Posted at 10:10 AM by Brittany, on August 25, 2012

Green is my favorite color. It’s a neutral color, and doesn’t imply that I am manly nor girly. I tend to migrate towards green foods, possibly because I like the color and because of the nutrients in them. I had a green themed evening the other night and it all started with these.

These crisps, are unreal. I hadn’t had them in years and I decided…it was time. They are SOSsososSO good. Don’t believe me?

I think this photo speaks for itself. Three servings in the bag obviously means you have three times the opportunity to eat them within 20 minutes.

Dinner for the night was all green as well. I cooked my asparagus in this stuff, which happens to be a new to me item.

The oil itself was clear, and didn’t have much of a flavor. I liked it because it allowed the asparagus to really POP with its natural flavor. Cool stuff this oil. I then put my Blendtec to use for the first time making something other than a smoothie.

This is my poisonous sludge. Touch it and you will die.

Wheat gnocchi with vegan pesto, brussels, and asparagus.

    Vegan Pesto

    • 2 cups of spinach
    • 6 large basil leaves (or more!)
    • 2 small/medium cloves of garlic
    • 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil
    • 1/2 cup of cashews
    • salt & pepper to taste!

Combine all ingredients into a food processor (I used my blender) and combine until you get a desired consistency! I added water to mine to thin it out.

This stuff was great, a fun new sauce to spice up my pastaaaaas.

On a completely unrelated note, this is what my front porch looks like.

No green..but LOTS of fall colors. I am so FrrEaKinN excited!! I LOVE FALL!!

Q: Are you ready for fall!? YESS!! CORN MAZE, pumpkin patch, hot tea, snogging, squash, cool temp running, winter clothes!

I would love to love those snap pea crisps, but I just can’t. I was totally enchanted with the idea that the little snappers had been freeze-dried right in their pods, but I’ve come to realize that each and every one looks exactly the same, so they must be formed somehow. Oh. Hope I haven’t ruined them for you ;-)!

Guess who slept for 7 hours and missed dinner!!! Nicole AND Gwendolyn! Hahaha! So as I brushed and flossed exactly five minutes ago (4:23am), my brain thought, “Hmmm, I want brussels sprouts and reduced sugar ketchup right now!!!” Haven’t had that feeling since last autumn! And then BOOM. I read this. So exciting.

Wheee, yeah me too! I love fall so much. Just cooked with the first pumpkin this year, they are popping up all over the farmers markets now. And I love green food. Your idea to make pesto with spinach is so inspiring. Have to try this one soon!

I’m starting to categorize my food by colors as well! Green smoothies definitely to start the day and deep red/purple juice of beets and grapes to get in my antioxidants. Trying to redefine the age of 42! 🙂

Um your front porch is absolutely GORGEOUS. I’m in love with Fall, I think its my favourite season. I can’t wait to try all the fall fashions and be able to wear them for more than a month because in Vancouver fall lasts forever. Also, way to go with the green. I’ve been a slacker lately when it comes to eating 🙂 Oops.
I’ll get back on the band wagon next week, for now though, I’m enjoying my weekend off!!!

I am super pumped for fall, but incredibly guilty about wishing away the rest of the summer. It’s like I’m afraid the weather gods will say, “Oh, you’re done with the warm weather? No sweat, here comes WINTER.” …not ready for winter yet.

That pesto sounds great- good idea on adding in cashews! In the past, I’ve made vegan pesto using avocado & it turned out great! I love fall- light jackets, sweet apples, and fall produce- love me some squash…the more orange the better :)! It’s too bad I don’t feel these sentiments towards winter!

I’m a fan of green too, especially green veg! I want to try those Snapea crisps, they sound great. And your vegan pesto looks and sounds delicious too.

Your porch is lovely by the way 🙂 I’m so looking forward to the Autumn (or fall!) too, I love the colour of your door. I’m definitely ready for it, I start at a new uni and I’ve ordered all of my books and I’ve also started buying a couple of lovely knitted jumpers in preparation for the cold 🙂

I’m so excited for fall too!! Warm coffees, big knitted sweaters, crunchy leaves.. love it all. And Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas!

Your front door looks really beautiful. I wish I could decorate like that, but I live in the city and I’m afraid someone would steal the wreath right off my door. Which would be not cool.
