What would you guess this pile of slop was meant to make?
If I told you which setting I used would that help?
What if I told you what was in the blender? Bananas, maple syrup, cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla, sugar, salt, oats, and black beans..yes..BEANS. What if I told you this combination made the silkiest brownies I have ever had? Would a picture help?
Black Bean Brownies
- 1 15oz can of black beans drained and rinsed (I used these ones because they are unsalted)
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup raw sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Preheat your oven to 350. Grease your 8in pan. Combine all of your ingredients into a blender or a food processor and blend until smooth. Add chocolate chips and stir with a spoon. DO not blend the chips. Pour batter into your pan and bake for 30 min or until a toothpick comes out clean! SO easy! I also added a super secret ingredient for extra OOMPH..
Instant coffee for extra flavor! Seriously, these brownies are SO silky. They don’t have the texture of regular brownies, but boy are they good!! High in protein, and high in fiber..I’m sold. Lets just look at that picture one last time.
Swoon ❤
Q: What’s your favorite bean recipe? Link it to me! Beans beans the magical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot! I LOVE BEANS!

Those look and sound delicious- thanks for sharing the recipe!
Years ago my mom made Black Bean Brownies and I really enjoyed them. A couple months ago I found a recipe for vegan Blondies and they were pretty tasty, too!
Alex @ therunwithin

Life After Swimming
Oh my gosh. I must make these. Bookmarking this right now.

I’ve tried to make black bean brownies before and they turned out TERRIBLE, I think I need to try your recipe
An Unrefined Vegan
I’ve had one success and one failure w/ black bean brownies…I think a big part of the issue is adjusting one’s textural expectations! At any rate – yours look better than both of mine!
Brittany
YES you must not expect these to be flaky and crumbly like normal brownies haha. I was a bit surprised by the texture, but not in a bad way!
The Savvy Sister
Must try these! My fave recipe with black beans has to be the plant-based chili

myhighonlife

luminousvegans
Woweee, a good for you legume in a dessert?! That is so cool!
mom
I had my doubts about these brownies. I came home and saw them and thought, oh man I don’t know. But they were like fudge. Amazing really. You all have to try them.
Brittany
That should teach you to never doubt me again!
missymiller
OMG that looks good and the coffee addition? BOOM BRILLIANT.
(PS- Weird to say but can’t resist the manfriend is just….he’s a hottie!)
Brittany
Bahahahaha BEST comment ever!! NO SHAME! I think he’s a hottie myself 😉 You have good taste my friend.
Natalie @ will jog for food
Ummm, WOW! Those look amazing. I will make these as soon as my banana cake runs out 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ok, your mom’s comment just makes these brownies legit 😛 I actually love[d] beans, but never tried them in dessert. I kinda, sorta want to, but at the same time, my stomach really hates me when I eat beans and I’d rather not mess around with it for now because it’s been a bit testy lately 😯
Brittany
I totally hear you on the tummy problems, beans WRECK me at times. I found that since these were completely blended, they digested better. If beans aren’t chewed well enough it’s hard for our digestive systems to break them down on their own because they are a complex carb, but if they are blended up and broken down FOR us..they are easier to digest!! HOWEVER I don’t want you to make these and then have tummy problems and blame me! HA!
Sara @ Nourish and Flourish
These look AMAZING!! I’ve heard so much about black bean brownies, but I’ve never made a batch of my own. This post (and that photo!) has definitely sold me though; I’ll be making these for family when I’m home next week. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
onehealthymunchkin
These look so fudgy! I’ve made chickpea blondies before (Chocolate Covered Katie’s recipe… so good!), but never black bean brownies. I’m definitely bookmarking these to try! 🙂
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
ohh wow … I know people use it for other desserts but for straight up brownies?!?! what does it taste like? More sweetish or more black beanish?
Brittany
I swear you would have NO idea the beans were there. I used an ENTIRE CAN, and there was NO bean flavor at all!! The main flavor was the banana!
Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
okay that makes me more prone to make it because I think people might freak a little if I said they were black bean brownies. I wouldn’t tell them til they took a bite or finished it haha
Luv What You Do
I thought I saw banana in that first picture. Crazy! I never thought brownies although I have heard that they are fantastic in brownies. I willd definitely have to try these out!
My favorite bean recipe is probably bean dip. This one is so easy because it is just beans, corn, tomoatoes, with lime juice and cumin!
Corrie Anne
Awesome! I love adding sbux vias to baked goods!
jessielovestorun
Oh man girl, these look ridiculously good!!!
Khushboo Thadani
Okay so after my epic fail with chickpea blondies, I vowed to stay away from bean-based desserts. This is the 2nd recipe for black bean brownies that I’ve seen today! I think it’s a sign to give them another shot, especially given that kinda gooey consistency :)!
Tanya @ Dine, Dash, and Deadlift
Those brownies look delicious! I have never actually gotten around to making black bean brownies, but it is always on my radar. My favorite dessert recipe with beans is the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough from Chocolate Covered Katie. Seriously addictingly delicious. The reipe is essentially garbanzo beans, oatmeal, pumpkin puree, and chocolate chips. YUMM!
The Scrumptious Pumpkin
I’ve heard about black bean brownies, but I’ve yet to try them out. I’ll have to soon – looks like they create a really rich, fudge brownie – they look sooo tasty! 🙂
Laura
Yum! I’ll have to try these. They’d be good with pumpkin too 😉
GiGi Eats Celebrities
So that blender is missing a button… Make me a stunningly sexy man. You press it and the second you drink whatever you put in it (although I am not sure you want to put beans in there… you don’t really want to be tooting around a sexy friend)… Ryan Gosling’s twin brother pops in your kitchen!!
Brittany
I ate that button. I had too many Ryan Goslings and Gerard Butlers in my kitchen I had to shove them down the garbage disposal.
GiGi Eats Celebrities
Uh, can I come cook in your kitchen please? LOL!
Britta
oh mannnnn these look amazing!!!!! MAKING THEM ASAP!!! I’m just catching up on posts, BAD BLOGGIE FRIEND I AM!! Life is a little too cray for my liking right now!! YUM YUM YUM, these are seriously the bomb.
lizzyj1305
yummmm I have serious love for black bean brownies, I make them all the time.
last fall I made a pumpkin pie with white beans…it was delicious, no one could tell! 🙂
I hope you’ve been having a great week so far!
xoxo!

HA! The first thing I thought when I saw the blender was BLACK BEAN BROWNIES!!! I need to make these asap!!

WHAAAAT? Ok well Ive never tried bean brownies, since Im not one to kick the standard brownie out of bed if you know what I mean, but these look pretty good! Im just always so nervous about making them. Maybe if someone else made them for me….send me some?? 😉
Ali Mc
I just found your blog, I have blender envy, as mine just blew up….literally 😦 I am definitely going to test this recipe out!
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
I’ve been dying to try a black bean recipe! These look incredible! Pinned for later 🙂
Rach @ This Italian Family
Once upon a time a friend of mine made black bean brownies. They were terrible. Ever since I have been wary of beans in desserts, but I have to say that your brownies actually look really quite delightful. And because I love you, I also trust you. Which means I believe you wouldn’t lead me astray here. So I might, maybe just maybe, try making these at some point if I am brave enough. 😉 Seriously, though, these do look REALLY good! Hard to wrap my mind around the fact that they have beans in them!
liveblissful
love this recipe, thanks for posting it 🙂
vegansmule
These look incredible! I’ve been working on perfecting the vegan brownie- I may have to give theses a go! 🙂
