Well my friends, the deed has been done. I am on day four of recovery after having oral surgery last week and things are looking up.
The surgeon described the cyst in my jaw as looking like a bubble, hence the title of this post. For those of you that are just tuning in I had a mandibular cyst that was noticed back in March and has continued to grow. Naturally I got all kinds of curious about these things and decided to watch a YouTube video at 1am after my surgery.
If you can handle guts and gore, and are as intrigued as I am LOOK AT THIS.
OH. MY. GOSH.

Soft food diet – oatmeal and ice cream at midnight.
I’ll keep my words short, I had a video to share that chronicled my day, but I no longer have the footage. Basically it’s showing how whiny I get without food (I went 28 hours without as much as a crumb) and how swollen my face looked. Oh and my mom recorded me after the surgery. That was fun.
In order to fully go to Infinity and Beyond while under anesthesia I wore the appropriate attire. I’m now thinking about turning this into a fashion blog.

#ootd
My only complaint aside from feeling like I was dying because I couldn’t eat (dramatic much?) was the pain…IN MY HAND. I had minimal pain in my mouth and didn’t even fill my prescription for pain meds, but my hand hurt like hell. I had an IV stabbed delicately placed into my vein.
It’s still bruised.
OK I’m done whining, the procedure went well, everyone did great, and I’m just nursing the remaining swelling. Life is good.
Or maybe I’m hoarding chestnuts for the winter. One will never know.
Q: What’s the longest you’ve gone without food? Clearly I’m still dwelling on this…

the longest I have gone without food is the longest I have slept, so maybe 10 hours. Can you have beer?
Brittany
I can, but I confess I don’t like beer. I actually had coffee the very next day, I just let it cool a bit. What can I say, I’m a rebel.
Cheryl "Cheffie Cooks" Wiser
Hey Britt, let me say I have had some bruising after IV sedation also! It does hurt! Glad you are on the road to recovery. Happy Holidays to you! Cheryl x
Brittany
Thanks Cheryl! Things are going much better. I’ve even had multiple cups of coffee. 😉
Cheryl "Cheffie Cooks" Wiser
LOL Thank goodness for Coffee! Happy Holidays!
shellybartz
Too funny…glad you have this little adventure behind you! Enjoy that first cup of Joe when you get it! 🙂
Brittany
I had coffee the very next day. I just let it cool off a bit. 🙂
Jade
I totally watched the whole video. OMG so interesting! The longest I went without food was 27 hours when I got my wisdom teeth out. I also thought I was going to die, and got a massive bruise from my IV and didn’t need my pain meds for my mouth.
Brittany
FOOOOOOD!
kathy at more coffee, less talky
ick!! at least you can have a soft diet of icecream. when i got my wisdom teeth out (all 4 at once), i didn’t eat for nearly 3 days because i was so high from the pain meds. actually, that part was kind of awesome LOL
heal fast!!
Brittany
Ahhhahaha I can’t handle the meds, they make me nauseous. I didn’t take them when I got my wisdom teeth out either. I’ve already had multiple cups of coffee, and semi solid foods. I’m a rebel. Or just stupid and really love food.
peanutbutterandellie
Oh goodness now I’m worried about getting my wisdom teeth out. Hahaha. I am excited for the ice cream, though!
Btw Brittany: Your meal of oatmeal and ice cream looks delicious and like something I could eat every day for the rest of my life and not get sick of. Eating as much (vegan) ice cream as I want is the one thing I’m actually looking forward to about getting my wisdom teeth yanked out. Bleh. Glad you are recovering. I’m with Kathy- heal fast!!
Brittany
Do not fear! It must be done. Ohh man, that oat/ice cream was amazing. I couldn’t decide what I wanted to eat and then it came to me like a dream.
peanutbutterandellie
I think you know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow 😉

Looks like a rough IV start. Hands are tough to do. To speak up for my fellow nurses IV starts are WAY harder than blood draws. Taking blood is easy but an IV needs to be intact enough to instill meds. I’m a fair stick but I’ve had days where I am just stabbing patients. No fun for either of us.
The longest I’ve gone without food? I did 7 days of the Master Cleanse (where you drink nothing but homemade lemonade, tea and saltwater for a week). Surprising easy after a couple days.
Happy recovery and remember the bruises will fade.
Brittany
To be fair he did a great job pricking me, I just have sensitive veins haha. Only took one shot and I was in lala land shortly after. I can’t imagine being the one having to prick.
You are a brave soul for doing that cleanse!
Patrick
Enjoyed this post Brittany!! Laughed along with you….glad it’s behind you now.
Brittany
Thanks Patrick, me too! 🙂

Day made. That is all.
Brittany
BAM. SUCCESS IS MINE!

“You can’t have coffee”
“WHATT!?!?”
HAHAHAHA- hysterical- glad ur ok! 🙂
Brittany
Bahaha, I was so distraught. I had coffee that next day. I let it cool of course, but no one tells me no coffee!
Angela
You poor thing, I don’t know what’s worse.. The surgery or the fasting!!!
You made me laugh but I hope you are on the mend now 🙂
Brittany
Those were my exact thoughts, I didn’t know if it was normal to be more concerned about not eating than I was going without food. HA.
Rach @ This Italian Family
Oh my gracious, you crack me up! You hearing that you couldn’t have coffee made me laugh! And then the, “But wait… how am I supposed to eat soup?” question made me laugh too! I definitely think more videos are in order for the blog. 😉
So glad to hear that you are recovering! Rest up!
Brittany
Thank you friend, this was fun!
whostardis
smorgasbord…you rocked that word! lol you are seriously entertaining i think you need to do more videos 🙂 your hard look horrible! IV’s are the devil Im convinced
Brittany
Ahhaha so glad you noticed that pronunciation.
whostardis
You and I we love our strange words, the pesants just don’t get it 😉
Brittany
Hahaha, I legit just laughed out loud. You so fancy.
Ellie
I have no idea how long I’ve gone without food! I am dreading when I have to get a colonoscopy 😦 That spells death to me
Brittany
I hope I don’t need one of those for a very, very long time.

Sending you healing vibes until you are back to 100% lady! Oral surgery sucks. A couple years back I had my wisdom teeth pulled, and one of them was growing into my jaw so they had to cut into my jawbone… it was so sore afterwards. It obviously sucked, but on the bright side, there were lots of ice cream & smoothie meals 🙂 Happy Holidays!!
Brittany
AHH wisdom tooth in the jaw – how awful! The ice cream on oats have been a nice treat though. And all the smoothies and pudding.
Debra Chan
Feel better and Happy Holidays.

I once “fasted” on the infamous Master Cleanse (lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne) for 30 days. Granted it’s beyond what is recommended, but I wanted to see just how far I could take it. A Navy friend of mine used to fast for two weeks every year (water only) so I thought I’d shoot for that. I felt so great at two weeks that I just kept going. I only stopped at 30-days because it was time for my daughter’s graduation and I wanted some yummy cake.
Brittany
30 days!?! I am amazed. Cake always calls me back to the dark side…
charissarunning
Yikes!! It sounds awful to be without food for so long. I don’t think I’ve ever had to go a whole 24 hours without food. Hope your tummy is happier now!!
Brittany
Oh, much happier. HA. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
“I think I could be funnier if I had a prompt to go with” <– lololol omg. Stoned Britt is #winning. I have no idea what the longest I've gone without food was, but definitely not 30 hours. Sending you lots of healing vibes! ❤
Brittany
Haha, the things we say when drugged.
B
I think you’ve found hell and it’s 27 hours without food! Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery!
Brittany
I couldn’t have put it better myself. Thank you!
Deena
I HATE IV’s, and the hand is the worst! I went a few days without eating once… my mind was in such a fog I just couldn’t. I never understood the concept of just not feeling like eating until then. I also went a week without food once, but I did drink some juices during that time. Here’s hoping you are feeling back to your normal self, with a normal diet, soon!
Brittany
Oh my goodness, that must have been some mental fog! I did have moments where I went all day without food because my emotions were out of whack, but I always ended up eating something even if it was small.
fionajarrett
So funny, great post 😀 Not funny that you had to have someone cut into your face though & hope recovery is going well. Also not funny is no coffee! The food thing I might be able to deal with but no coffee… you have my sympathies. Loved your mini movie, got some nice documentary skills right there 😉
Brittany
Thanks friend! I had coffee the next day…after I let it cool of course. 😉
Amy
Oh my gosh, I totally feel your pain about the bruise on your hand!! I had to have a minor procedure done in June. I have “baby” veins that are nearly impossible to find (and the nurses always have to use the baby-sized needle because they’re so small), and the Renaud’s complicates things… So they had to put the needle for anesthesia in the back of my hand too. That bruise lasted a week — no fun! But hey, oatmeal and ice cream sounds like my kind of midnight snack! 😉 Hope you’re doing better and get to enjoy all the best holiday foods for Christmas! ❤️
Brittany
Ohh HHEYYY TWIN moment again. I have TERRIBLE veins and can no longer give blood because they can never find them. At the Dr. they often use a butterfly to find my vein, so the hand was new to me. I’m doing much better, and eating nearly normal! 🙂
Amy
YAY!!! Food = ❤️. For reals. 😉 I’ve never given blood before… I can’t handle the sight of it, and I’d feel so badly for the person trying to find my veins. It’s bad enough when they have to draw blood for medical testing — I call it “going to the vampires!”
Heather
Thank you for the video – that was awesome! Not sure which would be worse, no food or no coffee. Iced coffee? Blasphemy! (Completely agree)
Brittany
Glad you agree, coffee is meant to be HOTTTTT. Even iced coffee starts hot…unless it’s cold brew, but that’s another story.
katalysthealth
Ok so I won’t lie, I’m not about the oral surgery bit at ALL. It gives me the willies. I am however, glad you are doing better! Merry Christmas to you my friend ❤
Brittany
Oh girl I’m with you, the idea of a mass growing in my jaw also gave me willies. Ahh. Merry Christmas to you too! ❤
Melanie @ HappyBeingHealthy
I’m sure glad your surgery is OVER and that everything went okay. Hopefully you’ll feel back to normal soon! I would die if I couldn’t eat for 28 hours!?!??!??!? I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
Brittany
I don’t ever want to experience that hunger again. I’m so whiny.
wanderwolf
Geez. That all looks very rough. And I totally know what you mean about the IV in the hand versus pain from the actual surgery!
But I also know what you mean about food. I get it sometimes after a few hours after a long run, but the longest I’ve ever been without food (also surgery related) was 30 hours. It’s rough! Though honestly, I got hit more by the lack of my normal caffeine than lack of food. The headache needed more pain medicine than the surgery wounds. Seriously.
Hope you’re recovering quickly, and a happy season for you!
Brittany
Oh man, that coffee struggle is so real! 🙂
Kayse
Best part of that video? “Happyyy… whatever. Byyye!”
I hope you’re healing up well!!! xo
Brittany
I was an awkward child. It clearly transferred into my adult life too.
Diane @ Life of Di.
I had my tonsils out when I was 19 and didn’t eat much for a good week. The only thing that wasn’t excruciating to choke down was Chipotle’s rice. Weird, I know. I didn’t eat much ice cream because it can actually make the healing process worse? New information to me!
I’m glad you’re healing up well. Hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy some Christmas goodies tomorrow 🙂
Brittany
I think the idea of taking tonsils out is the scariest of them all. Chipotle has damn good rice though, I must discover their secrets. I suppose the sugar in ice cream can delay healing, that would be my guess. I only had ice cream that first day because it actually left me feeling sick. Probably because sugar on an empty tank is never a good idea. Well, it’s always a good idea in the beginning, but leaves me with regret. HA.

Hehe your jaw is still beautiful, though.
Annnnd WHY have I not tried oatmeal and ice cream yet?????
Brittany
Girrrrll you’re a smooth talker. Get that ice cream oat combo in your life. Like a semi healthy dessert…except not.

Britt – You don’t look too swollen in those pics – I bet you iced a lot. Hope you are well on the road to recovery and eating ice cream along the way. – Kat
Brittany
I confess…I only iced maybe 3 times. It got a bit more swollen after these photos, but things are much better! Thank you!

Auch!!! Poor poor you! Sending loads of LOVE!!!

Thanks suga! On the mend, waiting patiently to be 100% again.

You’re hilarious. Glad things went smoothly and thank you for posting that video 🙂
