I used to really dislike walking into my kitchen and seeing this..
Spotted bananas usually meant my family was buying more than they could consume. If you hang around me, you know wasting is not an option. These days I have fallen in love with spotted bananas. Anytime I see them I know it’s the perfect excuse to bake something.
Something like banana, applesauce, almond milk, cranberry, pumpkin seed, chocolate chip, cinnamon breakfast cookies. Or as I like to call them, anytime cookies.
I used to only read school books, and even then I would only half read them. Lately I have really begun to enjoy, dare I say love reading books. I recently finished a book written by one of the most selfless people I have ever had the privilege of reading about.
Kisses from Katie is one of the best books I have read in such a long time, I finished it within 5 days. What an inspiration, oh and now I want to travel to Uganda and spread the word of Jesus. Anyone that wants to fund that trip hollerr!
I used to go to yoga because it helped stretch and build muscles in my body. For at least five years this has been my yoga practice. This past week I have gone to yoga every.single.day. sometimes multiple times a day and I have fallen in love with not only the physical aspect, but the mental aspect as well.
I have discovered something magical on that mat when it comes to quieting my mind. My thoughts have been awry this week and forcing myself to focus on the current moment has been amazing.
I used to eat popcorn with just a little bit of sea salt. Since discovering nutritional yeast my world has been rocked. I have fallen in love with this simple yet amazing..yeast.
The only problem is that a lot of the yeast falls to the bottom of my bowl..
Don’t ask me how I cleaned the bowl.
I have always been in love with the power I hold over my furry children.
My treatshake brings all the cats to the yard.
Q: What have you fallen in love with this past week, month, year?

Hmm never heard of yeast in popcorn, olive oil salt and parm is my choice…hehe looks like your a natural catwoman!
Brittany
The yeast makes the popcorn taste CHEESY!! It’s a vegans paradise. HAH!
Honey
I have fallen in love with your posts:)
Brittany
You make me smileeee!! I love your support =).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Spotty bananas, good books, and cheesy popcorn – definitely all on my love list. As is licking bowls 😉 Last week I fell in love with Hawaii. I’m so enamoured, that if I could, I seriously wouldn’t mind packing up my little suitcase and moving there for good. The nasty weather in Canadaland definitely isn’t helping either!
Brittany
I felt the SAME way when I went to Hawaii years ago. I envisioned myself living there. The pace of life is so much slower than in the rest of the states, I just loved it.! Lets go together!! Two incomes are better than one!!
Britta
Uganda trip? I cant say that I can fund it.. but I’ll come with ya!! I’ve been obsessing about Africa and travelling there for the past 6 months or so. Must GO! Imma go buy a lottery ticket today actually, if I win – consider your trip booked 😉 I need to go to yoga.. my mind is going a little CRAY at the moment. Soon as the ol’ half marathon is over I am going to yoga to turn into a very zen pretzel. 😀 Cookies look scrumptious, as always.
Brittany
BRITTA! My two letter shy name twin, I WILL hold you to taking me to Uganda if you win!! Simply because I consider myself your inspiration for it hahaha. Gosh zen pretzels have been so amazing.
Brennan
My love affair with baking totally changed the way I relate to spotty bananas too! I start plotting as soon as I see the first sugar spot!
foods for the soul
Oh my gosh. I can’t believe that you started making banana breakfast cookies too! I did this with just 4 ingredients (I’m a bit rushed in the mornings), but I like the idea of adding cranberries and chocolate chips too. I need chocolate at every meal of the day!
And I couldn’t agree more about yoga. I love the meditative aspect of it, and it almost always puts me in a good mood for the rest of the afternoon. Once I realized that, I started doing yoga as soon as I woke up — makes for a great day!
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
Haha I always hate how toppings never stay on my popcorn. I may or may not lick a few popcorns and slide them around the bottom of the bowl to get the toppings. 😉 Nutritional yeast- does it taste cheesey? Looks interesting!
Brittany
That’s exactly what I started to do with my popcorn, and then I just used my finger HA! YES it tastes so deliciously cheesy!! Plus it’s good for you!
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
The spottier and uglier the banana, the better in my books…mmm! Those cookies look rather delicious! I have fallen deeply in .love with sweet potatoes over these past few days…I’ve had it for 3 meals in a row and I’m already planning to roast some up tomorrow first thing! Nut butter + sweet potato = dreamy 😉
Shira
Fantastic post Britt! First of all…where is the recipe for those cookies? YUMMY! I want to make them…Also, yeast on popcorn is a staple in this house..it’s the best! And nothing worse than wasting the stuff at the bottom of the bowl! xo
Rach @ This Italian Family
I haven’t read Kisses From Katie yet, but I have heard SUCH good things about it! It’s on my to-read list for sure!
The Savvy Sister
Ha! love that last picture! Classic!
Alex @ therunwithin

“My treatshake brings all the cats to the yard.” I DIE!!! I guess you have to be a cat owner (guilty) to understand that but it’s so true. My cat comes running when I shake the treat bag. 😉 Nutritional yeast on popcorn? Hmmmmm I’d be down for trying it!
cleaneatingveggiegirl
This makes me laugh because that banana actually looks like the perfect banana for EATING to me! I love spotted bananas! Green bananas are a definite no-go for me.
Popcorn is seriously theeee best snack! I love your idea of adding nutritional yeast. Now if only we could get it to stick to the popcorn! What about coconut oil? I heard TJ’s has a coconut oil spray now. Do you think that might work?
Brittany
YES TJ’s does have a coconut oil spray!!! I think that would definitely work, anything to get the popcorn a little sticky!! Great idea.
Amy @ A Desert Girl
I love your posts. They’re my favorite. That picture of the cats is awesome – my cats do the exact same thing! And I sooooo want to be at that place where you are with your yoga. I need to put more into it and GET THERE.
Nicole
I have yet to try nutritional yeast. I have fallen in love with cho, apples and homemade granola 🙂
Megan
My roomy has that yeast laying around the house and I have used it and its awesome! I also love sea salt and garlic, mmm no making out for me! Something I am loving… I would say blogging! I have really started to love it! I just feel like I have this entire other aspect to my life that just brings another dimension. I have my work life, my me time / exercise time, my social life with my friends, the manfriend, sports teams, and now this. It is crazy how when I feel like things are going crappy I can take a little time and reflect and write / do something that is worth writing about and then all these online friends come back with their life stories and I don’t know, it makes me happy.
BTW – you need to start chopping and freezing those bananas to make some banana yo. You are missing out : )
Brittany
I loveee your comment the mostttest!! Seriously there is something almost therapeutic about blogging. I’m glad you are loving it!!
Uhhh wow I need to get on the banana yo train nowww…
spectacuLAUR
I really want to give Yoga a try… And not the Jillian Michael’s yoga… A really, certified Yoga teacher. I think it would quiet my mind and it would probably be good for my physical condition. I have yet to try the good yeast on popcorn but I bet it’s delish!
pickyrunner
I’ve never heard of nutritional yeast…. it changes the flavor? Interesting. I love the end haha “my treatshake brings all the cats to the yard” definitely laughed a little at that.
Brittany
It gives whatever you put it on a cheesy flavor!! Plus it’s goooood for you!
allieksmith
Kisses from Katie! I LOVED that book! I agree that she is just so selfless. Amazing and inspiring!
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Ill have to try popcorn with nutritional yeast it looks yummy. I really want to get into yoga probably more for the mental relaxation than anything else.
Your cats are so adorable 🙂
shuhan
I’ve aways loved over ripe bannas because I can smell them a metre away and I know then that it’s time for banana bread/cake 🙂 great ideas and great blog x

I love all these epiphanies…. especially you finding your “Om Shanti”
If you ever get a chance try a legit kundalini class…
Its not my favorite but you will definitely go places with all of the pranayama and chanting (yes you have to leave the ego at the door or you will crack up)
Brittany
The very first time I went to a meditation class a few years back, I was with a friend which was wrong move number one. The entire class was based on chanting and “oming” that when it came my turn to chant in front of the entire class…I lost it.
I’m proud to say that since then..I successfully “OM” and it feels GREAT! The catch is…I must be alone. Yesterday I brought a friend to yoga with me and it was laugh city all over again. Will keep my eyes peeled for a kundalini class!! Thanks!
Her Happy Balance
I haven’t tried nutritional yeast yet, how does it taste? Is it like a butter substitute on the popcorn?
Brittany
Even better…a CHEESY flavor bursts out!! It’s seriously the bomb. I’m so obsessed.
Mary
Never heard of nutritional yeast either! When my boyfriend and I were at uni we would have a film date night each week and always have to find something different to top our popcorn with! Cranberry sauce, melted white chocolate, melted milk chocolate, icecream…haha! I haven’t had popcorn in forever… 😦
This week I have fallen in love with sweet potatoes…
This month I have fallen in love with blogging…
This year I have fallen in love with running all over again! 🙂
kepotts
I used to be a green only banana gal too & then switched right on over to the mushy brown ones for no reason at all! I’m loving books right now, since I’m done studying for a bit & have some free time I’ve fully immersed myself in some good fiction 🙂
missymiller
Oh yeah… wanted to share this with you….

Why…WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME!! OMG those look so good. Thank god they’re not vegan or I would make and eat a whole bags worth of truffles!
An Unrefined Vegan
I’m gettin’ all teary-eyed reading about all the love!
Luv What You Do
Those cookies look awesome!!!
I love old bananas too but I usually make banana bread. Wish I had made these cookies. Yum!
Lou
Bananas, yeast, cats, popcorn and YOGA – man oh man I wished we lived closer, we would be BESTIES for sure.

I made banana and ginger muffins with my black bananas for the first time last week. I fear not the blacked banana!
Life After Swimming
I honestly WAIT for Trav’s bananas to turn spotty…I am not a banana eater but LOVE baked goods using bananas!

You may have already discovered Katie’s blog, but I love reading everything she writes (she doesn’t update it THAT frequently, but I check it all the time): http://kissesfromkatie.blogspot.com/
Brittany
YES I have!! I linked back to her blog in this post!! I actually spent a good hour one night just going through her blog, her Amazima website, mission trip websites..I was obsessed!! Thanks for sharing just in case!
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
what does nutritional yeast taste like? I love popcorn and that might be a great sub to what I use.
Brittany
It tastes CHEESY!!! It’s a vegan dream come true! Good for you too!
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
I shall look into it. I thought it’d be cardboard tasting. 😛

YOU WOULD HAVE DIED IF YOU LIVED IN MY OLD APARTMENT WITH MY OLD ROOMMATE! Okay, I will stop SCREAMING now… BECAUSE: he would buy like a MILLION bananas and NEVER eat them! EVER! He was too busy, and would always forget… Then one weekend he saw his 298348843 bananas just rotting away on the counter and decided to turn into Martha Stewart and he made 8 loaves of Banana Bread. I am NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING! 18 loaves! I remember the TV guy came to the house and after he fixed the TV I offered him a slice of banana bread just to get rid of it and I wound up giving him a whole loaf…And he gave me his personal number just in case the TV &/or WiFi decide to act like a little bitch. lol! I should have just brought a loaf with me to the bar, DUDE MAGNET!
Life's a Bowl
I am probably one of the few people who actually prefer spotty bananas to their perfectly golden friends – especially mushed up in some cereal + Silk + cinnamon or on top of rice cakes + dark chocolate chips 😛 We buy the “day old” banana bags from the grocery store – ohhh yeah!
myhighonlife
I really need to find some nutritional yeast. Everyone raves about it and this WISCO girl loves her cheese. Sadly it doesn’t like the waistline though 😉
I really want to try yoga. My gym has a yoga studio and offers so many classes but I don’t want to be the noticeable beginner. Such a silly reason holding me back from going but… I don’t like being judged or looked at for that matter.
I have fallen in love with working out and eating healthy all over again. It’s been a tough two weeks and my body is exhausted but seeing transformation is worth it!!
Natalie @ will jog for food
I need to to do that with my bananas! They are starting to get just a little over ripe.
thoughtsappear
I’m really picky about my bananas. Really picky. One brown spot and they’re destined for banana bread.
The Healthy Flavor
I totally agree I am obsessed with nutritional yeast!! I put it on everything! Sooo good! Those cookies look awesome, I only wished I liked bananas 😦
Yum Yucky
Brittany!! Hey, gurrrl. I need to do more Yoga. Not only are my legs currently squealing, but the serenity Yoga offers is what I need right now. Half-naked Yoga is the best: Topless while in locked bedroom so kids can’t bum-rush my nakedness and be scarred forever by the sight of my pancake boobs.
kaityscooking
i loveeeeeeeeee putting nutritional yeast on my popcorn, def a fav snack of mine.. i get so excited when my bananas get spotty now, hate when they are to yellow/green, so gross! I use to be obsessed with yoga and then just stopped going out of no where. I have been trying to go atleast once a week just really haven’t found any classes i have liked enough yet grr!

Oh, dahling! This post gave me chills! The yoga! The yeast! The kitties! Love! With what have I fallen in love during this past week? My alone time with Gwendolyn. We are so busy with clients that alone time is rare. But when it exits, we relish every damn moment. Kisses to you! xo
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Kitty, kitty, kitty. I love your kitty shake, your love of books, and your love of nutritional yeast. I am loving soups (I made my fifth in a week), and puzzles. I would like to stay in my house with my kitties for a week straight and do puzzles. I might even shower. Might.
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
GIRL, you gotta put some soy sauce on that popcorn first – it helps the nooch stick!
katalysthealth
Mmmmm popcorn!! Coconut oil + cocoa powder is where its at for me. Oh and maybe a touch of sea salt. Good heavens I love popcorn!
Christina Does It All
those breakfast cookies look phenomenal!
also….”My treatshake brings all the cats to the yard.”
bahahaha. i love you.

Haha, I’m glad you’ve found a new love for ripened bananas 🙂 I can usually still enjoy eating a fairly ripe banana, but my days of excitement over finding a super ripe banana have passed since I rarely bake anymore. Back in the day (when I lived at home), I used to bake banana bread like it was my job! Banana flavored baked goods are where it’s at, though, so keep it up!
I’m intrigued by this nutritional yeast topping. I presume it’s salty in flavor? And of high nutritional value?
Also, congratulations on having had such a great yoga practice lately! Mine’s been on the upswing lately too, and it really is so rewarding!
Recently I’ve fallen in love with short afternoon walks outside while listening to Pandora 🙂
Brittany
The yeast actually has a CHEESY flavor, not super salty and YES it has great nutritional stats!! Hit up the Google if you’re interested, I was on there for like an hour one day reading all about the stuff!
Walks outside are amazing, and the weather is slowly starting to allow more walks!
Heather HomeMaker
My local movie theater has different spices that you can put on your butter, and I noticed one was yeast. I’ll have to try it next time!
