Posted at 8:01 AM by Brittany, on April 23, 2012

If you feel like time traveling back to when you were 12, then I have the perfect recipe for you. Lets get our bikes, Polly Pockets, Ranger Ricks, Pokemon cards, (I may be the only person alive that still played with Pokemon cards in their 20’s. I have younger siblings and they taught me how to properly play, I was HOOKED! It was so much fun) and jelly shoes on, because it’s time to make a bite size treat fit for 12 year old royalty. I most definitely showed my age with this paragraph.

    Mini Banana Splits

    • Banana (or two..depending on how wild you’re feeling)
    • Chocolate
    • Sprinkles (or just steal a rainbow and put it in a blender)
    • Ice cream
    • Whipped cream
    • Fruit

First things first..cut your bananas into pieces, but keep the skin on while you hollow out the top! Otherwise the banana falls apart.

Use any device you’d like. All I could find was this anal probe in my moms kitchen. I kid, I don’t know what it is..but it looks like a torture device. It worked perfectly though. Now you’re ready for the best part.

Melt the chocolate, dip the bottom of the banana, and then roll it in sprinkles.

Now you’re ready to assemble. Take whatever ice cream you prefer (dairy, soy, almond, coconut, cat milk) and put a plop right into the hollowed hole.

    Plop.

Then take whatever whipped cream you prefer (dairy, or vegan friendly) and swirl some of that on top of the cat milk ice cream.

Once that’s done, you pick the fruit for the topping. I hate cherries, so I went with frozen blueberries. I chose those because A.) I hate cherries, and B.) That’s all I had.

    Voilà.

You can either be greedy and eat all four pieces alone, or share with your grubby friends. Make sure they trade you one holographic Pokemon card for EACH banana bite. They’re fun to make I promise.

One time when I was in the 12yr old range, I wanted to play outside with my friends so bad I ignored the fact that I had to go to the bathroom (raise your hand if you know where this is going.) I stayed outside for hours riding my bike until I couldn’t hold it anymore. I ran inside only to find that I had waited too long. I had no choice but to stand in the tub, overalls fully in tact..and let the fluids run. I was now the only 12 yr old in my hood that peed their pants. Obviously I have a lot of cool points accumulated from my adolescence.

Q: Share a funny story about your pre-teen years!

These are the cutest banana splits ever! They remind me of chimney stacks for some reason! Haha funny story, don’t worry I’ve been there too. I remember me and my friend were walking her dog in the winter, and I REALLY had to go (it didn’t help that it was freezing out). Anyways my friend slipped and fell, gave me the weirdest expression and then started to laugh really hard. At that I broke into uncontrollable laughter and I bet you can guess what happened next with a full bladder? Who said yellow snow was only from dogs?

Me too!! I literally had no idea how to actually play the game until I was in my twenties. I just collected the cards because they were “cool.” Once I learned the game play..it was over. I was the one begging my younger siblings to battle me.

Pre-teen years were the best! I remember coming home, totally excited to watch Lizzie McGuire, That’s So Raven, and Full House! I also remember I went through a phase where I was convinced I was a witch, so I created a spell book and a “magic potion” that consisted of carrots, water, and bread crumbs. Let’s just say our fridge got a tad stinky :p. But your story is hilarious!

Those banana splits look awesome! I’e never actually tired a banana split, which obviously has to change because I LOVE chocolate and bananas! I love your blog, can’t wait to continue reading :)!

Okay these might be the cutest banana splits I’ve seen..EVER! I wish I knew you at age 12 bahah! An embarrassing story of mine: I was a major tomboy growing up and lived in Nike nylon shorts and baggy tshirts! I had to attend a cousins’s wedding and my mom forced me to wear a dress! I took off my shirt and put my dress on, and said I’d take off my shorts right before we left!…Guess who forgot to take them off! Halfway through the reception, I see a bit of blue peeking out of my dress- at least my cousins got a good laugh out of it!

Obviously the banana splits as cute, clever and delicious as they are cannot compete with the peed-in-my-pants stories. I peed my pants twice. Once in 2nd grade. Right in my seat, in class. I can still hear the delighted shriek of Sheila (name changed) as she yelled: She peed her pants! And I also peed while standing in one of those endless, circuitous lines at Disneyworld. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. We rode the ride anyway. What, give up our spot?

Once in Junior High I wore a cute pink, above the knee skirt to school and on the bus ride home was in a fantastic mood because “Adam” was on the bus that day. We talked a little and too soon it was my stop. I walked to the front of the buss and then proceded to fall on my butt while simultaneously sliding.. which caused me to hit my butt on each step on the way down until finally I was sitting with my legs sprawled on the road. (in the above knee skirt)

Most likely all he had actually seen was my head disappearing quickly but at that point I just burst into tears and had to be carried across the road by my older sister so the bus could leave. Mortifying.

Also I bruised my tailbone. :/ hahahah! I have a more embarrassing story (similar to manfriend’s!) But I will never tell, neverrrr!

People hardly had caller id or cellphones back then so it was WAY easier. I was never very brave about it!! My favorite prank now is to call my mom and ask for me (Corrie). My parents still don’t have caller id… but at least they don’t have dial-up internet anymore. lol

OMgah, I love your story at the end about peeing your overalls. I would have thought you were mega-cool and probably tried to do that just so I could cement our friendship in bodily fluids. (thats gross). I actually do recall one time when I was probably about 12 or 13 and had to PEE really FRICKEN bad. When I went to the bathroom, to my horror, all three were being used. I opted to barge into the one that my sister was using and actually hopped onto the counter like a monkey and squatted over the sink and just peed like no-big-deal. She was horrified. And screamed the entire time. This only caused my Mother to come crashing into the bathroom, and find my sister pitching a fit on the toilet and me just smirking and squatting over the toilet.

Okay. I think that was all that occurred.

I’m done. PS I want some of the baby dessert banana goodness. YUM.
