  • Fish Out of Water

Posted at 9:34 AM by Brittany, on April 5, 2013

Forgive me if my sentences jumble together like a fish out of water today. I broke my nail trying to obtain a piece of chocolate (I wish I were kidding) and I decided to pick the nail off. Now it throbs. I am also standing up to blog because since leaving my job at Trader Joe’s, my entire lower body has decided to store up on some excess material as if it were preparing for a famine. I noticed I was sitting a lot more than normal, so these days I blog standing up. I hope the little things count, because if not I’ll be wearing a parka to the swimming pools this summer.

I’ve been obsessed with random nature finds lately. Instagram has played a big part in that. I tend think I can make anything look unique. Take this random deserted train for instance. I imagine it was used to transport cake to Disneyland.

    20130405-08355220130405-083559

I didn’t Instagram these pictures, but I tried. They didn’t look as cool as I thought. Keep an eye out for me, you’ll see my name in Nat Geo soon enough with pictures of dancing camels spitting expensive wine.

The sun decided to leave yesterday. It poured so ferociously I thought I was going to have to get my canoe out to go to the gym. I don’t have a canoe, but I do have wood I could float on. Thankfully I enjoyed a suntastic day on Wednesday and busted out the grill again.

    20130405-083650

Roasted veggies never loose their sparkle. With these I ate a new creation.

    20130405-08361020130405-083625

A beet, wrapped inside pizza dough, and baked. That’s it. And topped with horse radish  SO random and weird, but oddly delicious! With the veggies it’s just like a pizza ball!

Lastly I need your help with something. It’s been brought to my attention that I have an ugly cat. Apparently he has funny lips.

    20130405-091411

Is this what it’s like to be a mother and think you have the most beautiful baby, when in reality your child looks like it just crawled out of a swap from a horror movie?

    Hahaha

    Hahaha

I guess I’m blinded by love because I think he is the cutest thing everrrr.

    20130405-08375720130305-161106

Q: Are you blinded by love with your funky looking pet? If you don’t have a pet your spouse counts too.

My dog has a long tongue and sometimes… It sticks very far out of his mouth. I just say he’s special. I can’t imagine what the beet/pizza dough tasted like… I’m really trying hard but my brain and body are confused. haha. I definitely feel you on the lower half. We can wear parkas to the pools together!

Now that I’m not teaching anymore, I feel the same way. I sit in front of my computer all day, and my back throbs my dinnertime! I’ve been trying to take at least one walk every afternoon (and the puppy thanks me for it too), but on those rainy days… Well, it’s hard not to just curl up in a fuzzy blankie and read a book for 5 hours straight!

And OH MY GOODNESS that pizza beet roll is BRILLIANT! I want to go buy beets and make pizza dough. Right now. No joke. Grocery store, here I come!

Haha I love the randomness of this post. I’d go for the pizza ball if there was cheese inside… beets might be too much for me 🙂
As for the weight- don’t worry about it. For me at least, I tend to gain probably 10 pounds in the winter because my body is storing the excess reserves and it literally falls off the second the warmer weather decides to hit. I don’t even notice it happening usually!

I think he’s super cute and not funky looking at all. At a recent vet appointment, our vet said that one of our cats was looking (and weighing) a little heavy. I instantly jumped to Kiki’s defense, pointing out that she’s a Maine Coon and they can get up to 25 pounds and so she’s actually quite small, thank you very much. I then spent a good portion of the drive home reassuring Kiki that she is beautiful and just the right size. We did switch her to light food, so it’s not like I’m in complete denial and putting her health in jeopardy or anything. But no one calls my cat fat and gets away with it. I love Instagram. I feel like those filters make me an awesome photographer. I’ll be in Nat Geo too, right there with ya. I also love your eyebrows. I would trade you and take your short eyebrows.

Hahaha I have a heavier cat, but he is not a Maine Coon and should probably not be 15 lbs. I’ve been monitoring his food to ensure he doesn’t over eat!! I would be right there with you defending my baby!

Please don’t wear a parka to the pool, I will make fun of you, haha. The little things DO matter… I just read an article that said you burn up to 50 MORE calories standing vs sitting. Doesn’t seem like much, but that can add up quick!
For the beet roll, do you roast the beet first or just wrap it raw and bake?

GREAT question, I totally failed to mention anything about cooking the beet. YES cook it first. Cook it whole and as it comes in a pan with some water and cover with aluminum foil for maybe 30 min or until the skin comes off easily. THEN put the beet into the pizza dough.

Better yet, if you live near Trader Joe’s you can buy their pre cooked beets and just stuff those RIGHT into the dough!! This way takes much less time! 😉

I think most people would agree that my little doodle man is adorable, but I did have a horse with Huge ears and everyone made fun of him for them. I loved him anyways! I was going to ask how to make them but I see you already commented above on this beet creation 🙂

Would you think it incredibly blasphemous and de-friend me if I said that breaking a nail over chocolate is so totally not worth it? Don’t get me wrong – I love chocolate – but there’s almost nothing I hate more than broken nails. Even the thought gives me heebie jeebies. I bought a desk to put on top of my desk about 8 months ago after convincing my brain that I was getting a fat RUMP by sitting on it while in front of the computer – and yeah, I am in front of this techno machine for… Yeah, it’s embarrassing how much I am in front of the computer, lol. But since getting this desk, I have not really had ANY BACK PAIN! ANY!!!!!!! Chairs can SUCK IT.

Your cat is a stud muffin and don’t you dare let anybody tell you differently. I bought Max some ridiculously expensive new food at the pet store in hopes it will stop his obsessive food stealing compulsion. Fingers crossed it works. The things we do for our felines.

Okay, first before I comment about the cat I must comment about your eyebrows. I am SUPER JELLLLLLLY! My eyebrows, probably because of Pirate, are super long and hairy and thick and need to be waxed like every two weeks. They literally represent the whole ‘Italian girl’ thing. I would love eyebrows like yours….

Moving away from the creepy eyebrow comment, you and your cat. I can’t comment due to my lack of love towards hairy animals but I think he looks totally fine. And the fact that you love him even though he is hairy is even better…. because I am loved even though I have hairy eyebrows.

(see how I tied all that in? a full circle)
