To be honest my latest trip to LA wasn’t very food oriented.
I know…and no I’m not sick.
I made it a point to try a few “firsts” starting with a trip to Spitz for their unbelievable falafel. I’d walk to LA just to eat that ball of fried chickpea goodness again. Plus I got to stuff my face while meeting new people. This girl is a gem.
As for the treats (aka life as I know it,) the only planned pit stop was a visit to a bakery, and ohhh boy did I visit. Erin Mckenna’s Bakery was formerly known as Babycakes, which I had a negative experience with many moons ago. I’m not one to hold grudges, so I gave them a second chance.
This was a good move on my part.
I got chocolate all over my face with those treats, I had zero shame.
Another local discovery was a post run acai bowl, $11 worth of fruity goodness. I’m glad the bowl was good, because my interaction with the cashier was less than stellar.
“Does your granola have nuts?”
“We have gluten free oats.”
“OK, but does it have nuts?”
“It’s gluten free.”
“NUTS ARE NOT GLUTEN SHOW ME THE GRANOLA!”
I digress…
I spent more time making food than I did exploring new to me places, and I was OK with that. After a trip to a California pumpkin patch (which is nothing more than a plot of land with hot sun beating on your face and pumpkins placed atop hay, sorry CA, WA has you beat here) a new recipe was created with a white pumpkin.
I also found my future tiny home, which was cool.
In all reality I didn’t eat out a lot because I spent all my money on one banana at Disneyland. It’s OK Disney, I forgive you for your overpriced produce.
I then spent 1/3 of that on a banana twice the size the very next day.
Gotta love amusement park prices. Hanger makes you do crazy things.
Q: Would you pay $2 for a small banana? I’m not proud of this.

I’d say for not trying many eats you had some pretty good stuff! I love the GF convo. I’m totally going to use that to mess with people, haha. I would have paid the $2 if it was the only healthy option, which I’m guessing was the case… that or $1.50 for fries… priorities, obviously! Can’t wait for the video 🙂
danaelizabethx
Everything looks so yummy!! 🙂 idk if I’d pay $2 for a banana – I hope it was worth it!
Anthony
Love your adventures and love your pictures. Keep up the good work and the good blogging.
Anthony
And yeah….in times of need (hangover and starvation being one of them) I would spend quite a bit of money on a banana–Check out the Japan banana vending machine.
Brittany
OH MY, what an awesome vending machine! I must visit one of these.
Anthony
Did you see a picture of it, or a video? If you haven’t, I will send you a link.
Lindsay @ A Runnaroundd Life
I’ve paid more on food in Disney than I care to admit. But you just gotta do it and move on, haha. That tiny pumpkin house is sorta the cutest thing ever! I’m taking a trip to CA next year and I’m so excited!!
Jessica
Answer? Yes, I would spend $2 on a banana. Say what you will.
Brittany
Clearly I would too, so…no shame. HA.
literaturemistress
Haha – that probably depends on my other options. If there aren’t any…maybe.
Angie
Sounds like a good trip! Yes, I’ll pay that much for bananas — especially apple bananas! I’ve actually paid almost any price for fruit. It’s good food, and supplies nutrients for my body and health, and I’d gladly spend money on that than on any material items. 😉
Brittany
Amen my friend, all my money goes to food. HA.
whostardis
there is an erin’s bakery at downtown disney orlando that i was avoiding because i thought it was all hyped up…might have to give it a try next time im there! that granola looks legit good…but were there nuts 😉 oh disney and your overpriced EVERYTHING i just cant quit you…ill be there TOMORROW!!!
Brittany
Sooo…I totally thought when I read there was a bakery in Downtown Disney, that it was in California. I actually planned all trip to go there after Disneyland, only to find it was in Florida and not California. SO we went on a hunt for a California location. HA.
whostardis
I’ve done that before but opposite lol tricky disney
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I most certainly would pay $2 for a banana, and have done so at Disneyland as well 😛 I’m actually pretty sure I spent an insane amount on bananas in Hawaii as well, and it’s like… aren’t these things grown locally?!?!
Jess @hellotofit
LOL I’m not ashamed of what hanger has done to me in the past…e.g. paying $13 for a gross-obviously-came-from-frozen chicken tenders and fries basket at the basketball stadium…
Amy
Ohh man, that granola dialogue… Another blogger recently shared a comment that was left on her recipe (made with almond milk and coconut oil). The commenter rudely complained that the recipe was NOT actually dairy-free because, “It contains eggs! How can you call a recipe dairy-free that contains eggs??” Gotta love those non-foodies of the world… 😉 I definitely want to visit that bakery AND Disneyland sometime soon!!
Brittany
Oh man, those comments are just ridiculous!!
Ellie
Well I’m actually impressed for that price at Disneyland. Not that I would pay it (when I go to Disneyland anything I eat must be mouse shaped). Falafels are SO GOOD! Have you ever had the waffle falafel?
Brittany
I have NOT, but I would GO APE on one. I’ve seen them on cooking channel…haha.
P
Oh Spitz…Gigi was right, I was dreaming about it that night, haha. 😛
Did you ever make it out to Gracias Madre though?
Brittany
I did not!! I must make it next time, MUST!
GiGi Eats Celebrities
BAH HA HA HA HA! I TOLD YOU!!!!
allisonfiorini
I was salivating over the falafel until I got to the dessert display. Hi, my name is Allison and I want to be your friend in real life so we can go eating together. K thanks. 🙂 Looks like you had a great trip!
Brittany
Let’s eat, and then you can make me run fast! 😉
allisonfiorini
I like it! Yes!
Rach @ This Italian Family
I would pay $2 for a banana if it were the difference between me being a nice person or not, ha! I’ve definitely spent more $$ on food than I would like because I realized I forgot to pack a snack and my blood sugar level started dropping. I’m with you there!
That pumpkin house is crazy adorable! I loved it when I saw you posted it to Instagram (or was that Facebook? I don’t remember – I saw it on your social media somewhere, haha!). Super cute!
I am SO excited to see the video of you and Gigi cooking together! Is it fair for you two to be in one picture together? Too much gorgeousness!
Bradley on the Run
In Disney’s defence, it’s a good sized banana. A little worse for wear…
Did the granola have nuts or not? How could someone not…gluten=nuts? So confused…
Your posts always make me smile.
Brittany
That’s the banana I got the next day for much cheaper…the Disney banana was 1/3 that size. HAHA. Thank you for reading!
Sophie33
IT looks that you had a fabulous time over there. 😀
Nicola
Few years back the banana crop in Aus was destroyed by a hurricane. Prices went up to $18 a kilo which is at least $5 per banana if not more. They still disappeared! Guess people just loooove bananas
fionajarrett
Awesome little pumpkin house! So impressed by the creativity and effort that went into making that. Speaking of inspirational, white pumpkin pie… can’t wait for the recipe 😀
Christina Does It All
“In all reality I didn’t eat out a lot because I spent all my money on one banana at Disneyland.” Hahahhaha.
I also love your future tiny home.
Christina Does It All
Ps I just emailed you
Josh dV
More good times eh? Oh but the places you go!
Disneyland bananas…they are still bananas and yes I’d pay for one if I was not carrying food on hand, though that’s not likely as I am ALWAYS EATING….
I dig the pumpkin house though.
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy
$2 for a banana? That is crazy! But then, I would rather spend that on something that I like and isn’t going to make me feel like crap, rather than spend that on junk food.
Allie Zottola
LOL at your future home, I love it! Amusement park food prices are always crazy! I just try to accept and it remember I don’t have to deal with it every day!
milkandbun
Oh! So much yummy food! 😀
GiGi Eats Celebrities
Disney is so inappropriate. That banana looks like something you might find in a “shop” in West Hollywood. However… THOSE are NOT $2… SO consider your “banana” … CHEAP!
That. Is. All.
Brittany
The only pleasure obtained from my Disney banana (which is not this one in the photo) was the quelling of my hunger pangs. My loin pain still pangs. Hahahahaaa
Jade
But Disney fruit is superior to other fruit. I don’t know how that banana was but their melons and grapes are the best things I’ve ever had.
Brittany
Honestly…that banana DID taste really freaking good…but the size was less than worth the price. The one in this photo wasn’t the Disney banana. Owell though, I happily ate it.
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
Oy. I probably would spend that if I were trying to be healthy…but knowing that I spend 19cents on each at TJ’s would make it even more painful. That falafel looks so good! And those baked goods…man oh man. At least CA tries to be festive! It can’t hold a candle to Midwestern pumpkin patches though 🙂
Brittany
I think of TJ’s bananas EVERY TIME I see one for more than 30 cents….I’m like no.
rockmyvegansocks
I love Southern California! The restaurants are awesome =) I haven’t tried Spitz – I’ll have to check it out next time I’m there.
And my first experience with Baby Cakes was also less than stellar (I showed up after flying from Northern California and they were closed despite their website claiming they were still open, I was not impressed). My second visit was much better.
“I got chocolate all over my face with those treats, I had zero shame.”
YES!
Shawna
haha nuts and gf = nahhhht the same question. i wanna go to LA! love me some SoCal. sounds like a fun trip! i buy my nanners from the street corner fruit guy and they’re 5 for $1 (but he usually will throw me 6 bc we’re cool like that and the bundles always seem to be 6 lately), so $2 for 1 lil guy isn’t my fave option…buttttt i prob would and prob have.
Brittany
Right!?! 0.19 cents at Trader Joe’s man!!! You just can’t beat that…
Kat
You would think with how much disney robs you to get in, they would take it down a notch with the food prices. NOPE – that crap is even worse. Isnt it like, $5 for a churro? You know, the ones that take like $.5 worth of ingredients to make? Ridiculous!
Diane @ Life of Di.
I’ve paid one dollar for a banana before; however, I’m not sure if I’d pay two. I think if I was desperate for something healthy. 😉 Also, I’m so jealous of your trip to Disney. I haven’t been in ten years but would love to take Charlotte and Marty (he’s never been) at some point!
stateeats
Well, another thought, you could’ve spent $12 on some crappy cheesy fries and soda, so at least you ate healthy! And that cashier needs some edumacation -Kat
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Sometimes only a banana will do, $2.15 be damned. 🙂
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness
Ohhh I love a good falafel too! The best is when it’s in a fresh, warm, deeeelicious pita that you don’t find just anywhere.
Haha, laughing at your comment about CA pumpkin patches… I swear that the pumpkin patch that I went to near me is an actual pumpkin patch where pumpkins are grown! 🙂
brugesvegan
lovely photos of the pumpkins!
And yes, some people really have no idea about the difference between Gluten(free) and vegan. Really!
