Posted at 9:51 AM by Brittany, on November 12, 2012

What would you guess this pile of slop was meant to make?

If I told you which setting I used would that help?

What if I told you what was in the blender? Bananas, maple syrup, cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla, sugar, salt, oats, and black beans..yes..BEANS. What if I told you this combination made the silkiest brownies I have ever had? Would a picture help?

    Black Bean Brownies

    • 1 15oz can of black beans drained and rinsed (I used these ones because they are unsalted)
    • 2 ripe bananas
    • 1/3 cup maple syrup
    • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
    • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1/4 cup raw sugar
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/4 cup oats
    • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat your oven to 350. Grease your 8in pan. Combine all of your ingredients into a blender or a food processor and blend until smooth. Add chocolate chips and stir with a spoon. DO not blend the chips. Pour batter into your pan and bake for 30 min or until a toothpick comes out clean! SO easy! I also added a super secret ingredient for extra OOMPH..

Instant coffee for extra flavor! Seriously, these brownies are SO silky. They don’t have the texture of regular brownies, but boy are they good!! High in protein, and high in fiber..I’m sold. Lets just look at that picture one last time.

    Swoon ❤

Q: What’s your favorite bean recipe? Link it to me! Beans beans the magical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot! I LOVE BEANS!

Years ago my mom made Black Bean Brownies and I really enjoyed them. A couple months ago I found a recipe for vegan Blondies and they were pretty tasty, too!

I’ve had one success and one failure w/ black bean brownies…I think a big part of the issue is adjusting one’s textural expectations! At any rate – yours look better than both of mine!

YES you must not expect these to be flaky and crumbly like normal brownies haha. I was a bit surprised by the texture, but not in a bad way!

Ok, your mom’s comment just makes these brownies legit 😛 I actually love[d] beans, but never tried them in dessert. I kinda, sorta want to, but at the same time, my stomach really hates me when I eat beans and I’d rather not mess around with it for now because it’s been a bit testy lately 😯

I totally hear you on the tummy problems, beans WRECK me at times. I found that since these were completely blended, they digested better. If beans aren’t chewed well enough it’s hard for our digestive systems to break them down on their own because they are a complex carb, but if they are blended up and broken down FOR us..they are easier to digest!! HOWEVER I don’t want you to make these and then have tummy problems and blame me! HA!

My favorite dessert recipe with beans is the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough from Chocolate Covered Katie. Seriously addictingly delicious. So that blender is missing a button… Make me a stunningly sexy man. You press it and the second you drink whatever you put in it (although I am not sure you want to put beans in there… you don’t really want to be tooting around a sexy friend)… Ryan Gosling’s twin brother pops in your kitchen!!

Once upon a time a friend of mine made black bean brownies. They were terrible. Ever since I have been wary of beans in desserts, but I have to say that your brownies actually look really quite delightful. And because I love you, I also trust you. Which means I believe you wouldn’t lead me astray here. So I might, maybe just maybe, try making these at some point if I am brave enough. 😉 Seriously, though, these do look REALLY good! Hard to wrap my mind around the fact that they have beans in them!
