The calendar says February, but the atmosphere says April. Washington has had exceptional weather lately, and despite the fact that this is TOTALLY NOT NORMAL AND WE’RE ALL GOING TO BURN THIS SUMMER, I’m enjoying it.
I’ve hung up my parka and brought out my hiking shoes. The sun makes me itchy for activity, and that consists of anything that gets me moving. Things like…
My latest weekend “long run” was a success. This is always a good thing.
Burning 800 calories before 10 am meant two desserts that day. In an attempt to prevent over indulging in sweets, I’ve been eating dessert…every day. This daily consumption also motivates me to move more. What’s similar to running?
Nature walks tide me over long enough until I can do my favorite outdoor activity…
I made it out for a solo hike on Sunday, and despite the weekend crowd it was delightful. An extra mile up the mountain resulted in complete solitary. 5 moderately simply miles earned me a kick ass view, and over a pound of food for my belly.
Not including dessert
Thank you Whole Foods, your vegan cupcakes make my mountain loving heart flutter.
My dear friend Lily painted me a mountain scene for my birthday, and I adore it so very much. Also, can we just take a moment to talk about how dapper my wall looks with my new poster? Mountains, tree’s, and leaves OH MY.
As you can see, I clearly have impeccable decorating skills.
It’s time to donate my layer of blubber to a seal in Antarctica, hibernation is OVER.
Q: What are your favorite outdoor activities?

OMG so jealous of that weather!!! We are still sadly living in the arctic 😦
Lovely photos… I love being in woodland. Sitting, writing, drawing, cycling, walking… any under the cover of leaves!
That Hiking Guy
What are my favorite activities? I am gonna go with Hiking lol…but actually I like everything outdoors. Whatever gets me out of fluorescent lighting has my vote. Great Post
I love hiking too, having a chance to admire those beautiful views. I’ve always wanted to go up Pikes Peak, I have made it half way twice. The first time I wasn’t used to altitude, so I had to climb down. This past summer I wasn’t able because of the weather, there were thunder storms all the time, which is dangerous above tree line, so I made it half way again. But it is in my buck list!
Oh…so looking forward to hiking. Imagination is in motion and the snow outside is glittering.
Spring means foraging for wild foods! The relatively mild and wet winter bodes well for riotous spring growth, it does…
That weather looks gorgeous! Enjoy it while it lasts 🙂

I love all of your adventure pics! Especially the ones of food 😉 That scone looks so densely perfect. And I wouldn’t be HRF if I didn’t say, Great run my lady!
Thank you for noticing the scones density, that was my favorite part about it.
I am so incredible envious of your weather!!! I almost don’t remember what that feels like!! LOL!
You are sooo lucky! I am on the east coast, and it has snowed twice last week. Snow still covers the ground, and they are saying this has been the coldest february since 1930s. Anyway, I am hoping that by early april warmer temperatures will arrive. I can’t wait for the snow to melt and to get outside!
I definitely wish it was outside running weather here in MI! Well, some ppl consider it outdoor weather, I’ve lost my taste for freezing my buns off. The views of both nature and desserts are awesome!
Amy @ A Desert Girl
That cupcake looks so good. We were enjoying lovely weather last week – I went for a nice run on Saturday. But Sunday it turned cold and it has stayed that way. A few little snow flurries. It’s not Boston and I have nothing to complain about. Hiking looks great. I’m excited to do more of that when it gets nice again.
haha yesss. We Pacific Norh Westerners are really gonna get it this summer. haha. oh gosh.
yumm dessert looks amazing.!
and favorite outdoor activity.. watching the sunrise, running, stretching or drinking a coffee during a drive.. I just love to watch the sun come up, doesn’t matter what I’m doing
Drinking coffee while on a drive to find the perfect spot to watch a sunrise sounds like the best idea EVER.
I always forget just how much I love being outside. I am so much happier when it’s nice and warm. SO jealous your weather is finally turning around. We’re still in the teens over here. I REALLY WANT TO GO HIKING. I think I’m living in the wrong part of the country… your pictures are gorgeous.
We’ve had amazing weather down here in Utah too and I have LOVED it so much!!! I do hope our summer isn’t too crazy hot though. 😉 All of your pictures are absolutely gorgeous and I love how green everything is! I also love that delicious looking cupcake. Ahhhh!
I’m sorry but I am better 5he you except it

My family back in Ohio are a bit jealous of our weather right now! I know it’s not normal, but I’m enjoying it anyway!
I love hiking, but honestly haven’t done much since I moved here (I’m terrible, I know). When I do head out, I guess I know who to ask about where to go!
Christina Does It All
Yay for great weather! Texas has been beautiful lately too but as of yesterday we went from 70 to 30 degrees and I usually love the cold but am currently DYING. I just need time to prepare for cold weather. Texas does not grant me this request.
ANYWAY. Weather rant over. Lovely pictures, as usual. I want to hike, run, walk and eat sweets with you one day.
I want some sunshine too! Winter is clinging on over here! OMG that cupcake looks DELICIOUS xo
Love your photos!
I cannot even begin to start thinking about outdoor activities. Toronto is still snowy and frozen. I hope that I’ll be able to venture into the great outdoors before my 5k in May. Love all your hiking pictures! Enjoy the sunshine!
oh man all these nature pictures have me craving the great outdoors! it’s never really too cold here in LA, but we do have to drive pretty far to get away from all the people. But I guess I do have the beach, and that’s beautiful [as long as you don’t get too close, hellooooo pollution!]
AHH! I love love LOVE WF’s vegan chocolate cupcakes! Best frosting ever. And I even had a friend work in a WF bakery for a while! Small world. 🙂 So happy for you that the temperatures are warmer and you’re able to feel your fingers and toes again during the day! I know how painful that can be… And since we don’t have any good hiking trails nearby (that’s what happens when you live near a big city where the landscape is as flat as a pancake), I’m living vicariously through you!
Your pictures look beautiful Brittany! I am particularly drawn to the vegan cupcake topped with raspberries though. Probably because I skipped dessert tonight and am hungry, but also because it looks lush! 🙂
Thank you friend! ❤
I hate that you have beautiful weather and get to be outside. Not for you… for me. It’s awesome for you but I’m still stuck in 3 feet of snow and frigid temps. Ugh… but I love the pictures. I will stare at them and daydream of warmer days when I too can go hiking. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We’re having abnormally gorgeous weather up here in AB too, which has me convinced that the world is about to end. I don’t ever remember any winter where we had so many weeks in a row of above freezing temps. The only thing is a serious lack of sun, but I can deal with that as long as it’s not freezing cold. And the outdoor activity question is a no-brainer — snowboarding 😀
The Zen Kat
Favorite outdoor activities? Hiking with you in Washington of course! Let’s make that happen again one of these days! 😀
I would love nothing more!! With donuts of course! 🙂
GiGi Eats Celebrities
I AM COMING…And, SMELLING your donuts! lol!
I want to move too. Single digit or negative single digit temperatures means I hibernate instead. I will say I kind of dig that about winter though. It gives you the freedom to curl up on your couch in PJ’s with a glass of wine and a cat and feel luxurious as opposed to lazy. When the temperatures starting increasing here, I will of course feel differently. Until then, I shall enjoy my couch and live vicariously through you.
I love how you always “top off” your pics with chocolate decadence. 🙂 Good for you for having this energy and motivation. I have been hiding at my mom’s in Puerto Rico for 3 weeks and return to -16 temperatures on Thursday. 😦 😦 Sorry to say, I will be hibernating.
Good job on the long run!! I’m forever checking the weather in Portland (b/c that is our dream place to move) and it’s been nice there practically all winter! The perfect winter IMO! But I don’t think that’s normal….lol
Definitely not normal, but I adore me some Portland!
Grrr I am jealous of your weather! Today I walked to work in -20…not good at all! I am over the frigid temperatures and want to drink ICED COFFEE again!
I plan to hike a lot more this Spring with my new roomie. She needs to find some sort of exercise she likes and I need to take pictures. Pure bliss! 🙂
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Finding a restaurant when I’m hangry. The best outdoor acitvity there is. I need that cupcake!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
LMFAO!!!!!! That should be an Olympic Sporting EVENT!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
You know what I find nuts?!?!?!?!? That BEARS actually hibernate – and DO NOT EAT for X amount of months too!!!!!!!! I eat like a bear coming out of hibernation every single day! LMFAO!
I love being outdoors just for the sake of it, but if I had to choose an activity it would be hiking. Or biking. Or playing with the kids. Or camping. Okay, most things are much better if done in the great outdoors 😀
Nicole Marie Story
The pictures of your nature walk make me long for the same experience! It’s still so cold and bitter here. I can’t wait to ride my bicycle with G-money in her new BuddyRider (google it – you will laugh so hard). The cupcake is pretty… I had the vanilla with purple frosting by whole foods for my birthday!! xo
I love the buddy rider. I STILL need a bike, what’s wrong with me!? I’ve been telling you this for years now. I stare at them when I go to REI, and even have someone explain them to me occasionally, yet I haven’t bit the bullet. I have no reason not to.
Also, I can’t comment on your posts!? Not sure why…so I just continue to “like” them instead.
Nicole Marie Story
You flatter me so!! I was the same way with regard to bicycles. It was 2011 when I bit the bullet, and I ended up buying 3 in one year!! Plus one tail wagon by burley!! Luckily G-money is thinner now, so we can use the buddy rider instead of that big fat wagon, haha:) And I bought 3 because each type isn’t good consistently for different terrain! I needed a street, a mountain, a hybrid… #addict. Comments are closed on my posts because the haters were getting too hateful, and it just wasn’t pretty. Each time that you like one of my posts, I jump for joy. Have a good day, darling friend:):) xo
It’s frigidddddd here in NYC! I should be there! Awesome job w the running, let’s run togetherrrrrr!
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy
Can you send some of that nice weather my way please? It is SO cold here in the UK and I want to go on a nice run in Spring weather.
Love the pics, nature and cake, perfect! 🙂
I read this about 6 times: “The calendar says February, but the atmosphere says April.” I couldnt quite get my head around it because in boston the calendar says february but the atmosphere says hell has frozen over. Therefore im living vicariously through you because i had forgotten what trees look like… they’re so green!
Cupcakes from Whole Foods absolutely rock my world! I often ask myself how they are vegan and how they make them exactly because I want to make them all the time! So good. Hasn’t the weather been crazy?!?! I mean, great but also so so weird! I think last year at this time we had one very miserable snow storm in Vancouver… which is also weird.
I have been walking to work! Which, isn’t necessarily outdoorsy or in the mountains at all, but its been absolutely gorgeous so I don’t mind the 30min walk!
Whole Foods is just a crack house, I love it. I wish I lived closer to one, and only get to go when I’m in Seattle. Sometimes I make trips to Seattle just to wander and go to Whole Foods….aha. I also wish I lived closer to my work, so that I could walk!
jealous! i want to climb some mountains, but i’m cuddled inside and watching it snow snow snow. my activity will be some yoga, but it’s really not the same, is it? i swear i’m gonna make it out there soon though – your pictures have me convinced it’s my second home. i’m also gonna need a list of where you get your treats – that scone? i’d climb any mountain for that 🙂
where did you get this watch tracker thingy!? haha It’s so cool! x
I ordered it online many moons ago! It’s a Garmin 110, but they make a ton of other models. REI sells them, some sporting stores, and online too. Go to Garmin.com to see other options!
Is that a Mickey pumpkin out in February?? Girl after my own heart.
YES!!! I love that you noticed that, hahaaaa.
That cupcake is a work of art. I am absolutely loving the warmer weather. A year ago I was wrapping a scarf around my face because of biting freezing wind, but I’m already wearing tank tops. To be fair, I always wear tank tops because I live in my workout clothes, but whatever.
Ah that scenery – it’s just like what’s on my doorstep too here in the Lake District UK, although we haven’t quite got the warmer weather yet so the warmer, leafy, sunny hikes will have to wait a little longer!
Rach @ This Italian Family
I’m so jealous that your weather is so nice right now! Enjoy all those outdoor activities! Hopefully soon I’ll be out hiking too! 🙂
tiffany @ with sparkles
totally jealous that you have all these beautiful hiking naturey places at the tip of your fingers!!
SO jealous that you have these beautiful naturey places at the tip of your fingers!!
I LOVE that you spend free time outdoors! That’s something I’m not good at…which leads me to say that my favorite outdoor activity is drinking wine outside at local wineries…woof.
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness
I feel like we should live near each other so that we can go for long hikes and then afterwards eat copious amounts of dessert together 🙂
Picturesque photos…have you been to parks in northwestern Oregon yet? That blueberry scone is to die for! Where is this interesting local GF/V bakery? I was at Whole Foods Philly and they had tons of vegan baked goods…I went crazy and got myself a massive chocolate chip-raisin cookie…it was huge! And this is a gorgeous cupcake by the way! Wishing you a fantastic day, Britt!
Thank you! I’ve only been to a few places in Oregon to explore, but none that were actual hikes. I NEED to explore Oregon more, it’s so close!! When I do, you and I must get together for coffee and THAT COOKIE.
The bakery is called Flying Apron ( http://www.flyingapron.com/ ) and Whole Foods sells their products along with PCC. I just adore their stuff!
Delicious Peace of Mind
Yay for nicer weather and outdoor activities! Last weekend we really had an amazing, springlike days, which we spent running near the river, walking and meditating in the sun. Can’t wait for an official coming of the spring! May you have many sunny days! 🙂

Oh! I’m SOLD! Bought The Weatherman and loved it so much I had to immediately get the Northern Hemisphere one. Love it! Thanks for bringing such beautiful music to my attention :-).
Oh, WOW! I love this comment so much!! You’re more than welcome, happy to share his stuff and I’m jazzed you liked it!
An Unrefined Vegan
It’s the kind of music I just love. And perfect for moody winter days :-).
Hi, I was wondering what kind of watch you used to pace yourself. I’m in the market for one. Thanks. 🙂
My watch is the Garmin 110. I’ve had this one for almost 4 years now, and I love it! It’s in the middle as far as price goes, and had just the right bells and whistles I was looking for. If you check out their website you can browse all their watches!
I love your wall just as much as I love that cupcake ❤
Wow! Great run. Yes, hibernation is over – take that Mother Nature! Your hiking shots in nature look lovely. The last two weeks have just been ice, snow, ice, snow, repeat here in NC, and I crave the greenery of your surroundings.
And that cupcake looks incredible. I’m 100% on board with a daily dessert. Because, what’s the point? Sometimes I prefer mine in a pint over a dish or in foil 🙂
The Vegan 8
That cupcake, omg! I die! Such beautiful scenic pictures too, as always. The weather here in texas is on crack…one day freezing, one day warm, but that is how it is here. You’d think I’d be used to it after being here my whole life, LOL!
I so want to run outside right now.. but the ice hiding underneath the snow will let me wait a little while longer
Karla @ Finding My Fit
We’re going to hit the FORTIES next week.. I may bust out the maxi skirts and tank tops 😉
I would kill to do those hikes with you. And eat those noms.
