May 1st came and so did the spring weather. Spring season is the perfect time to be outside and move! I am not sorry to be breaking up with my treadmill for a while, and I have been enjoying many outdoor runs, and walks. Yesterday I ran to the farmers market to see about getting some fixings for dinner.
The market just opened for the season a couple of weeks ago and the pickings are pretty slim right now. Plenty of apples though!
Some of the Fuji apples were so big I mistook them for honeycrisps.
With empty bags I proceeded to walk to the store to find what I needed for dinner. If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen a sneak peak at what was for dinner. This meal was so delicious and I cannot wait to make it again. Post/recipe to come!
The rest of the weekend will be spent outdoors, baking, blogger meet ups, running, walking, BIKING (hopefully), and eating A LOT of food. Watermelons are back, time to get real with my spoon. No bowl necessary for watermelons. Happy weekend!
Q: Is it farmers market season where you live?

Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
Ahhhh I love apples!! Honey crisps are the best. Pink lady’s are a close second 🙂 Every weekend is filled with a lot of food for me… haha heck, everyday is!
All I eat are jumbo apples. They’re the best, actually though. I like pink ladys the most- honey crisp aren’t sweet enough for me! I want to go to a farmers market soon!
At SFSU, we have a farmer’s market on campus every Thursday (I guess except for the breaks). It’s always farmer’s market season in NorCal, haha.
YUM! I love Fuji apples (or any apples, really).
Honeycrisps are my favorite…followed by Pink Ladies.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I love how you beat Manfriend by all of 5 seconds 😛 And holy wow apples on roids is right. But no Ambrosias 😦 I’m seriously missing those for making my applesauce. Not farmer’s market season around here yet, but hopefully soon! And try not to be jealous, but this girl’s been eating watermelon all winter long 😉
I love that you noticed that! HAHA! I mentioned that to him this morning, and in reality his watch auto stops and takes longer than mine. I manually stop mine so our time was the same, his just didn’t shut off until 5 seconds after we stopped. I do like to pretend I beat him though! 😉
Amy @ A Desert Girl
I loooooooove Farmer’s Market season!!! It’ll start up in a couple of weeks here in my area. I can’t wait.
I love eating watermelon with a spoon! I thought I was the only one. 🙂
foods for the soul
We have Farmer’s Markets on Saturday mornings all year round! But from April til October, they also set up on Wednesday nights too. It’s really fun to grab dinner, sit in the park, and listen to the live music!
And HOLY COW I could make an entire apple pie with just ONE of those apples!! (P.S. Fujis are my favorite…)
Fujis are my favorite too!! Hands down BEST apples.
Ja @Ja on the RUN
Same here. My husband and I run to the grocery store. NOT DRIVE. 🙂 and those fuji apples are huge!
Have an awesome weekend!
I love huge fruits. Bigger is better 😉
kathy @ vodka and soda
same with us; with may came gorgeous weather! the past wee has been sunny and so warm and we love it! no farmer’s market yet (starts june 1) and can’t wait for that too. i’m glad you’re having such nice weather over there.
ps – your garmin — there’s a built in gps right? ie. you don’t have to buy any extra accessory for the GPS?
Yessss to the Garmin question. The GPS is built in! I don’t run without the watch…I’ve named him Gary and we are best friends. As you can see from the picture my boyfriend and I have two different styles. I chose the Garmin 110 because it can be used as an everyday watch as well. As long as you don’t mind the manliness of the watch, which I don’t! They have lotsss of varieties though!
Those apples are the size of your face!!! I love apples but they would probably take two sittings to consume!
Her Happy Balance
I keep checking for the farmer’s market that they have by my work on Friday afternoons to open…but nothing yet. I saw a good sign today though! One single and lonely vender was selling plants where the farmer’s market usually is. It must be coming soon! I also have the orientation to my CSA this weekend..stoked!
Love big apples and sounds like you are going to have a great weekend!!
Ha, my boyfriend and I do the same thing — run everywhere. We’re always the shameless, weird spandexy people at happy hour.
The Savvy Sister
Yes! Farmers market season has begun! I can finally get fresh organic beets and kale!
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
omg, y’all already have watermelons?!?!?!?!?! #jelly
Chris and I ran downtown (4-5 miles) when we registered for our marriage license 😛
Did you change the blog background? I like it!
I did change the background, more summery now. Yay! Thankssss. What a great way to register!
I absolutely loooooove the farmers market!! Ours runs April to December too which is great. I have been crushing watermelons like it is my job the past few weeks.
And, I am so jealous you date a runner. Mine has blown out his ACL twice so he runs we me like once every 3 months!! I always wanted a runner for my other half, he’s lucky I really like him or that could have been a total deal breaker!
It definitely is farmer’s market season where I live! Actually, I believe it’ll be up and running tomorrow :D!
Apples & watermelons = HEAVEN for me. Misty and me can polish off a huge watermelon between the two of us in a day, no probs….. SO good. We are just seeing the end of watermelons and the start of apple season – pink lady’s are my favourites, mmmmmm.
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Do you then run back with your shopping bags? 🙂 I once saw a guy running with his dry cleaning it was dedicated but did look quite funny.
We walked back this time haha. We also (by we I mean he) bring a bag with us (on his back) to carry our stuff back home in. I did once run to the store to get a bag of flour. You better believe I ran home with it tucked under my arm like a football.
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
haha I love that, it is too funny 🙂
I feel so cool (cooler than I should!) when I run places! I wish I could do it all the time! We haven’t been to a farmers market yet, need to get on that STAT!
Life After Swimming
Holy cow apples!!! Our market is opening tomorrow, but we will be en route to Pittsburgh…can’t wait until next week! 🙂
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I love honeycrisp apples and farmers markets! It’s not really farmers market season here yet. I am so excited for when it opens and the fresh produce is ready. I love shopping at the farmers market and deciding my meals based on what I find at the market.
Kristina at damntenpounds
The farmers markets here are mostly open year round but definitely not that close! You’re so lucky to be able to just run on over there. And if the watch size and lack of arm hair matches the person, you win! Yes. It’s a race 😛
Oh those apples look so delicious!! I love me a Honey Crisp apple, but they are over $3/lb here and it’s killing me!
Luv What You Do
I am not so patiently waiting for the farmer’s markets around here to open. I can’t wait!!!
Bunny Eats Design
We are quite lucky here as our sub-tropical climate means year round farmers markets. I adore walking to farmers markets, though I can’t say I have ever run. Do you run home with your bounty too?
We will walk back if we have a good haul of stuff! He brings a bag on his back to carry our stuff home! I did once run home with a 5lb bag of flour. I carried it like I was in the NFL.
You two are way too cute! Just curious how you get back w/ all the bags? Taxi, or run? Ha Ha!
We actually have a farmers market here that’s open all yr round. It really is fabulous!
We walked back! He carries a bag with us on his back to carry our haul back home. I once ran home with a 5lb bag of flour though, makes me feel like a football player.
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
You and Aaron are so cute! Talk about an efficient use of time- get in your cardio running to the market and your strength training workout lugging those bags back home. WIth all those apples I hope your weekend also involves whipping up a batch of applesauce :)!
Life's a Bowl
Hahaha I cannot stop laughing at your bug eyed apple picture 😛 Now that you mention it, I bet our market opens this weekend – hopefully I get a chance to swing by!
Ya know, I’m not sure if it’s farmer’s market season or not. I suppose it is, I just haven’t been in a while. Yours looks like a pretty awesome market though, and it’s great you can run there!
Those are some mighty big apples you have there.
Our farmers markets have started up, and I am loving them because each week they get more and more produce. Yesterday, I went crazy and bought $9 worth of beets. Beet that (ha!).
By the way, I ordered the knee brace you blogged about awhile back and went for my first run in it last night. No pain, so it held up great. Max says Hi or really Meow, and I started following you on Instagram, so I’ll be sending lots of kitty pictures your way. 🙂
I love that you are loving that brace!! I wear mine still even when I feel no pain. I am too paranoid of pain coming back! Save me some of that beet juice!
Those apples are HAH-UGE! Sometimes I question the size of fruits/veggies… I love that you guys run places together and I cannot wait for the farmer’s market to be back in Vic!! ahh, the little joys of life 🙂
I love that you and the bearded dragon (I still giggle at that!) ran to the Farmer’s Market. So cool!!
Holy smokes those apples. Id have to have like 6T of nut butter with one of those babies!!
Mary @ Fit and Fed
I know what you mean about slim pickings at the farmer’s market! Ours just opened and if I get down there this morning I can probably get, oh, a bunch of mint and some pea shoots. Spring!
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
Farmer’s markets are the way to go! All the ones in our area though aren’t really running distance… maybe long run distance, but that would be an interesting trek home! I love apple season 🙂
Rach @ This Italian Family
Those are some HUGE apples, haha! I love that you guys ran there together. That’s great!
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
holy magpies! those are some huge huge apples!! you guys have THE best dates ever. so jealous!
Lindsay @ The Functional Foodie
Everyone makes fun of me because I like apples on steroids. A girl in my class once brought a “normal” sized apple to show me what one looks like. I’m jealous of those apple prices. I haven’t seen wonderful apples like that at a market since I’ve been in Israel. So sad.
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate
It is definitely farmers market season in Dallas!
I JUST figured out where our town’s Farmers Market is but next Saturday we’ll be out of town and at the end of the month we are moving. *sigh* Hopefully wherever we live next has a good one.
I freaking love watermelon. With salt. <—-mmmm.
And also red onions, black olives, fresh basil and feta or gorgonzola. Awesome salad.
new to your blog!
Love that you date a runner. Best date ever = running!!
di @ life of di.
Wow! Those are huge apples! I would’ve thought HoneyCrisp too 🙂 I love Farmer’s Markets! Ours just opened back up again!!
At first, I thought this said ‘who needs a cat’ and I was like ‘oh my she is giving up her cat!!!!!’ but then I realized I was a letter off.
Dem apples be bigggggg.
I bet that got you excited for 2.5 seconds imagining me without my beloved furry felines. HAHA.
I am jealous of your weather! It snowed this week! Ugg, I am ready for spring!!
