Posted at 7:30 AM by Brittany, on July 6, 2013

Last weekend I spent some time with old/new friends. I say old/new because while they are new to me friends..I have met them before because we all went to high school together. A mutual friend recently came into town and brought us all together. Since the three of us have no friends we decided to make a trip to Seattle together.

The original plan was to go to a couple farmers markets, but we only made it to one and were only there for about 8 min. Enough time to snap some pictures & drink some juice.

    Fruit wine!

The remainder of the day was spent figuring out public transportation (I have never ridden so many city buses in my life, and it was a blast of an adventure), eating good food, and spending time looking at thrift shops, bakery’s, and coffee shops.

    20130630-11564920130630-115656

While this bakery had an adorable picture worthy sign, they did not have anything worth purchasing inside. So I did what any Seattle lover would do, and I walked across the street to Starbucks. I got some weird looks for getting a drip coffee while it was 80F outside.

This is how I double fist. Water and coffee!

This is how I double fist. Water and coffee!

It’s no secret that I love to walk, however the temperatures were getting higher and higher throughout the day, and it was hard to walk at times. You know you’re with good people when despite the heat you still go out of your way to walk for some sugar.

    20130630-115821

    20130630-115737

This homemade ice cream shop has one vegan ice cream option, which was delicious, but reminded my why I don’t like ice cream on hot days. Call me crazy, but I feel so sick and weighed down with the heaviness of frozen cream on a hot day. Nonetheless this coconut milk chocolate chunk ice cream was SO good. Must remember for a COOLER day.

    20130630-115812

I really liked that my ice cream was the same price as all the “normal” ice creams. Usually I find that I am paying more for a vegan option (which is lammmeee) but this place charges by the scoop regardless of the flavor! That’s the way to do it! All in all it was a fun and exhausting day with new friends.

Q: What foods do you stay away from on a hot day? Ice cream, fatty foods, HOT meals, anything heavy.

Seriously, your the cutest thing ever.
On hot days I tend to stay away from anything cooked. I love salads, smoothies and juices. Oh and I usually crave jumbo sandwiches from like Subway!

I try to stay away from hot meals on a hot day with the exception of coffee. I feel like it’s not good for my tum tum! And I definitely love the fact they didn’t jack up the price for the vegan option, too. I hate when stores have different prices for vegetarian or vegan options. Pisses me off a bit! I’m glad you had a great day out with old friends 😀

I wish that I had vegan ice cream options around me! (or maybe I do and I just don’t know where they are??) That’s great that they didn’t make you pay any extra for a vegan option. That’s how it should be!!

Brenners and I did some walking around and ended up with some ice cream around 1PM and it was a million degrees out. I immediately regretted the ice cream. We did some walking, then some putt putt, THEN I finally went to the gym and my belly feels normal again. Just needed some movin and groovin! In general for hot days though I only want salads and sandwiches. Any pastas and heavy stuff is out of my realm of enjoyment.

you seem to be having so much fun! 🙂 yay!! jealous. I love farmer’s market and thrift shopping but I don’t really have anyone to do it with here. I stay away from spicy foods on hot days. I’ll burn up faster when I eat it. AND I wish we were able to walk everywhere here. :/ I miss the Hong Kong lifestyle walking and riding the subway and not having to worry about gas or parking. *sigh*

I love ice cream on a hot day! If its really hot then I maybe prefer an icy pole rather than ice cream. I definitely wouldn’t eat Soup on a hot day, no way!

It’s generally always hot where I am – so soup is a big NO…. but I love soup…. what results is the “soup sweats” and that’s no fun. But soup is delicious.

That ice cream looks amazing and I’m impressed that it’s the same price as regular ice cream! It drives me crazy when restaurants over charge for healthy options- I went for a burger yesterday and ordering it with lettuce instead of a bun required an additional fee…the logic behind that made no sense!!

I am way more of a hot coffee kind of gal and still order it in the summer 🙂 Real ice cream weighs me down in the summer, too… I opt for froyo in the warmer months. And I am impressed the vegan ice cream was the same price! Healthier/vegan/GF foods are always more moola. Did you find and change on your walk?

This sounds like a perfect day! I am jelly you went to the farmers market- in grad school I could walk to it from my apartment and would go w my gf’s and it was a blast. Now I do not live close to one waaaaaah.

You are crazy for getting a a coffee. Hot days for me involve swimming- in the lake or the pool or in the tub. I need to stay cooled.

Fun fact- mr speedy’s dad wanted to name his Starbucks. He was a hippie and this was before the coffee shop… I am really glad his mother won that argument.

I usually prefer cooler days like you or in the evening after dinner 😉 I usually try to go for a non dairy ice cream as well, and prices are through the roooooooof so it’s amazing that this place didnt charge more! For me, it’s all about craving certain types of food when it’s hot outside rather than avoiding certain foods. Ice cream is one thing, but popsicles, or even better, SHAVE ICE 😀 is what I look out for when the temperatures rise!

On SUPER hot days, I usually go for sorbet rather than ice cream. And I justify it by saying it’s fruit-based, so it’s automatically healthy — right?? 😉 (And now your comment about hot on my ice cream cookie sandwiches makes sense! You must have just gone on this adventure!)

I hate chocolate on a hot day. I hate the way it sticks to the roof of your mouth. And then I hate the way it makes you panic and think you won’t be able to fully open your mouth wide ever again.
Yes, chocolate should always be avoided in the heat. Icecream or milkshakes should always be consumed!

You have to eat ice cream at the end of those hot days, when the temperatures have finally dropped so you can enjoy it. Love raspberry Tetris or raspberry anything. I could probably eat three of those containers in about 6.2 minutes.

I completely agree about ice cream, it seems like a great idea but it lays really heavy in your stomach after you’ve eaten it. It’s not great for day trips but more hot afternoons in a park or garden.
I try to stay away from ice cream and also foods like pasta/rice on hot days because I tend to get dehydrated and eat so much in confusion I get really bloated and uncomfortable! It’s fruit salad, sandwiches and grilled food all the way for me on hot days!

I don’t do ice cream on really hot days either. On the 4th of July, Kiefer got a root beer float, and he instantly regretted it. I tried to warn him that my snow cone was the only way to go, but he didn’t listen.
