ob·ses·sion
: someone or something that a person thinks about constantly or frequently
: an activity that someone is very interested in or spends a lot of time doing
It’s safe to say I am officially obsessed with hiking. I think about it all the time, and I partake in it every weekend, usually twice. When I’m bored I look at photos of mountains, or browse REI for new gear.
I hiked not one, not two, but three mountains this weekend. Two of them in one day, I just can’t get enough. Two of these hikes were new to me. The first one was the Rattlesnake Mtn Trail. Amazing.
I continue to be in awe of each vantage point I come to.
It’s amazing to me how at peace I feel when I am in the trees. I could literally sit atop a mountain like this for hours staring at one spot.
Rattlesnake was about 5 mi total, but I needed more. So I ventured over to Little Si, which is a smaller version of the hike I did last week.
This trail was full of the most lush foliage I’ve ever seen.
The view at the top was like a sea of trees.
I have found my summer passion. I think it’s time to invest in some real hiking shoes, and camping gear. As if I needed another reason to love my time with nature, back to back hiking calls for epic refueling.

I feel most alive when I sweat, I think. It’s like your whole body is responding to all of the energy your exerting and everything just… clicks. Also, when I drive with the windows down, music up, and see all of the views on a roadtrip. ❤
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I’m pretty sure those are whole cloves of garlic on that epic pizza.
Your hiking pictures are glorious, although what I love most is how much you come alive when you talk about hiking. I actually hiked for the first time in a long time this weekend (maybe since I was a kid and we went camping) with Amanda Spoons, and I thought about you often and how much you would have loved it, and I would have loved to have you there.
We have the Metroparks in Ohio, so it’s not mountains but it’s really good hiking nonetheless. We’ll put it on the list for when you come because you will be coming to Ohio one day. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Brittany
THOSE ARE WHOLE CLOVES and oh my GOD were they amazing. You would have LOVED them. I seriously died at those hiking photos from Blend, such GORGEOUS mountains. Utah is a gorgeous state.
Metroparks…added to the list. BOOM!
Food, Booze, & Baggage
Beautiful views! I love reading about when someone is so into something, you can really pick up on the energy in your writing…it is awesome! That pizza looks yummy!
emmahume
Those trails look stunning and passion is a beautiful thing 🙂
Mary
Such beautiful scenery! I wish I loved somewhere as beautiful as this. England has some beautiful areas, but nothing like this!
Shawna
ahhhh reading your blog is sooooo sending me into wilderness cravings and i want to go hiking with you like now. gorgeous landscape!
karla @ finding my fit
I want to go hiking out there with you badly. There’s only one good place for hiking around here and I plan on getting out there in August when all the craziness settles down a bit.
The views in colorado and hiking/skiing there made me feel most alive. As well as skydiving 😉
kathy @ vodka and soda
YES GIRL YESSSSSSS! hiking gives me a major boner; we hike every sunday at 630am and we take this shizz seriously so if bitches are late, too bad slut, we are leaving at 630am. yesterday instead of hiking that shizz, we ran it! it was blissful and awesome! i want to come visit you just to hike with yo’ fine ass!
Brittany
I want to go for a sunrise hike WHOA bad.
runyourmuttoff
Ok, I hope this doesn’t sound too crazy but I’m a local and I’m dying to know where that pizza is from because I need to have it! Do tell.
Thanks!
Brittany
NOT CRAZY AT ALL!! OMG there is this place called Razzi’s Pizzeria and they have an amazing selection of vegan/gluten free food!! It’s a bit pricey to build your own (this pie cost me $35..WHOA!) but once in a while…SO WORTH IT!

I feel most alive in the sun. Running, reading or just sitting in the sun. Bliss 🙂
Amy @ A Desert Girl
I am loving that you are loving hiking because the pictures are gorgeous! Also, I want some of that pizza!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The mountains are the love of my life and where my soul really comes alive. I’m about a 3 hour drive from them, but I’m hoping to make it out there regularly this summer so that I can do a lot of hiking. We did some at Blend this weekend (wish you were there!) but it wasn’t nearly enough for me. Gorgeous shots, lady!
Brittany
I was so jealous of the Blend hike photos….seriously mountain envy over here.
Holly @ My Plant-Based Family
I am sooooo not a hiker.
The views are beautiful though! My happy place is the beach. It’s been years since I’ve been.
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
Sadly Illinois is probably the last place on Earth anyone would want to hike…it’s so flat here! I have dreams about hiking in the mountains so I definitely want to go out West on a trip soon and experience that.
LouLou
You need to get to New Zealand and go hiking, girl – you would be in your element!!! I love hiking too – although we call it “tramping” over this side of the world 😉 I’m off camping this weekend – but beach camping so a little different…. can’t wait.
Brittany
I NEED TO GET TO NZ ANYWAY!! Just to BE THERE! Gosh I would just die of happiness.
Lou (@Lou_YogiTree)
Are my comments coming through lovely?
The Fit Foodnista
I’m hoping I get to do a little more hiking this summer but those photographs left me speechless, I’m so jealous! Wow!
When do I feel the most alive? I probably feel the most alive when I go a new city. I love exploring the world around me. I love the energy of cities.
I do love me a good forest or woodland adventure.
Kristy
You’ve just sent me to google to plan a mountain summer trip 🙂
Missy
I feel most alive in nature, for sure. Whereever that may be.
This is a good obsession to have. You will usually have something to do when you travel.
Um… you know… there are mountains in Florida, right? Yeah… we keep them secret.
If you come down here I will show ya!
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
Between Mumbai & London, I couldn’t be farther away from mountains..which basically sucks :(! I feel most alive in a swimming pool or right after a run- hellloooo endorphins!
thefaithfulrunner
I think it’s great that you have such an awesome obsession. I agree with being outside in the outdoors-I always feel so free and alive. Your pizza looks AMAZING! Yum! I think I feel most alive right before a race. With the adrenaline pumping, it’s quite an amazing feeling. Thanks for sharing this!
Matt @ Runner Savvy
I’m obsessed with running!
Brittany
BLOGGGG MORE ABOUT RUNNING!!

You are incredibly lucky to be near such beautiful trails…and also lucky to be able to refuel with that gorgeous beauty of a pizza ;D !
Ashley
I’m a total mountain snob growing up in Colorado but wow do I need to come to the PNW! You have some incredible views there. Hiking is one of the things I miss most about where I’m living now — it was a summer tradition in my family to go hiking at least a few times, especially when we used to camp. Right now, running on the river trail is good enough for my dose of nature!
Jayda
Oh my goodness, I’m so impressed with your hiking skills! Two in one day is beyond impressive. And those views are GORGEOUS! It’s always worth the hike when there’s a good view at the top. And that pizza looks so good!
lucie
Woah brittany! Im not surprised you love hiking in a place like this – so beautiful! That pizza looks delicious too – a well deserved refuel me thinks!
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy
What an absolutely beautiful view from a hike. I wish that there were places near me like this, I would go hiking every day.
Change of Pace
Stunning photos! And you’re right about the trifecta- mountains, water, trees!
Hiking boots were a game changer for me!
I feel the best exercising either by the mountains or the ocean!
sincerelylily
OMGEEEE yes, you need to visit West Virginia. ‘Sea of Trees’ is exactly how I would descirbe the landscape, and also mountains hilly valleys with creeks and natural waterfalls. Just beware of the locals with their moonshine……. no joke.
WHAT IS THIS PIZZA??? Artichokes? That looks simply divine. I love that you have found a passion in hiking – did you read ‘Wild’??? I feel like I have recommend this book so sorry if I’m a repeating bookworm but it is SO you!
Brittany
Did you know my next big goal is to thru-hike the PCT!? I haven’t read the book yet, but it’s on my list. I have however been obsessively reading about the PCT and lusting over gear and planning in my head what I will need to do….I cannot wait….this adventure is coming you just wait!
sincerelylily
Warning; she lost like all her toenails and got bit my snakes……. so you better be careful!!!
Davida @The Healthy Maven
Well if I had access to things kind of views I would be obsessed too! I’m going to yellowstone this summer and I CANNOT wait! Have you been? If so, I trust your recommendations, so send me some! If not, wanna join me and my crazy fam?! Now that sounds enticing…
Hannah
Beautiful! My mother in law lives at the foot of an Arizona mountain that she hikes every single morning. It’s incredible!
Katherine
I think I have an obsession with your blog. Seriously. Your hiking pictures get me all wanderlusty and adventuresome feeling. This may sound SUPER cheesy, but your hiking pictures are so gorgeous; They leave me in awe of nature and how incredible our world really is. Hiking always makes me reevaluate my perspective on life. It makes you feel so satisfied physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Okay, I’m done sounding cheesy. I hope your Tuesday is as brilliant as those views xx
Brittany
Your comment is NOT cheesy, and is BY FAR my favorite on this entire post. You have made my heart swoon, thank you friend!! ❤
You couldn't have said this any better, I just love how things like this relate to life.
The Vegan 8
Oh my goodness, well who can blame you for being obsessed with hiking!?!! Those views are OUT of this world and so stunningly beautiful. I just love all the green and I’m especially digging that amazing pizza!!
apartmentwife
i’m pretty jealous that you have all those gorgeous mountains to choose from – we have maybe 2 or 3 and i feel like i know them by heart. maybe that means i need to plan a trip out there? also, definitely invest in the camping gear – how fun to just pitch a tent and STAY in the mountains? sounds kind of like heaven.
Rach @ This Italian Family
Those views! I love it! So beautiful! And girl, are those CLOVES of garlic on the pizza?! Because they look DELICIOUS!
Brittany
WHOLE.ENTIRE.CLOVES! And they were SOOOO GOOD! OMG.
Amy
SO true about chocolate cake! Definitely one of my biggest obsessions. 😉 Surprisingly enough, I feel extra alive whenever my dad and I visit a new baseball stadium. I feel like a little kid again, overwhelmed with excitement and curiosity and awe and pure joy. It’s really magical to me!
Brittany
I LOVE your tradition with your dad, really it just makes me heart so happy!
Amy
Aww thank you!! 🙂 Someday we’ll have to come back to Seattle so you can join us for a gam!!

I really would have LOVED to make out with you after you ate that pizza. Cause those garlic hunks SCREAMMMMMMMMMMM get in my mouth! 😉 😉 😉
Melissa @ Al Forno Mementos
I am channeling you. Trying to make plans to do outdoorsy things with a good friend of mine. It’s not going to be as scenic as yours but I’ll take what I can. 🙂
jessielovestorun
With views and scenery like those, how could it not become your obsession? I guarantee if we had that here in Kuwait i’d be doing my own hiking on the weekends. However, we don’t. I could go ride camels in the desert, but it’s a bit too hot out for that LOL
