  • Does It Make Me…

Posted at 8:37 AM by Brittany, on July 9, 2014

Does it make me un-American if I say I didn’t watch fireworks on the fourth of July? I did eat some Mac and Cheese though, which I think balances out the former sentence. Vegan of course, and Brittany-fied.

Tomatoes, jalapenos, broccoli, and avocado added to the mix.

Tomatoes, jalapenos, broccoli, and avocado added to the mix.

Does it make me innovative for chopping up some chocolate salted almonds for my banana/oat cookies because they’re all I had? I totally turned on the oven despite the 80 degree temps. Priorities.

    013

I just really wanted to use my fancy knives.

Does it make me a lazy runner for switching from a half marathon to a 5K this weekend? I can’t pretend to be Zues anymore, running 13 miles with zero training just isn’t going to work. So I’ll run 3 miles and then eat donuts as if I ran 13. This sounds much better to me.

This has nothing to do with running a race, but they portray why I am not in running shape. Hiking shoes = hiking instead of running.

This has nothing to do with running a race, but they portray why I am not in running shape. Hiking shoes = hiking instead of running.

Does it make me inappropriate for saying that due to the aforementioned comment about the warmer temps, I’ve been sleeping with minimal zero clothing? I want to die every night.

    1340852415288_4554643

Does is make me obsessed if I can’t stop eating/thinking about the flat of raspberries in my kitchen? Local, organic, and only $10!

    10487574_292625327576383_7410243701857733465_n

Does it make me a genius for unintentionally figuring out how to soften dates? I left them in my car and the hot temps made them so perfect. Soft mushy sugary heaven for my crunchy salty rice cake.

    008

Does it make me easy to please if my morning cup of coffee at home right now is already the highlight of my day? I’ve been opening at work every day the last week, and coffee on the go is nothing like coffee at home with nothing but empty, quiet space around you.

    20140501-072329

Does this make me an acrophile?

love this post — clever and adorable and fun to read. although i do wish you’d seen fireworks because i, for one, love them, but i’ll let it slide. 🙂 also, i think it’s smart to change to a 5K from the intentional half if that’s what you think your body is prepared for this time — there will always be other races, should you desire, and it’ll be way more fun for you to run a distance with which you’re comfortable rather than push yourself and get hurt or be miserable. hope you enjoy it either way! and i look forward to my morning coffee every dayyyyyy tooooo.

I would die to find raspberries that were both local and organic for $10! That is super cheap. Usually a little carton runs upwards of $3 and they’re gone in like a half hour. Enjoy those babies. Also, i totally dig your hiking shoes. I need to get me a pair. I’ve been wanting to start hiking more and the shoes i have are boots and I think a bit too heavy for the summer.

My first choice was no longer available, so these were a bit of a last minute choice, but they fit everything I was looking for (light weight/day hike/ no leather/ no ankle hugging/almost identical to the original pair I wanted) so I went with them! Took a couple hikes to break them in, but they are great!

I am taking four prerequisite classes right now (thankfully all the other predental courses I took will transfer BOOYA) to be able to transfer to a natural medicine college in Seattle to study holistic nutrition!! I thought maybe I wanted to pursue a RD path, but I am leaning more towards the holistic nutritionist/culinary arts aspect of the grid. Either way this will open many possible doors. I love this schools program because it’s different than the “mainstream” “textbook” nutrition degrees. It’s hands on, whole foods based, dig down to the science of food kinda shit. AKA totally my speed. I’m jazzed, we shall see how it all plays out!!

balance and flow, and some things you gotta let go. i say, most always, do what feels right. also, it just occurred to me that i should ask you what type of running shoes to buy. my friend emily visited this weekend, and she pointed out that i’ve had the same nike’s since junior year of high school. i’m a little torn-up about letting go of them (we’ve been through soooo much together), but the holes are becoming a bit of a problem. recommendations?

        Love that beginning line!!

OH MY GOODNESS my feet ache at the thought of your running shoes, PLEASE go buy yourself a new pair. Shoes should be switched out every 400-600 miles (600 being on the HIGH side.) You can get away with them longer if you’re just walking in them, but if you are doing any kind of running or intense pounding with them you must change them! When I first started running I stayed in the same pair for nearly a year, and I got runners knee! I now switch my shoes every 6 months or so, and even that is waiting too long sometime! Usually my knees let me know when it’s time to change.

I cannot tell you which shoes to get, because everybody is different in this department, but what I can recommend is going to a running store to have someone there help you out. Most running stores can watch you walk or run to determine what kind of pronation you have in your feet. This just means how your feet rotate (either in, out, or not much at all) when you walk/run. From there you can determine which type of shoe you need. I use a neutral shoe and usually go for Asics, but that’s because I have had success in those. I also switch between minimalist shoes for my shorter distance runs, rotation between shoes is great. There are plenty of other brands that make fantastic shoes, so it’s all about what feels right!!

I know going to have someone watch you run can be daunting, so if you’re totally against that I would suggest at least going somewhere that sells shoes specific for running, try on as many as you can and find whichever one feels the best on your feet/legs/knees when you move around in them!! These may cost you a pretty little penny (usually around $100 for a good pair) but they will be worth the investment!

I hope that helps…I tend to go overboard when it comes to talking about running. 🙂

Does it make me lazy that when I ran out of mineral water – hello, lugging those heavy bottles from the store to my apartment… – I gladly got back to my roommate’s offer to take some of hers? And does it make me ridiculous that I have not-so-secret plans of one day moving to California but actually can’t deal with 85°F+ weather?
On a side note I would become acrophile, too, with those views. Beautiful.

I, too, did not watch fireworks. But we I had a red, white, and blue snocone, so I think that makes it ok.

I didn’t watch fireworks too … though I did get a snapchat from a friend when he found out I wasn’t watching. That picture was gorgeous … so idk if that counts as watching fireworks …

I don’t think I’ve ever had a date … but can we still stay friends?
