Remember back in the 90’s when pen pals were the “cool thing” to have? I remember having a pen pal that lived in Mexico (I think) and it was so much fun receiving her letters. I fortunately found myself a friend that loves to write letters/cards and sends recipe cutouts she finds in newspapers, or even sends small gifts because she is awesome.
Lily and I have become modern day pen pals and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I already love to receive snail mail, and her letters always brighten my day. When I was contacted to do a review of a personalized card from Card Store, I knew JUST who to make a card for.
This website allows you to 100% personalize your cards, but fear not for those of you that are not the most creative at times (like me.) Most of the cards already have a template set up that you can change the names/wording to make it your own. This card I chose already had the arrows, I just changed the names and locations! I thought it was PERFECT! I also was able to choose what I wanted to write inside.
After reading this out loud it doesn’t sound like proper English, I guess I won’t quit my day job to become a card maker haha. Owell, I still love how it turned out! The card was promptly shipped to me, and I was very happy with the speedy delivery.
I must admit I am notorious for throwing away cards that people give to me, UNLESS they are special. Special to me is anything personalized (like this one), anything with cats, and ALWAYS homemade cards. The everyday hallmark card usually finds it’s way into my trash, sorry..I don’t have room for all of them!
I did receive this card for free in exchange for my review, but this would have cost me no more than if I were to buy a card in person. I don’t think there is any competition here. I would definitely order another card from this website! Click here to browse their selection!
Q: Do you keep all the cards you are given?

I rarely keep cards from others. I’ve kept a lot of cards from my Mommom, though, and cherish them with my heart. I miss having pen pals 😦
kathy @ vodka and soda
for the most part yes; if the person made the card him/herself, i definitely keep them!

Ohh that’s cool. I’m pretty good at keeping cards for like a year and then they usually get lost somewhere. I should probably get better at keeping them because they are nice little sentiments.

So cool! Thanks so much for sharing this!
I like to send cards on birthdays, etc., and I’m always looking for different ones rather than typical store finds.
I am such a hoarder and keep all my cards from my family and close friends. I have no idea why!

Aww, how cute! I LOVE pen pals and “snail mail” in general. It just feels so special to me!
Angela @ Health's Angel
I love getting snail mail! And I do tend to keep birthday cards and the like, unless the cleaning bug hits me and I get rid of everything in my drawers haha. I get a lot of postcards from all different countries because I have world-travelers for friends. It’s pretty awesome mail to get!
PNWRunner
I love getting cards! I keep the special ones as well, like the ones that sing. 😉 I remember having pen pals back in elementary school. I wonder if they still do that. It would be fun to have a pen pal again to send treats/goodies too!
Rebekah @ fitnesscreatures
This is an adorable idea! I love that you have a pen pal. How effing cute! Great card too 🙂 I’ll have to remember this when there are special occasions coming up.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I totally miss snail mail! I know that doing things online is so much quicker and more convenient, but there’s something to be said about the personal touch that comes with snail mail. And I used to keep -all- my cards… until I figured out that I Really hate clutter and started throwing a lot of them away. Now I just keep the special ones.
Luv What You Do
That is adorable! I miss having penpals and still send my friend’s cards all of the time!

The card you made is adorable! 🙂 Also, I am so jealous of you and your pen pal! I need one of those. Snail mail is highly underrated in society today. Looking for a third writer friend…? 😉
Brittany
I LOVE PEN PALS, HECK YES!
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
What a cute card! I love the cards my stepfamily sends. They live in England and for some reason the cards they have are always so much prettier and have the sweetest messages. I don’t save all my cards but I usually save the ones that seem extra special.
Amy
I am a packrat and keep every single card I ever receive! Birthdays, graduations, Christmas, just because… They’ll all tucked away (and neatly organized — I’m crazy, I know!) in a plastic rubbermaid box in my room at my parents’ house. It’s fun to glance back through them and see how friendships evolved over the years!
Rach @ This Italian Family
Such a cute card! I’m the same way with cards. Unless it is personalized in some way (a hand written note, a homemade card, or even something like this), I’ll usually toss it. This is actually why I didn’t start giving birthday cards to people until just a couple of years ago. I figured they would just throw them out anyway, haha! So now I try to personalize them a little more. 🙂 Oh, and I love the Card Store! I used them to make a graduation card for Christopher and it was great! 🙂
Brittany
I used to donate a lot to the ASPCA and HSUS so they would send me SO many cards in the mail for free, and now that is all I use when I give people birthday cards. In fact my friend just had a birthday last week and I got her a Starbucks gift card (go figure) but I tucked it into a free card! I told her though, I was like “you know I am cheap and these get tossed..sooo..here’s a free card.” It DID have a cat on it though!
Brittany
OHHH andddd double reply, it was my comment on YOUR post about Christopher’s card that the customer service rep from Card Store saw and that’s why she contacted me, so thank you in a round about way too! HA!
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
I’ve kept every card my boyfriend ever gave me because there is always a really nice message in it and sometimes I like to go back and re read them 🙂
That card you got made is so pretty! Love it.

Cute! What a great idea. I miss getting letters, though my aunt and I are loyal pen pals – so that’s something, right?
Elizabeth
Nine times out of ten, I keep every card sent to me. They are all so special, and mean SO much to me!!
LOVE that card that you designed! Super cute!
I used to have zillions of penpals, and still have quite a few!
Kammie
Love the card. I love getting cards too, it’s so sweet and so much more personable. I miss having pen pals and actually writing things by hand.
P
I love getting and receiving letters, cards, and packages! It seems like a lost art that not a lot of people “practice” anymore. I’m glad to say I’m a proud snail mailer 😉
Britta
Adorbs! Ugh, I love real mail. Something so unbelievably nostalgic about it 🙂 The card is absolutely adorable!!!!!! LOVE IT.
katalysthealth
What an awesome idea!! Yes I typically do keep all my cards, at least for a period of time. I have kept all the ones from my daddy and the ones from my siblings, those ones go into a keep sake box 🙂
Hannah
I love snail mail! I’m always buying cards and searching for reasons to send them. I end up sending a lot of Thank You cards which is very therapeutic. It’s nice to throw some gratitude into the world. I keep cards I receive for about a month unless they are completely sentimental (as in from my husband!)
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
That’s so pretty ! I love that card! I really want to start sending snail mail again…it’s a cool way to stay down-to-earth in a world that is basically run virtually.
di @ life of di.
I can definitely relate to keeping the ‘special’ cards. Any card that is given to me for a significant event (wedding, special grad cards, engagement cards, twenty-first birthday, tonsils out) I have a special box for! I don’t go through them very often, but it’s always fun and a walk down memory lane when I do.
Melissa @ Al Forno Mementos
I love snail mail! I send out cards just because sometimes. not many people write back but whateves. haha that’s what buying online stuff is for. 😛 cute cute card!! 🙂 I save every single card someone gives me!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I love getting cards via snail mail. It seems so much more personal, and I save them all in a great big storage box, along with a bunch of other memorabilia. This site is sweet; thanks for sharing.

I might have to check these cards out for sure! What a great idea. I had a pen pal YEARS ago. I kinda miss it!

Nice card! I like the idea
No – I do not keep all my cards. I keep cards for about a year, then they are recycled. I do have all of my cards from my wedding and my baby shower though!

Such a cute idea!

I had a penpal. I was cool! We wrote every month for about two years and then one day I just didn’t write back. Sometimes I do wonder what she does now… 😦
Love that card. That card makes having a penpal in the 2010s cool again! 🙂
Brandi
I had a pen pal too…many years ago! I miss the days where everybody wrote each other instead of everything being on Facebook now. I mean, I like Facebook, it has advantages…but there really is something great about receiving letters in the mail…it makes you feel so special. That’s why I still do it. I still send cards in the mail to people and gifts. I truly, truly get excited to send people stuff 🙂
