Working in a coffee shop means I get to work around drool worthy baked goods all day long. I have been lusting over the blueberry scone at Starbucks since it was first launched a few weeks ago as apart of the new La Boulange treats. This scone is made with dairy, so I took the inspiration and baked my own dairy free scones!
I took my scones up a notch though and added orange zest and squeezed an orange on top, with some sugar for a crumbly finish. Craving satisfied! If you look close you’ll see the zest!
I used a pre-made flour base so I don’t have a recipe for you, but perhaps this post will inspire you to bake some scones to have with your morning coffee! I had just purchased some fresh organic blueberries that were on sale, it must have been fate!
If all else fails, there is a Starbucks on every corner and you can go buy a blueberry scone from them, I hear they are delicious! I bring some home to my mom anytime I can! Bringing home scones for my family means I get to eat more of these scones, win win!
I still had plenty of blueberries left after making these scones, and decided to throw some in with a bowl of quinoa. From there I added some pistachios and topped it all off with some lime juice! SO simple, but so delicious!
I don’t have a recipe for this either because I just eyeballed everything. I used a half cup of (pre)cooked quinoa (which comes out to be more like a full cup after the quinoa is cooked,) around 3/4 cup of blueberries, and around 1/2 cup shelled salted pistachios. Squeeze as much lime (or lemon, or ORANGE!) on top as you desire!
I LOVE blueberries, so perfect for summer.
Q: What’s your favorite flavor scone?

THese look awesome!! I love scones. Chocolate chip is by far my favorite.

Holy mylanta! These look amazing. Could you just ship one my way?? I’m totally impressed your scone wizardry! I don’t know if I’ve even had enough scones in my life to know what my favorite is – but everything is better with blueberries! 🙂
Oh I LOVE scones…and I have tried the Starbucks Blueberry scone and it was totally amazing, as I had anticipated! I LOVE blueberry scones, but since I have this new found lemon craving for everything that I eat, I wonder if there is a lemon scone recipe out there? That would be interesting to try 🙂
There is a recipe for EVERYTHING out there! Lemon scones are AMAZING!! Check out Google or Pinterest, they have endless recipes!! You could even just use a basic scone recipe and add AS MUCH lemon juice as you want (well almost haha you don’t want soupy scones!!!!) I would rub the juice on top too like I did with the orange on these..SO GOOD!
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because
1) These look AMAZING and
2) When I read “blissful blueberries,” I immediately thought of this: http://youtu.be/yqEeP1acj4Y
IT’S STILL FUNNY
HAHAHAHA OMG I have never seen that video before!! I DIED!! Especially when it was put into slow motion, ANYTHING in slow motion is 10x funnier..HAHahaHAHA.
Angela @ Health's Angel
Both of these creations look incredible! I love scones- especially with orange flavor/zest.
Her Happy Balance
I never think to go the sweet route with quinoa, I always make it savory with veggies and cheese. Love the simplicity to it though. And fresh squeezed citrus in the summer is a must. The lime and blueberry kind of has me craving an adult beverage…
I made pumpkin scones like a year ago and they were AWESOME. It was my first time making scones and I was pretty proud of myself they came out looking like a scone! Haha! At least being vegan saves you the money of constantly buying all of the baked goods at Sbucks. You make me want to get a job at one!
I’m exactly the same…I eyeball everything, then can never re-create my masterpieces again afterwards! GAH!
Your blueberry scones look amaaazzzzing! 🙂
Mmmm blueberry scones are my FAVORITE!! Although cinnamon chip is a close second 😉 I love anything with blueberry, though, especially when you add lemon or orange zest…definitely takes things over the top 🙂
Rach @ This Italian Family
Oh Britt, I LOVE blueberry scones! They are SO delicious! Yours look amazing!
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
Chocolate chip is my favorite type of scone. All about the sweets. 🙂 Your blueberry scones look awesome. That’s so nice that you get to take home Starbucks goodies for the fam! Love Bucks!
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
Oh these sound good! I think the blueberry and pistachio quinoa sounds amazing! I love anything with pistachio and blueberries and what a great idea to combine the two.
Alex @ therunwithin
gosh those scones look beautiful! I just love blueberries, in anything, or alone.
Amy @ A Desert Girl
Love seeing the orange zest in the scone! Yum yum. The quinoa looks sooo good.
Yum yum yum, I have a bunch of lemons laying around at home right now and have been a zesting machine too!
I don’t have a favorite scone, but that salad idea is genius! What a great way to eat fresh and beat the heat. Thanks for the idea!
Oh now I’m craving scones! I don’t remember the last time I had one, but omg I love them! I think my fondest scone memories are of the ones I had in England. They were plain, but with that thick clotted cream and fresh jam? Nothing better. Period. I’m going to have to make some of my own. Blueberry ones sound AWESOME! I eat so many blueberries, I’m kind of waiting for my skin to turn blue… if carrots can make you turn orange, why can’t blueberries make your turn blue? 😉
I think raspberry chocolate chips scones would be awesome too! Or lemon poppyseed! Maybe even cherry orange! I used to make cherry orange muffins all the time and they were amazing. I know cranberry orange is the more “classic” flavor, but fresh cranberries just aren’t sweet enough for me! Oh to have a sweet tooth…
Okay, I think I’ve rambled enough! But I’ve just got to say that that quinoa looks awesome too! I love the sweet spin on it (no surprise there haha). I’ve seen lots of recipe for breakfast quinoa but have never actually tried it. I guess if oats can be breakfast, quinoa deserves a chance too haha. Okay, rambling OFFICIALLY over!
ok…. don’t make fun of me but i have never ate a scone before. I dont know if this means i am a hermit or lame or not from england, but perhaps i need to go to starbucks and buy myself one.
blueberrrrrries are de best. have you seen the ‘you forgot the blueberries’ youtube video??? if you haven’t, please watch it now.
¡Ay, qué horror! I cannot believe this!! I must make you scones..and bring them to your wedding. Yes..but until then please buy yourself a scone next time you go to Starbucks!
You are awesome!! I am LOVING blueberries right now :).
di @ life of di.
1) I love scones! 2) I cannot seem to get enough blueberries this summer. I seriously have been using them in all of my meals – yogurt, oats, salads, cereals! I love when fruits and vegetables are in season. There is nothing better! 3) I like the idea of making your own scones (though I have never done it before – I’d like to) since you know what is actually put into them 🙂
Life After Swimming
Cinnamon scones are the best things ever. And I totally see the zest. It looks so good.
Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles
yum, those look delicious! i’m a big fan of blueberry chocolate chip scones. Would love one right now!!
Ahh I’ve never had a scone!! What is wrong with me!? Loooove blueberries soo much- but never thought to pair them with quinoa.
Michelle @ Eat Move Balance
Can you believe I don’t like scones!?! But I LOVE blueberries. 🙂 I’ve been buying them in 2 lb containers every time I spot them.
Yes, those Starbucks scones are amazing (or Starbucks anything, really….). Yours look better though, because anything homemade is a FTW type situation! 🙂 Blueberry anything is awesome but your quinoa creation is definitely unique. I love it but how were you able to use uncooked quinoa for a salad like that? Because it soaked up in the lime juice? Super creative!
Such a great question about the quinoa, I can see where I went wrong with describing my portions. I did cook the quinoa, but what I was meaning is that it’s half a cup of uncooked quinoa (which you will then cook) but because it expands once it’s cooked I wanted to be sure people knew that I meant half a cup BEFORE it was cooked. I didn’t clarify that very well…so I updated the “recipe.”
Oh duh I’m the moron. Thanks girl!
Change of Pace
Wow- those look divine! And your quinoa looks pretty darn tasty, too! We’ve been trying to eat more quinoa, so I should make this!
To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever had a scone! Is that a sin?!
I LOVE blueberries! Or any berry for that matter. Your creations sounds great!
Also, Starbucks needs to get vegan/gf baked goods.
AGREED! There is only ONE item in their pastry case that I can eat. It is delicious though…haha.
Choc Chip Uru
You read my mind, this was exactly what I wanted for breakfast 😀
Those look gorgeous — blueberry would probably be my fave!!!
Good looking freaking scones…so not cool i am trying to break the habit of eating them!!! Cinnamon chip ones are the bomb…dairy free, that is kinda cool though!
Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani)
MMmm I love any kind of scones as long as jam & clotted cream are involved :)! I’ve never tried the Starbucks scones but I LOVE their skinny blueberry muffins- so freakin’ yum!
Eating 4 Balance
I just love the look of scones. And the look of blueberries. So basically I’m just drooling all over this post 😉 I actually have two favorite flavors of scones! 🙂 English Royalty Chocolate Chip Scones: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/english-royalty-chocolate-chip-scones/ They are super simple to make and the combination of orange juice and chocolate is amazing. Those would be super easy to make vegan because there is already no eggs I think. My second favorite would be these from Live Laugh Eat which unfortunately use eggs but look utterly delicious nonetheless: http://www.livelaugheat.com/2011/04/09/double-sunflower-seed-scones/
foods for the soul
My favorite scone flavor (today, at least) is M&M! 😉 But I’m always a fan of blueberry too. And peach, or strawberry, or apple, or cherry, or cranberry, or chocolate chip, or… Just about anything with fruit or chocolate!
I totally did a post on blueberries today too!! We must be sistas, doing it for ourselves.
I still love the blueberry quinoa, and your scones are making me crave baked goods. Sounds like a perfect Saturday morning project.
Those scones look amazing! Starbucks bloob scones are the best 🙂
Wow! Those look awesome and delicious. I am a sucker for “summer fruits” like blueberries and strawberries. I eat them all year long.
I think if I worked at Starbucks, I’d be hopped up on sweets and iced coffee all day long. It might require an intervention.
The Healthy Flavor
Damn those look so good and so fancy! I want to just eat the dough itself, haha! I can imagine how tempting it must be to work at Starbucks all day long, omg!!
Your scones look lovely, especially with the specks of orange.
Blueberry scones are classic but I love ones with craisins and choco chips too :)!
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
Your scones look great! Blueberries aren’t my favourite berry but they are definitely near the top! Your quinoa bowl is totally intriguing, what a great idea! I love that you put lime juice on it!
My aunts scone recipe (that I stole) is to die for but it has buttermilk in it. I also have a good pumpkin one and I know we both love pumpkin!! I’m gonna try your blueberry one, I have never really tried vegan things but I’m pretty amenable to anything that comes out of the oven! 🙂

I picked the perfect time to pop by.. I adore blueberries and scones and here they are together:D I have often seen baking at Starbucks and aim to Kopykat every single one, but I never seem to get through the entire baking selection, lol! I’ve made their gingerbread loaf.. and now I want to try the blueberry scones!!
Luv What You Do
Yum all of those blueberries make me so happy!!!
I don’t often eat scones, but I did make Irish soda bread scones one year and they were fantastic!
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Those look delicious!!! I wish I wasn’t allergic to Quinoa otherwise I’d be making these for sure 🙂
There is something sooooo stinking wonderful about a scone. ahhh, I love them. When I saw the quinoa, blueberry picture on instagram I almost died…. DELICIOUS and so summery 😀 YUM. Nothing better than fresh fruit in the summer!
Holly @ My Plant-Based Family
Drool-worthy! Check you and your mad baking skills out! That is all for my gangsta talk. I will not admit to the delicious treats I’ve had recently from Starbucks. 🙂

Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
MMmmmm Blueberries! I love frozen ones in my shakes year around, but fresh plump ones are the BEST! I can go through a pint in a day if I’m not careful, haha. Those scones (both yours and SB) look delish 🙂
An Unrefined Vegan
Scones with chocolate chips. Or maybe with cinnamon and pecans. Quite possibly with lemon and blueberries. Gee, I sure do like scones.
I’m with you on loving blueberries – so perfect for Summertime.
And those scones look amazing and now I’m totally craving one – I can’t even remember the last time I had one, but I’m so in the mood for one now.
And I also need to try quinoa with blueberries. Sounds amazing.
I love blueberries! They are hands down my favorite thing ever…….and those scones look to die for. Thanks for the ungodly craving. 🙂
Unf, blueberries are downright sexy. I want them alllll.
ummmm scones. heck yes. love love love them. ESPECIALLY the blueberry orange combo! oh or the cranberry orange combo. oh or lemon and coconut.

Melissa @ Mouthwatering Morsel
