Did you celebrate national running day? I sure did. I ran a whopping 3.5 miles smack in the middle of the heat wave we had yesterday. I set out for more miles, but I got SO HOT I turned into a salt laden slug. I’m embarrassed to admit my opinion of a heat wave was 77 degrees. Regardless of my distance, I ran and that was the point. Success.
I also run to eat my body weight in cupcakes, but that sort of contradicts fitting into my pants. Speaking of fitting into my pants, in my last post I mentioned that my pants are getting a little snug!! I’ve decided to set a few daily goals in an attempt to fix that problem.
I don’t normally make goals, but these are simple tasks that can be easily accomplished. The paper just helps remind me. I should have included washing my workout clothes on there too. I am happy to report that the past few months I have been washing my workout clothes after EACH use!! That is huge, I used to wear my running clothes at least three times before washing them. Don’t judge me because I KNOW I am not the only one. Nonetheless, I have become more hygienic, and more wasteful with water.
My eats have been crazy boring lately. Boring, but good. Things like giant bowls of quinoa and veggies, tofu and veggies, more veggies. Basically non-photogenic meals. I’ve had no desire or motivation to get wild in the kitchen, I hope to change that soon. The most exciting thing I’ve eaten would be a tortilla with PB, honey, cinnamon, and banana.
I couldn’t wait to take a decent photo, I ate it right away. This was exactly what I was craving, which is why I am so excited about it. I can’t remember the last time I figured out exactly what it was I wanted, and made the magic happen within 10 minutes. Actually that’s not true, I really wanted to swim in Africa so I filled up my bathtub and threw in some toy elephants and giraffes. Close enough. Not food related, but you get the idea.
I’m starting to ramble so I will end with my current favorite jam. I am obsessed.
Q: Do you have daily goals??

Ahhh, 77 is totally my happy temperature bubble. But not for running. Ugh – don’t think I could make it 3.5 miles. Really in any temperature. I’m soooooo not in good running shape. And I did not celebrate national running day… *hangs head in shame*
I am big on goals! Yours are great!
I will admit it!! I don’t wash my workout clothes after each workout! Well at least the shorts i dont always wash. Usually every other workout. That banana tortilla sounds soo yummy!! Peanut butter and banana might be the best combo out there.
What is mason jar and why is it on your goals? I mean, I know what a mason jar is…. but what are you doing with them? YOu have to find at least three? Tell me your secrets.
The HEAT, although I love the warmth, makes running so difficult. I sweat and sweat and turn to slime that runs at snail pace. Psh, 3.5 miles is better than none! So yay for that!
Um… I am really bad about washing workout clothes and so is Mr Speedy, and his smell THE WORST. Like it hurts my nose bad. Basically, our home will have a designated area for sweaty clothes and if anyone misbehaves or we catch an evil person, we shall throw them in the room and lock the door and they will probably lose all consciousness and ability to move.
I need to buy some of that ‘sport’ wash… or one-time-use workout clothes.
GOALS: Eat a freakin’ real dinner tonight! I have been eating blahhhhhhhhhhh and boring too. We are tummy twins.
I have a problem of assuming everyone can read my mind. Three Mason jars of water!! The giant 32 oz jars. I’m like a FISHY FISH! I’m scared of that dirty clothes dungeon you are preparing…I never want to find myself in there.
Ahhh see if I were to make this list I would say Blender Bottle – my babes only 20 ounces though. Agreed with the dungeon, that sounds HORRIBLE.
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
ahhhh, I was wondering, too! 32 oz is awesome!
Ah! My secret is out…I don’t know anyone who washes their workout clothes after every use (as gross as that may be) but it’s quite pointless I think 🙂
I don’t really have any daily goals except to be active in some way and to not drink more than 3 cups of coffee per day, since I have an extreme coffee addiction where I can consume pots at a time and then have the shakes for a solid two weeks 🙂
Max always gets mad at me when I dont wash clothes right away but I just cannot justify washing ONE pair of pants/shirt..so naturally they sit for about 3-4 days before a wash happens. Oops. Lovin’ the goals! The whole clean eats, minimal sweets is one I need to work on.. I have been wanting to eat sugary, chocolatey things ALL.DAY.LONG. It’s bad. I hear ya with the run! I was a sweaty beast yesterday with mine.. oh my lanta.
I celebrated National Running Day too! I had to stay inside though because it was 96F in Texas. Can you say sweaty and gross?
Love your daily goals! I need something like that to keep me productive during Summer!
What in the world is a mason jar?! And I love that you went to your tub instead of Africa. Your logical and ability to get from point A to point B so fast truly amazes me about you.
Nice work on 3.5 miles, its faster and farther than all those folks on the couch!! Technically mine is a recliner so I don’t fit into that bunch…
Um daily goals. I get really happy if I work out every day. This is my first week jumping back into it and I’m surprised by my hesitation. It was kinda nice being a lump on the couch. But alas, my muscles are deteriorating. I am actually terrified for abs and push ups today. WHAT IF I CANT DO THEM. Wah.
HAHA refer to Lily loves comment reply above for the Mason jar answer. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO ABS AND PUSH UPS! Have faith my friend haha.
Great goals! I definitely make daily goals, too. 🙂
Change of Pace
Love the ‘clean eats, minimal sweets’ one! I need to abide by that!
And, no shame in admitting, I do not wash my clothes after every workout. Way too much water used, and way too much laundry to do!
di @ life of di.
I love your list of daily goals. I really need to drink more water, go to bed earlier and start getting up for my morning workouts. I’ve definitely been neglecting them and now that Marty is out of school for the summer, I need to make sure I’m at home after work instead of the gym every day – quality time 😉 Good luck with your goals lady! I’m sure you’ll kick ass this summer!
You and Marty should go to the gym TOGETHER!! Make it a date! Agreed though, quality time is much more important!
di @ life of di.
Sometimes he’ll go with me but 1) he is always exhausted after his work day and 2) he doesn’t like to stay as long as I do. 😦
My daily goal is to make it through the day and not upset my mom too much by my pessimistic mood. Lol. And I definitely think a good balance of clean eats and cupcakes will help you stay in your yoga pants. I’m sure they aren’t tight at all! Yay for running during a heat wave on NRD! Go girl!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
There’s seriously no better feeling than hitting those cravings spot on. I mean, things like falling in love or winning the lottery would probably top it, but satisfying that ever so annoyingly mysterious “I want _____” voice is gold. And I definitely approve of the combination of nut butter, honey, banana, and cinnamon. Good choice 😉
I couldn’t agree more, and I am so glad you can appreciate the craving satisfactions. I knew I could count on you to understand!
Way to set & meet those daily goals, writing them down is hugely important! I don’t necessarily set daily goals although I do have a pretty good idea in my head! Any yum for banana with honey, delish! 😉
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
Thanks for sharing this song – it’s so cute! It sounds like something that would be on my Deathcab Pandora station. I just looked them up – they are YOUNG. And RELATED. And ADORABLE. I just watched their Leonard Cohen cover – omg! love it.
I’m so jealous of your ability to identify your cravings so accurately! This is definitely something that I’m trying to work on. Same thing with the African bath. I get it! 😀
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
My post today is along the same line as this! Twinners! And that day looks pretty similar to mine 🙂 I usually wear my running shorts twice, shoot, do you know how much laundry I’d have to do! And 77 being a heat wave? Girl please, haha… come to Tampa… I wake up to 77 with 90 % humidity. Sigh. Let’s just say I drink lots of Masons 😉 I love pb, honey, banana roll ups!
I know I know, I am such a weather wimp!! I would die running in Florida..DIE! The humidity would kill me haha. You are a beast being able to tolerate that.
Oh wow just looking at your list inspires me.. I have been a little dirty/unhealthy in my habits and am feeling the effect… I totally feel like a salt laden slug too.. just sitting here!
PS- I agree it is THE BEST when you nail a craving.
I happen to think that pictures of your veggies are super photogenic!…but maybe I’m just weird! 😉
Awww you make me smile!! I’m just following in your veggie girl footsteps!
I definitely don’t wash my workout clothes every time I work out! I do air them out though…if that is less disgusting? But Texas + 3-4 days of outdoor workouts a week + summer = I need a new laundry habit. Also 3.5 miles is really awesome! Good job!
Air drying is good!! I do that too, I like to tell myself that it helps. Even better if you hang them outside in that Texas sun! The sun will kill some of the odor! It could also fade the colors though, so…that just means time to shop for more clothes sooner! HAH!
Hi Brittany! We also have a heat wave going through Seattle. I was set on running 8 miles yesterday, but at 5pm it was like 82 degrees….so I only go to do 6.5 before I was too hot and going to die. I do try to make daily goals, such as workout everyday after work in some way. I try to make sure that I am up at a reasonable hour on the weekends as well. I am there with you regarding washing my workout clothes….sometimes I wear them 2-3 times. If I dont, I am doing laundry all the time!
I live across the water from Seattle, so we are experiencing similar weather! You have it a little hotter than me though! We Washingtonians are used to COOL weather with RAIN! HAHA. I am such a weather wimp.
Yeah we are used to the cooler weather, but I cannot complain when it gets nice and warm!!
Michelle @ Eat Move Balance
Love your daily goals! I have a very similar list, actually!
Hm…….I am trying not to lick my screen because I have a craving for a tortilla/pb/banana combination…….
Rach @ This Italian Family
Oh girl, no judgement here! I have totally done that with my work out clothes too. I am trying to be better about it lately, though.
foods for the soul
Aww Brittany, you always make me smile! I wish I had toy elephants and giraffes for my bathtub. I think I have a bunch of MLB-themed rubber duckies at my parents’ place; maybe I should pick them up this weekend… And I SO wish our heat waves were 77°! We’re supposed to hit 105° on Saturday, which means it’ll be 70° by 8 am when I want to run. Or 85° by 9:30, when I actually get my butt out the door. Oh joy! 😉
Hahahahah I don’t always wash my workout clothes either. Shhhhh. And then I sit in them all day at work. Call me gross- I call it economical haha
Economical…I like your style!! I wouldn’t have thought about it that way, but it’s true!
Angela @ Health's Angel
Yeah- definitely don’t wash my workout clothes that frequently. I live in an apartment where I have to go down three flights of stairs to get to the washing machine, and pay $1.25 on top of that. Air drying the sweat, it is. 😉
I’ve been trying to put very similar goals into action lately. I’m good about drinking water and getting enough sleep but man have I been slacking with everything else. I’m pretty sure I ate my body weight in sugar this week and haven’t worked out yet. I feel BLAH. Not very healthy living lately!
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
Your meals sound exactly like mine. I’ve been living off of veggies and quinoa. It’s still tasty to me so might as well, right? Our creativity in the kitchen will come back..maybe next week. 🙂
those are some good goals, after my pants start feeling snug and i am too poor to buy a size bigger I write down goals like that. Just seeing them makes me be more mindful. hahahah I man I thought it was just me, I wash my workout clothes every few times too. Sometimes I go through phases of being clean and washing them each time but always end up falling back in the dirty wearing cycle.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I like your goals! I need to start making myself go to bed earlier, sleep is good for you. I feel like running in the heat is way hard, 3 miles can feel like 13.
GiGi Eats Celebrities
CLEAN EATS – MINIMAL SWEETS!!!!!! YEA BABY! That a girl!!!! 😉
My goal for today is to get into Ryan Gosling’s pants. Oh wait, that’s my goal every day. That’s probably why I am in jail as I write this. Yep, jails in LA county offer wifi and laptops! LOL!
I made that goal for you. Well and for the sake of salvaging my pants hahaha. Please hurry up and get out of jail, I need a partner in crime when I go to Seattle tomorrow. K THANKS!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
I BUSTED OUT of that joint… However, there is now a LARGE SUM of $$ for my head, so I gotta lay low this weekend!
I had no idea yesterday was national running day, but I celebrated anyways, haha! I went out for a 5 mile evening run even though I thought I was “tired”. It. felt. wonderful!!!
And I have to agree with you about the heat wave…anything above 77, and I turn into a slug myself ;)! Hopefully that will change over the course of the summer.
Alex @ therunwithin
I am so many goals bouncing in my head but hard to put into words. I need an earlier bedtime for sure
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
This might be a dumb question but what does ‘One Mason Jar before coffee’ actually mean?
I write down 5 things everyday that I was grateful for in the day, I’ve tried to add the goal of daily meditation and using my foam roller (which happens less than once a day).
No no it’s not a dumb question! HA I realized that I didn’t make that clear. I have a problem assuming people can read my mind. I drink my water out of mason jars (like the ones that spaghetti sauce comes in) and so I am now making sure I drink one before I have my coffee (32oz of water.)
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Lol that is too funny, love that idea 🙂
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
Great goals lady! I find that the only way I can ensure I get everything done is to write down each task for the day as it comes along…and as I’m sure you’ll agree, there’s nothing more satisfying than ticking it off as you complete it!
Kristina at damntenpounds
Eeek. Busted. I definitely don’t wash my clothes after every run either. I think most runners get that and wont hold it against you unless you REALLY stink! Writing goals out makes me feel more accountable. Yay visuals! Gook luck reaching all your goals!
Luv What You Do
I love your I run…that could be added to mine too : )
I don’t usually make daily goals, but make daily to do lists. I had things like working out to that list so I remember I have to get it done!
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
I would of been working for an hour and a half to two hours when you awake!! crazy! hahaha and I make a goal to sleep by 10pm too .. that has never worked out.
Oh man, I feel entitled to sleep in until 6am-7am these days after waking up at 3am everyday for a year!! Trader Joe’s sucked like life out of me when I had to BE AT work by 4am! HAHA! I loved those times though, wouldn’t trade them for anything! I don’t envy your wake up time though!
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
but I get to leave work earlier than other people!!!! hahahahhaa that’s the only good thing ..no traffic in the busy city. 😛
Life After Swimming
Those are pretty much the EXACT rules I want to follow right now! I need to stop with the tortilla chips that have been plaguing me lately!
Yep, I really need to up my water intake! AND my veggies. Man Ive been on a carb load recently! lol
Yessss! someone out there said it! I always used to wear my workout clothes more than once. They’re expensive, and I didnt use to have a washing machine.
Also, I’m super bumped because usually your website is blocked at work! Yayy I get to catch up on a regular basis now!
Salt laden slug… LOL. You really have a way with words!
I love that tortilla with banana, pb, honey, and cinnamon. Sounds PERFECT! I bet it would be amazing baked or microwaved. I put everything in the microwave, so I’m biased 😉
Mmm pb, honey, and banana is always a great combo – I will have to throw cinnamon into the mix next time 🙂 Genius! I’m loving your goals and can resonate with having them actually being on paper so you can re-read them and really know what it is you hope to accomplish. And uh, great song.. thank you for sharing
Oh hunnie, you would DIE here in the 120 degree heat.. oh & plus the sandstorms. They suck big balls 🙂
Hahaha I know I know I am such a wimp!! You have dry heat though right?? I can handle that..Arizona is my second home and it’s HOT, but tolerable. It’s the humidity that kills me! BUT yes..120 is WOOF..too much!
nice job on your run missy, thats a hot day for sure! And good job on the goal list! I tend to write more daily to-do lists, but I need to be including drinking more water on mine. Why is it so hard to get down water sometimes?!
I absolutely need to go to bed before 10 says the girl commenting after 10 p.m. I love daily goals and basically lists of all kind. Peanut butter and bananas ain’t bad either. The same goes for a bowl of veggies, unphotogenic or not.
I’m finally back and reading your blog Brittany! AH! Anyways, your picture spoke a least a million words to me, and they were all of jealousy! Those pancakes are seriously so beautiful! Yeah, I’m calling food beautiful! Are the mason jars glasses of water?
YES! Mason jars are what I drink my water out of, the 32oz jars! Love them.
kathy @ vodka and soda
what’s with the mason jar? are you making something?
and must try that tortilla with honey/cinnamon…it looks yummy!
Hahah I forgot to specify what that mean, I like to think people can read my mind! I drink my water out of the 32oz Mason jars..so..I must drink one jar before my coffee!
