Lately I have been spending a lot of time alone. Sometimes it’s peaceful, sometimes it’s not. This weekend I tried to get out and spend time around other people and bless them with my charm and wit. Friday I successfully got lost in nature, kind of. Can you get lost if you’re not alone?
I brought my sister with me to go for a walk in the woods because let’s be honest, I am afraid of going into the woods alone. What can I say, I’m a wuss. What I am not afraid of though, is honoring nature when it calls. I was no where near a bathroom and my bladder felt like it was carrying the entire San Diego Zoo. The problem was finding somewhere appropriate to hide. I don’t prefer this way, but I just had to.
Finally when I thought I couldn’t hold my bladder any longer I found a giant rock to hide behind. I told my sister to block my way and she then say, “Can Tiff try?” For those of you that don’t know, my sister has autism and is very impressionable. I probably should have held it, but I REALLY had to go. I said “NO! Don’t ever do this..and pretend it didn’t happen.” She said, “Keep it a secret.” Yes..keep my secret. Sorry mom.
I really enjoyed being out with the ferns, birds, and tree monkeys.
Sunday I spent time with a friend that I’ve known since I was a wee won.
For the record, yes I wear this jacket basically everywhere I go. I don’t know what I’ll do when the weather heats up for good. I’ll probably just cut off the sleeves.
While driving around Seattle I spotted the most beautiful graffiti I have ever seen.
I have been craving pizza, for WEEKS! For some reason I’ve had no motivation to make my own, and as a vegan it’s not easy to just walk into Domino’s and ask for a pizza without cheese. Plus who knows whats in their crust..ANYWAY. This pizza..was legit.
I chose the Field Roast pizza and it had: white garlic sauce, Field Roast, fresh tomatoes, spinach, and I ditched mushrooms for potatoes. Potatoes on pizza is the best. I think they also sprinkled dill on top, which I don’t really care for..but the pizza was so good I was able to ignore the dill. Plus I dumped enough red pepper and nooch on top to plug a flood hole.
The pizza is made to order, so you know it’s fresh. They don’t sell by the slice so I had to purchase a small, but that just means more for later. I love supporting small businesses.
I need to move to Seattle. Happy Monday everyone, I’m off to yoga!
Q: Have you ever used nature as a bathroom? Be honest…

I’m sure you definitely do bless people with your “charm and wit”! Those pictures are so gorgeous and relaxing and that pizza looks INSANE!!!
The Healthy Flavor
oh, and YES, I’ve used nature millions of times to go to the bathroom…too many times to count!
I have used Nature as my bathroom GAZILLIONS OF TIMES (camping, mostly, and while picking corn that summer I decided to do migrant framing).
Ps- Getting lost with someone you are able to “get lost” with is the best.
Alex @ therunwithin
gosh that pizza is making me drool. My new coworker at the running store has a nose piercing like you, I think you two are the only people i know who can pull it off and look amazing.
Aww shucks, thanks my friend. I never take mine out, but will have to for my new job..BOOO. It’ll go right back in once I’m done for the day though.
Her Happy Balance
So I am super intrigued as to what vegan cheese tastes like…is it comparable to non-vegan versions? The pizza looks amazing!! And yeah I have totally used an outdoor bathroom before…I mean it happens, right?
If you’re expecting it to taste JUST like real cheese, you’ll be disappointed. HOWEVER it’s GOOD!! I buy Daiya brand because I think it’s the best. It’s awful when eaten raw, but when melted it’s deeelish!
I LOVE nature and would stay in it 24/7 if I could, I truly believe it’s the best therapy. Being so deep in a forest you can’t see the way out or being in front of the ocean…Hands down amazing.
Glad you “got lost” with your sister and that pizza truly looks wonderful!
Michelle @ Eat Move Balance
For sure!! And no shame. When you’re hiking all day long, and staying hydrated, it happens. 🙂 That pizza looks outstanding!!
I love pizza. And I love going for walks with family/friends in the woods. Your weekend was perfect! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ducked behind trees in the woods. It grosses some of my friends out but I have no shame.
Good call on swapping the mushrooms for potatoes and also for peeing behind the giant rock as opposed to the middle of the bridge. You are wise beyond your years my friend.
I have used nature and even a parking garage…I’m so proud
Yay for you finding good vegan pizza!!
di @ life of di.
1) Question: Many a times!! 🙂
2) I love being alone in nature- I think I have mentioned this to you before but there really is nothing more relaxing!
3) That pizza looks soo good! Gosh I really need to eat some pizza soon! It has been far too long!
One word for you: Shewee. You won’t even need to hide behind a big rock anymore! I will never go hiking without it again. Seriously. I blogged about it last year because I love it so much. http://healthhappinesshumour.wordpress.com/2012/09/20/free-to-be-me-but-pee-like-a-he/
And that pizza looks awesome!
HAHHAHA!!! I hate it when nature calls like that! but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do! That pizza looks awesome… and now I kind want pizza?! I wanna move to Seattle too, its such a neat place, Gah!
I’ve been alone lately too.. so props for getting out with friends sometimes we all get in a friend-seeing rut, I am working on that lil’ tid bit myself lately!
Yummmmo! I peed once on a trail run with a girl I had never ran with before. I was a good 10 minutes ahead of her and ducked into the woods. She spotted me sneaking out and was all “hey whats up…” woops. We still talk so I didn’t totally ruin our friendship. I love that you took your sister out walking, so nice! I wish my lil bro was around and I could drag him on nature walks with me : ) Instead I just send him faceswap pictures of ourselves from whenever the last time I saw him was. Love!
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
bahahahahaha! I love this.
I will hold it until I DIE because I hate peeing without some way to dry myself down there. I like to think I’m generally not too prissy, but this one really gets me. I don’t mind using toilet paper/napkins outside…but I can’t use NOTHING.
Love the looks of that pizza shop!!!!
LOL at you and your sis in the woods! No worries, I’ve peed in the woods .. (and not so woodsy places) many times too 🙂
Such pretty photos! And that pizza looks incredible!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Well, considering how bad it can be to hold it in, you were just being healthy by going in the bushes, right? Setting a good example? Right 😉 I’ve done it when I was camping before, but never just like out of the blue. I need to have some TP… I just can’t do the whole shake and go thing 😆
Sometimes you just really gotta go. I had to pee in the woods about a year ago. I was so particular about where I went.
I’m so jealous you even HAVE a vegan restaurant near you! I don’t even have one… Let alone a pizzaria! I’ve gone to the bathroom too many times outdoors… Pee and, well, runner’s squats got its name for a reason! I made myself a place in the backyard of a neighborhood one time because I had no other choice. Oops?
Lindsay @ The Functional Foodie
I’m glad you finally got your pizza girl! That one actually looks so delicious. I’m pretty jealous of it. I’ve been spending a lot of time alone too since I’ve graduated and moved out of my apartment. I sort of enjoy it because I get to do a lot of work for myself.
Hilarity!! Loved it. Also, we are always making pizza at home, do you have any good recipes to share (that could possibly be adapted for my carnivore other half!)?
My pizza’s are always random creations of whatever sounds good for that night! So with that said red sauce is always a go to, and then I top it with spinach, peppers, ALWAYS potatoes these days (seriously you must try) vegan friendly meats, sometimes vegan cheese, sometimes not! I find that a GREAT pizza doesn’t always need cheese! PINEAPPLE is great too..I hope that helps..kinda..HA! Just throw on there whatever sounds good to you and I can almost guarantee it will turn out amazing!! Even better..GRILL the pizza!
No cheese on those ^^^ pizzas and they were amazing!
Change of Pace
Beautiful nature photos! You and your sis look a lot alike!
I go outside all the time when I’m running, hiking, and biking. The worst is in early spring or late fall when the leaves aren’t on trees yet and you just have to hope nobody drives or walks by!
My hubby would love that pizza! We actually have a place here that gives the option of Daiya!
Ha, I’m actually a huge fan on the “nature-wee” – it’s the best position to fully empty your bladder 😉 I’m a seasoned camper though so guess I’m used to it!
BAH! Nature has been my bathroom more times than I can COUNT!! I always have to go in the middle of the night when camping when I was little, so our dog would come out with me and he would guard me till I was done 🙂
Ja @Ja on the RUN
Oh, I’ve peed in the woods before when I went hiking and camping with my family last year. 🙂 Holding your pee is bad. You gotta do it when nature calls for it. LOL!
That pizza made me want some pizza right now! YUM!
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
The last time I used nature as a restroom was Sunday on my long run 🙂 I pop a squat all the time, haha. No shame here. Don’t know how you had any of the pizza left over! I wouldn’t have been able to eat only half… portion control problems! Oh, and I’ve been meaning to comment on the banner change… love!
That pizza looks so so good. As for your question – I’m usually able to hold it til I get home, but a couple weeks ago, I couldn’t wait. That will NOT be happening again anytime soon. I swear I got bit at least 3 times. Not fun.
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Yum that pizza looks great!
I hate needing to pee when there’s no toilet in site, but if you got to go, you got to go 🙂
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
That pizza truly does look legit! Yes, I have used nature as my bathroom, in fact it was only two weeks ago when the lineup for the outhouses at the half marathon were far too long and I would have missed the start. So me and my sister found a bush to go in, thankfully lots of other people were doing the same thing!
I HAVE used nature as my restroom! I had to pee in the middle of the Utah desert. I found some sage brush to hid behind and I had a great view of the rocky desert while I was doing it! I keep a roll of toilet paper in my car for these wonderful occasions!
There are so many vegan restaurants near Pizza Pi now. It’s so hard to decide where to go!
That’s a great idea to keep some TP in your car haha. I use nature more than I admitted to in this post! I saw lots of vegan amazingness right by Pizza Pi, but thankfully I knew I wanted pizza which made my decision easy. Now I want to go back and try everything else!
Luv What You Do
Your pizza looks amazing! You have some great restaurants out there!
I have definitely used a nature bathroom…no shame in it : )
Amy @ A Desert Girl
That pizza looked amazing! I’ve never has potato on pizza. But I love both so I’d give it a try for sure.
And yes. I’ve felt the call of nature in the great outdoors. Al fresco bathroom breaks are definitely NOT my favorite. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do though.
foods for the soul
Vegan pizza places exist?? Why aren’t there any near me?? Oh wait, because I’d eat there every day… And my wallet might hate me for it.
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
Hahaha I can’t recall ever leaving my mark on nature….although I can’t say I’m opposed to the idea. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do ;). Thanks for making crave pizza at 9 am!!!
that. pizza. must. have
i, too, am afraid of going into the woods alone. after watching so many scary movies that were based in forests and hearing about people dying in them, i am forever terrified!
That pizza…. no words! I’m about 99.9% sure I wouldn’t of been having to stop at one slice.. heck there’d be no leftovers after I was finished w/ it!
Allison @ Life's a Bowl
Seriously GORGEOUS pictures! And yes, I’ve used nature as my restroom… And consequently peed on my iPhone. It fell out of my back pocket. Idshiot move.
Life After Swimming
Look at that pizza! So yummy!! And love the story about your sissy 🙂 Hehehe! Love the pictures, dear!
You and your sister LOOK SO ALIKE! There are two of you running around…..
YOu should have peed under the bridge. That is my go-to spot when I have GI issues while running. I just scamper down underneath the bridge like ruplestiklskin (sp? that troll) and let it out. It is a TAD freaky though b/c people are running across the bridge while I am hiding and doing my business and well, it is just awkward.
I’m glad you were able to pee successfully.
THese pics are amazing. I should probably come visit. Or live nearby.
As usual, you are beautiful and your food looks delicious and reminds me I want a pizza stat.
That pizza looks amazing!! Get in ma belly!
kathy @ vodka and soda
here’s an embarrassing story: i once peed behind a club when totally hammered and couldn’t make it to the car to drive to a restaurant. i was hidden from view (or at least i hope i was!) but the embarrassing part was that where i was going had a decline hill so the pee pooled at the bottom near the sidewalk as i was going and then i heard someone shout: EWW! SOMEONE IS PEEING!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
THAT A GIRL – EAT THAT WHOLE PIZZA YOURSELF —– YES!!
PS: When nature calls around here… I usually head to the bathroom.
PSS: I am from WYOMING… Of course I have used the GREAT OUTDOORS as my bathroom! I have far too many “whoops I peed on myself” stories to tell! Ah ha ha ha!
That pizza looks absolutely unbelievable!! I wish that I had a vegan pizza place near me. I SO need to start putting Field Roast on my homemade pizza!
Hahahahahah omg that story is hilarious. And damn that pizza looks amazing.
Since I camp, I’ve gone in the woods a few times. Once though, I pulled over on a highway at 1am because I couldn’t hold it any longer. Not my proudest moment!
We all have those moments we aren’t proud of…I just didn’t include mine in this post. HAHA.
Rach @ This Italian Family
Oh my goodness, so many pictures of that pizza…………. it looks SO good! It looks so cheesy for a vegan pizza. Oh yum!
Of course I have (really there are people that haven’t?)
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
Used nature as a bathroom, of course! I have peed outside more times than I would like to admit. That vegan pizza looks amazing!
Choc Chip Uru
Haha we had a camp from school all about nature so of course we peed like in the before time 😉
That pizza has my name all over it! Yum!!
Choc Chip Uru
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
you always seem to have the best nature places to go to.
Bunny Eats Design
Vegan geek graffiti. That is very specific niche graffiti!
I’ve used nature as a bathroom more times than I can count. At least I’ve never pooped in nature though. Just wees. I like how your post started off with wees and then you refer to yourself as “wee won”. Was that on purpose?
You are awesome – as is that pizza.
And when you gotta go, you gotta go. Once I was stuck in traffic for 6 hours and just had to get out of the car at one point. Hiding was tricky – but it was managed.
Beautiful bridge in the woods! I love to go on nature walks-but like you usually need a buddy 🙂
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers
I was going to comment on how pretty those trees are, but then I saw the pizza, and welp… that’s dang pretty too!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
OMGGGG that pizza looks delicious!
Want that pizza and I’m not vegan. Totally agree with you about the potatoes and the dill (dill is the worst herb ever). I hate to admit that I have used nature as a bathroom way too many times to count. I have the smallest bladder known to man and always have to pee when hiking/running outside.
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
Haha that’s a funny story- I definitely have done the same. It’s impossible not to on a long hike. That pizza looks amazing. I like how they used so much cheese (I want to try vegan cheese btw). And “nooch”- I just Googled that. I think I’ll start using that because let’s be honest, “nutritional yeast” is probably the least appetizing word in the health food community!! Lol
I love alone time! I’m glad you finally got some! That nature looks gorgeous, and so do you with that lovely pizza! Happy Thursday! xx
Oh wow, that is beautiful graffiti…and beautiful pizza!
Here is a new invention that makes going to the bathroom easier, the new Squat Strap offers comfort and convenience when it comes to bathroom fundamentals. What is a Squat Strap? It is a simple device that takes the pain out of going to the bathroom when there isn’t a toilet around. The Squat Strap is a lightweight, foldable nylon strap made of recyclable material that comes equipped with an adjustable carabiner. And that’s all you need to make the calls of nature less painful. The strap loops around the lower back and then around a tree or rock. With the leverage of the tree he is able to lean back into a more natural position instead of trying to squat the old-fashioned way. The strap also allows you to stay higher off the ground, protecting from the potential threats of poison oak or ivy. The Squat Strap is simple but will not fail to amaze in the comfort department. Not only is the Squat Strap pioneering in its use as a bathroom aid, it can also be used to bundle and carry firewood or hoist packs up into trees to keep critters away. With the unbelievable 4 oz. weight of the strap and its plethora of uses, versatility and packability are Squat Strap’s middle names. http://www.squatmonkey.com/ Made in the USA.
