The transition from fall to winter is a beautifully painful one for me. Perhaps it is still too early for me to mention the word winter, but in my lovely state of Washington we experience the beginnings of winter a tad bit earlier than some of you more fortunate states.
What is wrong with this photo?– Besides the fact that my brights are on, and I am taking a picture while going 46mph.. the thermometer reads 27 degrees. This painfully cold weather brings many good things. Such as frost on trees and flowers, providing for beautiful scenery and photography.
This also provides more excuses for tea breaks.
I’ve obviously had a hard time saying goodbye to Halloween, my favorite mug will be used year round regardless of the holiday. Plus I like pretending my cat is with me at all times.
Although this transition can be gorgeous, it is slightly painful for my limbs. A lot of this will be happening.
Thanks to my terrible blood circulation, I soak my mitts in hot water to assist the flow back towards my heart. As if this weren’t enough, I get terrible dry skin on my hands when the weather gets cold. This happens a lot..
As much as I’d like to say that this is bird poo from a bird that ate too many beets, that is indeed blood due to the crack-age of my hand skin. I am hopeful this year because thanks to my beloved soap from TJ’s, my soft skin has been prolonged into the colder days.
This stuff is like liquid crack..for your skin.
There is one more thing that happens to many people that I can’t prevent. I must carry a ton of tissues with me in order to cope with this hindrance.
There are a few reasons as to why your nose runs when the weather is cold, but my favorite is the paralyzing of your nasal cilia. This cilia is in charge of containing your nasal liquids, but when it gets cold outside and you breathe that air in, the cilia becomes paralyzed..thus cannot do its duty of containing your liquids. Long story short..out comes the liquid for all to see. This picture does not do my nasal drippage justice..trust me that I leak like a broken faucet.
I do love bundling up and preparing for Christmas with a warm beverage and a snogging buddy…which is usually my cat. I live a very tough life.
Q: What do you love/hate about winter?

Those frosty pics are so perty! Hmm I like winter because of Christmas, snowball fights (that is…when we get actual snow in this weird state haha), and chai tea overdoses! Dislike–Mr winter makes my hands crack and bleed too, I think I’m gonna start telling people it’s beet filled bird poop now though haha 😉
27?!? Holy moly.. that’s coldddd! I love the tattoo on your foot! It doesn’t get too cold here in FL so I actually crave the cold weather!
hmm besides texting, you don’t take pictures in your car while driving. have I not taught you anything. wow I didn’t realize you were starting the winter symptoms already. time for the night time socks on the hands.
^she’s right you know! 🙂

My hands do the same thing! Boo winter…
Oats n' Bows
Ouch of my gosh I have the same problem 😦 I wake up with my lips bleeding sometimes…
I do not like winter at all. 😦 I actually believe I could be diagnosed for SAD because I get more depressed than normal. I hate having to walk around and drive in snow. That’s the worst. I don’t like being snowed in or anything because 1.) No gym. 2.) Me + Hostage in parent’s house = BAD. I’m just not a winter person.
What I do like? Hot cocoa, sweatshirts, scarves, and wrapping myself up in a blanket to watch movies. Also, christmas trees, music, and everything having to do with the holiday except for the ACTUAL day (it’s too hectic).
BTW, i love that mug! I want one but Cheshire Cat addition!
YOUR HAND SCUUUUURED ME. Wow, you must get really dry skin and go from juicy grape to shrivel raisin-like in no time. I thought I had dry skin… USE THAT LOTION.
I love: hot drinks (mainly hot chocolate, with real chocolate and ….. chocolate), soups, and pretending that I am a russian spy and trying to seduce men in the snow. Except, all i ever do is wear my winter jacket with a furry hood and call men that pass by ‘Babooooshka!”. It really is not spy like.
I hate: the cold. the bone-chilling cold.
ps i dig your halloweenie mug. never stop using it!
Dude, I have the mega bad circulation too… cracked bleeding hands, blue lips arrrrrgh I hate the cold (that’s why I moved to Australia!!!) – even though Winter is beautiful + I have experienced my far share of freezing in New Zealand, I much prefer sub-tropical climates. I do miss that whole “snuggling up” thing that Winter brings…. piping hot bowls of soup in front of a roaring fire with copious amounts of mulled wine 🙂 yeeeeeeah.
You’re too cute!
Those pesky cilia, gettin’ all paralyzed and whatnot.
I love/hate winter too, and have TERRIBLE dry skin (even in the summer!). My legs and face are really bad 😦

I love the picture of the frosted leaves!
I hate when my nose starts to run after being in the cold waiting for the bus. It would not stop and it’s so annoying! I also hate waking up early in the morning and it’s freezing outside. It just makes it harder to get up in the morning.
However, I love how Christmas is near and on lazy days, I can just snuggle up in bed and just lay there Haha.

I share similar feelings. And I share similar hands…they get so dry! It’s awfully painful! The only thing I like about the winter is Christmas, January and February can disappear please!
You had me at the reference to birds poo, beets and nasal drippage lol!
I hate cold weather in general but I during winter I do enjoy copious amounts of tea/coffee, big bowls of oatmeal and snuggling under my doona at night 🙂
Living, Learning, Eating
Oh no! Do you eat enough fat? When I started eating more fat, I had less issues with dry skin. 🙂 I love snow, Christmas, bundling up inside with good company and good books, and ice/frost covered nature! This December, I’m loving trying to make NaNeFoMo (National New Food Month, you can grab the button from my sidebar and find out more about participating/winning here: http://living-learning-eating.blogspot.com/2011/11/my-foodie-bucket-list-for-nanefomo.html ) happen! Join me, please? 🙂
I feel ya on the dry hands. Mine get super-dry…I always feel like I’m lotioning them. Other than that, I actually love winter now that I live in Texas. When I lived in Chicago I tolerated winter for the first month or two but once we ran into what felt like the 6th month of winter I started to despise it!
I hope your hands survive the winter! and btw despite the subject of the last pic, it’s a cute photo lol. I dislike winter because i HATE being cold. Of course cold in LA means it’s just a bit under 70 degrees so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining too much…
twin, I feel your pain. Literally, I really do. My hands do the SAME thing in the winter and I always have to put gloves on at night with really thick lotion or vaseline to make them soft again. Soft hands/lips/skin in the winter? psh- forget about it!! and it’s been oober cold here in Michigan too! It was a toasty 33 yesterday… :O
love snuggling with my puggle!!!!!!!!!
(and i wear warm pug slippers to compliment the experience, haha!).
hoping that you can stay warm!
oh, and i also LOVE winter fashion. obsessed since my first (1996) viewing of dr. zhivago! x
I love skiing and snow days and snow and working at a ski resort. I hate when it’s so cold that breathing hurts.
