I’m a snow hater. I think snow is gorgeous when it coats the mountains, or the trees near a cabin in the woods, but I hate when it blankets the streets near my house. I don’t know why, possibly because I’m too proud to ever call into work unless I am dying, and driving in the snow gives me premature hemorrhoids. That’s a joke, but you get the idea.
When it snows and I have to drive (OK so I never HAVE to) my knuckles grip the wheel so hard they match the snow. I am one of few in my clan of friends and family, because most people around me get just as excited about snow now as they did when they were 12.
When it snowed Sunday morning, my plans to go out were quickly changed. I got 2 minutes from my house and saw multiple cars in ditches, one sticking almost straight up.
You better believe I turned right around and planted my fanny back in the safety of my house. Then I grabbed my jacket, my boots, and my camera. Snow may irritate and scare me, but it sure is pretty. The perfect excuse for some photography.
This elementary school was the perfect spot to experiment with the ISO of my new camera. It’s like night and day (literally) with the different settings of light exposure.
I stumbled upon some old pallets sitting in a yard, and this turned out to be my favorite shot. I am a sucker for all things wood!
I had no where I had to be until 7 that night, so I made peace with the snow and enjoyed the beauty around my neighborhood. Until next time snow…this time you win.
Quite frankly though, I am ready for spring. My skin can’t handle any more of this dry air!
Q: Do you like the snow?

Love the fire hydrant. Beautiful post. Beautiful you!
kathy @ vodka and soda
living in this frozen tundra, i can honestly say that i hate the snow. and this winter, we have SO MUCH of it. i can take the winter weather if we have some breaks but this year? mother nature is giving us the big ol’ finger and not letting up at all. if’ it’s not snowing, we have freezing rain. if it’s not either of those, it’s -20 temps like this morning. what gives?! /endrant.
Ashley
Pretty pictures! I love the snow because it gives me an excuse to be lazy inside!

Gorgeous shots, lady. And I love how you made the best out of a potentially annoying situation. I don’t mind the snow (being Canadian, I’ve gotten used to it), but it definitely throws a wrench into things like driving and being outside. At least it’s good to snowboard on 🙂
Laura
Me too! I love snow except when I have to leave my house…
gabrieleneumann
I’m like you, snow is pretty over there, but the idea of driving in it is horrifying. Lovely photos!
Kadee-Cat
If snow could just be a dear and land everywhere but the roads maybe we could be friends. Also, perhaps just a small trail leading to a warm/dry spot for my dog to use the restroom? Nothing fancy..
Love your pictures, especially the fire hydrant! 😀
Britta
I don’t love snow. I like snow on mountain tops, at Christmas and when I am going skiing. There is a time and a place for snow.. which is why I also live in Vancouver 😉 Basically it should snow Christmas Eve and Day for ecstatic appeal and then it should be gone!
I am soooo glad you went back home and took pictures. I had an accident driving to school (in high school) in snowy conditions and since then I am TERRIFIED of driving in snow. Gah, not my thing. I even get nervous when other people drive in snow and I am a passenger. I am so ready for spring too, I put a humidifier in my room and leave it on over night because my skin is so dry, blech.
And I think you should become a professional photographer. Lovin’ all the pictures! Beautiful.
Brittany
HEEEELLLLNAWWW to that accident. I would be forever scarred. AH! How cool would that be to get paid for photos…hmmm…HMMMM..big fat HMMMM!!!
Humidifier…genius.

Ok, you need to come to MI and see the snow… total I think we have gotten over 6 feet. There is about 3 on the ground – basically, I am over winter. And I HATE driving in it!!! oh my, that is something that you have to do here b/c it snows all the time, but I have already spun out and dented my car by slamming into a curb. And I have gotten stuck once and had to have Mr Speedy resuce me and shovel me out 😦 I tried to convince him that I should just quit driving in the winter and be a stay at home fiance, but that didn’t work.
Sigh. Your shots are gorgeous and one thing I do love about snow and winter- the stillness and quiteness of it all. Snow falls…. silently. I like that.
di @ life of di.
What!? You hate snow?? Finally something we don’t have in common 😉 I absolutely LOVE the snow (though it is starting to be a bit much here in Ohio!) I love the way the neighborhood looks when it is blanketed in snow. Everything seems a litle bit more quiet and peaceful. Great pictures by the way!!
Brittany
HAH! Our twin streak has been broken!! I will admit the quiet and peacefulness of snow is wonderful…but…I want it gone the next day!
Amy @ A Desert Girl
I can’t decide if I love the hydrant picture or the wooden pallets picture more. I don’t have to choose, right? I don’t like driving in the snow either. Fortunately, I don’t have to very often…but even the slightest powder still makes me nervous.
Brittany
NO, you don’t have to choose!! I love those both the most too!
jessiebearwhat
Completely agree- I f’n hate the snow but it sure is pretty from inside my cozy apartment 😉

I love the snow when work closes, and this year we’ve had quite a bit of that. I love the snow when it looks white and pretty, but it always turns gray and dirty pretty quick.
Alex @ therunwithin
I can see someone is really into her camera 🙂 A good thing for sure
Ashlee@HisnHers
You might have almost froze but at least you got some great pictures! im a sucker for old wood too. My friend makes a lot of furniture, etc out of old pallets, and most recently he made a bar out of one sideways. Pretty cool!
Amalia
I love the snow now… but that’s cause I live somewhere where it snows maybe twice a year, and the rest of the time I don’t have to deal with it. I used to hate it, when I lived where it was -40 all the time.
Her Happy Balance
I think snow is beautiful too, especially when you can watch it fall while sitting inside by a fire. But having to travel and get to work in it is treacherous. We’re supposed to get 14 inches over night and during Thursday so I am kind of over it. Beautiful pictures though! I like the fire hydrant one.
cleaneatingveggiegirl
You may hate the snow, but your snow pictures sure are pretty!!! 🙂
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I hate snow, love these pictures of the snow! I had to drive from kentucky to Minnesota last week for a surgery last week and the roads were horrible. It was so stressful seeing all the accidents while trying to slowly creep along. If I had been able to turn around like you I would have. Home is much safer than dangerous roads.
katalysthealth
Because I live in LA, Ive never woken up to snow. Ive never had to drive in it or walk in it. Shoot, we rarely get rain here for crying out loud. That being said, I think my feelings for snow would match yours. I love it, I think its gorgeous and I would love to sit inside and watch the snow fall with a big old blanket and mug of coffee, but I would NOT want to go out in it and drive!!
Choc Chip Uru
You make me love snow even more 😀
I guess I don’t know its reality because I have never lived in it!
Cheers

That’s great you were able to make peace with the snow—some amazing pictures came out of it 😀
Amy
You are SO brave to go out in the snow!!! Especially because of the Renaud’s… I’m in awe. I’ve sworn that I’ll never live any place it snows because right now, even though our house is 65° and it’s partly cloudy outside, my toes are still tingling with cold. Gah! So I bet you totally know my answer to your question… No, I do NOT like snow! (But I’ll agree it’s pretty!)
You’re really getting good with your new camera!! Your shots all look so artistic, and my favorite is the yellow hydrant. With that as the only color in the shot, and with the snow on top of it just fading into the snowy ground behind it, the hydrant really pops. So pretty!!!
Catherine @ A Two Storey Home
Gorgeous photos! I am really itching for a new/real camera. This inspires me. I do like the snow, as long as I can watch it from my warm living and only go out in it for as little or long as I want. Glad you decided to stay home 😀
Life After Swimming
I hate winter, but in my opinion, if it is going to be cold, it might as well snow. I am miserable in the cold, so it gives me a reason to stay inside!
Melissa @ Al Forno Mementos
the wood one is my favorite as well. I think it has to do with the colors and the way you set your camera. love it.
Luv What You Do
I like snow when I am indoors in front of the fireplace with some hot cocoa (or bubbles) and a good book. I HATE driving in it! But that hasn’t been much of an option this winter. I can’t believe you guys got snow!!!
apartmentwife
gotta tella ya – i love the snow. it’s a good thing too, since i live in minneapolis:) i grew up in phoenix, so i think the snow charms me – i didn’t see it until i was 22 and i’m just kind of in awe of it. i know what you mean about driving though – i slip and skid and hope hope hope i make it home okay. but… snow day worked out well for you- love that hydrant shot!
Davida @The Healthy Maven
No. I hate snow. I live in Canada. It makes no sense. I’m moving south or west or to mexico TOMORROW.
PNWRunner
Snow snow snow go away, come again next winter. I am counting down until Spring comes. The dry weather is terrible, my hair is dry, skin and nails. Ugh! Your photos are beautiful!
ahellams
I love the snow, I think it is so magical. However, I would like one side of the street with snow on it, the other side nice and clear so I can actually run. Training for this race is almost impossible this winter!! Ready to be back in the South!
karla @ finding my fit
loving all these pictures with the new camera. i was so excited to use my tax return to get one but in an effort to work on being a better adult with a budget, I am postponing for now =(
i am so over this winter and cold. especially cause it’s now made me incredibly ill. just give me blankets, netflix and tea.
Rach @ This Italian Family
These pictures are all so pretty, Britt! You are really improving already!
Missy
Your pics!!!
I am loving what you are doing with your new camera, really fantastic!
Missy
Oh — and we have no snow down here. And beaches. You can come photograph with me maybe? I will send my magic unicorn and have you back in 24 hours.
Lauren
Hmmm….I like the snow from December 1-25th. Then, it can leave. This year, we’ve had an abundance of it and I’m so far over it. I need to see green grass again. Like ASAP!
An Unrefined Vegannnie
Good for you for getting out there and enjoying the snow! I’m quite done with winter, but needless to say, it has its own agenda.
Katherine
Girl, come down to Texas! It’s 80 degrees and sunny out! That being said, your pictures are gorgeous! You found so much joy and beauty in the ordinary, and it’s stunning!
Christina Does It All
Eeee your pictures are so beautiful, lady! I like snow in theory….but I live in Texas and even when it’s super duper cold it doesn’t like to snow haha.
jessielovestorun
Not a fan of snow – and thankfully for me… snow doesn’t exist in Kuwait! SCORE 🙂 Stay safe, girl!

You can easily get your SPRING FIX…. By coming to Los Angeles.
But seriously – NO PRESSURE. LMFAO!
kelly @ racesrepsramblings
I love snow and snow sports, but honestly I wish winter was just a tiny bit shorter. And now that I moved south where there is less cold… I am quite a bit happier 😉
Meredith
I can’t stand snow either, but you are so positive about it! I need to be more like that…you made a great day out of it and took beautiful photos! I am more of a ‘stay on the couch with tea and hibernate’ kind of gal. I need to snap out of it, thanks for motivating me!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Well at least you got to play with your new camera. Way to embrace the moment. The fire hydrant shot is a real winner.
