Of all the house sitting gig’s I’ve had, the one I’m doing right now is hands down the best of the best. The bee’s knees. Crème de la crème. Typically my pet-ventures are in my neck of the woods, but this one is in Seattle.
And I’ve been here for thirteen days, with three more to go.

My excited face.
First and foremost being in Seattle puts me literally 15 minutes from work. Opposed to two hours. Granted I still don’t mind my commute, but hot damn is it nice not having one right now. I’m in for a rude awakening when I go home.
No commute means more time for running.

My current running spot.

Will run for V/GF cupcakes
Secondly, being in Seattle puts me only an hour away from some of my favorite hikes. Typically I travel two hours to get here, which I also don’t mind, (clearly my perception of time is much different than most) but again SO NICE to chop off an hour.
Thirdly, I am so close to ALL THE VEGAN FOOD. Again, I happily travel to Seattle in my spare time JUST TO EAT sometimes, but here I am SMACK in the middle of it all. So many options, so little time. My mind is like a tornado, and my mouth is like a suck hole.

Cafe Flora – Italian burger GF/V

How cute is this restaurant setup?

Portage Bay Cafe – V/GF pancakes with UNLIMITED BERRY BAR

Sugar Plum – V S’mores Brownie

Chaco Canyon Cafe – Quinoa, kelp noodles, tempeh bacon with ginger sesame sauce.
Disclaimer: I make sure to also eat a vegetable based meal of greens to balance out the above goodness.
My housemate is a cat, so my job is not only easy, but enjoyable. I love cats. We just get each other. She is black just like my little, and she roams the land in the daytime like a gypsy warrior. She eats well and runs around to burn it off.
Basically we’re twins. Although she has better self control than I do, I offered her some bread I made and she denied.
Good, more for me.

Grain free chocolate zucchini bread. Yusss.
I’m never bored over here, there is always something to do. So many cafes, so many restaurants, so many people. If anyone wants to move to Seattle and split the $48496438967 rent with me that’d be great.
Or I’ll just house sit forever. Or I’ll sleep in abandoned churches and lighthouses.
That’s all for now. I run. I work. I hike. I eat. I study. I explore. & Repeat.
Q: City or suburb dwelling?

Sounds pretty great!! 🙂 Great views and food- what could be better?
Brittany
Precisely! 🤗
ASipoftheCity
I’ve lived in the suburbs my whole life and while it has its advantages, my hope is to live in a city someday.
I felt so understood while reading this, because I also think absolutely nothing of driving 40 minutes into Buffalo a few times a week, or hopping in the car to visit Rochester (an hour and a half away) for the day when I need a change of scenery. For other people those things are an ‘event,’ but the more you do it, (like a two-hour commute) the easier it becomes and the shorter it seems!
Brittany
YES! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the adventure, what else are we going to do with our time, stay in town everyday?! NO THANKS!
ASipoftheCity
Exactly! 🙂
Angela
I have things I love about both city living and suburb living, everything being so close by is definitely one of the good points of the city living!!!
Fab pics, now I’m hungry any of that bread left? Xo
Brittany
Bread is long gone, I’m a bread monster. 😝
Angie
How your pictures makes me a little nostalgic of home! Not a fan of suburbs. It’s city, countryside-like places, or islands for me. 🙂 Oh, and if you like Thaii food, try out Araya’s. It’s all vegan and the best Thai place in Seattle. If you want good pizza, go to Via Trubunali. They make the best pizza in town on Capitol Hill — not far from Plum Bistro. You can put together your own vegan pizza there. Enjoy the rest of your time in Seattle!
Brittany
Oh man, Araya’s is the place I took my dad over three years ago that convinced him vegan food was amazing! That place is one of my favorites. I’ll have to check out the pizza, thank you!
Angie
Yes, Araya’s is one of my favs as well. They opened one up in LA as well. I saw the owners there while we dined at the LA one.

Love your posts, BB! Especially your sign off today, “run work hike repeat!”
You should come try Issaquah, best of both worlds, small city and amazing recreation!
Brittany
I love Issaquah! I travel through often to get to North Bend, and usually stop along the way for food.:) Is that where you live?! I wasn’t aware you were so close.
katalysthealth
That bread looks to DIE for!! I would love to be a full time puppy sitter/house watcher. Only issue is that my dogs would probably pee all over me when I got home to “re-claim” their territory.
Brittany
That bread was the bomb. Hahaha

Ah, so jealous you’re house sitting in Seattle, and the fact that the gig includes a BLACK CAT! The best kind of cat!
Love the setup of that restaurant, also… a s’mores brownie sounds so good right now, and it’s 7:00 a.m. hahaha.
Brittany
Chocolate is always good, even at 7 am.

TRUTH!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
As I read this post, I was thinking it might be time to look into places to live in Seattle. 🙂
Cats make the best buddies; hands down.
Brittany
I’ll be your live in nanny! 😂
A Runnaroundd Life
Omg those eats, tho. ❤️ I want to visit Seattle so bad! Hopefully soon!
Brittany
You let me know, we’ll have a foodie tour! 😝
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
GIrrllllll!! 2 hours?! But how?! I have to force myself to drive the 20 mins it takes to get to the other side of the city when I need something ver there. Nevermind 2 hours. I do love Seattle though. So gorgeous over there.
Brittany
Hahaha I know, I’m cray.
Amy
That’s SO awesome!! So happy for you Brittany!! 🙂 I’m a California suburb girl… Where the suburbs almost feel like mini-cities and are only 30-45 minutes away from the big cities anyway. Best of both worlds! Although… I’m pretty sure I’d be okay moving to the beach and giving up both. 😉 (PS My dad left on his backpacking trip this morning, which made me think of you! ❤️)
Brittany
Ahh I love your dads trips! Yay!

Those mountain pictures!! And your babysitting charge is pretty cute too! Nice that you got this gig, even if for a little while – Kat
Brittany
She’s a goon and I love her.
integratedexpat
Somehow I’d missed you were house/pet-sitting. Sounds like a fun way to stay in some great places. I was just reading about somebody yesterday who does just that, but she’s been house-sitting farms with sheep and horses. Cat-sitting sounds a bit less strenuous and Seattle’s a great gig. Where’s the recipe for that bread? It looks delish.
Brittany
This was the first post I wrote about this gig so you didn’t miss it! 😝 I usually do dogs, but have decided to retire from that for now ha!
Ellie
I am drooling over the tempeh bacon. It’s SO GOOD! I’ll move to Seattle and split rent. I have to move in June anyway and want a big change on scenery. Can you wait till then?
Brittany
Yes. I can wait. Do it. Hahaha
Anthony
I thought my commute was bad…..I’d love to split rent with you in Seattle, but…you know, border and immigration issues.
Good luck though.
As always, your blogs make me smile…be in awe of the scenery….and make me hungry.
Brittany
Thank you friend! Always happy to help the hunger 🤗
kathy @ more coffee, less talky
that running spot – so breathtaking! all i see when i run are houses and cars and roads. lame.
Brittany
I’m obsessed. Going to miss that spot.
LWynalek
I want in on all of that vegan goodness you’re eating there!
Brittany
I can’t stoopppp!
Heather
What a great set up! A win win for you, the cat and his owners! All.The.Food. Seriously though. I want to try everything you pictured! I don’t know how you commute 2 hours.
Brittany
Haha I’m a wild woman what can I say.
Melanie
Oh wow, Seattle is beautiful! I’ve only been there once, when I was about 10 years old….I think it’s time I visit again. So lucky for you to be house sitting a cat there! Awesome. Oh, and all of that food looks heavenly!!!! YUM!!!
Brittany
It’s really such a fun city.
Josh dV
WoW. Those are some beautiful hiking and running pictures. I wish I could take pics like that, but I generally run before the sun comes up. I will continue to enjoy yours!
And I chose neither suburb nor city living. As soon as our girls move out Lisa and I are heading for the Mountains. I’ll come to town a couple times a month (maybe) for groceries and/or events.
Good luck getting back to the commute!
Brittany
I love it, the mountains shall be my location in time as well. Great choice!
Josh dV
Great minds…
P
This post makes me want to go out to Seattle again ahhh! Funny thing is, my sister really wants to move out there after she graduates this year…I’m torn between that and trying to convince her to move to So Cal!!
Brittany
Ohhh man, if she moves to WA you can just come visit ALLLLL THE TIME!
omobtomtom
omg! talk about living the life. Def need to visit Seattle and WA in general soon 🙂
Brittany
It’s such a magical state. I adore it. 🙂
Luv What You Do
Gorgeous views and amazing looking food. I have only been to Seattle once and need to go back! I had an amazing house sitting gig in grad school. I was living at home at the time so this got me out of the house, I had a 3 BR house, an adorable white puppy, and a housekeeper : ) It was a dream!
We just moved to hte city and I am hooked. I told my husband he will have to drag me back to teh burbs!
dave379
City, or small walkable town for me! I still visit the old suburb though to see my parents and some friends. The chocolate zucchini bread looks so good. I just made banana bread the other day and took a similar picture.
Brittany
Oh man, that bread was dangerously good. 🤗
stylingtheplate
Omg! I love seattle! We are going back there in June! Definitely going to do some more exploring and eating when we go back
Brittany
Such a wonderful city. 🙂
