This is what my Garmin has looked like for the last two weeks.
Blank screen, dead battery, no sweat buildup, nada, zilch, nothing! I haven’t run over 3 miles since my last half marathon, and I have loved the break! I switched up my workouts to ensure I don’t get burned out. As for my Garmin, I think it’s burning out. Whenever I charge it, it will last for a day, then it will freeze, and then it dies. I will cry when this watch goes, it was my first ticket to the running big leagues!
Along with a break from running, two work days stand between me and a much needed break from Starbucks. My muscles are starting to feel the repetitive movements that go into making crack lattes. Goodbye cold, hello warmth! I will be spending 10 lovely days in Arizona with the sun, and some cacti. Be ready for some adventure posts.
I do see more running while on vacation, so Gary the Garmin better get his act together. No gym means using nature for my playground. I also see some good reading in my future. After dying and being reborn while watching Catching Fire I knew it was time to finally finish the last book of The Hunger Game trilogy. I’m struggling though..the read is SO SLOW compared to the other two books. I hope to finish Mockingjay along with a book my good friend Lily sent me. Perhaps it will inspire me to run run run while on vacation!
Happy Holidays to all my amazing blog friends, and to my amazing family. I don’t know how I did it, but I have successfully cut out any added sugar in my daily eats for the last two weeks. I cannot wait to face plant into some sugar Christmas morning!
Q: Are you taking any time off from work for the holiday?

happy holidays, lovely lady!! i’m a moron and in the midst of project ORT, i forgot to take time off duh! so i’m in and out of the office (ie. working from home some days etc) but working blah. even though everyone is off on my project so that just means going in to the office and blogging all day.
enjoy arizona and the heat! toronto is a mess with a 2-day ice storm and thousands have been without power for over 24hrs, which may extend until beyond christmas. we have been spared so far but even those who had power lost it last night as trees are falling onto hydro lines and cutting off power so you never know. and now we heard that temps are going to plummet to -25C tonight 😦 please bring some arizona heat back with you!!!

Oh no! My old garmin bit the dust too. The worst. Although I rarely run with a watch, and I mean rarely. Arizona sounds absolutely fabulous right now. I hope you have the BEST time and soak in as much sunshine as you can 🙂
Change of Pace
Have a most fabulous time in Arizona! Can’t wait to see pictures of red dirt and cacti!
I say that if garmin is acting up, leave it at home and just run!
And amazing about the sugar, especially at this time of year!
I’m taking tomorrow as a vacation day and then we get the 26th off in canada. Other than that, I’ll be working!
Brittany
I thought of you today, I went for an amazing “zen” run sans Garmin. It was magical.
alexvegginout
Sending healing vibes to Gary 😉 If he’s still acting up, you could always put a running app on your phone. That’s what I use currently, though I’m hoping for a Garmin for Christmas (*fingers crossed*).
Enjoy your break off girl!! You so deserve a great holiday. I was thinking about your post about giving, and I just wanted to let you know that you have given a lot – at least to me. All of your time and knowledge about running has helped me so much and helped me to find my passion for running. So THANK YOU!! Happy Holidays!
Brittany
Alex, this comment means the world to me. You have no idea how amazing that makes me feel knowing I helped you that much. I am so overjoyed to know you have discovered such a passion for running, all you needed was a tiny push. YOU put in all the work, I am amazed by you!! KEEP RUNNING! ❤
I am a Garmin lover through and through, I can't get down with the phone apps!! They always seem to be off when I test them out. I'm slightly number obsessed at times. HAHA. FINGERS crossed for you!!
Britta
ahhhh enjoy your trip!! I wanna come with you to some warmth! I hope Gary pulls it together for ya.. maybe he is just taking a little break and will be ready to go when you land under some sunnies skies? Yes yes. So you know all the sugar you haven’t been eating? I am positive I am eating it for YOU. I need to stop. It’s getting out of hand and soon you will have to roll me out of my apartment because I won’t be able to walk down the stairs. Jk.. sorta.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! ❤
Alex @ therunwithin
it is so funny how a few days, a week or more can totally get you pumped again for running. our body and minds totally need the switch ups every once and a while.
brickhousechick
Brittany, that vacation in Arizona sounds wonderful!!!!! I can’t wait to see pictures of your face plant into the sugar! Feliz Navidad!!! 🙂
Laura
Enjoy your time off! I’m taking this week off from everything, running included! That way I’ll be ready in the new year to get moving and train hard core for the ultra!
karla @ finding my fit
Enjoy the time off!! I only have 2 days off and I’m super bitter about it. take me with to AZ? =)
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Ahhh, we’ll be in adjoining states when you’re in AZ. Neighbors! Enjoy your trip!

Have a Merry Christmas, girl!

My garmin was doing the same thing for awhile. It would hold a charge for a day and then need to be charged again. It happened for like a week and then all the sudden it went back to normal. I have no idea what happened, but I know they can be finicky little bitches sometimes. Give Gary some TLC and pray he comes back to life 🙂

I hope you have a WONDERFUL time on your vacation! Relax, read, run, and relax!! I hope to do the same on my break. I have to get through a few more hours of work then I am off from the firm until the new year! Woot woot!! I haven’t ran since the half either….my hip flexor is STILL bothering me. It is driving me crazy. I hope to get a run in this week, if it lets me! Happy Holidays!!
Brittany
Oh no!! Sending healing vibes to your hip flexor!!

Like you, I’ve been relaxing for most of December. I’ll be ready to go again in the new year.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Arizona sounds pretty darn good with the subarctic temperatures we’ve been dealing with lately. Heck… Arizona sounds pretty darn good regardless. Have the he most awesome time! I’ll definitely be taking a little break from work for the rest of the he year, but being self-employed means there’s always something that you -could- be doing, so it’s going to take some serious conscious effort to make myself chill.

I hope you have an absolutely brilliant holiday my friend, Arizona is going to be gorgeous 😀
Happy Holidays!

OHMYGOSH OHMHGOSH OHMYGOSH!!!! When are you leaving for Arizona and where will you be??? We’re going there for a few days to visit my grandparents, and if we’re ANYWHERE nearby (aka within an 80-mile radius), I would LOVE to see you!!
I’m seriously hyperventilating right now. I’m crossing my fingers that this works!!
(Oh… I just realized. It’s probably not a good idea to share all of those details on a public blog. Email me instead? 😉 )

Girl good job on cutting back on the sugar!! Ive been failing miserably with that, especially since I spent all Saturday backing away in the kitchen. I had more sugar that day to last me until next year for sure! I just couldn’t NOT taste test the baked goods you know? 😉
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Brittany
I would be concerned if you DIDN’T taste test!! That is a must!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Happy Holidays my friend. Enjoy the break, Arizona, the cacti and frolicking in nature. I’m pretty sure Nature is where it’s at for you so I’m thrilled you’re going to be enjoying some. Merry Christmas.
Brittany
Nature is my place of zen. I sometimes imagine ripping my clothing off and running through the woods in nothing but a Tarzan like loin cloth, but then I decide that would be dangerous and not at all plausible.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Certainly not when cacti abound. Clothes on around prickly things.
Matt @ Runner Savvy
Enjoy your vacation! Me and don’t spend that much time apart 😉

The third book is sooooo worth it. I am so impressed you were able to avoid added sugar during this time of the year! Good job! Enjoy your time off and Happy Holidays! 🙂
Brittany
I’ve finally made it to a spot in the book where my brain is excited!! RIGHT after I posted this the book got good!! YAHOO!
PJ Sassifras
P.S. While in Arizona, Prickly Pear Pink Mojito is highly recommended. 🙂

Yessss! So happy you have this break and how nice will AZ be?!? Um amazing. Re charge your batteries and enjoy the sun. IM READING THE THIRD hunger games! Just started but I also have a book club book I need to read. Once again, we are like twiniesssss.

Brittany
I love Arizona! My dad lives in Glendale, and all his family lives in Peoria so we visit at least twice a year! I’ve only been to the Grand Canyon once though, and it was too long ago!! I need to go again soon!

Face plant or belly flop? Which is more graceful? BAH HA HA!
I wish I could open up one of my presents this year and you’d pop out – or better yet, SOMEONE GETS ME A TELEPORTING PAD so you and I COULD JUST visit each other ALL THE FLIPPING TIME!!!! COMMMMONNNN Santa! – Sadly, my fire place is looking… Rather coal-filled right now! lol
