  • Hibernation is Over

Posted at 6:56 AM by Brittany, on February 24, 2015

The calendar says February, but the atmosphere says April. Washington has had exceptional weather lately, and despite the fact that this is TOTALLY NOT NORMAL AND WE’RE ALL GOING TO BURN THIS SUMMER, I’m enjoying it.

I’ve hung up my parka and brought out my hiking shoes. The sun makes me itchy for activity, and that consists of anything that gets me moving. Things like…

    Running

My latest weekend “long run” was a success. This is always a good thing.

    img_2834

Burning 800 calories before 10 am meant two desserts that day. In an attempt to prevent over indulging in sweets, I’ve been eating dessert…every day. This daily consumption also motivates me to move more. What’s similar to running?

    Walking

    In nature.

    20130520-090719

Nature walks tide me over long enough until I can do my favorite outdoor activity…

    Hiking

    IMG_0588

Pre hike fuel from my favorite local GF/V bakery. Blueberry scone.

    IMG_0604

I made it out for a solo hike on Sunday, and despite the weekend crowd it was delightful. An extra mile up the mountain resulted in complete solitary. 5 moderately simply miles earned me a kick ass view, and over a pound of food for my belly.

    Not including dessert

Thank you Whole Foods, your vegan cupcakes make my mountain loving heart flutter.

My dear friend Lily painted me a mountain scene for my birthday, and I adore it so very much. Also, can we just take a moment to talk about how dapper my wall looks with my new poster? Mountains, tree’s, and leaves OH MY.

    IMG_0560

As you can see, I clearly have impeccable decorating skills.

It’s time to donate my layer of blubber to a seal in Antarctica, hibernation is OVER.

Q: What are your favorite outdoor activities?

I love hiking too, having a chance to admire those beautiful views. I’ve always wanted to go up Pikes Peak, I have made it half way twice. The first time I wasn’t used to altitude, so I had to climb down. This past summer I wasn’t able because of the weather, there were thunder storms all the time, which is dangerous above tree line, so I made it half way again. But it is in my buck list!

You are sooo lucky! I am on the east coast, and it has snowed twice last week. Snow still covers the ground, and they are saying this has been the coldest february since 1930s. Anyway, I am hoping that by early april warmer temperatures will arrive. I can’t wait for the snow to melt and to get outside!

That cupcake looks so good. We were enjoying lovely weather last week – I went for a nice run on Saturday. But Sunday it turned cold and it has stayed that way. A few little snow flurries. It’s not Boston and I have nothing to complain about. Hiking looks great. I’m excited to do more of that when it gets nice again.

We’re having abnormally gorgeous weather up here in AB too, which has me convinced that the world is about to end. I don’t ever remember any winter where we had so many weeks in a row of above freezing temps. The only thing is a serious lack of sun, but I can deal with that as long as it’s not freezing cold. And the outdoor activity question is a no-brainer — snowboarding 😀

I want to move too. Single digit or negative single digit temperatures means I hibernate instead. I will say I kind of dig that about winter though. It gives you the freedom to curl up on your couch in PJ’s with a glass of wine and a cat and feel luxurious as opposed to lazy. When the temperatures starting increasing here, I will of course feel differently. Until then, I shall enjoy my couch and live vicariously through you.

Luckily G-money is thinner now, so we can use the buddy rider instead of that big fat wagon, haha:) And I bought 3 because each type isn’t good consistently for different terrain! I needed a street, a mountain, a hybrid… #addict. Comments are closed on my posts because the haters were getting too hateful, and it just wasn’t pretty. Cupcakes from Whole Foods absolutely rock my world! I often ask myself how they are vegan and how they make them exactly because I want to make them all the time! So good. Hasn’t the weather been crazy?!?! I mean, great but also so so weird! I think last year at this time we had one very miserable snow storm in Vancouver… which is also weird.

I have been walking to work! Which, isn’t necessarily outdoorsy or in the mountains at all, but its been absolutely gorgeous so I don’t mind the 30min walk!

It’s the kind of music I just love. And perfect for moody winter days :-).

Hi, I was wondering what kind of watch you used to pace yourself. I’m in the market for one. Thanks. 🙂

My watch is the Garmin 110. I’ve had this one for almost 4 years now, and I love it! It’s in the middle as far as price goes, and had just the right bells and whistles I was looking for. If you check out their website you can browse all their watches!

Wow! Great run. Yes, hibernation is over – take that Mother Nature! Your hiking shots in nature look lovely. The last two weeks have just been ice, snow, ice, snow, repeat here in NC, and I crave the greenery of your surroundings.

And that cupcake looks incredible. I’m 100% on board with a daily dessert. Because, what’s the point? Sometimes I prefer mine in a pint over a dish or in foil 🙂

That cupcake, omg! I die! Such beautiful scenic pictures too, as always. The weather here in texas is on crack…one day freezing, one day warm, but that is how it is here. You’d think I’d be used to it after being here my whole life, LOL!

I so want to run outside right now.. but the ice hiding underneath the snow will let me wait a little while longer
