  • Mount Walker – Summer Sun

Posted at 6:44 AM by Brittany, on June 12, 2015

The weather in Washington is starting to look like summer. The days are hot, and the lack of AC in most places means for sticky, sweaty conditions.

Check that sweat curl of hair. Earned it.

Check that sweat curl of hair by my face. Earned it.

My fellow coffee slangin’ brotha from anotha and I escaped to the mountains on Wednesday after work, and by the time we got there it was 80 and humid.

Thank God for the canopy cover of trees because it was H O T. The once snow capped mountains off yonder were as blue as a Southern crowned pigeon.

    IMG_1983

As always, the view at the top made the steep grade worth ever step. Summer hikes are some of my favorite, simply because they are the most rewarding. Great things in life don’t usually come easy, and hiking is a perfect example of this.

The hike here at Mount Walker is another one of my favorite solo climbs. If you squint real hard, you may be able to see Mt.Rainier in all her glory in the upper/middle left corner of the photo below. Any hike that highlights her beauty is a favorite of mine.

    IMG_1985

    IMG_1969

Once upon a midnight dreary I thought I wanted to move away from Washington. How sad that would have been, I cannot imagine myself without these mountains.

    IMG_1967

    IMG_1984

The journey down the mountain is almost always filled with thoughts of the day, thoughts of the views, and thoughts of food. Actually, the entire hike is usually mixed with thoughts of food let’s be real.

    IMG_1996

I must have been extra hungry coming down this mountain, because my first thought upon seeing the above photo was food related. They look like some kind of red asparagus species, don’t you think? I tried to look it up, but couldn’t quite find it.

The wild asparagus like plant sparked a fire in my stomach that could not be put out until fed. This inspired the most random food haul.

    IMG_1982

    Which turned into this.

    IMG_2009

    IMG_2007

    IMG_2008

And the world spins madly on.

Note to self: Buying a pea shoot plant was the best idea you’ve had all week.

    IMG_1968

Q: What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

I love your photos! It’s hot humid and sweaty here in CT. I get up at 4:30 am and go for my two+ mile walk. The sun’s not quite up yet, but the weather is a little cooler then. I get to see deer and turkeys. Isn’t nature great?

The weather here has been unseasonably cool, rainy, and humid. It has started to hit 90 though and warm up a bit. The other day it was 53% humidity and I felt like I was in a sauna. #desertproblems

And I feel you on the heat. I just moved home for summer from college, and switched from 75 degrees with 85-90% humidity, to 105 degrees and super dry. If you ever want to know what its like living inside a hair dryer, move to Sacramento.

It's funny how when you're hungry everything around you resembles a food. The flouds look like fluffy icing ALL.THE.TIME. though! It's a killer.

I seriously wish I could live up near you during the summer, then down in Arizona for the winter. I tried the smoked tomato field roast deli slices and was very satisfied! I like it when the seitan is savory and salty and less sweet.
The weather here has been nice, so I’ve had a pretty easy time moving. This morning it was beautiful during my run, and then a downpour broke out for about 5 minutes…and then it was great again. Then this evening at like seven, TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR!

Highs in the 80s and low humidity. I’ve never experienced a summer like that in my life. So there was absolutely no easing into the 100 degree, 95% humidity weather that hit us out of no where. I feel like I’ve been dying, haha! But I try not to complain because I LOVE summer! I’d much rather it be hot than cold. 🙂

I love those bagels….when I want to get wild with wheat (which I did too much of last night and have MAD wheat belly this morning) I go with sprouted. They are a bit crumbly when cutting, but otherwise they are actually VERY fibrous due to the wheat gluten and hold together almost too much.
