I’m not one to spend my money on random items. I have been known to hoard my pennies which has allowed me to have a comfortable pillow to sit on should any emergencies arise. I’ve never felt a strong pull towards impulse purchases, and will usually only buy something if I really, REALLY love it. Or if it’s food…
I spend all the pennies on food.
With that said, I try to balance things out every so often by buying something for myself…just because. I usually end up buying a Starbucks mug, but only when they go on sale. I cannot justify spending more than $5 on a mug, so I wait.
This Christmas season Starbucks has over 100 different mug designs, and while I see many that I adore, none spoke to me enough to purchase. Except this one.
This 3 oz demi cup is the perfect addition to my collection. Once I saw the trees I knew I had to have it. I also decided to buy this years advent calendar. I wanted it regardless, but really jumped on the opportunity when one wound up having a broken package.
The merchandise itself is 100% in tact, but with a broken outer shell it was “un-sell-able.” I got it for 80% off, meaning I spent a whopping $6 on it. OH and it comes with a $5 gift card, so I spent $1. I didn’t want this for the chocolate treats that I won’t be eating, but FOR THE MAGNETIC REUSABLE CHALKBOARD!!!
Ready or not it’s Christmas at Starbucks. This is my favorite time of year and all the Grinch’s that come in complaining about the decor make me want to pull them a decaf shot faster than Mary Poppins can pull a tree out of her purse.
While I love the holidays, I don’t love the temperatures that come with it.
Try not to be envious of my selfie photo quality. This is why I don’t take selfies.
Despite all my Christmas talk, I’m so excited for Thanksgiving and I’ve got my stretchy pants ironed, pressed, and ready to be worn for approx. 15 days post feast. I’m going to need all the help I can get with that elastic waistband. Real talk in 3..2..1..
Q: Who’s ready for the holidays!?!?!

i’m ready for the holidays, but NOT the weather. buffalo got 120cm of snow so far and expected more. toronto is cold as fuck and will be snowing again WTF
That is the cutest Advent Calender I have seen in a while. I’ll have to pop in Starbucks and hope they have it in the UK!
Thank you for always making me smile and laugh! Love your blog! Stay warm!
Thank YOU for reading! 🙂
Love that Advent calendar! I’m getting more and more excited for the holidays 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was -this- close to picking up that Advent calendar when I was in TO, but I was afraid it would get busted on the way home so I held off and now I can’t find one here in Edmonton! I’m not even sure I could eat the chocolates (allergies) but omg the packaging is too cute for words. Must.go.calendar.hunting 😯
Amy @ A Desert Girl
I’m excited that the holidays are around the corner! I hope you get more customers who are excited than you get Grinch’s.
MY FINGERS DO THAT TOO!!!!! No matter how many pairs of gloves i wear or keeping my hands in my pockets… never helps. Also i’m 100% in love with all the sbux mugs this year… I have approximately 1 billion mugs so I probably won’t let myself buy any of them… but still. all so cute. Good job on the $1 chalkboard! HA
Natalie @ The Ravenous Mommy
Those fingers don’t look good! ouch!
I’m sick of the layers already, but I LOVE my snow boots 🙂
Just came back from the shopping center near by, and i could ear Christmas songs all over the stores and i felt so happy because : I LOVE CHRISTMAS so much !!!
Nice Mug 🙂
That mug is really cute! YAY on your super cheap purchase!
I try to be reasonable with money but also like to spend it on things I enjoy/vacations/good food/ALL THE CHRISTMAS DECOR! This is the first year I have a house and my hubby doesn’t know what he’s in for – my holiday decorating is going to be borderline excessive! 🙂
Spending money on travel is a great investment, as is decorating your first home!! You only get ONE first home!
Change of Pace
You should try maternity pants- awesoem for indulgent meals 🙂
I LOVE that mug!!! I must visit a Starbucks ASAP to see if they sell it in Canada!
In the first photo- normally I’d gravitate to the food. Today I gravitated to the green, sunshine, and palm tree!
Stay warm 🙂
What if I told you I do in fact own a pair of maternity slacks…because they are 1943974x more comfortable to wear at work than regular ones!?? HAHAA. I actually wear a dress to work so I’m always comfortable, but the off chance I wear pants they are def stretchy in the waist. No shame.
Ah my fingers do the same thing!!!!! I have been told I have Raynaud’s…basically poor circulation so I always wear gloves!
Yep, Raynauds it is!! Me too, me too.
Definitely Raynaud’s! Get the best mitts you can!
We are on a Starbucks hiatus….no takeout, including Starbucks. My husband has a $400 per month Starbucks habit – no joke! Check out our results page. 🙂
Oh I love that cute mug and the advent calendar! I’m a mega bargain shopper too, so I would have loved to have found that calendar. I don’t part with my $$ too easily unless it’s on food too! Ha. I LOVE food and your treats look so dang yummy….it’s making me want to go on a “treat run!”
I love that Advent Calendar! It’s so cute. And the weather is ridiculous. I can’t wait to move to SoCal. I am not a cold person. I mean, oddly my fingers are usually always cold, but I don’t like being cold.
Matt @ Runner Savvy
Love the holidays!
I am so ready for the holidays! I don’t really even have those great family memories that people cherish and I still cannot help but get in the spirit! I have about 6 different Christmas playlists on Spotify so I can alternate and not get burned out, the apple cinnamon lattes are all in my belly and I’ve been making soups like a boss.
Bring it on Mr. Frost!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
I SAW THOSE CALENDARS IN ‘MERICA.
Hi! I love starbucks and I hate Australia for not having any. Well, we do but it’s nothing like yours.
Brrrrrr stay warm!!!! It’s Not too cold down here in VA, thank goodness 🙂 love the Starbucks mugs!
I have Raynaud’s too! (That’s the fingertip thing.) It’s so frustrating. Also, you would probably be appalled by how many Starbucks mugs I have, haha. I collect them when I travel.
Bad blood “circulate-rs” unite! I think by appalled you mean impressed, I lust over Starbucks mug collections. 🙂
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
I gotta say- thank goodness for Starbucks otherwise we would have close to NO glimpse of Christmas here. Aside from the red cups, it makes me so happy to see all the Christmas drinks available alongside the Christmassy merchandise :)!
Choc Chip Uru
Haha your face SCREAMS christmas joy 😀 I would put you on greeting cards if they still delivered 😛
IM ON HOLIDAYS now btw so I get the excitement!
Choc Chip Uru
I love Starbucks mugs – we have a growing collection 🙂
You had me at reusable magnetic chalkboard. I might have even paid full price. Alright fine, half price.
We have an advent calendar which gets passed around to all the ladies in our family. Last year, I was the lucky recipient and this year I get to fill it for my lovely sister in law. We fill it with 24 small gifts, one for each day leading up to Christmas. It’s actually a lot of fun.
Can I please join your family and put my name on the list for “next to receive advent calendar?” That sounds like pure magic. I want you to stuff mine though.
You bet. You’d be a welcome addition to the family.
i saw the starbucks mugs yesterday, and i oohed and ahhhed and thought about purchasing for a good 5 minutes (didn’t actually happen – i have a similar JUST SAY NO stance about impulse buys). the forest mug? SO YOU. more exactly: so you circa summer 2014. blissfulbrit in the mountains and all that. oh, and that advent calendar? swoooon. has chocolate ever looked so good? i swear i wouldn’t want christmas to arrive just so the calendar surprises and goodies could keep coming.
You put this perfectly! My summer 2014 mug. 🙂
Food, Booze, & Baggage
Totally with you…all the money on the food things, but not too much random purchases! $7 for a chocolate bar though, won’t even blink 🙂
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
Your biceps in the first picture! That’s all.
Bahahaaaa, your comment made me legit laugh out loud. ❤
That magnetic chalkboard might just be the best storebought advent calendar I’ve ever seen. Storebought because nothing will ever beat the calendar my mum put together for us when we were still living at home every year.
Until now – we had our first day of zero degree weather today – my fingers have been okay but my toes. Oh boy …I swear it took more than half an hour to warm up when I finally got home after work. Because our office is only slightly warmer than outside. Or at least it feels that way.
The Vegan 8
Ok, I want that chalkboard!! Super cute and colorful. You are hilarious…love that selfie, LOL! And I love the stretchy pants, hahaha. $3 for a cupcake?? Well, if I was craving a cupcake bad enough, I’d pay for it too. In fact, I just remembered…I paid $4 for one awhile back at Sprinkles. They only had 1 vegan option, so damn, I paid it! It was a terrible grease ball though…there was so much oil in it, I could have moisturized my body with it.
Christmas is my favorite holiday too! But let’s celebrate Thanksgiving first. Happy Thanksgiving, Brittany! 🙂

I love your posts, Brittany! And being an ex “Shift Soop” myself, I can totally relate to wanting ALL THE THINGS that the Bux brings out for Christmas (while waiting for the inevitable sales and clearances post-season of course!).
Keep up the good work; I’ll keep reading if you keep writing! ;o)
Rach @ This Italian Family
YOUR HANDS! Oh Britt, your poor hands! You need some Hot Hands! Haha! Also, I’m the worst about mugs. I love cute mugs and we have more than we need already, but when I see another cute one (usually at Starbucks actually, haha!) I just find myself needing it. 😉
Diane @ Life of Di.
I was just in Starbucks yesterday and noticed all of the amazing mugs they had this year! I’m LOVING that tree one (and may have to buy it for myself.) 🙂 I also loved several of the ‘to-go’ mugs. By the way, I’m still seriously considering a job at Starbucks. We have one that is half a mile from our house and I will be needing to do some kind of part-time work come the end of January/beginning of February. I feel like they could be somewhat flexible? I remember you told me to go in and talk with the manager so I will be sure to do that if I apply!
YES, they are extremely flexible and Starbucks is such a great company. Benefits, 401K, free coffee up the ying yang, fun atmosphere, FREE COFFEE!! HAHA. Definitely show your face to the manager to stand out among the sea of applicants online.
