September is half way over, which means the farmers markets are going to come to an end very soon. In order to start my last “hoorah’s” of the summer, I made a trip to the farmers market to get some inspirations for dinner. I didn’t know what I wanted, but as always I found more than I needed. I needed something to go with polenta. I have never made polenta before, so this was new for me.
After walking a few laps around the market, I settled on a handful of hot peppers (like..cry your eyes out hot!!!!), a blue bell pepper, 2 beets, and a peach the size of my face.
I ended up making a pico de gallo style mix with the peppers, some tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and salt/pepper.
I pan fried the polenta into small disks, and topped them with the pepper mix.
I have to say these turned out really good. I was surprised. I paired them with zucchini lentil boats.
This was my first time making zucchini boats too, the zucch was grilled and then filled with lentils. Along with some marinara served on the side for extra flavor! Since no meal is complete without something sweet, that giant peach was then grilled with brown sugar and cinnamon!
I liked the addition of the manly arm in the photo so I left it. Grilling and farmers markets! I also feel the need to mention that TJ’s has a new seaweed salad that is awesome.
It tasted just like the ocean.
On the running front, I feel a little lost now that my half marathon is over. I have been experiencing the post run blues. After working up to this since January, having it be over is sad. I need to find another half to run so that I can continue with my running schedule. I find myself having motivation only for 3mile runs. During a 3miler I had last week I discovered it’s best to run with your eyes shut.
That would be a small fly. I had to run with it for about 2 miles. It wouldn’t come out. Gross.
Q: Who’s ready for fall!?!?! I AM!

I WANT THAT PEACH! 😀 It reminds me of that super weird, trippy movie james and the giant peach 😉 And girl, you now I’m ready for fall. Too bad it won’t be visiting Texas anytime soon haha
Oh and that bug is a loser for committing suicide in your eyeball.

Ew sneaky fly!
Your farmers markets scores are so pretty – and what you prepared with them looks like an incredible meal. mmmmm peachy goodness. So do farmers markets not run through Winter in the States? That is silly!

Ah, I LOVE farmer’s market stuff—I always buy way too much just because it’s pretty 🙂
I’m ready for fall, but mostly because I’m in Cali, and it doesn’t really exist here!

Okay, so the fly grossed me out a bit, but that peach…that peach…I’m drooling over it! Send me one, would ya? 😉

those peppers look great, I know peaches are sadly going out of season so I need to soak them up while they are still good!

That peach looks SO yummy! I want it with a side of vanilla ice cream…please and thank you! As much as I love summer produce, I equally (if not more) love the huge variety of squash during fall!

Yikes!! A fly?! In your EYE?! Oh my gracious, that’s terrible! Way to finish up your run, though! I’d be knocking on some stranger’s door asking to use a mirror, haha!

Zucchini boats? Wowza creative!! Love em! Love all the food actually. I already miss Farmers Markets.. Haven’t gone to one in a while actually. Luckily have never had a bug in my eye during my run, but man, ouch! Nasty little things!

That pico de gallo looks yummy! That’s what I liked about the post. Not the gnat in your eye. Ewww….

Isn’t it crazy how big the peaches are at farmers markets?! I was shocked last I went haha I’vebeen wanting to try polenta, is it easy to cook? lol
blissfulbritt
Yes! Super easy. I bought the pre made kind that’s already in a roll and then sliced it into the pucks and just cooked it in a pan on the stove!

Oy, I’ve had the bug-in-the-eye experience and it is most unpleasant. Aren’t they looking where they’re going??

Aw I hate getting flies stuck in my eyes! It used to happen all the time because I had to cycle past the river to get to college (it was beautiful but horrific for flies in the summer!)
Your farmers market finds look great 🙂 And I’ve never cooked polenta but yours looks lovely!
caloricandcrazy
Wow, that fly thing is so random!
I had to run through a mob of gnats before…not fun :P!
Tessa @ Amazing Asset
Mmm peaches, so dang juicy and ripe right now! That one looks particularly delish too 🙂 Gahh bug in your eye while running is not alright. I had a bug fly into my mouth once… I reacted unnecessarily, I’ll just leave it at that 😉
teabagginit
ohmygod, bugs in my eyes are one of my worst fears! I’m always paranoid that I’m going to catch one in my peepers!
Sarah
Ah farmers markets are the best! So fresh 🙂 The pico de gallo “style mix” looks mighty good, that stuff is so so tasty!

Those peppers look DIVINE! And what is polenta? Whatever it is it looks delicious. The pico de gallo – YUM! Gotta try it. I am still running and doing boot camps. Not sure HOW you were able to stand running with a fly in your eye. Eeeeewwwww! 🙂
