The weather in Washington is starting to look like summer. The days are hot, and the lack of AC in most places means for sticky, sweaty conditions.
My fellow coffee slangin’ brotha from anotha and I escaped to the mountains on Wednesday after work, and by the time we got there it was 80 and humid.
Thank God for the canopy cover of trees because it was H O T. The once snow capped mountains off yonder were as blue as a Southern crowned pigeon.
As always, the view at the top made the steep grade worth ever step. Summer hikes are some of my favorite, simply because they are the most rewarding. Great things in life don’t usually come easy, and hiking is a perfect example of this.
The hike here at Mount Walker is another one of my favorite solo climbs. If you squint real hard, you may be able to see Mt.Rainier in all her glory in the upper/middle left corner of the photo below. Any hike that highlights her beauty is a favorite of mine.
Once upon a midnight dreary I thought I wanted to move away from Washington. How sad that would have been, I cannot imagine myself without these mountains.
The journey down the mountain is almost always filled with thoughts of the day, thoughts of the views, and thoughts of food. Actually, the entire hike is usually mixed with thoughts of food let’s be real.
I must have been extra hungry coming down this mountain, because my first thought upon seeing the above photo was food related. They look like some kind of red asparagus species, don’t you think? I tried to look it up, but couldn’t quite find it.
The wild asparagus like plant sparked a fire in my stomach that could not be put out until fed. This inspired the most random food haul.
Which turned into this.
Note to self: Buying a pea shoot plant was the best idea you’ve had all week.
Q: What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

I love your photos! It’s hot humid and sweaty here in CT. I get up at 4:30 am and go for my two+ mile walk. The sun’s not quite up yet, but the weather is a little cooler then. I get to see deer and turkeys. Isn’t nature great?
Brittany
I love morning walks when the world is still asleep. 4:30 is dedication!
transforminglifenow
It’s the coolest time in summer! Also, then I’ve done my workout and don’t have to think about it again. 🙂
Rebecca@RunningFoodBaby
That sandwich looks delish!
The weather here is rainy and humid! But at least it is warm!

Beautiful pictures!! You’re making me miss the NW!

It’s just a small one, it’s here with me.

Oh those mountains are stunning! I need to do some hiking this summer! Maybe when I go up to my cottage later this summer it will be nice enough to explore the great outdoors. The last two weeks have been all rainy. So much for summer sunshine.
kathy @ real talk
our weather is stupid. it’s been rainy and cold all week. looks like canada forgot what June weather is supposed to be like #rage.
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Gorgeous hike!! Goodness, your pics make me want to visit the PNW.
The weather here has been unseasonably cool, rainy, and humid. It has started to hit 90 though and warm up a bit. The other day it was 53% humidity and I felt like I was in a sauna. #desertproblems

I need to visit or move to Washington. Those photos kill me!
Lacey
Wow what a gorgeous place to live- you are so lucky!
And I feel you on the heat. I just moved home for summer from college, and switched from 75 degrees with 85-90% humidity, to 105 degrees and super dry. If you ever want to know what its like living inside a hair dryer, move to Sacramento.
Brittany
What a fantastic analogy, haha! My dad lives in Arizona, and I visit a couple times a year. Needless to say the winter months are my preferred times to visit.
Lindsay @ A Runnaroundd Life
OMG what is your life. I want to visit all of those majestic places, like, yesterday.
pickyrunner
You seriously make me want to visit. Like I’m ready to hop on a plane. Forget about work! I want to go hikingggggg!
Run Brink Run
Great pics, aside from the rabbit food.
Brittany
HA, rabbit food is my life. With a side of cookies and cake. 🙂

That sandwich looks ah-mazing! I love sprouts and slaws to fill up my sandwiches. The crunch is awesome! I just had a roasted veggie sandwich and now I’m hungry for another ><! It's funny how when you're hungry everything around you resembles a food. The flouds look like fluffy icing ALL.THE.TIME. though! It's a killer.
It's humid as hell here today. I'm outside right meow and feel like I'm breathing in smoke!
50statecanuck
I think where I live is absolutely gorgeous, but we are missing mountains like yours!! So majestic!!
MeganNicole
thats how it is down in Oregon too!
di @ life of di.
The weather has been hot and sunny for the past couple of days. I’ve been staying inside during the 1-3PM hours when temperatures are hottest.
We took Charlotte swimming yesterday for the first time so we could cool off! 🙂
Kelsey
We are finally having more consistent streaks of beautiful warm & sunny weather; we had a week there where it was so dreary and raining. Which I don’t mind…but the sun is so wonderful! Vitamin D is much appreciated now. Have a wonderful weekend!
Heather P. at Fancy Alter Ego
I’m enjoying reading this, and reminiscing about basking in the sun yesterday, while it’s now cloudy and 58 degrees (we had to turn the heat on in our bedroom last night!). Washington is such a crapshoot for weather!
Brittany
I turned the heat on this morning!! My fingers and toes were COLD!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I love microgreens (or a pea shoot plant – ? -). They are full of so much nutritional goodness and they taste pretty fantastic too.
I wouldn’t leave those mountains either. They are glorious and so is your sweat curl.
allisonfiorini
Good lord, your pictures are amazing! What a gorgeous hike! Also, love that you posted The Weepies 🙂 I love that song!! Weather is heating up here – we got to 94 and humid today!
Jason
Breezy and warm all day here in HHI. Coolest thunderstorm ever just rolled in over the island.
herbieontherun
Holy crap! That is BEAUTIFUL!
Amy
Ohhhh my gosh, I would DIE for temperatures in the 80°s!! We’ve been 100°+ for waaaay too long now. I seriously wish I could live up near you during the summer, then down in Arizona for the winter. I don’t handle extremes very well, especially the cold. 😉 And then I could finally start hiking again! Ahh, that’d be the life. You always make hiking look so spectacular!!
Ellie
I tried the smoked tomato field roast deli slices and was very satisfied! I like it when the seitan is savory and salty and less sweet.
The weather here has been nice, so I’ve had a pretty easy time moving. This morning it was beautiful during my run, and then a downpour broke out for about 5 minutes…and then it was great again. Then this evening at like seven, TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR!
Gotta love Spring and Summer!
Brittany
I just love Field Roast products, I can’t go too cray with them cause they will make me bloat, but they are good! They are a local company too, so I am alllll about supporting local. 😉
Pamplemousse
I love hiking and those mountains and views are simply gorgeous! I must make it to Washington. And yum!! The ginger cookie coconut bliss is blissfully indeed!!! Weather is grey and foggy over in SF. Garden ain’t too happy.
Brittany
I found the blisscream to be even better with some almond butter on top. Oh swoon.
pangie223
Seriously — you always have the best photos. The weather here has been kind of flaky lately. Today was HOT HOT HOT and way too humid. I was meeeeellting.
Puffetic
It was a balmy 62.6 degrees in Melbourne today. I was thinking of going for a swim in the Yarra, but couldn’t decide whether the hypothermia and bacterial infection would outweigh the benefits of exercise.
Brittany
I think you made the right decision. 😉
Natalie @ The Ravenous Mommy
It’s HOT here! Yesterday my car said “103F”. Poor Wyatt hates getting in the car when it’s that bad.
Aja
I think it’s funny how Seattle can get really hot and yet AC is so scarce still.
harveylisam
I drove through inner Washington a few days ago on my way to BC, and man, it was hot! Beautiful pictures 🙂

Love the PNW!! You should come to Portland and hike Larch Mtn on a clear day. You can see some amazing views up there! Your hike sounds amazing!! That bagel sandwich looks awesome as well! 😉
Josh dV
Beautiful looking hike with beautiful pictures as always.
Hot and dry here in ABQ. 80’s with no real humidity to speak of. I grew up in Minnesota so I know humidity as you describe it. I am much happier here.
Why is it after reading your posts I am always hungry? OK rigorous honesty here…I am ALWAYS hungry.
darwinontherocks
Summer is coming as well ! Last Friday, it was around 30°C in the shade, but today, a week later, it’s around 24°C, much better 🙂
Lucie Elizabeth (@CollectingLight)
Send some of that sun over the England? We had a delightful summer last year but this year it doesnt seem to be happening…I’ll pay for shipping 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Stahhhhhhp killing me with all the gorgeous mountain shots! I haven’t been able to make it out this summer yet, and I’m having serious withdrawals. It’s been hot here too, though. Too hot. I’m useless in the heat, so I’m already wishing for fall 😛
Jessica
These photos are gorgeous. I was actually thinking about you while I was driving to PA this weekend – you may be the only person I know who loves being outside as much as me! And now I want a pea shoot plant.
Rach @ This Italian Family
Oh wow! It’s all so gorgeous!! I love these shots! Also, that photo of you and your friend is adorbs! And the heat… oh man, the heat. We had perfect weather all through the first week of June. Highs in the 80s and low humidity. I’ve never experienced a summer like that in my life. So there was absolutely no easing into the 100 degree, 95% humidity weather that hit us out of no where. I feel like I’ve been dying, haha! But I try not to complain because I LOVE summer! I’d much rather it be hot than cold. 🙂
P
Wow I have not heard of pea shoots before! They look incredible and so cute in that sandwich though ☺️

And now I want a bagel ASAP….. Beautiful hiking photos as usual lady!

Beautiful pictures!! I wish the sun and warm weather would show up here in SD…we had a very dreary May. June has been so, so.
Jayda
Those mountains are breathtaking!! And that sandwich looks delicious. We had the most perfect weather last week…it got up to 30 (86f), which was just magic. Now we’re back down to 20 (66f), and I’m super bummed about it. The weather here is such a tease!
The Vegan 8
These photos are simply breathtaking. I literally had my mouth hanging open. You are so incredibly blessed to live there, wow! I would die to have those views. I want to eventually live in Austin so I can have some beautiful views from my backyard…one day. It’s hot as a mofo here too…too dang hot!
Jess @hellotofit
YUM: quinoa chips!! It’s hot and humid over here on the East Coast…I can’t decide if I love it or not. Kind of sort of?
jennifer prod
so i gotta tell you: caribou coffee has an ad campaign that always reminds me of you. have you seen it? it’s about the founders hiking in the woods and deciding to start a responsible coffee company. hiking and coffee and social responsibility? the whole thing just screams… brit 🙂 a little funny for your starbucks lovin’ self, but there it is 🙂
Brittany
I love ALL good coffee, not just Starbucks! I love that, I must try some of their coffee now!
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
The weather is gross here, too. How’s the sprouted bagel? I often find the sprouted breads tend to fall apart pretty easy. A local, all organic company catered a work meeting yesterday and they have sprouted bread that was awesome! Loving the hiking pics 🙂
Brittany
I love those bagels….when I want to get wild with wheat (which I did too much of last night and have MAD wheat belly this morning) I go with sprouted. They are a bit crumbly when cutting, but otherwise they are actually VERY fibrous due to the wheat gluten and hold together almost too much.
Nicole Marie Story
first I thought, “oh she looks so pretty!” then the food pictures came. and in response to these (first the quinoa chips then the sandwich!), I verbally exclaimed, “ohhhhhhhhh.” nom nom nom! xo
Hannah
I remember you talking about possibly going to ASU, and I wondered how you would do there. They have gorgeous mountains, but they’re very different. Also, if 80 is hot to you……. :p.
Brittany
Oh the ASU programs are all online!! I do like AZ, and my dad lives there, but I definitely don’t see myself living there. 😝
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy
I am so jealous of that stunning view. And that bagel. it’s been such a long time since I had a good bagel.
Oh, and send some sunny weather this way please. it’s cold in the UK 😦
Kayse
Ginger Cookie Caramel Coconut Bliss is the BEST! I can’t buy it cus I eat it too damn fast. So many gorgeous photos, girl! Too good.
It was so humid here today that I put on my yoga pants and they were damp. Mmmmmm Minnesota summer.
veganvampirebites
As you know, it’s hot! I’m skating in the Seattle Pride parade on Sunday, and a little freaked out about the impending heat. We just ordered an AC on amazon because everywhere else seems to already be sold out! We’re excited to start doing some summer hikes too. Think we’re going to hit Rattlesnake Ridge?
Brittany
Omg good luck with the outdoor skating! I hope there is a breeze!
