Yesterday I ran race number eight of the year. My first 8K race, which is just .03 miles shy of 5miles (which is the most common distance I have raced thus far). An 8K for the eighth race, how appropriate. The course ended up totaling 4.9miles according to my Garmin. I once packed myself some Starburst to eat during a 10K, but found out there is gelatin in the ingredients..gross. This time I tried something different.
To be honest, these jellies are so delicious I need any excuse to eat them..including a mere 5mile run. I stuck these in my pants for safe keeping.
I love the secret pocket my running pants have. Some people might use it for their keys, or money. I most definitely need mine for some kind of edible item. I didn’t even care that I had a giant bulge protruding from my left hip.
Look close, right under the 7 it looks like I am packing a silver bar.
The race course was great. The inclines and declines were mild, and the temperature was ideal. Not to mention I was able to run next to a total hunk near the finish line.
I’m not sure how or when, but 4554 ended up pulling ahead of me in the last stretch…… and beat me. I don’t know this for sure, but I am going to guess this guy is a heart doctor. You go mystery-coco.
I finished the race in 49:20 at a 10:04 pace. My only complaint was about the girl running so closely behind me that her breathing sounded louder than a jackhammer, and her running number was flopping all over her shirt which annoyed me. I wished I had that silver bar to throw at her.
Post race I stuffed my face with free watermelon, and my pockets with free builder bars. Aside from being manufacture on machines where dairy “may be present in traces”, these bars are vegan friendly and oh so delicious.
I grabbed six, but couldn’t wait to eat one. I’ll give you one guess as to which flavor is my favorite. Another race down, and one race away from Disneyland! Next week is my first 7miler..acckk!
Q: Do you ever bring sugar laden snacks to eat during workouts for a boost?

Looks like fun! Yucky about the gelatin in starbursts, thanks for the heads up!
My hubby just picked up a bunch of clif bars/the protein cliff bars and loves them!! I had a Clif bar recently and it did not sit well, I wonder if it was the oats or some wheat in there but maybe I will try them again some time 🙂

HA mystery-coco. That’s great! I always love the free loot at the end of races. Makes it worth the race 😉

Hmmm I gather you like chocolate and peanut butter together haha! Way to go on the race- you are going to crush Disney before you know it!! When I was running longer distances, I used to snack on raisins/dried apricots during the run which gave me the sugar rush to power through! I’ve always had more of a sweet tooth in terms of chocolate- jellies/candies were/are not my thing, even less so when I am running!
the second serving
I like your little stash of candies, it’s chipmunk style, storing for later!!! But most of all, congrats on number 8!
IHeartVegetables
Hahaha I love how you had your stash of candies 😉 I never run far enough to justify it!! Maybe that can be my motivation for running more 😉

These pictures are incredible, it looks like you had a great time! I love your stash! I really don’t like when I can here breathing behind me, even though I am sure that I probably do it to other people too haha! 🙂

Woooo you go girl!!!
Alex @ therunwithin
that is where I keep my fuel too, I always try untraditional fuel as well. My last and fastest half marathon I had sweet tarts that I used. So good and really helped. Nice job on your race.

Nice job! And can I ask why you look as perfect as you did BEFORE the race?! My shirt would be soaked and face would be beat red! Lucky duck 😉
Life After Swimming
Awesome race, girl!! I am totally in favor of using the pockets for food..food wins over keys every time!

My sugar-laden snack of choice is M&Ms. I’ll have to check out those fruit jellies.

Oh my god I feel you on heavy breathers. I just want to smack them and get them out of my face-it’s def my biggest pet peeve of any racers. Great job and those pants look optimal to carry food. 😉

Way to go! I laughed at the finish line.. you two look so relaxed like you’d just run across the street to visit friends.. the other guy.. well, struggling in agony might be the best description, lol! Love your pink laces matching your pink top! And you’ll do great in your next race! xx

Brittany, I save your posts for the moments of when I need a huge freaking smile on my face! 😀 And this did the trick, as always!!! First off, you and manfriend running beside one another is simply too cute for words. Second off, congratulations on our 4.9! And third off, I must now divulge the standard contents of my little lululemon pocket because you asked… drum roll, please!… dog salmon treats!!! LOL, ew gross! But guess for whom! 😀

Oh wow, I want those candies. And hey- what brand running pants are those with the secret pocket? Want!
Brittany
I got these pants at a French boutique known as Tar-get pronounced tar-jay. Target…I want to say around $25 bucks! They’re awesome! In the workout section, I got them a few months ago so they might still be there.
Kristen @ Swanky Dietitian
Congrats! An 8k is a great distance! Those jelllies look delicious enough to eat, race or no race!
You are running in Disneyland! I really really want to do that race! 🙂

You are amazing. And adorable. Only you could have a gigantic smile near the end of a tiring race! (And I dare say only you would be so crafty as to stash fruit jellies in your pantalones! haha)
