Posted at 11:25 AM by Brittany, on December 1, 2012

This week I went to Victoria, BC. This is partially why I have been MIA for almost a week.

    Iphone 041

I saw a lot of gorgeous architecture.

    Parliament

    Parliament

    The Empress Hotel

    The Empress Hotel

    Random building in tourist town

    Random building in tourist town

I ate a LOT of good food. I wanted to ensure that I experienced Victoria for their food, and didn’t want to eat anything I could eat in my hometown. I found a flyer for a vegan restaurant and asked two locals how to get there. 20 minutes later I was eating some amazing vegan food.

    Iphone 069

    That cake was so good

    That cake was so good

I stumbled upon the most amazing Mexican cafe after deviating from the tourist area.

    Iphone 128

    Iphone 126

This burrito was almost $10, but it was so incredibly heavy and stuffed with so much amazingness, I had to save 1/4 for later. SO.GOOD.

I needed something sweet to wash it down, so I found another cafe that sold vegan brownies.

    Iphone 118

Unfortunately, this brownie lacked in flavor and "kapow!"

Unfortunately, this brownie lacked in flavor and “kapow!”

I also stumbled upon the tea store I see all over the Candian bloggers pages. There are only like 4 of these in the states, but the closest to me is California. It was more fun to see it in Canada anyway.

I sampled that sleigh ride tea, SO GOOD!

I sampled that sleigh ride tea, SO GOOD!

Canadian friends I need your help..what is this?

    Iphone 105

It was some kind of squishy looking fruit. It almost looked like lychee.

The main part of this getaway was to “relax.” I spent WAYY too much money on a hot stone massage, but I tried it once and now I know.

    Iphone 085

I came home with a small bottle of  Canadian maple syrup, and I can’t wait to give it a test drive on some pancakes or waffles. Or maybe I can just drink it straight from the bottle.

I loved this town. It was calm, quiet, simple, and the location was gorgeous. The cafe’s and food were perfect and I never struggled to find good food. What better way to experience a new area than by tasting it? See ya soon Canada!

    Iphone 107

Q: How do you like to experience a new area? Walking the streets, and tasting the eats!

I like to get lost in a new place, it’s the best way to find random things that are usually better than the stuff for tourists.
I’m also super jealous of your Canadian maple syrup…I haven’t been to Canada in far too long!
      Glad you had fun!

One of the perks of living in Washington must be the chance to take a trip to Canada once in a while! All the food you had looks amazing—especially the burrito. Did it have steamed broccoli florets in it?!

I love, love, LOVE just walking around a new city and stopping by any place that catches my eye. Oh, and definitely try drinking the syrup straight from the bottle 😉

I love traveling, especially to larger cities, because the abundance of vegetarian and vegan food options are so much greater! It is fun to actually see vegan and vegetarian restaurants as opposed to one or two vegetarian options on a restaurant’s menu. It looks like you found some good vegan eats, too! 🙂

I grew up in Victoria! In high school (this is going back over 15 years now, yikes!) my friends and I would eat at Rebar almost every weekend. I used to eat at Green Cuisine regularly, too. It’s good to hear that both places are still going strong. Rebar has its own cookbook – I highly recommend it 🙂

Oh and I didn’t know that maple syrup drove pancakes and waffles… How interesting. LOL. I wonder if pancakes like are lamborginis in the food world and waffles are like… hummers or something. Okay, seriously, I don’t even know what I am talking about right now, although I kinda do at the same time, AH HA HA HA AH!

I know you are not the biggest fan of sugar, but YES maple syrup is NEEDED for pancakes and waffles!! Ok so maybe I have had them without the syrup, but I am so excited for this syrup I almost can’t speak. I will bring Canada to you some day..in the form of syrup. I will pour it all over your feet and wash them with my hair.

What a fun trip. My favorite way to explore new areas is by running. I took a class in Italy and England for a few weeks on summer in college and suggested {forcefully coerced everyone else I could} we run every morning in our new cities before class. It was the best way to learn the area and see lots of sweet historic “stuff”.
