Posted at 7:52 AM by Brittany, on August 30, 2013

If anyone ever tells you that you need cheese on your pizza, look them straight in the eye and say, “NO, cheese clogs your colon!” Actually I happen to love cheese, I just don’t eat it these days. I promise I don’t judge those that do, but I think making pizza without cheese forces you to be more creative with your flavor combinations. I’ve had my fair share of vegan pizzas before and each time I do the flavor combinations get a little more wild.

When deciding what to make for dinner the other night, I suddenly remembered I had some walnut cream sauce left from my dinner last week. Pizza immediately popped into my head as a way to finish up the sauce. BOOM. The only problem was that I didn’t have any yeast on deck, and I didn’t want to drive to the store just for that. To be honest I just didn’t want to use the yeast period..so I didn’t! This yeast free dough turned out great!

    20130828-185653

    Yeast Free Pizza Dough

    • 2.5 cups whole wheat (or all purpose) flour
    • 2 3/4 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp sea salt
    • 1 tblsp olive oil
    • 1 cup of water (possible a skosh more)

    20130828-185710

Mix your dry ingredients together and then add in your water and oil. I used a fork for maybe 5 seconds before getting my hands in there and rolling the dough around until it was well combined. Knead the dough on a floured surface for a few minutes and then roll out onto baking tray (I used a pizza stone) and top with desired ingredients!

I topped mine with the walnut sauce, spinach, rosemary potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts, roasted beets, chopped green onions and not photographed nutritional yeast. For my veggies I roasted each of them before topping my pizza dough, the pizza will only take about 20 minutes at 400F so you want these veggies already cooked for the most part. The potatoes were roasted with the rosemary prior to topping the pizza.

    20130828-185720

This pizza hit the spot, and even my non vegan family members gave it two thumbs up. The best part? Leftovers for lunch! Somehow leftovers make me just as excited.

    20130828-185705

Q: What’s your favorite pizza topping? Potatoes are essential for me on pizza.

Love this! True there are LOTS of reasons why dairy is unhealthy. I use a combo of garbonzo bean flour and tapioca flour instead of wheat in my yeast free crust and it’s heavenly.

I have never had potatoes on a pizza?! And leftover pizza is the best thing EVER. Usually leftovers kind of make me queezy but pizza is one of the things which tastes BETTER a day after you make it! My favorite pizza topping is onions and blue cheese! 😀 Mmm stinky cheese!

That’s a beautiful pizza! If it weren’t for cheese, I’m sure I could be a full-time vegan. I try! But cheese. The worst part is that I’m not even supposed to have it because my system can’t handle it very well in large (pizza-size) portions.

      The potato topping thing is new to me, but some friends of ours have a pizza oven and make a pizza with potato on it that is SO good. As for me? I like pineapple. :}

You are so creative! This looks like a gourmet masterpiece. I usually opt for mushroom pizza, but I like chicken marsala pizza a lot too. I think arugala is a great and underrated pizza topping as well 🙂 And now I must go eat! Haha 🙂

I agree. Hold the cheese or at least most of it! Sometimes when we make homemade pizza on the grill I’ll add a little bit of mozzarella cheese. Essential items: hot Italian sausage, turkey “pepperoni”, or any kind of meet. Pesto is my favorite sauce right now. I never thought about putting potatoes on it. What a fabulous idea!!

I love that you put potatoes on a pizza! That is one of the most random toppings I’ve seen. I used to work at an Italian restaurant and one of the managers used to always have broccoli on her pizza – propped up like bushes – to make sure she got more veggies into her meal!
My favourite pizzas are always filled with veggies and a dab of pesto, and a slash of goats cheese. Mmmmmmmmmmmm!

Seriously….. B & B must happen. I told Speedy about my plan and was like ‘HONEY SERIOUSLY- have you heard of a haven for runners, vegans, or athletic souls who want to relax but still get their sweat in?’ and he was hooked. I think we are on to something. You should start selling these pizzas to begin our nest fund and I will start modeling nude again or selling gold tulle decorations to add to it.

I figure in about approximately 30-56 years we will have enough and live like queens and open the most fabulous va-cay house known on the planet.

I looooooooove pineapple on my pizza. or purple onions. they be good.

There’s a place here that has a mashed potato and bacon pizza (creamy sauce instead of tomato sauce). I haven’t tried it since I wasn’t eating meat then but it blew everyone’s mind.
