Saturday I was able to spend the entire day with my dad. He was in town to pick up my sister, so I jumped in my G-ride and drove to Seattle to spend some time with them both. My thoughts of us sharing DNA have been confirmed, immediately upon arrival he wanted to grab a bite to eat. Not just a bite, a vegan bite to ensure I was able to eat. What a nice kid.
We headed to a vegan Thai place called Araya’s. The menu looked like a High School math problem, so I decided on the buffet. This was not only the easier choice, but it allowed consumption of multiple different options. NEVER choose just one item.
I have dreamt about that coconut curry in the upper left corner and the pad thai in the middle of the plate for the past two nights. I like my food hot, like..”nose running so bad your date would get up and leave” hot. Unfortunately I missed the spice table because I was too mind bogged by all of the food on my plate. This just means I have to go back and douche my plate with hot spices.
This sugary crunchy mixture had lettuce and fried tofu. They had me at fried. This was delicious.
After this meal, I ended up passing out due to over excited neurons in my brain. Too much good food too fast will cause this to happen. Information overload.
I’m joking, I went to give a piece of my life (and my skin) and donated my blood for the first time. This is one of those rewarding, but painful experiences. Similar to finding relief after a few days of constipation. I have made another appointment for this week to return to the blood bank and retrieve the skin that was ripped from my arm. I have been mistaken thrice for having a flesh eating disease due to the loss of skin on my arm.
No, that is not the Grand Canyon. This is the flesh wound from the size 16 needle that was shoved into my under sized vein. I was unable to give blood once before because my veins were “too small.” Why I went back for seconds I do not know. I am glad I did though, and once I stopped whining like a 6 year old child, the experience was rewarding.
After giving my life away, it was time to see a movie. The Avengers. Good movie, lots of action, and not too long. I almost turned into the Hulk myself when the woman next to me (that didn’t know the meaning of personal space) kept coughing. I should have offered her a cough drop from the purse I don’t carry. All that action and loss of blood was one more excuse to get more food.
Insert Stellar Pizza. Grungy college joint with more warmth than a heating pad. Loved this place. They won me over with their vegan pizza option that included sliced Yukon potatoes.
Vegan version in front (half eaten because I lack patience) and same pizza in back with cheese on it for the non vegan meat eaters. I look forward to annihilating the small slivers that are left of the front piece momentarily. Twas a fabulous day. The only thing that makes good food better is good company.

I need to see avengers!! Ps r u a vegan!? What r the benefits of it?
Brittany
I am not a permanent vegan, I actually need to write an update post on my few months eating vegan. I am however a permanent vegetarian (for about 6 years now) I LOVE it. Eating vegan the past two months has been awesome, I feel great, my energy is up, I eat a LOT but still maintain my weight. My skin glows…there are so many great things.
YES, see the movie!
Kelly @leafynotbeefy
Haha, “similar to finding relief after a few days of constipation” oh dear, lol! That vegan buffet look sooooo amazing, and like actual food and not just quasi-food slathered in oil and deep fried like probably most buffet offerings.
Okay, answers:
– last movie I saw was called The Grace Card
– yes, I have donated blood twice I believe, and almost donated blood when I was in college but wimped out (even though the money was awesome) due to some horror stories from other students.
Kelly @leafynotbeefy
woops, I meant almost donated plasma in college
Brittany
Oh man, money for plasma? I might consider…
Life After Swimming
I have never donated blood because I passed out on the regular already, but I used to volunteer at the blood banks at school and walk the people from the tables to the waiting area!
An Unrefined Vegan
Have never donated blood – voluntarily anyway. Good for you for doing it and going back to give more!
Murika @ shinytimes

katalysthealth

Lou Dwan
Good on you for giving up some of the red stuff!
I just had a bunch of blood tests and they spent so long digging round my arm to find some BLOOD…. turns out I hadn’t drunk enough water and all my veins were shrivelled. Gross.

Good for you for donating blood!! I have always wanted to but already have low iron and my mom was never able to because of the same thing so I don’t know if they would let me in the door! haha. Mmmm vegan pizza looks good, apparently they are making a gluten free pizza joint soon near me mm mm mm!
Health Freak College Girl
Yayyyy good for you for donating blood! I’ve done it twice even though I used to say I would never do it haha. Needles freak me out WAY too much. But saving a life is way better 😉
HautePinkPretty

The last movie I saw was “Avengers!” I’ve seen it six times. I’ve never been able to give blood because I never weighed enough!
DSTPRL
The last movie I saw was the Avengers and it was AWESOME!!!!!! I haven’t donated blood in a minute. Too long actually.
Cara
Brittany, you are freaking hilarious! I loved reading this and LOLing through it. All of this sounds SO awesome. I really want to do more “a day in the life” posts now that I *think* I have more time. Your dad sounds killer awesome! My dad is pretty boring when it comes to food. He always orders the SAME exact thing at every restaurant- hamburger steak (no gravy) w/ white rice and peas. I know him too freaking well. But, VEGAN PIZZA???!!! No way! If I am ever near there, I am munching on that! And the last movie I saw was Dark Shadows!
Coley
Your pictures of food are awesome!!!! Giving blood makes me a bit queasy… But props to you for giving to a good cause. Maybe one day I’ll get there!!!
Tessa@AmazingAsset (@Tessa8m)
That is wonderful you donated blood! Such an important and helpful thing to do… and every small bit counts! I used to donate blood all of the time, seriously whenver I could… and when the anemia hit, well of course that went out the window! I hope to donate again someday 🙂
Khushboo Thadani
I hope you replenished your sugar levels with something extra sweet after donating blood- it’s crucial :)! Seriously though, it’s such an admirable thing to do and you’re helping out others more than you know! Last movie I saw was “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”…total chick flick and I loved it!

That’s great that you donated blood! I can’t do it. Just looking at the pics and reading about it made me queasy.

I like my food hot, like..”nose running so bad your date would get up and leave” hot!!! Hahaha! I once had a boyfriend who said, “You eat wasabi like they’re nuggets. Wasabi Nuggets.” LOL.
Last film? The Descendants starring George Clooney. A film of psychological brilliance! Fantastic.
You gave blood. You are my hero. I did it once in 1999 whilst on the verge of becoming anorexic, and I passed out, refusing to eat the “cookies” that the school nurse supplied as supplement. They called my parents, and I got into trouble. LOL. Am scared of needles so shall not ever put myself through that experience but rather shall continue to donate $ to the central blood bank each year in exchange for being a weenie.
Mwah! 😀
Lisa
I love fabulous days like that!
I used to donate blood regularly, but haven’t in a while. I wonder why I stopped!!!
The last movie I saw in the theater was Safe House. It was scary. And not my choice!
Shira
Cute (and inspiring) post! I haven’t donated blood before..needles just make me crazy squeamish! Your eats look good and good for you! We need more to step up like you Britt! 🙂
savor the sweet life
Eep! I work at a hospital so there are always blood drives going on. I feel like such a jerk though because I don’t weight enough to give blood. I feel like everyone in the hall ways are glaring at me on days there are drives because I don’t have the “I gave blood today” sticker on! I’d love to give blood but I need to gain 10lbs in order to do it!!
I want to see the Avengers..part of it was filmed in Cleveland so I want to go and pick out the scence that were here haha 😛
Angie @ The Fitness Apple
Great job with the giving blood! My Bf recently was a match for a man with aplastic anemia and they needed to extract his stem cells through his blood. I love hearing when people help others like you! 🙂 Ps great blog… I’m following 😉
imakeeper
The last movie I saw was ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ with Mr. Speedy. It is one of my favs. I highly recommend it for a date because it is one of the sassiest, sexiest films ever. It ensures mauling. Guarantee it.
YAYYYY FOR BLOOD GIVING!!! I have been doing this for yearsss but often am turned away due to low iron, which is just silly b/c i eat meat like a t-tex. oh well. all this food looks amazing. you look amazing. even with your grand canyon sized wounnnnnd.
Charissa (@ColourfulPalate)
The last movie I saw was “War Horse”, really good, but more on the sad side.
I always give blood – mostly to face my fear of needles, haha. I faint, but I still keep going. It’s for a great cause…
myhighonlife
I don’t think I could even be vegetarian or vegan (props to you!) but that pad thai and the pizza look bomb.com! Good job on giving blood 🙂
My boyfriend took me to see the Lucky One last week before he left for the summer. It was so good!
Rach @ This Italian Family
Oh girl, you are amazing! I abhor my blood being taken. I nearly pass out every time, haha! Kudos to you for going willingly. 🙂 Looks like you had some good food to make up for all the pain at least. 🙂
GiGi Eats Celebrities
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be on BED REST right now from all that blood they took from you! Too bad a sexy vampire (cough*cough* Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) didn’t suck your blood, now that would have been far more sexy than the over weight nurse in the too snug scrubs!
You make me proud though, regardless!
Simply Life (@SimplyLifeBlog)
I used to donate my blood often when it was convenient; now that I have to actively search for places I’ve gotten way too lazy about it. thanks for the reminder!
Alison
Lucky for me I can’t give blood due to recently having piercings and having had mono in high school. Although I probably should when I can b/c I have O neg. blood which is the most needed. Just saw “The Avengers” as well and really liked it!! I agree that it wasn’t too long and had lots of good action. I think it lived up to what everyone said about it.
p0cahontas
Hey woman, you have been tagged http://abetteryeartoabetterlife.com/2012/05/31/7-things/ !! All this food looks fabulous though, I am quite jeleousss!
Christina
Oh man…looking at all that delicious food is making me hungry! Haha! 🙂
Andrew
Reading this made me want to have an eating contest. I don’t even need a challenger. I guess I’m just really hungry.
itsthecookiemonster

Christina Does It All
Such a good blog but….YOU SCARED ME! I thought you must have narcolepsy for a second 😛 Good for you for donating blood! I’ve tried before but passed out …after the finger prick. Embarrassing. 😉
