Does it make me un-American if I say I didn’t watch fireworks on the fourth of July? I did eat some Mac and Cheese though, which I think balances out the former sentence. Vegan of course, and Brittany-fied.
Does it make me innovative for chopping up some chocolate salted almonds for my banana/oat cookies because they’re all I had? I totally turned on the oven despite the 80 degree temps. Priorities.
Does it make me a lazy runner for switching from a half marathon to a 5K this weekend? I can’t pretend to be Zues anymore, running 13 miles with zero training just isn’t going to work. So I’ll run 3 miles and then eat donuts as if I ran 13. This sounds much better to me.
Does it make me inappropriate for saying that due to the aforementioned comment about the warmer temps, I’ve been sleeping with
minimal zero clothing? I want to die every night.
Does is make me obsessed if I can’t stop eating/thinking about the flat of raspberries in my kitchen? Local, organic, and only $10!
Does it make me a genius for unintentionally figuring out how to soften dates? I left them in my car and the hot temps made them so perfect. Soft mushy sugary heaven for my crunchy salty rice cake.
Does it make me easy to please if my morning cup of coffee at home right now is already the highlight of my day? I’ve been opening at work every day the last week, and coffee on the go is nothing like coffee at home with nothing but empty, quiet space around you.
Does this make me an acrophile?

love this post — clever and adorable and fun to read. although i do wish you’d seen fireworks because i, for one, love them, but i’ll let it slide. 🙂 also, i think it’s smart to change to a 5K from the intentional half if that’s what you think your body is prepared for this time — there will always be other races, should you desire, and it’ll be way more fun for you to run a distance with which you’re comfortable rather than push yourself and get hurt or be miserable. hope you enjoy it either way! and i look forward to my morning coffee every dayyyyyy tooooo.
All this makes you smart, adorable, resourceful, fit and obviously happy! Time to forgo my pjs too!!!! It’s muy caliente! 🔥🔥
Love the idea of the post and the post in general. 🙂 You’re awesome. I’m glad you chose to run the 5K versus the half marathon. You wouldn’t want to get injured!
Does it make me outdoorsy if I can’t wait for this week to be over with so I can go camping? 🙂
YUP, it sure does. I am insanely jealous of you too.
I am all about the raspberries right now. I literally demolished a tray yesterday. Now I have no more. 😦
Does it make me a bad mom to hide from my baby to drink my morning coffee??? =p
Is that broccolini in your mac? My favorite!
NO, it makes you a SMART mom. I love it! YESS it is broccolini, good eye!
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Does it make me a bum that that I can’t even run a 5K right now? #lazy Those raspberries look delicious. Yum yum yum. Also, that mac & cheese looks delish!! Hmm, does it make me seem like a starving child when I can’t shut up about the food in your post?
This is a clever post. I want those raspberries!
Avocado with mac and cheese? That sounds like a winning combo right there!
And you are so NOT a lazy runner for switching to a 5k! You will do amazing since you’ve probably developed superwoman iron lungs with all that hiking you’ve been doing 😉
di @ life of di.
Avocado w/ mac and cheese sounds SO good 🙂 I’ve been adding avocado to my eggs and salad everyday for the past couple of weeks. Can’t get enough 🙂
Does it make me a bad wife for wanting to spend time on my own while watching repeats of shows on Hulu? Pretty Little Liars, 7th Heaven, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, I Love Lucy = my favorites right now.
Alone time = GOLD!
I didn’t watch fireworks either… granted it was because they were cancelled due to flooding..
I didn’t see fireworks either. You’re smart for not running the half, don’t be cray cray. Yes. I hit the link for what an acrophile is and you are 🙂 I agree that morning coffee AT HOME, is where it’s at. Totally better experience!
Natalie @ The Ravenous Mommy
Does it make me hungry when I stare at those chocolate almonds… YES!
Her Happy Balance
I would die to find raspberries that were both local and organic for $10! That is super cheap. Usually a little carton runs upwards of $3 and they’re gone in like a half hour. Enjoy those babies. Also, i totally dig your hiking shoes. I need to get me a pair. I’ve been wanting to start hiking more and the shoes i have are boots and I think a bit too heavy for the summer.
I KNOW!! Organic berries are SO expensive, this was a legit GOLD MINE!
Morning coffee at home is seriously the best! When I’m not rushed, it’s easily one of the best parts of my day. Yum. I want coffee right now haha.
Rach @ This Italian Family
I’m glad you gave me a definition link for “acrophile” – I definitely needed that, haha! And yes, I think it probably does. You have such a love for the mountains! 🙂
I want that MAC! Cute post!
Does it make me a grandma for going to bed at 8:30 far too often?!
If it does, then I am a grandma with you.
Mac and cheese is american so all is forgiven 😉 Also, every time someone says something about donuts I think of you now. I almost turned down a donut at work this morning and then realized that was pretty much sacrilegious. Dropping down to the 5k was probably a smart decision- hiking>running anyways when you have views like that 🙂
kathy @ vodka and soda
how do you like those merrells? a friend was asking me about them but i’ve never worn them (i have the salomon speedcross). based on my reviews though, they look legit. are they?
I totally dig the Merrells. My first choice was no longer available, so these were a bit of a last minute choice, but they fit everything I was looking for (light weight/day hike/ no leather/ no ankle hugging/almost identical to the original pair I wanted) so I went with them! Took a couple hikes to break them in, but they are great!

It is so hot at night! I don’t have AC so I just try not to move to prevent any activity level!
You’re tellin me!! We don’t have AC either, and my room is on the third floor. The sun hits my room as it sets so it’s like a damn sauna EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT!
Does it make me crazy to love my survival job right now? Because I seriously do. Does is make me unambitious to accept that if I knew I would be happy working my way up the chain at this specialty bagel/coffee shop I would do it forever? Does it make me nuts to type this out loud for the first time ever?! #sorrynotsorry
AH, I LOVE this comment!! NO NO NO it does NOT make you unambitious, in fact if you are thinking about moving up I say DO IT!! Life is TOO SHORT to be unhappy. WHO SAID we have to work corporate jobs to be successful?? I’m going back to school because I want a piece of paper to hang on my wall (and possibly for my future), but in all reality I would be so happy working at Starbucks and climbing mountains for a while!
Does it make me your twinsie if my morning cup of coffee is sometimes my most favorite thing? I forgive the lack of fireworks because you ate mac & cheese with jalapenos.
Confession: I always sleep in the nude, except that one time in the winter we lost power and it was so cold you could see your breath in the house. Other than that, it’s sans clothing for me.
Those raspberries look delicious and am so right there with you on the coffee… I’ve started waking up early enough to just enjoy a cup of coffee without anything else going on and I look forward to it every damn day.
GiGi Eats Celebrities
I didn’t really watch fireworks either – I DID HEAR THEM. Let me just be real with you, this past weekend BLEW and 1/2 of it had to do with the fact that we didn’t really talk!! So I was on my ledge about to jump, LMFAO!!!
You know the real reason why we both didn’t watch fireworks?!?! Because we are waiting for the CRAZY ASS FIRE WORKS that are going to BLOWWWWWWWWW when we UNITE! lol
It’s going to be like 4th of July, mixed with the end of a baseball game, mixed with a presidential election, mixed with whatever else they have fireworks for when we unite. EXPLOSIONS FOR DAYS!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
Does it make me a creepster that I stalk your life?? I mean, check your blog every once in awhile…no big deal. My friends own that raspberry farm and their berries are hands down the BEST raspberries I’ve ever had!!!! I dream about them and eat tons of them every summer! Seeing your picture makes me want to head out there tomorrow! It might have to happen..
AH, YES I work with Jordan at Starbucks and have been dying to try their raspberries for over a year now! BEST berries by far!! We went last week and they said there were just a couple weeks left for harvesting, get them while you can!!
and no, blogging totally encourages stalking, I mean reading. 😉
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
Does it make me a slacker if i’m reading blogs (i.e. yours) when I should be working…probably but at least it was a fun post to read :)!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
I didn’t watch the fireworks either….Australia don’t know what fireworks are.
Choc Chip Uru
Hmmm… does it make me lazy that I prefer microwave baking sometimes despite having a baking blog?
Haha great post 😀
Choc Chip Uru
I love it, balance right!? Sometimes a quick microwaved treat is all you need. Can you believe I don’t own a microwave?? Haven’t had one for over 10 years!!
Lazy Runner = Jumbo Shrimp.
Does not compute. (0:
Does it make me nosy if I am still dying to hear about your plans for school?
Yes. It does. Not sorry. *wink*
SO I don’t know when I’ll actually sit down to blog about the school stuff…and I love ya SO I will just give you the lo down (and anyone else perusing my comments!)
I am taking four prerequisite classes right now (thankfully all the other predental courses I took will transfer BOOYA) to be able to transfer to a natural medicine college in Seattle to study holistic nutrition!! I thought maybe I wanted to pursue a RD path, but I am leaning more towards the holistic nutritionist/culinary arts aspect of the grid. Either way this will open many possible doors. I love this schools program because it’s different than the “mainstream” “textbook” nutrition degrees. It’s hands on, whole foods based, dig down to the science of food kinda shit. AKA totally my speed. I’m jazzed, we shall see how it all plays out!!
This is such a cute post!! I love it! Okay, my turn… does it make me unhealthy that I eat dessert everyday?! Hello moderation! 🙂
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
This is the first year I didn’t see any fireworks either! It didn’t strike me as weird until the next day when I thought about it haha. And we are definitely mac n cheese soul sisters — bulking up the “cheesy” goodness with veggies is the bomb
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy
I loved reading this 🙂 I also want to eat everything in this post, especially the raspberries. They are so expensive here in the UK 😦
We are surprisingly having really warm weather over here too and I am not happy. Hate sleeping in hot weather.
Food, Booze, & Baggage
Those raspberries look fabulous; I can’t believe you got them all for $10!! That mac and cheese looks good!
I watched my fireworks on the TV, which I’m pretty sure makes me 100% American 😉
And now you have me craving mac and cheese, which is good, considering that my husband is going out tonight. Me + cheese + pasta = food coma. I’m calling it already. Guess maybe I’ll toss a broccoli spear or two in there as well 🙂
Does it make me a bad person that I want to steal all your raspberries? I’m going to go with nope 😉 Also, does it make me a food snob that I spend all my money at Whole Foods and I keep telling myself to budget better but I just can’t pass up all the expensive things? I guess I balance it out by almost never eating out!
GAH I hear you on the heat! We’ve been bouncing between 95° to 110° like a roller coaster. It makes baking miserable, even when I wait until 10 pm to do it. Our AC bill is going to be through the roof this summer!
Davida @The Healthy Maven
Does it make me a fucking idiot for attempting mountain biking down a MASSIVE mountain on an intermediate track when I have ZERO experience? Yes, yes it does. At least that’s what my battle wounds are telling me.
Does it make me a bad friend for literally laughing out loud at this comment? OMG though, I hope you’re OK. HAHA, that is so something I would have done too, I would be petrified to ride down a mountain on a bike.
So jealous of your raspberriers! And I hear you on the coffee. My favorite part about going to bed is knowing that I’ll be drinking my morning cup in the morning 🙂
Christina Does It All
Mac & Cheese totally balances you out, girlllll. I love your pictures and YOU! Also, I’ve decided I’m visiting you in 2015 no matter WHAT. Jk unless you say no, I’m not that creepy. 😉
Yes, yes, YES. Seriously, I know I was MIA last time we talked about this, but we WILL get together. You’re definitely on my list of bloggers to meet!
What a beautiful view! I didn’t watch fireworks this fourth of July, either. I did hear them, though!
That Mac and Cheese and those raspberries look so dang good!!!! I’m also lovin’ that last picture of you. AMAZING!!!
The most American thing I did on the fourth of July was listen to ‘Party in the USA’ by Miley Cyrus. I think you did MUCH better. And girl, you were a genius before you figured out how to unintentionally soften dates, but now there’s no argument! xx
balance and flow, and some things you gotta let go. i say, most always, do what feels right. also, it just occurred to me that i should ask you what type of running shoes to buy. my friend emily visited this weekend, and she pointed out that i’ve had the same nike’s since junior year of high school. i’m a little torn-up about letting go of them (we’ve been through soooo much together), but the holes are becoming a bit of a problem. recommendations?
Love that beginning line!!
OH MY GOODNESS my feet ache at the thought of your running shoes, PLEASE go buy yourself a new pair. Shoes should be switched out every 400-600 miles (600 being on the HIGH side.) You can get away with them longer if you’re just walking in them, but if you are doing any kind of running or intense pounding with them you must change them! When I first started running I stayed in the same pair for nearly a year, and I got runners knee! I now switch my shoes every 6 months or so, and even that is waiting too long sometime! Usually my knees let me know when it’s time to change.
I cannot tell you which shoes to get, because everybody is different in this department, but what I can recommend is going to a running store to have someone there help you out. Most running stores can watch you walk or run to determine what kind of pronation you have in your feet. This just means how your feet rotate (either in, out, or not much at all) when you walk/run. From there you can determine which type of shoe you need. I use a neutral shoe and usually go for Asics, but that’s because I have had success in those. I also switch between minimalist shoes for my shorter distance runs, rotation between shoes is great. There are plenty of other brands that make fantastic shoes, so it’s all about what feels right!!
I know going to have someone watch you run can be daunting, so if you’re totally against that I would suggest at least going somewhere that sells shoes specific for running, try on as many as you can and find whichever one feels the best on your feet/legs/knees when you move around in them!! These may cost you a pretty little penny (usually around $100 for a good pair) but they will be worth the investment!
I hope that helps…I tend to go overboard when it comes to talking about running. 🙂
Does it make me lazy that when I ran out of mineral water – hello, lugging those heavy bottles from the store to my apartment… – I gladly got back to my roommate’s offer to take some of hers? And does it make me ridiculous that I have not-so-secret plans of one day moving to California but actually can’t deal with 85°F+ weather?
On a side note I would become acrophile, too, with those views. Beautiful.
I, too, did not watch fireworks. But we I had a red, white, and blue snocone, so I think that makes it ok.
I didn’t watch fireworks too … though I did get a snapchat from a friend when he found out I wasn’t watching. That picture was gorgeous … so idk if that counts as watching fireworks …
I don’t think I’ve ever had a date … but can we still stay friends?
