My ‘hood’ has had a few car break-ins over the last couple months. I decided to prepare myself should this happen to me. Once you have a break-in you are no longer a neighborhood..you are simply a “hood.” This is my car bag.
Inside the bag is: My licence, registration, insurance, GPS, wallet, and KEYS. Most important part of this car bag is the keys. This way I cannot drive off without all these driving essentials. Plus this gave me a perfect excuse to use the bag I got from this race. I bring the bag inside after I come home and hang it on my door to grab as I go.
Now if anyone decides they want to mess with my car, the best they are getting are some spare tampons and a name tag from Trader Joe’s. Suckerrss!! Speaking of cars..check out my G-ride. This one’s for you dad..
What’s wrong with this picture. OHH, there’s a missing hubcap! I might have shed a small tear once I saw this for the first time. I suspect this was stolen when the theives were made they couldn’t get through my G-force protection layer on my car. Or maybe it flew off while I was speeding driving the speed limit on the freeway. Either way I am too cheap to go buy new ones, so for now I will be the classy driver with a missing hubcap.
I made this recipe yesterday and it was a bomb. For those of you that are too lazy to click the link, it was pumpkin banana bread. I don’t know where I went wrong, but it was more like pumpkin banana mush. It tastes ok, but it’s definitely not “bread.”
I found a half marathon I want to run in February. That’s pretty self explanatory.
On that note I will leave you all with my biggest Christmas wish.
Q: Do you take any precautions to ensure you don’t get your car stuff stolen?? YOU SHOULD!!

Alex @ therunwithin
what a smart idea, i haven’t seen anyone do that before but if that happens a lot it is a great idea. can’t wait to hear about this race in Feb! so exciting.
Ali Mc
Wow you are a genius!!! and the smartest part about this is that you thought to put your keys IN the bag! Knowing me I’d probably make a similar bag and then forget it all the time 😉 you are a smart girl.
I think the missing hubcap makes your car look dangerous. It says – I don’t care if you mess with my car because I only have tampons in it 😉
Brittany
HAHAHA I feel more dangerous as the day goes on!
LifeByLex
Oh No!! I’m glad your prepared. I hope no more breakins happen! Fingers crossed. Love the cat lady tree!
di @ life of di.
I love the idea of having a ‘car bag’! I had my car broken into a few months back and it was really frustrating! Granted, it was my own fault. The one time I leave my car doors unlocked. The their tool my old GPS, old old iPod and some of my fitness magazines (they actually picked some over others!) 🙂 I love this idea though. I really want to do it to avoid another incident.
Megan
Your car looks just like mine!! Except my front right tire is missing the hub cap!! I popped a tire hitting a pot hole and the hub cap flew off and proceeded to cling to the undercarriage of a passing truck… I watched it drive away and was wildly sad. Especially since my car is leased so I will probably get a bill for that missing hub cap 😦
TorontoRunner
woohoo! do the half in Feb (my birthday month :D!!)
You are GOOD with the precautions!
Recently had a string of car break-ins in my neighbourhood, where people were stealing GPS stuff..so it’s opened my eyes to take a lot more precautions!
Brittany
It’s my birthday month too!! Which is exactly why I want to run the half!! YAY!
mrfrancko
First of all, you are hilarious. Second, hub caps are overrated and so 2006. You should just get some mean chrome spinners! Nothing detracts car crime more than spinners. Still spinning.
Crime in my neighborhood is more along the lines of walking on someone’s manicured lawn, so maybe I am not the best judge for this.
Brittany
Sooo 2006, I feel so much better having this confirmation!
HollieisFueledByLOLZ
Hoodlums in the hood. Don’t ask but seriously that is a great idea, and my apartment complex has had a few break ins too so I might debate this as well.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
So that car bag is a brilliant idea and one that I’ve never actually come across. i’m so bad with taking any kind of precautions against break-ins. My building has underground parking so I tend to feel pretty safe, but I should probably be a little bit smarter about it. And I may or may not have seen your hubcap lying on the side of the road on my way home from work yesterday 😛
Rachel Elizabeth
omg that’s such a smart idea! I only leave my umbrella and GPS in my car but I should prob keep my GPS out of it lol the only thing that hoodlums have done to my car is get keyed
and I LOOOVE that cat tree haha!
Rach @ This Italian Family
That’s a great idea, girl! We live in a city with really high crime rates so we never leave anything in our car (or if we do, it’s hidden out of sight). I love the idea of the car bag! Plus it’s cute. 🙂
Caitlin
I love your cute signature sign-off graphic! LOL at the cat lady tree. If I were you I’d take that pumpkin mush and mix it with plain Chobani, mmmm. Except that would not make it a vegan snack any longer. I always try to keep valuables like my cam, laptop out of sight in the car but I always take my purse out of it. I’m too paranoid not to!
pickyrunner
Haha I love that you are trying to oursmart those hoodrats ;P I love the idea of the car bag. Not only to avoid any problems with break ins, but also because I’m just super lazy and always forget things that I need to bring back and forth with me.
cottercrunch
well what goes around comes around. those thieves will get caught. So sad they had to pick on you though!
An Unrefined Vegan
The bag is genius! It’s so sad that you have to be genius about getting into your car each morning. I once had my car (my very first car, a Hyundai Excel hatchback) broken into not once but twice. They snagged a bunch of my cassette tapes (yes, that’s how long ago this was) – cuz that was pretty much all I had in there being a poor post-college-grad. Then the car was outright stolen and was found weeks later in a farmer’s field in Kentucky; out of gas, two flat tires, black fingerprint dust all around the doors and door handles and a pair of very smelly socks carefully laid out in the trunk.
Brittany
Ohh my gosh!! That is awful! I would have been soooo mad! Nasty about the socks too!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
Ugh, there isn’t a day that goes by when…. I don’t fear for WOLFIE… That’s my car’s NAME! He’s such a sexy stud, since I ain’t getting any I have to think someone is sexy – WOW GIGI, way to broad cast that to the world, you might as well go on the Bachelorette! Ah ha ha! I just try not to leave anything crazy valuable in my car… And luckily my apartment has underground, gated parking. So all I have in Wolfie right now is 18 million reusable bags, a few pairs of sunglasses, some heels, two ice scrapers (for all the snow we get out here in LA) & then 8 million COATS in the truck of my car. You see, my mom gave me all these OLD ASS UGLY (although brand name) blazers that are GINORMOUS… She wanted me to “sell them” to stores, well the stores agreed with ME in thinking they were raunchy and told me HELL NO! So yep, got those coats in the back of my car… And can I tell you something else? They’ve been there for 2 EFFING YEARS!!!
Brittany
My cars name is Babylove. Cause it’s my baby..and I love it..HA! So corny. Please don’t turn into this guy..
BAHAHA. Such a creep. Uhm…donate those coats!! Or maybe use them to wrap Wolfie at night so he is warm!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
UHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHYYYYYYYYYYYY Would this guy EVER admit this! I am so confused and albeit, a little uncomfortable. Oh great, now I am going to get in Wolfie, time to feel uncomfortable! AHHH HA HA HA HA
Luv What You Do
That’s a great idea! My apartment was boken into in Memphis which was horrible! Anything you can do to be prepared will be so helpful! I am looking for half marathons in February to keep me motivated through the winter!
mattyH
Awesome story and love the ‘pimp my ride’ plea! I’m sure someone will nominate you and you’ll get all the mods. Our hub caps were stolen from my ‘hood’ (officially now a ‘hood’) but hey – I’ll roll with it. : )
Brittany
Great pun you did there. Welcome to the “hood.”
Emily @ Have Your Cake And
I’m hoping that half marathon you want to run is the one I’m running in Ft Lauderdale!!! Maybe? Travel across the country? Yes? BRILLIANT!
laceyjbrown
LOL Wheel covers are expensive and you usually have to buy all 4 so you may as well wait until they all disappear! Sorry about the “bread.” That really sucks. Hit and miss sometimes!
Natalie @ will jog for food
Sorry about your “bread”!
The car jacking thing is scary! Be careful!
moderngirlnutrition
Bummer about the break ins and bread! Hope your week gets better!:)
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry
Hi Brit, first of all, thanks for your amazing comment on my blog. Second of all, I WANT THAT CAT TREE! Or, my cat does… I’m pretty sure it’s on her Christmas wish list. I’ll have to see if I can find it for her 😉
Sorry to hear about your ‘hood. I parked my car overnight at my friends’ house last weekend and some idiot hit me and smashed my taillight. Sad day. They didn’t even leave a note!
Brittany
Eww what a douche!! Karma will get them!
EverdayLivingPNW
Ha! The missing hubcap is wicked…I know a few cars around seattle I see all the time with that and I wonder if they are dealing drugs…lol not that I am implying, they just look like those lot haha
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
you’re a gangster driving around with a missing hubcap in the ‘hood. haha smart idea with the bag!
Alisha
My jaw just dropped to the ground with how genius your car bag is!!! Nice work! So simple but totally genius. And the cat lady xmas tree made me giggle hahaha
Brennan
Sooooooo….. spill it! Where is the half marathon?!?!
Brittany
As much as I would like to say this run is in Italy, or England..it is in my good old home state of Washington. About 3 hours north of me right by Canada! It supposed to have amazing views of the mountains!
Brennan
That sounds totally awesome! Also, that cat lady Christmas tree is unbelievable.
Vanessa
Genius idea for the car bag. But I think the cat lady picture might be the best part of your post. Love it!
The Healthy Flavor
You are hilarious girl!!! I died laughing at your post…not the thief part…but all the rest from your hubcap, to calling people too lazy to click on the link, the tampon, to the “hood”!!! You crack me up!! Love the bag idea!!
missymiller
This is exactly what I do when reading all your posts. There are so many giggles. I love to love ya.
Brittany
You ladies are too kind I tell ya. ❤
jessielovestorun
That’s terrible to hear about all the break-ins around your “hood”. Love your preparation though!! =)
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
A car bag is such a great idea! I’m definitely going to put this together when I go home. Just curious, when you drive somewhere (like the grocery store) where do you put the bag while you’re shopping? In the glove compartment? I read that your car is more likely to be targeted if there are potential “goodies” visible (bags, etc).
Brittany
It’s funny you ask because I was trying to figure out what I should do when I go out and about. I thought about bringing the bag inside with me, but that might be too much at times. I have left it on the passengers floor the past couple times, but you make a very valid point. The glove box might be a good idea! My glove box will lock too, so even better!! Great idea!
Life After Swimming
hahahah that cat tree! Also, what a great idea! That’s so scary that there have been so many break ins though!
Khushboo Thadani
That car bag sounds genius, my friend!! And the best part is that because everything is kept together, chances are you will never be caught off guard! The worst is being pulled over and not having the necessary documents to show!
Emily
Trying to comment! I need that car bag
Corrie Anne
Love that cat lady tree!
Irina @ Chocolatea Time
Great idea! I’ve been so unorganized lately and need to whip myself into gear! And that cat lady Christmas tree…no words other than love 🙂
Barbara Bamber | justasmidgen
That is such a great idea, I’ve been luck, knock on wood, that I haven’t had a break-in, in my house or my car. Good luck with your training!! xx
katalysthealth
My car was broken in to last year and it was HORRIBLE. They shattered both front windows, for the $1 I had in the center console. I was literally crushed. Stupid theives.
abbeyspiro
Wow, I’ve never thought of this and I lived in Philly for 4 years…what a great idea. Currently we’re living in Suburbia and there are like 2.4 car break ins per year but it’s still not a bad idea. Where did you get the idea?
Brittany
The idea just came to me! I thought about bringing all my important stuff in at night, but didn’t want to carry it by hand. Then the bag idea came into mind and viola!! I am sure someone else has thought of this, but I like to think I was the first! 😉
abbeyspiro
yeah you should make a special “car bag” and sell it! I bet it would be a hit!
Life's a Bowl
Hahaha, as serious as it is, I couldn’t help but giggle at your “hood” comment! I hope those hoodlums stay out of your business! And keep “riding dirty” without that hubcap, not necessary for function… 😛 But seriously, that’s a smart idea and something I should do. Ryan always nags me about how I keep valuables visible and need to be smarter, whoops!
missymiller
I have CDs in my car (what are those?) and a bible. I figure I’m safe in terms of temptation.
I love the car bag idea.
Mush is delicious.
The missing hubcap gives your car character and will also serve as theft deterrent as well.
Amy @ Living N Learning
The car bag is a great idea! As long as you remember it, which if the keys are always in it shouldn’t be hard to do, then it’s pretty awesome to have everything all together. The key is to remember to take it into your place with you. I could totally see myself leaving it in the car (minus the keys) if I had too much stuff to carry comfortably.
