products but also because they are from Vancouver. Apparently, Brendan Brazier (guy who created it) has a house/apt/something in Victoria and always cycles where I go for runs – who knew?! I also have yet to see him, make him fall in love with me so that I have an endless supply of eye candy and vega products 😀 hahaha I actually haven’t tried the energizer so I’m gonna have to pick some up! I feel like this would be good after work when I tell myself I WILL go for a run but am usually zonked from work.
kelly @ racesrepsramblings
I’ve never tried something like this! I have been trying to stay away from caffeine a bit more lately, but I always do some caffeine on the morning of a race. This might be a good switch!! Awesome review 🙂

LOL, I love that you felt “cracked out” but in a good way haha! Loved the wording. I like to experiment using different pre-workout supplements. I’m digging C4 by cellucor right now. I’ve never tried Vega, but it’s great when you get a product of all natural ingredients.
Change of Pace
Those sound great!
I’m not a coffee or tea drinker, so I think any caffeine in the drink form would make me bounce off the walls!
Ashlee@HisnHers
Oh I LOVE Vega products. I was stuck on their protein powder for so long until I got tired of paying $60 for it. It’s delish though. I’ll have to try out this!
The Healthy Flavor
Hahaha! Sounds like crack! Never tried those products before. I can just picture you running around like a maniac at work, lol! My huge smoothie I have every morning gives me great energy. I love coffee just or the ritual aspect, but I certainly don’t need it for energy.
chasingchels
Oh wow! These sound awesome! I think it’s great that you looked up the ingredients you didn’t know before you tried it and then used it in multiple instances before sharing it with your readers! Definitely something I’m going to look at later this afternoon!
Hannah
I’ve been really curious about these! I’m too afraid to drink coffee before morning workouts even though I know I could benefit from the energy. I’m trying them!
EverdayLivingPNW
Holy energy batman! For some reason when I read this post I instantly think of Twitchy from Hoodwinked! Next time I see there in the store I will be sure to try a sampler!
sincerelylily
Well aren’t you uber popular with gettin samples and trying things out…. love the review. Love that you were actin cracked out at work, so yea, good thing you are surrounded by coffee fumes and scents. Energy source- I’m bad and don’t really do this. But if i do feel like having a bit of a something before a run- spoonful of PB. I have no idea if this is a good source of energy or compares to your caffenated sugar free sport shots, but by golly, tis good.
im pretty sure im getting no caffenine though.
B.
I really have no energy source when I work out besides music (haha). I want to do my own experiments with these! Especially before running instead of coffee!
Where can I find such magic?
Erin
Those sound wonderful!! I love anything that gives me more energy!
PNWRunner
I won a box of the Vega sport energizer. Unfortunately, I didn’t like the taste. boo. Luckily, my dad does so now they are his. I love crystal light energy in citrus. My fav!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
GIVE ME SOME OF THAT GOOD SHEEZEEE! At the conference I went to over the WEEKEND – The one you SHOULD HAVE come with me to… They had a booth and I love their SUSTAIN stuff, I got a bunch of samples, but I actually think I might make a PURCHASE!! WAAAHHH!?! Or maybe I should e-mail them about making a video 😉 You can fly down to LA and we can make one TOGETHER> Or shit, as this point, we could make a Skype Video or you could send me a part of a video (like we are having a conversation) and I can edit it together! WAAMMMM BAMMMM THANK YOU Vega Sport. LOL
PS: I have a TERRRRRIBLLLEEE energy drink habit…… Sugar free of course, BUT… It’s REALLY NOT GOOD FOR ME AT ALL……… BUT I LOVEEEE IT! (Not saying the name because I don’t want anyone to get any ideas lol).
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Devils claw sounds awesome. And like it gives you dragon powers or something.
Amy
I didn’t realize that vitamins could have a similar effect to caffeine! As a chemist, I know that there are certain areas in your brain that the little caffeine guys attach to, so I didn’t think about the other areas of the brain (and body) that vitamins would affect. SO cool!
And I absolutely LOVE that photo of the little coffee shots! 🙂
Kristina at damntenpounds
You got hooked up, girl! I use Gu’s when I run. They do have caffeine but I can always be persuaded with a higher dose 😉
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
I have no doubt that these are effective- even just a few sips of coffee get me going like no other. Thank goodness for caffeine eh :)! I find that my runs post-breakfast (usually yogurt with fruit, cereal and nuts) are the best in terms of quality!
An Unrefined Vegan
Vega couldn’t have picked a better spokeswoman! Such rigorous testing. I was big into their vanilla protein shake powder…gaaaaa!…but alas, I cannot afford the habit.
Dr. J
My first trip to Europe was to Ireland! That first morning I saw people drinking these tiny cups of coffee. I had my first Expresso and loved it!! I often have a strong shot of coffee in the morning before going out on a run. No more after that, however.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
You imagery is fantastic. I can almost see you carrying the Olympic torch. I can hear the music pumping and the crowds going wild…..all for Brittany and Vega sports.
Devil’s Claw…that’s a new one. I’m fascinated.
jessiebearwhat
This sounds awesome!
P
I’ve never given a thought to using energy products, but this sounds pretty good and natural!
Katherine
I’m a pretty hyper person who is um told to um probably um not use energy products, but maybe it’s just all that sugar righttt? Natural energy sounds like my cup of tea! And that last meme of your face? SO funny!
Melissa @ Al Forno Mementos
haha I picture you’re like the guy, FLASH, from comics. teehee annnnnnd cool shot of the coffee shots!! so pretty!
Corrie Anne

MegBek
OMG that story is amazing… You were out of the gate like a crazy woman! I would do the same thing! And that meme with your face… Quite the comedian girlY! LOVE IT!!!
