  • St.Paddy’s Day 10K

Posted at 3:31 PM by Brittany, on March 19, 2012

Saturday morning I pulled my money makers out of bed to stand in the freezing rain for 30 minutes, and to run 6.2 miles. I was cold, I was crabby, and I was nervous. I was angry it was raining. I usually love the rain, but I was tired and did not want to be soaked like a can of soggy beans. I arrived early to get my race packet.

It was official, I was running a 10K. I had never run more than 5 miles at once..so this is where the nerves came in. I knew one more mile was attainable, but having never done the distance before I had some worry. I had hoped for a leprechaun wombat to run with me if I needed an extra boost. No such luck.

Fuel in the form of sugary candy, should I need it.

Turns out I only ended up eating one. That one the arrow is pointing to, I ate that whole thing..I even ate the wrapper like a savage wild animal. My hands were frozen to the point I couldn’t feel my fingers, without working fingers I couldn’t unwrap the sugary treat. I panicked, fearing my energy would dwindle and without thinking, like a homeless monkey..I ate the wrapped candy. I have yet to see the wrapper come out the other end..this must mean it was digested by my ferocious stomach acid.

Long story short, the course had some wicked hills..and the first 3 miles were painfully cold. After mile 3 everything started to feel better, including my body. I finished the run with a 10:15 pace (WAYY faster than I anticipated) and an overall time of 1hour and 3minutes. Thank you spaghetti feast, you helped my buns of steel power up those hills.

Post run I wolfed down a delectable sandwich.

Overall I felt a sense of accomplishment for my new PDR. It’s moments like this that make the painful days worth it. My March race is complete, and I can eat Reese’s Eggs guilt free for a few more days. I’ll keep you concerned cats posted on that Starburst wrapper..

Q: Embarrassing running stories? Eating that wrapper is my top as of right now..One day I’ll be a real runner like those marathoners that shat themselves.

Oh my golly gosh… you are a LEGEND! Well done, what an achievement girly 🙂 Ah, sweet starbursts…. I reckon that wrapper is long since dissolved inside you though, HA. It’s amazing what we can do when we put our minds (and bodies) to it, no?

Ew blue cheese actually reminds me of feet (toe jam) I don’t think I would know the difference if you had stored it in your socks 🙂

That’s just really funny. About the wrapper.
Congrats on the race by the way—awesome! I think you prepped and celebrated quite well—spag factory and a yummy looking sandwich, wins all around!

I once thought I’d train for a marathon (no, twice…and both times I quit at 14 miles), and I had a run route for my long runs on Sat near home…but not close enough to home for bathroom breaks. It’s not really embarrassing, but it was definitely an emergency for me to get inside the Bagel Bin shop to the restroom before I became one of those crazy “marathoners.” Had I been on the other side of my run route….I would have either had a real problem or would have had to find a ditch with some privacy…

hahahaha you’re hilarious but CONGRATS! on your first 10k I knew you could rock it out :).. I’ve eaten plenty of starburst with the wrappers on in my time I feel like the sugar is powerful enough to explode through the wrapper itself.

YOU ATE THE WRAPPER!?!? You are waaaay too much girl! lol You need to get some energy gel next time and just use your choppers to rip off the top and suck the slimey goodness down.

Pasta pre-race= best meal everrrr. Looks like you and manfriend are being very fit, active, cute people and also eating quite well. I adore the nasty green shirt and running attire. Good for you for not drinking green things and being totally crazy on St. Patty’s!!

My most embarassing run story is whenever the… #2 got-to-go-potty-real-bad dilemma happens. Because that sets in and there is no turning back. You just got to run behind a fern or small tree and let it out. And avoid small woodland creatures.

      I got no shame. Sigh.

      First of all, congrats!
Second, I want to go to that pasta place RIGHT NOW.
Third, I regularly trip over NOTHING and do that awkward flying through the air trip thing and don’t actually fall…ohhhh great.

Great job on the run! Sorry it was so cold but it sounds like you hammered through it! As for the candy issue, looks like I need to teach u how to unwrap one with your tongue 😉 or you can just keep eating the wrappers!!

THAT ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAPPEN! Rain always occurs on the days when people have to run marathons… compete in monster tri-athalons…. all that crap! Tis why I stick to my elliptical trainer in the GREAT INDOORS! LMFAO. You’re a trooper though!

HAHA! You’re hilarious. The candy wrapper, oh geez. Hey, don’t be embarrassed. And clearly your stomach acid is quite ferocious! Maybe you should continue to test its ferocity? No wait, I’m kidding, don’t!
Congrats on your PDR!! I was so proud when I did my first 10K. I have only run that far since one time haha. It was more of a “yay I did it, now I’m done” thing for me since I”m not the biggest fan of running.
Your manfriend is a cutie! And I love chunky blue cheese dressing. I”d rather just eat bleu cheese and skip the dressing part. Mmm.

ahaha you’re just like my friend who also wore an olive-gray ish colour and claimed that it is green!

i used to work at the spag and before my 10k runs i would CARBO-LOAD. thank goodness for unlmited bread 😀

and best part about running: it gives you a reason to eat candy!

Just an FYI on Starburst from a long time vegetarian – they are not vegetarian and contain gelatin.
