So I have a new job. I have been working at Starbucks for six weeks now, and have been drinking enough coffee to fuel a humpback whale flying to the moon. I can’t complain though, getting free drinks all day is just one of the many perks.
After I received my barista certification a few weeks ago, I decided to buy myself a mug that I have been lusting over for months. It’s not often I come across a mug that I drool over while my foot twitches at the same time.
SWOOOOOON. I first saw this mug back in March when I stopped into Starbucks on my way to VegFest. I couldn’t justify buying it then, so I didn’t. WELL I needed a new mug and figured that my barista certification was justification enough to buy myself a gift!. A mug like this makes my morning coffee taste so much better.
I’m slightly obsessed. Now all I need is my own espresso machine to make lattes at home. My favorite part about this mug is that I saved almost $4 thanks to my partner discount. We all know I go coo coo for discounts. I also no longer need to buy coffee for home thanks to my weekly markout where I get a pound of free coffee. Free loot, free loot, FREE LOOT!
I’m trying to be proactive with this job, and I ask to make drinks anytime it’s slow. Normally newbies stay on the register for a while before making drinks, but I want to learn as soon as possible so that I am on par with the rest of the crew. Sometimes when it starts getting busy and I have to make a drink I am unfamiliar with I feel something like this..
I’m catching on though. Thankfully all the people I work with are super nice and help me out anytime I flop like a suffocated fish splashing coffee and milk all over the place. I’ve held my own anytime it’s been busy, and I actually enjoy the morning rush of the junkies coming in to get their crack coffee fix. Coffee drinkers can be ruthless.
As time goes on and things start to feel comfortable I enjoy the job so much more. I am having fun, and making new friends. I’ve received nothing but positive feedback which helps give me the confidence I need as the new kid.
Starbucks is an amazing company and gives back to the community, along with taking care of the countries they get their beans from. I’ve learned so much about what happens behind the scenes and it makes me love the products that much more! They also take great care of their employees. All in all things are going well, and I’ve started to settle in!

Coffee beans are my go to beans, other beans make me gassy and then my family doesn’t like to sit at the dinner table with me. Coffee turns my colon into an LA freeway when it’s clear and fast paced. We must be related…Love ya dad!

Okay, that mug is seriously amazing right?! I purchased the New York model of the same mug (complete with yellow taxi cab) when I was in NYC for the first time a few months ago because I had the exact same reaction!!

My favorite mug is from Starbucks, too! It’s the white 16 ounce ceramic mug. They have them right now, I think! I am so glad you’re feeling good about your new job and you work with people who are willing to help you. A good, supportive environment is hard to come by so I’m glad you found one!

That is such a cute mug. I don’t drink coffee, but I love hot tea and hot chocolate. My favorite mug was from Anthropolgie, but one of my roommates broke it, which made me very sad. I’m glad you are working in such a fun, supportive environment that seems like such a blast!

Yay yay yay a new mug!!! You definitely deserve something pretty and fun after all of that training. Good for you!! My friend worked at Starbucks for a while, and she said that the energy and her coworkers were great, but the soccer moms with caffeine withdrawals… Not so much. 😉 And you are incredible for asking to make drinks so soon! My favorite mug has to be the one I got at Boston this year. It’s nice a big and has a great handle. Although I do love my “H” mug, too. You have to learn how to make all those fun foam creations! And then take pictures so we can marvel at your masterpieces! I feel like I would get so fat working there because I would eat all the yummy sweets when my brain goes caffeine cray cray 😉 Glad you are loving SBucks so far!!!

I want to learn how to draw in foam so bad haha. I should just watch some YouTube tutorials and when it’s slow I can practice! The treats are tempting, but it’s times like these that I am glad I went vegan. No overdoing it because the treats allllll have dairy!! The soy lattes are another story though, no flavors, but the soy does have a bit of sugar!! OWELL!

I was just at Starbucks this morning and thought of you! While I’m not a “regular”, I am one of those people with a signature drink. Venti iced coffee with soy and 1 pump hazelnut. I love.

love the mug! They have a pittsburgh one (not as cool as starbucks is concerned) but it’s still pretty awesome! Trav’s aunt works at the sbux distribution center for the eastern coast, and if anything is a little bit damaged and cant be sold, it’s fair game to employees. We’ve scored some awesome stuff!

I LOVE that mug! I have a Starbucks mug too that I won at a drawing during prom, and I took it to college with me and used it every. day. I guess Starbucks mugs are just that awesome 😉

Sounds like it’s going fabulously well, and so glad you’ve got a good group looking after you and motivating you! Everyone was nice and helpful at my store too. Unfortunately, school and work were too much, so I’m just doing the school thing now and, of course, blogging.
