Posted at 9:01 AM by Brittany, on July 10, 2015

    1. It’s been over two months since my last confessions post, we’re long overdue.

    2. I ran 4 miles in just my socks a few days ago. I didn’t have my running shoes, but wanted to run. I also tested the Nike app because I didn’t have my Garmin. I run in barefoot shoes anyway, so it wasn’t much different. OK it was kinda different.

    IMG_2279

I did this + another 1.67 miles. + 2 miles earlier in the day. 6 miles total. Almond butter by the spoonful when I got home…

    3. I slept until just before 8 this morning. That never happens, but my inner zombie took over and forced me to keep my eyes closed. This is now mid morning confessions.

    4. I received partner of the quarter at work and was humbly surprised. What a special treat, my coworkers are too good to me. Thanks guys. ❤

    IMG_2397

    5. It’s been in the high 80’s/low 90’s here, and I’m dying. I am loving sunny running though because it makes it way easier to spot shiny reflective road change. $$

    6. I am trying to justify why I need another French press because I found one that I need. Yes, need. It’s so rustic and beautiful.

    IMG_2344

    7. Then again, the last time I purchased a French press with wood accents it chipped immediately. This one seems a bit more sturdy though.

    8. Whattttuuuuuppp tomatoes from our garden!

    IMG_2632

    9. I started seeing a naturopath. He’s a cool dude.

    10. I’m still running in my five fingers that are a million years old. I just can’t say goodbye despite the holes…separation anxiety to the max.

This photo is a month old. It's gotten worse.

This photo is a month old. It’s gotten worse.

I did finally buy a running hat though… so that’s something.

    Q: What’s your confession?

OMG. You crack me up. In your socks??? I love it.

Congrats on the Partner of the Quarter – that’s so awesome!!

As for your holy shoes…dude, if you can run in socks, you don’t need a new pair of shoes anytime soon! lol!!!

I’m interested in hearing more about your naturopath experience. 🙂

When my husband’s shoes start looking like your VFFs, they mysteriously disappear. I have NO idea what happens to them. *adjusts halo*

french press…i have one but i’ve never used it. i actually found it a while back and asked my husband: what the hell is this thing and how do you use it?

how is that different from say, the coffee you brew in a coffee machine?

French press coffee is much different than drip coffee. For starters, it’s an immersion brewing method versus a pour over/drip meaning the grinds sit in the water instead of the water being poured over the top of the grind and quickly passing through them. This means the grinds for French pressed coffee should be coarser than that of a drip machine. The immersion method allows for a deeper, and more robust flavor of the coffee. The extraction of flavor varies by each brewing method. Where a French press varies from drip coffee, espresso shots pulled from an espresso machine vary from a siphon brew. It’s all based on science. 😉 That’s a very basic answer too.

      1. I LOVE these posts!! I totally wouldn’t mind if you did them more often. 😉
      2. WHAT??? I love walking around barefoot in the summer, but running… Now that’s an entirely different story. Probably because I’m a wimp and it’s a million degrees here and I’d get third degree burns about 5 steps into my run.
      4. CONGRATULATIONS!!! You really deserve it Brittany. You’re so sweet, positive, and friendly — they’re so lucky to have you as a partner!
      5. I’d kill for those temps! We were in the 105-110° range the past two weeks… And then this week, it’s been barely 70° and cloudy and rained a few times. I’m loving that!
      8. I can’t wait to plant a garden! It’s kind of hard in our current apartment, but we move at the end of the month. Fingers crossed!

My confession? Umm… I haven’t baked in over 2 weeks and am kind of stressing out about that and blogging. But life happens and I’m getting better at trying to relax and go with it!

Why did you decide to see a naturopath? That’s interesting! My confession is that I am eating birthday cake Oreos dipped in yonanas right now. I guess that’s not something I need to confess, more like PROFESS!

I’ll blog more about my naturopath in the future, but basically I’ve had no success with three “regular” doctors and wanted a more natural approach to an ongoing (non life threatening) issue. Plus I’ve always wanted to see one, and I’m also getting a food allergy test because 90% of the food I eat hates me. ha.

PROFESS INDEED, holy cow that sounds good.

Confession: I *may* have accidentally ground up a dead June beetle with the precious Banana Nut Cream coffee beans he got for Father’s Day and been too cowardly to speak up. This is a *maybe.* I’m not owning up to it. I can’t promise this won’t show up on my blog soon though….

I’m intrigued by the Naturopath. What does he do? Tell me more.

LOL socks?! YOU are a beast. Ok, but seriously, i’m gonna act like your mother and tell you that you NEED to get new shoes! Maybe just keep those shoes as a “medal” and wear new ones?! lol I’m just all about injury prevention now, ya know! LOL

I’m going to buy a french press this morning. Target has one for like, $30, so i’m gonna test it out finally! Of course, it helped that someone told my Hus that french press coffee was the best….now HE thinks we NEED it…men.

I’m ALL about new shoes for injury prevention, but when the shoes are minimalist and the holes make no difference for injury…it’s HARD TO RETIRE them! HAHA.

My French press was $20. One of the perks of French presses are their inexpensive brewing method. The press itself is cheap, and you don’t need to continuously buy filters to brew. It’s a one and done deal! I agree that French press coffee is the best, each and every brewing method brings out different flavors of the coffee. With the immersion style brewing method of a press, you get a richer and deeper coffee flavor than you would with a standard drip.

You’ll just want to make sure you get beans that are specifically ground for a press, they need to be more coarse than most. Also make sure you don’t over/under steep them. 4 minutes is standard. Any longer and you risk over extraction and a very intense flavor.

Ya I was going to go with the $20 one at Target, but it only made like, 3 cups? The $40 one makes 8! and we NEED 8 cups in our house! haha. Good to know about NOT going over 4 minutes…I could see my Hus going longer thinking it’ll be like espresso or something lol. (He wants an espresso machine now, but i’m hoping this french press will change his mind…lol) Grind them coarser – noted! We have a grinder, so we’ll just have to make sure to set it for a coarser grind! Thanks for the tips! 🙂

The shoes allow you to run in a way that allows you to use your body mechanics 100%. Totally natural, and with your knees as your natural shock absorber. They aren’t for everyone, but I found as I transitioned to completely minimalist running my running improved and my knee pain went away. I just love them. Much less bulk on my feet makes me feel lighter too.
