Fact: Sweets taste better when they’re free. Most of anything tastes better when I don’t have to spend any of my hard earned cash money on them, but sweets are the top dog in this playing field.
I’ve been daydreaming about being a contestant (is this what I’d call myself?) on Extreme Couponing. While I don’t have the patience or the brain capacity to do all the work that goes into couponing, watching other people coupon is extremely fascinating. I may never have a stockpile the size of the Taj Mahal, but I do my part in couponing for civilians.
I was lucky enough to be born with sticky fingers, and while at VegFest a few weeks ago I snagged a “few” extra BOGO donut coupons. Six to be exact. I used four coupons last weekend, which gave me four free donuts.
*One maple bar was consumed prior to the picture taking. Donuts wait for no one.
These bangin beauties are from Mighty-O Donuts in Seattle. Only the best vegan donuts around the sound. Let’s do some math now. I spent a total of $3.78 on four donuts (My friend bought the other four making our total eight, but for the sake of numbers we will only count the ones I paid for.) Remember when I said all the lost change I found with my coin counter would go towards donuts? Well I wasn’t joking. I’ve found a total of $2.19 thus far, subtract that from my whopping total and I payed: $1.59 for four donuts. Oh sweet victory is mine.
I wish I could say the sugar faeries stopped dancing in my brain after I bought these donuts, but that would be a terrible lie. While in Seattle, I do it big. Both my friend and I had coupons for a free dessert at Veggie Grill. The donuts were packed safely for later and along with a delicious comfort meal, we had two desserts at no cost to us.
Damn if feels good to be a gangsta couponer.
For all health purposes I feel inclined to tell you the only thing I ate this day was half of that carrot cake. I saved my donuts for the days to follow, and I still haven’t touched my half of the cookie. As much as I’d like to go into a sugar coma by eating everything in one sitting, I just can’t.
If anyone would like to pay me large heaps of money, I will teach you my frugal ways. I also still have two donut coupons for anyone that wants to chat over coffee and sugar!
Q: Do you ever use coupons?

Impressive! Totally agree – free food is the best.

i want to come to seattle just for you to show me these veg places! i got nothing by me! i do have one bakery that has vegan rice krispie treats that are a whopping $5 each. I’d rather donuts or cookies anyday! I do use coupons and I use ones I print from WF website and feel awesome when I am going through all of them in the store because I have to see if it’s worth it still with the coupon lol. My family are crazy couponers to they got the whole coupon case and all in catergories, I aspire to be like that one day.
Brittany
$5 for a Rice Krispie!? Ppsshh heck no!
Natalie @ Will Jog For Food
Now I NEED a donut! yum!
I don’t use coupons as much as I should. I attribute that to my laziness, hehe.
pickyrunner
You’re bringing my sweet tooth out in full force with this. I haven’t had donuts in forever but I want one now and I want it to be free. Clearly with my sweet tooth comes my inner 4 year old 😉

Dibs on one of the donuts in the bottom of the box in the first pic!
Britta
YOU are amazing. Teach me! Teach me! I know nothing about being frugal.. NOTHING. It’s terrible. I usually forget about coupons, or put them somewhere where I cant find them. Oh dear.. I am a lost cause.
I also need to go BOTH of these places! I wanna go to Seattle right meow!
Andrea @Pencils and Pancakes
I use coupons a lot when shopping, and I also go to multiple stores to get the best deals
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
Everything is better when it’s free! (Remember my cupcake? that ALSO didn’t have time to wait for the pic, haha) I have to curtsy to your self control woman! I would have attacked those sugar bombs with no avenge! Props to you gangsta of the coupons, haha!
di @ life of di.
MMM those donuts look so delicious 🙂 And vegan? Love it! Also, that carrot cake looks SO good. Carrot Cake is my favorite kind of cake 🙂
As for couponing – I’m not big on it. 😦 I need to get better about it. I do use Groupon a ton – does that count?
Rach @ This Italian Family
Love your frugal ways and how picking up change has added up! 🙂
travels with mary
I LOVE coupons! I wish I had more or were better at it– we don’t even get the paper so my mom sometimes mails me the coupon insert!
spectacuLAUR
Donuts are not my favorite (I know) but I would definitely sit down over coffee and eat one with you because, well, I like you lots!!! Please teach me your frugal ways because I am the worst saver in the world and we have to stick together on this one so I don’t become homeless.
Brittany
I like you lots MORE! We can eat cookies instead of donuts, sugar is sugar haha.
Megan
Save the coupons for meeeee!!!! I never seek out donuts but when they are free…
allieksmith
I love your flannel! Very cute. I also enjoy using coupons. They just make the world a better place. :p
goodstorysarah
Let’s go out for donuts! Or Thai or any other amazing food Seattle has!
Brittany
Deal!! Seattle has it alllllllll!
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Ooo, ooo, pick me for the coffee and sugar chat! Except I live no where near you. Oh well, I guess pick someone more local.
I am torn when it comes to couponing. On one hand, I would hate dealing with all the scraps of paper and the hassle and keeping track of what’s expired and what’s still good. On the other hand, I’m cheap. I really like using coupon or discount codes when online shopping. I’ll seek those babies out before ordering.
I need to download that found change app.
Erica Wollman
Awesome! I was at VegFest Seattle too:) If you go next year we should try to meet up. I have been using my coupons too. The other day I got some Wayfare vanilla pudding and some wildwood teriyaki tofu. yum!
Brittany
Heck yes! I’ll for sure be going next year, I’d love to meet up!
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
I LOOOOOVE COUPONS! My favorite ones don’t have any sneaky fine print. I hate when it’s like “$5 off!!” but then you realize that you have to first spend $100 for the coupon to kick in.
Alex @ therunwithin
couldn’t agree more, it always feels good to save money. no matter what people say. i am all about my coupons
Boise Runner (@RunInBoise)
Everything tastes better when its free!
Life After Swimming
Coupons ROCK! I seriously wish I could be on extreme couponers too…I just don’t understand why those people don’t donate their stuff sometimes though because there is no way some of it won’t expire!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
I would LOVE to chat over coffee and sugar. Sounds amazing 😉 I wish I could be an extreme couponer! I am seriously terrible with coupons. I never use them. Teach me your wayssssss
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
I’m terrible at using coupons. Free food always tastes better though! I love eating baked goods that my friends make. So good!
foods for the soul
You have some AMAZING self control if you saved your donuts for more than 24 hours!! Just before Easter, I bought an apple fritter just to try a bite. And then proceeded to eat the entire thing. It was bigger than my face!!
Brittany
And this is why you’re awesome. Haha I would have done the same thing. One donut is only one, regardless of size haha.
foods for the soul
I knew I liked you!! I think we’re meant to be best friends… You’re so smart! :]
StringCheeseRunner
I tried couponing, but I got tired of it and it was really a lot of work. I had a coworker that made a bang off of products and she was very skilled at it. I just don’t have the patience unfortunately.
kathy @ vodka and soda
OMG those look SO good. i don’t coupon 😦 i should!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Dibs! I want to chat over coffee and sugar – maybe you could teach me your couponing ways? It’s always something that I’ve secretly wanted to get into, but I’m no good at it at all. Maaaaaaaybe I could do it if it was for donuts, though… maybe.
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Lol love this post! We don’t have nearly the same amount of great coupons here in Australia that you guys have over there but I so wish we did. Those donuts looked AMAZING.
jessiebearwhat
God there is nothing better than free food. And holyyyyy crap those donuts look SO good.
Emily
Stoooooop you’re making me drool! Whatever the eff that one covered in coconut is, that’s mine. I call it. Gimme!
Rebecca@RunningFoodBaby
I use coupons every once and awhile – they are not as good in Canada though!
Those donuts look sooo good! Can you send me one? 😉
I really like that shirt!
cleaneatingveggiegirl
Coupons are the best!! I definitely use coupons. I mean come on, it is like FREE MONEY!!
Nicole @ Fruit N Fitness
This made me laugh, I agree everything is better when it’s free! I try to look for coupons online and when there are free newspapers leftover on Sunday but for the most part I feel that the majority of coupons are for items I don’t buy.
jessielovestorun
If and when we ever meet, we will go get some donuts from that shop… coupons or not!
Nicole Marie Story
You’re adorable. I never use coupons because I don’t buy food in bulk. For the items that I do buy in bulk, such as toothpaste and dental floss, I use Costco. I do make individual negotiations with local retailers (places that I buy my Brad’s Kale Chips and Raw Revolution Bars) for discounts due to my regular business. So although it’s not a paper mandating a discount, I suppose it’s more of a handshake. So yes, I do use coupons. 😉
Brittany
This is perfect. I need to grow some balls and ask for discounts too!
sincerelylily
I have a feeling that when manfriend and you reproduce and have a house filled with pretty, healthy spawn- your couponing habit will increase approx. by 4576%. And you will amaze the neighbors how you feed everyone with a $4/week budget.
You are so cute! And that cookie is huge… I don’t think I’d be able to eat like your man, 4 doughnuts plus the cookie. Sugar comaaaaaaaa.
I use coupons… VS gets me everytime. Darn free panties.
katalysthealth
There is a veggie grill RIGHT across the street from me and I have yet to eat there yet. I need a Veggie Grill partner!! Be my friend and come take me? ;);)
Oh and we should probably get donuts too. Just to make sure all our bases are covered.
Brittany
DEAL!! I would LOVE to go with you. Oh we are SO doing this.
myhighonlife
I never use coupons but really should. Even with a job I’m broke… hmm.
That carrot cake. Get in my belly. Send the other half to me!! 😀
GiGi Eats Celebrities
OH GOOD GOD! Coupons for DONUTS – Are you trying to give me a heart attack from just READING your BLOG?! AHHHH HA HA HA HA!!
You know what DRIVES ME CRAZY! I get so so so so so excited when I get coupons I would actually use, I stick them in my purse/car and go into the store with EVERY intention on using them and then… WHAT HAPPENS: I FORGET TO USE THEM until AFTER I check out! MOFO – Story of my LIFEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! I did happen to use a coupon YESTERDAY THOUGH – I literally THREW IT IN THE check-out chick’s face saying, “SEEEEEE I BROUGHT MY COUPON – NOW USE IT, USE IT!!!” But honestly, a $1 off coupon on a bill of like $50 really makes NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL – Lame! lol
Brittany
Oh man, I will walk my ass BACK to my car to get those coupons!! HAH! EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS don’t discredit that one dolla holla!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
HONEY BOO BOO?? I love how I have never seen that show before yet the word HOLLA reminds me of her.
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
I haven’t used coupons in so long. whoops. but holy donuts. so many haha I don’t like donuts … they’re too sweet. I can eat like one every half a year. can we still be friends? hahahaha but yayfor saving money! 🙂
Life's a Bowl
Heck yes to coupons! I have a little mini accordion couponing book that I keep in my purse… Did I really just tell you that?! Haha 😛 And saving money means buying more, right?
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
Wanted to let you know that I just found a quarter on the ground! woohoo!!!
Brittany
Finding a quarter is like winning the jackpot! That is AWESOME!
Erin @ The Elliptical Chronicles
These are some of the most beautiful pictures I’ve ever seen! I’m not even a huge donut fan, but I’d go to town on those bad-boys 🙂
Mary
Coupons are 110% more fantastic if they are for dessert food. FACT!
P
Free food is the best kind!!! I always feel awesome after using coupons 🙂
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
I agree, free things always taste better! I love coupons but don’t use them near as much as I should! 🙂
Lindsay B
I don’t like using coupons.. mainly because I don’t know how. (I know obviously how to use them) but saving money like they do the shows.. I have no clue.. So I pay full price and cry everyday I see the total.
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
I am not a strict couponer but it’s always such a treat when I come across a coupon for a product which I actually would buy, discount or not! Nothing beats free/cheaper goods ;)!
B
Mmmm, donuts.
I use coupons all the time, especially online! I always search for coupons before completing any purchase and if I can’t find any, I might skip the purchase or try to find it somewhere else!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
What I need to know is who got that apple fritter. He looks like the bomb.
P.S. I think your math skills are sexy.
PPS. I posted a video of Max for you yesterday. He says hello.
Brittany
That beautiful apple fritter was MINE all mine! I didn’t even share it…well aside from one bite. BUT THE REST WAS MINE!
* Vegan Sparkles *
Those donuts are INSANE!!! Nice work!!
tinkerbelle86
i have total donut cravings now and i have to go do grocery shopping. *must stick to list* 🙂
Hayley
Oh my gosh maple bars are my FAVORITE. Need to get one soon. I have never gotten into couponing but it seems thrilling haha
Rachel
Coupons are awesome! Me and my sister just used a bunch at CVS yesterday haha I wish I could be like those people who buy $1,000 worth of stuff for like 50 cents, but I don’t think my state even allows it haha!
Pumpedpumpkin
You are making me crave coming to the west coast to visit seattle for donuts and. I can’t stand it! I’m trying to convince the husband to go next summer 😉 But he says he only wants to visit Seattle when it’s nice out hahaha. I’m thinking we need a blogger meet up including donuts, hiking, and more food. Heck I would even go to all the vegan places and try some vegan food 😉
